Hello friends! Today I needed to connect a regular desktop computer to the Internet in order to update the antivirus on it. There is no Wi-Fi on it, and it is very difficult to connect a network cable directly to the router, it's just that the router is not installed in a very convenient place. And my laptop is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and I decided to try connecting a desktop computer to a laptop via network cable and using a network bridge to distribute the Internet to a computer through a laptop.

It's all a bit confusing :) But now everything will become clear. I thought that perhaps not only I could have such a situation and my advice could be useful to someone else.

So I had Internet on my laptop, which I received via Wi-Fi. The task was this: connect a desktop computer to a laptop via a network cable and make sure that the computer and laptop have Internet access, and not just a network.

Setting up a network bridge

The laptop has internet. Connecting a computer to a laptop using a network cable (how to compress a network cable, see the article). On the computer, the Internet connection status will be network without access to the Internet. We need to make sure that there is access to the Internet.

For this we go to Control Panel – Network and Internet – Network and Control Center public access (or right-click on the Internet connection status in the tray and select "Network and Sharing Center"). Then select on the right.

If during the creation of the Network Bridge a message appears that it is impossible to continue because one of the connections is configured for Internet Sharing, then do this:

Right-click on one of the two connections and select "Properties". Then go to the tab "Access" and make sure there is no check mark next to “Allow other network users to use the Internet connection…” If this checkbox is checked, then uncheck it. Also check another connection.

On a computer that is connected to a laptop via a network cable, the Internet should appear, at least everything worked for me. I updated the antivirus on my computer and Network Bridge became unnecessary for me. If you also want to remove the Network Bridge, then just right-click on it and select "Delete".

2. In the "Password" field, write the password to connect to it (WPA2 standard, at least 8 characters English alphabet and numbers)
3. In the "Shared Connection" field, select our Internet connection (for example, if we are connected via a Beeline 3G modem, then select the "Beeline" item).

Everything is ready, click "Start Virtual Router Plus", the program will automatically minimize to tray, and any wireless device (smartphone, tablet) can search for a Wi-Fi network with our name.

In this window, you will also learn the difference between paid and free version- in the free one there is no way to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, it will always be "Connectify-me". A gray “PRO” icon is visible next to it, which means that the pro version is not active (not purchased).

Further, as with the previous program - in the "Password" field, the password, in the "Internet to share" field, specify the Internet connections. Click "Start Hotspot", after which a window with advertising will appear once, which we immediately close. Everything, we are looking for a wireless network with a tablet, the connection is set up.

Configuration without the use of third-party programs

The third way to do laptop wifi router, does not require the installation of third-party programs, but we will configure using the built-in Windows Tools. This method has been verified to work on Windows 7 and 8, it is not known exactly about XP.

In order to have WiFi in the house, it is not necessary to buy a router. A laptop connected to an Ethernet cable can also distribute the Internet around the apartment. Similar steps can be done with Windows 7. In order for Wi-Fi to be distributed from a computer or laptop, you can, as in the previous example, create a new virtual network step by step. The difference is only in some steps.

• You need to look in the "Network and Sharing Center".
• Run “Setting up a new connection…”.

• Then go to “Setting up a wireless network “Computer-Computer” and click the “Next” button.

As you can see, the steps are similar. In the new window, enter the network name, encryption type and password. Save changes and click "Next". Here it remains only to apply the setting "Enable sharing ...".

But that is not all. In order to be able to connect to WiFi from other devices, return to the “Network and Sharing Center” and in the left part of the window, find the line “Change advanced settings…”.

Ready! But Windows 7 also offers another, more advanced and simple way to organize the distribution of WiFi from a computer or laptop equipped with a wireless adapter. This is using the command line. Find her in the list of all Windows programs and open with administrator rights (right-click on the shortcut and select the appropriate item).

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="new network name (at least 8 characters)" key="password"

and press Enter. This is a quick distribution, and to start distributing the Internet from a laptop, use the command:
