What are the dimensions of drywall wall. Types and sizes of drywall sheets. Features characteristic of drywall boards

Do you know what not a single installer performing construction work can do without, and what materials will be required to equip a residential building, and what is preferred when roughing out an apartment? You will find the answer to these and other questions in today's article. After all, your attention is presented with an overview of such a universal material as drywall.

When mounting frame structures, make sure that exactly the sheathing material that is needed is at hand. Recently, plasterboard sheets (GKL) have been popular - rectangular slabs with a gypsum base and a sheath made of thick paper. Familiarize yourself with the classification, operation features depending on the microclimate conditions and decide on the appropriate dimensions of drywall sheets.

Without the presence of building material, repairs will be impossible, so make sure that all the necessary materials, tools and equipment are at hand. Try not to delay the purchase and take everything at once. After all, materials from different batches may differ according to certain criteria.

Target GCR Diversity

According to the purpose of the plate are divided into:

  • wall with a thickness of 1.25 cm;
  • ceiling - 0.95 cm;
  • arched - 0.65 cm.

Wall drywall is used for finishing walls and installing partitions, ceiling plasterboard for sheathing suspended ceiling boxes, and arched plasterboard for creating exclusive structures with curved lines, openings and partitions.

There are also sheets with non-standard parameters on the market: from 1500 to 4000 mm long, from 600 to 1500 mm wide and from 0.65 to 2.4 cm thick. This causes some difficulties in choosing, so consult a specialist before buying.

Remember that whole plasterboards are used only for facing large areas, and when repairing in a small apartment, they have to be cut into component parts of the required size.

Familiarize yourself with the typical characteristics of gypsum boards - an indispensable material in construction, repair, reconstruction and restoration of the normal state of houses and apartments.

Features characteristic of drywall boards

The size of drywall sheets is the most obvious parameter and the first point by which it is determined whether this material is suitable for the buyer or not. This item is characterized by the length, width and thickness of the slab. Installers answer that these are the main characteristics in technical terms, which directly affect the choice of one or another type of material.

The manufacturer offers slabs with a length of 250-300 cm and a width of 120 cm. On request, a slab with a minimum length of 200 cm and a maximum length of 400 cm can be pressed. Specially for DIY, small-format plasterboard sheets with dimensions of 150 x 60 cm are produced.

A common version of GKL with a thickness of 0.65, 0.95 and 1.25 cm. This parameter is given special attention, since according to it the intended purpose of the material is determined.

The thinnest sheets are suitable for creating curved shapes and designs. Material with a thickness of 0.95 cm is sometimes suitable for sheathing the correct form of ceiling structures. Wall partitions are mounted from the thickest slabs - 1.25 cm. The indicator also depends on the thickness of the plasterboard sheets:

1.25 cm - the thickest sheets, are characterized by an indicator of 322 N in the longitudinal and 105 N in the transverse direction.

Poor-quality material that does not meet the requirements is fragile, which affects the convenience of working with it and the stability of the finished structure.

Some additional characteristics of GKL

Unlike the technical parameters discussed above: the dimensions of drywall sheets, the thickness and strength of the material, the characteristics described below are classified as auxiliary. Among them:

  • color;
  • weight;
  • fire safety;
  • edge type.

Color

This indicator is determined by the purpose of the material. In the course of production, cardboard of different shades is used, setting the tone for one or another type:

  • GKL (standard) - gray;
  • GKLV (moisture resistant) - green;
  • GKLO (fire-resistant) - red, etc.

Thanks to the color separation, you can quickly and easily determine the type of material and choose the size of the drywall sheet.

Mass indicators

Depending on the dimensions, the weight of the plates varies significantly. Among the masters, the concept of the weight of 1 m 2 of drywall is common. So, ceiling GKL with a thickness of 0.95 cm weigh within 6.5-9 kg / m 2, and wall with a thickness of 1.25 cm - 8.5-12 kg / m 2.

Knowing how much this or that sheet weighs, you can determine which type of drywall with certain indicators is suitable for your case.

Edge type

Another indicator according to which gypsum boards differ from each other is the edge. The strength of future seams at the junction of the GKL also depends on its type. According to the strength characteristics of the joints, plates with a thin edge of the PRO type showed themselves best of all.

Types and standard sizes of Knauf drywall sheets

The world standard of materials in the production of frame-sheathing structures, as before, is assigned to the products of the German company Knauf. Experts and craftsmen of the company divide their products into several main groups, including:

Features of GKL marking

Drywall is a material that has a symbol that determines its properties and consists of:

  • The letter part denoting the type, group (combustibility, toxicity, etc.), type of longitudinal edges.
  • The digital part, which means the size values \u200b\u200bof the plasterboard for walls or ceilings (length / width / thickness in mm), GOST compliance standard.

Features of the use of GKL indoors

You already know that standard gypsum boards are used for mounting and installing frame structures and wall cladding in rooms with optimal humidity. The versatility and wide dimensional grid of the plates make it possible to use them both for the installation of partitions of any type, and for the installation of a false ceiling.

The plates have a wide range of applications and are suitable for various types of work in conditions with an optimal microclimate, as well as in extreme environments.

Application area

Read the information explaining what type of GCR, where it is used:

  • Moisture resistant - in rooms with high humidity, in particular bathrooms and kitchens. This is a great base for tiling.
  • Fire-resistant - in rooms to which special fire safety requirements are imposed, for wall and ceiling decoration of office and workshops of factory premises. Due to their properties and dimensions, gypsum boards for ceilings and walls are successfully used in the arrangement of the attic space of residential buildings.
  • moisture-resistant - in rooms where high humidity is combined with elevated temperatures. It is used to create frame ceilings and partitions in baths and saunas. It does not differ in size from the previous type. With a length of 200-400 cm, the width is 120 cm, and the thickness is 1.25 or 1.6 mm.

Features of the use of GKL in structures

Plates based on gypsum filler are used for a variety of purposes, and the features of operation and installation, depending on the situation, are determined based on an analysis of the type and scheme of the future structure.

Depending on the features of the use of the material in a particular frame structure, gypsum boards are divided into:

Having familiarized the reader with the features of the GKL, I would like to add that what size and type of drywall to choose matters. These are important factors and you should not forget about them not only when choosing a material, but starting from the stage of design work. However, the main feature of the plates is the atmosphere that develops in rooms finished with the use of gypsum boards.

Modern repairs require materials that would give maximum opportunities, this is exactly what drywall is now. With it, you can build walls, partitions, level surfaces, do everything that will decorate, change and transform a living space.

To work properly with such material, it is important to know its features, and to calculate the quantity, you need to understand what the sizes of drywall sheets are.

Material types

Drywall as a composite material has found application in the repair of a wide variety of premises, with its help new structures are created, existing ones are improved and the structure of the room is changed due to extensions, piers and partitions. To properly use this material, you must be able to select it for a specific type of work.

There are several types of drywall:

  • Ordinary, which is marked with the abbreviation GKL. Inside the product is a gypsum dough, which is closed on both sides with thick cardboard. It is most convenient to use such sheets for interior decoration. It is important to use them where the humidity will not be high, otherwise the material will swell and lose its external qualities, which will affect the reliability of the entire structure. Sheets of this type are convenient and fast to work with, they are light, flexible and economical.

The most common area of use is working with the ceiling, less often with the floor, but most often it is taken for walls, to level them or create new ones.

  • fire retardant, which is called GKLO, is most favorable for use in non-residential premises, creating partitions. With it, you can secure the space from the threat of fire, which allows you to use it for fireplaces and stoves.
  • moisture resistant, has the designation GKLV, is used in rooms where the level of humidity is significantly increased, this is a kitchen and a bathroom. To provide such properties, substances are added to ordinary drywall that help not to absorb moisture, thereby maintaining all the characteristics of the sheet. This option well resists the formation of mold and fungus on its surface. If the premises have too high a humidity level, it is recommended to use a different finishing option for them, because drywall will still begin to deteriorate from excessive moisture.
  • fire and moisture resistant, with the GKLVO marking, is distinguished by the presence of resistance to both fire and water.

If you need to build special building structures, then you can select additional types of material that have different levels of thickness, these are:

  • arched variety with a thickness of 6.5 mm;
  • ceiling, which has a thickness of 9.5 mm;
  • wall the thickest variation, where the thickness is 12.5 mm.

The thinnest option is needed to create interesting curved structures both under the ceiling and as a wall. The ceiling type is well suited for leveling the surface of the ceiling or creating an interesting design with lighting from above the room. The wall type is appropriate both for leveling walls and for interior partitions, which, due to its thickness, helps to achieve good sound insulation.

Standards

The size of drywall can be different, which is convenient in case of a large repair or the elimination of small surface irregularities. In order to be able to buy the required amount of material, there are standard dimensions of this material, where the width of the sheet is 1.2 m, and the length varies from two to three and a half meters. In addition to these characteristics, it is worth considering the thickness of the plasterboard, which affects the total weight. Its fluctuations can be within 65 mm and reach up to 125 mm.

Differences in thickness are extremely important for ceiling structures, the lighter they are, the easier they are mounted and do not create a risk of breakage. In addition, the lighter weight allows fewer supports to be installed, reducing repair costs. Each sheet has a different cost: the thinner, the cheaper, which makes it possible to save money, if the design allows.

Due to the fact that various companies began to produce these products, and each seeks to gain its authority, there are cases when the dimensions of the GKLV sheets do not match the standard ones.

Length

Typical indicators of the length of a drywall sheet are:

  • the minimum indicator is 2 meters;
  • the maximum option is 3.6 meters.

If we consider Knauf products, then here we can note the maximum figure of 4 meters. The difference between the size range of each option is 50 cm. The greater the height of the sheet, the stronger and thicker it should be, and, accordingly, heavier. Most often, the maximum dimensions are used in large spacious rooms for a large amount of work.. Thus, it turns out to increase the pace of repairs, reduce waste and reduce the cost of material costs.

For experienced builders, it is not difficult to work with any dimensions of the product, and for beginners it is better to start with small sizes that are easier to measure, cut and make the necessary product. Long sheets are best suited for walls, ceilings and floors, and short sheets for finishing windows and low partitions.

Width

The width of the drywall slab is a standard unit, and is 1.2 meters. Whatever the length of the sheet, this parameter remains unchanged, and only the thickness increases to increase strength and prevent brittleness. If there is an urgent need to find a small sheet of plasterboard, then Knauf will help here, because in their range there are products from 60 cm wide, which in some cases will be the best option.

Non-standard width will fit when it comes to repairing window slopes, after replacing wooden products with plastic ones. In this case, it becomes necessary to close the hole left by the second frame and make the wall surface even. But also pieces small in width are suitable for creating a variety of drywall constructions that will have small dimensions.

Working with such plates is much more convenient than with full-sized ones, which means that anyone, even a beginner, can handle it.

Thickness

Depending on the size of the drywall sheet in length and width, the thickness of the product also changes. This is due to the fact that the pressure on the material increases, and without proper reinforcement, the cardboard will not withstand, and the gypsum mass will destroy itself. For small dimensions of GKL, the thickness will be 6.5 mm, for larger ones - 9.5 mm, and the largest figure is 12.5 mm. If a particularly complex object is being erected, which should be as strong as possible, then it is worth using a 24 mm thick plate.

The choice of thickness depends on what exactly will be made of the material. If this is an interior partition without any functions, you can use thin and medium options, if it has a shelf for books, then the requirements increase, and it is better to take a medium or thick sheet of drywall.

For those cases when a constant and considerable weight will affect the surface of the GKL, or there will be a valuable object like a TV on it, it is best to use the thickest type of plate.

Weight

Depending on the length of the sheet, its width, including the thickness, the weight of the sheet will also change.

If the sheet is:

  • 1200 by 2000 with a thickness of 6.5 mm, its weight will be 12 kg;
  • 1200 by 2500 mm with the same thickness, the weight will increase to 15 kg;
  • 1200 by 3000 with a thickness of 6.5 mm, the sheet weighs 18 kg.

The weight changes in proportion to the thickness of the GKL plate, as follows:

  • 1200 by 2000 with a thickness of 9.5 mm will weigh 18 kg;
  • 1200 by 2500 by 9.5 mm will weigh 22 kg;
  • 1200 by 3000 mm with the same thickness will weigh 27 kg.

If the first two options can be used on the surface of the wall and ceiling, then the third one is not suitable for suspended structures due to the significant weight of the sheet, since:

  • 1200 by 2000 with a thickness of 12.5 mm, weight is 23 kg;
  • 1200 by 2500 by 12.5 mm will weigh up to 27 kg;
  • 1200 by 3000 mm with the same thickness will weigh 35 kg.

Knauf drywall has more product options both in length and thickness, in addition to the standard 6.5, 9.5 and 12.5 mm, there is also 15 mm.

The weight of the GKL sheet of this company will have the following indicators:

  • 1200 by 2500 by 15 mm weighs 15 kg;
  • GKLV with the same indicators will weigh the same;
  • The weight of GKLO of the same dimensions will be from 13 to 16 kg;
  • the same indicators will be on the GKLVO sheet.

Only after understanding all the numbers and values, you can choose the appropriate version of the product and start working with it, otherwise it will be difficult to hope for an easy repair process and a good result.

What do dimensions depend on?

A standard sheet of drywall has only one stable indicator, and all the others may vary depending on the scope of its use. For the right choice of material, you need to understand which type is suitable for which work.

There are such types of GCR as:

  • arched sheets;
  • reinforced;

  • acoustic, with perforation;
  • vinyl coated sheets.

Acoustic drywall sheets are best used for large rooms such as auditoriums or halls that need to have an acoustic effect. If we consider vinyl sheets, then their undoubted advantage will be the readiness of the material for use, no treatment needs to be applied to the surface. The scope of its use is narrower due to the inability of the material to breathe.

As for the arched version, it is the most versatile, having a small thickness, so you can use it to create any composition.

If the matter concerns the wall type of the product, then it is necessary to exclude thin sheets, which in this case will be inappropriate. Only the use of 12 and 15 mm plasterboards will allow you to build a reliable and strong wall.

If it is necessary to cover the wall, then the ideal option is to serve a sheet of 9 mm, with which it will be convenient to carry out all the necessary manipulations.

When choosing options for future walls or walls in the bathroom: you can also use drywall for this room, with the help of a moisture-resistant option, you can avoid getting wet and delamination of the material.

Knowing the types of products and their sizes allows you to choose the right material for repairs. If you need to finish the whole room, then standard sheets will be the best choice. In the case when the walls in the room have a non-uniform height, it is more convenient to buy non-standard sheets that are half the size. For places that will have to withstand heavy loads, the thickest type of product should be used.

When planning the manufacture of an interior partition, it is best to use the longest plasterboards, which can reach 4.8 m, which will significantly speed up the repair process and save you from buying unnecessary materials.

If such partitions are radial, then it is advisable to use two sheets at once together to strengthen the structure.

For aesthetes, and those who seek to make something unusual and beautiful in the house, they will need a designer type of plasterboard, which is also called arched due to the fact that its thickness is only 5, 6, sometimes 6.5 mm, it can be easily bent. In order for such a product not to burst from loads, it contains two whole reinforcing layers.

If we talk about non-standard materials, then it is worth remembering the soundproof type from Knauf, which has increased hardness and, in addition to standard thicknesses of 12.5 mm, there are also 10 and 15 mm options.

The choice of product thickness is dictated by the location. Thin sheets are attached to the ceiling so as not to overload the structure, medium and thick sheets can be laid both on walls and on the floor. To create original compositions, a thin material is needed, for wet rooms it is moisture resistant, and in the case of contact with a strong heat source, fire-resistant drywall is needed.

Only by choosing the right varieties and sizes for the product, you can optimally calculate the amount of materials for work and make repairs with minimal loss of time and cost.

Overview of offers from different brands

When planning significant repairs that will require drywall, you need to know how to choose it correctly, and most importantly, which brand of product to pay attention to. Due to the fact that the popularity of this finishing material is growing, there are more and more new brands in which you can easily get confused and make the wrong choice.

If we talk about the most popular company, then this is the German manufacturer Knauf, which focused its products on the purpose, which was reflected in the characteristics:

  • the ceiling version has a thickness of 9.5 mm;
  • wall - 12.5 mm;
  • for a variety of bizarre designs - 6.5 mm.

The length standard is 2.5 meters, but there are other options, more and less than these indicators. The smallest sheet length is one and a half meters, and the largest is 4 meters. The width here also deviates from generally accepted standards, the minimum is 60 cm, and the maximum is one and a half meters. The thinnest sheet is 6.5 mm, and the thickest reaches 2.4 cm. All these indicators also affect the weight of the product, which can range from 13 to 35 kg.

Like any professional firm, Knauf produces not only a standard version of the sheet, but also one that is suitable for wet rooms, for the manufacture of structures in contact with fire, and a mixed type.

The quality of products has been tested over the years, this brand makes durable products that are lightweight, good flexibility, they are easy to cut and convenient to grind.

If we talk about the domestic representation, then the Volma brand will be the clear leader, which is distinguished by a lot of positive qualities, these are:

  • ease of installation process;
  • reliability of materials;
  • excellent strength indicators;
  • wear resistance;
  • the presence of an edge that prevents the sheet from crumbling;
  • reinforced design for bending GKL;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • optimum price level.

When compared with world brands, one can note small nuances that go to the minus of this brand. For example, there are no marking lines on the sheets, the drywall itself is heavy, and the surface is slightly waviness, which requires additional processing.

Another brand is LaFarge, which is widely represented in the world, and is rapidly increasing the number of points of sale of its products. Thanks to a good turnover, the company's pricing policy allows not to overestimate the cost, making products available to almost everyone. A feature of this production is the production of sheets with a rounded chamfer and edges, which are pasted over with a cardboard film. It was this innovation that made it possible to make a perfectly flat surface.

If we note the shortcomings, then we can only highlight a small size range, namely, only 2 types with a length of 2.5 and 3 meters. The weight of the sheets is small and usually does not exceed 9 kg. Despite the lightness, the material is very durable and allows you to isolate sound and heat well.. Sheets are a special series in production, with which you can create arches and various curved structures.

Another interesting company is Gyproc. represented by the Scandinavians. At the moment, it is a leading brand that has earned its popularity with environmentally friendly materials. Thanks to a special approach and choice of materials, the sheets are even lighter, which has also become an advantage of Gyproc brand products.

Drywall of this company can be used indoors, for which sheet options are presented from two and a half to three and a half meters in length, but with a standard width.

There are other brands that have their own differences. Magma's products presented on the market with a wide variety of products, among which there is drywall. Its quality is not bad, but it does not differ in any significant indicators. When choosing a brand, it is important to clearly understand what characteristics the product should have in order to find the optimal solution.

If it is important to cover the maximum area with the minimum number of sheets, then it is better to choose Knauf, which will also help when small panels are needed.

There are times when products of little-known companies turned out to be of high quality and inexpensive, but often eminent analogues significantly exceed cheap ones in quality, materials, environmental friendliness and other important indicators, so it is important to make the right choice.

How to make correct calculations?

In order to correctly calculate the required amount of drywall for repairs, the first step is to make all measurements of the repair area, be it walls, floor or ceiling. The choice of sheets is carried out according to the principle of selecting a longer length so that you can cut off an unnecessary part, rather than buying obviously smaller dimensions, so that later you can add the missing parts. Choosing the right size allows you to minimize the number of seams, which will then affect the duration of the finishing work, in addition, such a design will be stronger, and therefore reliable and durable.

Professionals can easily calculate how many sheets and what dimensions are needed for a particular job, but for a beginner this is not an easy task. In the absence of experience, it is important to draw a map of the surface on which work with GKL will be carried out, and by cells clearly determine the height and width of the sheet, and, accordingly, their number.

For those who do not like to deal with drawings, you can rely on the dimensions of the room, but buy material with a margin of 10 or even 20%.

The same principle works for working with the ceiling. After careful measurements, it is necessary to purchase sheets of a suitable size, it is better to have them larger than smaller, so that you can cut off the excess than add it. The fewer seams there are on the ceiling, the more beautiful the surface will be and the easier it will be to work with.. In order to achieve this effect, it is important to correctly place the sheets, having data on the width and length of the repair site. If it is difficult to do this mentally, you can also use a drawing on which to try several placements, choosing the most suitable one.

When choosing drywall for a particular room, it is important to understand its specifics in order to choose the appropriate variety and size for the optimal number of sheets that will be required for repairs.

By correctly calculating all the indicators, you can get a good and high-quality result.

In the event that at home or in any other room there is a repair that requires drywall, then it is important to choose it correctly, for which you should pay attention to important factors:

  • Choice of place of purchase: market or hardware store. Products on the market may be stored in unsuitable conditions that adversely affect the performance of the product. The store often has optimal storage conditions and certificates confirming the authenticity of products. Building supermarkets allow you to choose a product from a relatively large variety of companies that differ in characteristics and price.
  • Inspection of the place of purchase and warehouse. If it is important to get a quality repair, then you should ask how exactly the materials that will be delivered for work are stored;

  • Unloading and loading works. If possible, it is worth being near the loaders at the time of loading and unloading the sheets in order to see any violations in the process. This will help avoid any damage to the drywall.
  • Upon receipt of the goods, it is necessary to inspect it well sheets must be even, clean and uniform. The presence of chips, dents and scratches indicates poor quality, problems with storage or transportation.

It is best to return damaged sheets back, otherwise their service life may be significantly reduced.

When buying drywall for the first time, and you need a lot of sheets to work, you need to check the product of a particular company from a particular supplier. Only one sheet is bought and cut into strips. It is required to carefully inspect the contents of each strip, evaluate whether the composition is homogeneous or not, whether there are external differences.

If everything is in order, and there are no questions, you can safely order the required amount of GKL from this batch. But in case of doubt, it is better not to risk it, and look for another option.

When planning the interior decoration, it is worth especially carefully checking the composition of drywall, because small companies that offer an affordable product can add harmful substances to its composition, during operation they will emit toxic fumes or odors that adversely affect human health. This is especially important for the repair of a children's room, where everything should be as natural and of high quality as possible.

For interior decoration during repair work, such material as drywall, which is often called dry plaster, is widely used. Due to the fact that a special building mixture is enclosed between a special cardboard or paper, it is very convenient to carry out interior decoration with such material. For wall decoration, drywall sheets with a thickness of 12.5 mm are most often used, the so-called GKL wall sheets. But if it is required not only to level the walls, but also to make soundproofing, they use gypsum boards, the so-called acoustic ones, which are slightly thicker and have a porous structure. Also take into account in which room it will be used. For ordinary rooms, traditional drywall with a normal thickness is suitable for wall decoration, and for the ceiling or for organizing arches and other structures, other types with greater or lesser thickness are needed.

Depending on the surface for which gypsum boards are intended, they differ in marking, size and thickness. Traditional gypsum boards, which are used for wall mounting, are available in 12.5 mm thickness, and their dimensions are from 60 cm to 1 m 20 cm wide, and the length varies from 2 meters to 4 meters.

But most often when decorating rooms, sheet sizes are used from 2.5 meters long to 3 m 30 cm, and the width of the GKL sheet is 1 m 20 cm. Such sheets are convenient to transport and move around the room. They don't have a lot of weight.

Yes, and working with such sheets is also quite simple. In some building stores, you can find sheet sizes and small formats, for example, such as 1 m 20 cm long and 60 cm wide. You can even work with such plates by a finisher alone, as the light weight allows you to do this.

The thickness of drywall for the wall used in interior decoration

If it was not possible to find such small sheet sizes, then it's okay, you can cut large sheets of plasterboard using a special knife into the required sizes, which are convenient to work with.

  • For finishing ceilings, plates with a thickness of 6 mm - 6.5 mm are used, and such plates are also used for mounting any complex curved structures;
  • In some cases, to save money, you can use gypsum boards 9.5 mm thick for wall decoration;
  • Sound insulation also depends on the thickness of the drywall sheet, the thicker the GKL sheet, the better the sound insulation will be.

In any case, the choice of sheet thickness depends on each specific conditions, premises and scope of work performed. And also from the requirements that apply to the room in which gypsum boards will be installed.

Wall drywall: characteristics

To finish the walls in the premises, traditional drywall is used, 12.5 mm thick, but if you plan to hang something on the walls in the future, two plates should be attached to the crate for greater strength.

If you want to finish a room that has special requirements, you must use different types of drywall boards, for example:

  1. For finishing rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, etc., it is necessary to use a special moisture-resistant drywall. It is easy to distinguish by color. GKL plates have a greenish color. This type of drywall does not exfoliate from moisture and does not form a fungus or mold on it.
  2. If the room has special fire safety requirements, then in this case special fire-resistant types of drywall should be used, such GKL boards are red. This type of plasterboard can be used near fireplace stoves, etc.
  3. If it is required indoors, for example, in a sauna or bath, to combine both moisture resistance and increased resistance to fire, then you can use GKLVO brand drywall, which, thanks to additional components in gypsum, has moisture resistance and a certain resistance to fire.

After installation of such specific gypsum boards, they must be treated accordingly. So, for example, when using moisture-resistant GKLO boards, their surface should be treated with moisture-resistant putties, paints and other finishing materials that have a certain resistance to moisture. The same applies to boards that have a certain resistance to fire, they should also be treated with refractory materials.

What to use for walls: GKL or GVL

In addition to size, thickness and purpose, gypsum boards are divided into two types: GKL and GVL. GKL are traditional gypsum boards, consisting of thick cardboard or special paper and a gypsum layer. They are used in interior decoration. GVL sheets are made without shells, and they also differ in that cellulose fibers are added to the gypsum mixture. This increases strength, and one of the sheet surfaces is already primed, which facilitates the processing of this type of plate with finishing materials after installation.

In addition, GVL sheets have increased strength compared to conventional GKL sheets, but at the same time they have a number of features:

  1. They have a fairly large mass, so they need to be mounted on a crate made of a metal profile.
  2. Since GVL sheets are strong, they cannot be bent or deformed in comparison with GKL sheets, and they are more difficult to process than conventional gypsum boards due to their increased strength.

Since this material is much stronger, it is widely used in construction and interior decoration, especially in those places where increased measures of protection against shock loads are required. And also in those places where there are increased requirements for the fire-technical condition of the premises. Due to the fact that this material successfully resists high temperatures, it is almost impossible to set fire to it. If you want to build any structure or make a finish in a room with high humidity, then here GVL sheets will be the best option. You should only purchase GVL boards treated with a water-repellent composition, which allows this material to more successfully withstand moisture in the room. It is also possible to successfully use this material when finishing unheated premises, since GVL boards can withstand up to 15-20 cycles of freezing and defrosting.

What exactly is better than a GVL slab or a GKL slab cannot be definitely said, since both materials are good and are used successfully in finishing any premises, including those in which it is important to use environmentally friendly materials, which are GKL and GVL slabs.

The size of a sheet of drywall, which can currently be offered to consumers in building materials stores, is 2.5 by 1.2 meters, and the thickness of the sheets is 9.5 or 12.5 millimeters.

During the repair in the apartment, a wide variety of designs are made of drywall, which has a thickness of 12.5 mm. Sheets of drywall, which has a thickness of 9.5 mm, are most often used to create various curved structures.

A sheet of drywall, 12.5 mm thick and 2.5 by 1.2 meters in size, weighs approximately 29 kg, and its area is 3 m2. Such a sheet will not even fit into a freight elevator, therefore, to transport it in an elevator, trimming up to 2.2 m will be required.

Types and application of drywall sheets

It must be remembered that there are several different types of drywall, each of which has its own scope.

Gypsum board is a modern mounting material for interior wall and ceiling cladding of buildings, partition walls, and the creation of three-dimensional architectural interior elements, such as columns, piers, and niches. Subject to the technical requirements for installation and the correct selection of materials, the operational properties of drywall structures are in no way inferior to analogues created from traditional materials. When choosing drywall, you should pay attention to parameters such as the type and dimensions of the drywall board.

A gypsum board is a rectangular sheet of gypsum paper pasted over on both sides. Depending on the additives that are used in the manufacturing process of the gypsum core and cardboard, various types of gypsum boards acquire the appropriate performance.

Ordinary drywall (gypsum board)

Drywall of this type is intended for interior decoration of premises with normal humidity (living rooms, hallways, utility rooms). Wall cladding, single-level and multi-level ceiling structures, interior partitions, rectangular and round columns and other architectural elements are made from it. According to European standards, such a sheet is pasted over with light gray or gray cardboard. On the back side there is a stamp (for most manufacturers it is blue) indicating the type of sheet.

Moisture resistant drywall (GKLV)

This type of drywall is used for finishing walls and installing partitions in rooms with high humidity (bathrooms, swimming pools, kitchens), as well as for interior cladding of frame houses in low-rise construction. Special additives have been added to the gypsum core of the sheet to reduce moisture absorption, and the paper layer has been treated with fungicidal impregnation. When buying, moisture-resistant drywall can be identified by the green color of the cardboard on the front side and the marking stamp (usually blue) on the back side.

Other types of drywall

In addition to the listed types of sheet, there is a fire-resistant drywall (GKLO) - gray with a red marking, as well as drywall, resistant to both high temperatures and moisture ( GKLVO) - green with red markings. But such materials, as a rule, are not used in home renovation. They are used in public and industrial premises, as well as in other facilities with increased safety requirements.

Drywall dimensions

The method of application and performance properties of gypsum boards depend, first of all, on such a parameter as thickness. In the assortment of most manufacturers, you can find sheets with a thickness of 6.5 mm, 9.5 mm, 12.5 mm.

Sheet 6.5 mm

This is a thin drywall that can be bent without studding or wetting. It is used in the manufacture of architectural elements with a small bending radius, for example, for the end parts of a multi-level ceiling, round columns of small diameter, arched niches. To give the structure rigidity, sheathing from such a sheet is performed in two layers. This should be taken into account when calculating the required amount of material.

Sheet 9.5 mm

According to the installation technology developed by Knauf, a 9.5 mm thick slab is used as an additional sheet when arranging walls and partitions with a two-layer sheathing. A 12.5 mm slab is used as the main skin, and then 9.5 mm drywall is fixed on top of it. A nine-millimeter sheet is not recommended for use as a single-layer independent sheathing. Due to its small thickness, it can change the geometry with changes in humidity in the room. As a result, the joints between the plates will disperse and cracks will form on the wall.

Sheet 12.5 mm

In this thickness standard, both ordinary and moisture-resistant drywall are produced. This is a universal plate that is used for mounting ceiling and wall structures, interior partitions, arranging door and window slopes. From a sheet of 12.5 mm, it is also possible to produce bent elements with a large radius (more than 1.5 m). To do this, drywall must be rolled with a special studded roller, moistened well with a spray gun and bent along the pattern when wet.

In accordance with European standards, the width of the drywall sheet is 1.2 m. The length of ordinary sheets is 2 m, 2.5 m, 3 m (these figures may vary slightly, depending on the manufacturer). Thanks to this, it is possible to choose the optimal dimensions of the slab, depending on the parameters of the structure being erected.

When choosing a drywall supplier, you need to find out not only the cost of the sheet, but also the prices for all the necessary components. And then calculate the average cost per square meter of construction. Some sellers, in order to attract buyers, set deliberately low prices for a sheet, but their profiles and fasteners are expensive. As a result, the price of the finished structure may be higher than the market average.

Drywall thickness and other parameters - how to find the right sheet?

The thickness of drywall determines the functional purpose of this building material. Thin sheets go to the ceiling sheathing, walls and interior partitions are trimmed with thick ones. That is why any buyer of this finishing material should know the standard dimensions of the GKL. Otherwise, the heavy ceiling will collapse at the most inopportune moment, and thin walls will crack under the weight of a mirror or interior decor.

Gypsum plasterboard (GKL) appeared on the domestic market in the middle of the 20th century. However, a patent for this building material was registered back in the 19th century, describing the technology for gluing 15 layers of paper and a layer of dry gypsum plaster. Modern GKL does not differ from its ancestor from the 19th century - it is still the same flat sheet obtained from gypsum and reinforced with paper wrapping. Moreover, the size of the drywall sheet depends on its functional purpose.

In the century before last, this material was used only in interior decoration and was produced at paper mills, so the dimensions of the plasterboard depended on the requirements of the customer. Nowadays, the scope of "dry plaster" has expanded, and the parameters of the sheet have been optimized and standardized. In the twenty-first century, drywall factories produce the following types of building and finishing materials:

  • GKL is, in fact, the same “dry plaster” from the nineteenth century, used as an interior finishing material. It is used to make filing for the ceiling, interior partitions or is used for interior decoration. Therefore, the thickness varies within a centimeter, and the height corresponds to the standard ceiling level.
  • GKLV - a modified version of "dry plaster", weaned to be afraid of moisture. Thanks to this, paper-wrapped cardboard has been used in previously inaccessible places - in bathrooms, kitchens, toilets and other damp areas of the house. The dimensions of moisture-resistant drywall do not differ from the dimensions of the usual version, because we have the same finishing material, only with a wider scope.
  • GKLO is a special version of a conventional material that is not afraid of flames and high temperatures. This is a completely different drywall. The thickness here is much larger than the standard and reaches 3 centimeters. And it is used in the decoration of fireplaces and other hot places.
  • GVL and GVLV are already the next generation of “dry plaster”. The gypsum-fiber sheet developed the idea of GKL by reinforcing the inner layer of plaster with cellulose fibers. Thanks to this, he gained strength and abandoned the cardboard wrapper. Moreover, moisture-resistant material (GVLV) is not afraid of not only loads, but also water. From the previous generation of GVL building materials, only standard sizes were inherited.

There is also an “acoustic” drywall - a finishing material with reduced sound transmission. Because of this, it is more expensive than the usual option and is used only in special cases.

The thickness of drywall determines the scope of its application. Moreover, such panels are most often used for finishing ceilings, walls and partitions. As a result, the following picture is observed. The thickness of a standard sheet ranges from 6 to 15 millimeters. Moreover, the size of 6 and 6.5 mm occurs only in a flexible sheet reinforced with fiberglass. It is used for the construction of arches and other complex structures. The thickness of the ceiling material is exactly 9.5 mm. On the partitions there is a panel of 12.5 and 15 mm.

The parameter of the modified GKLV does not differ from the standard one. After all, this is the same building material, only with increased moisture resistance, so here we see a similar size range - 9.5-15 millimeters. With this material, you can hem ceilings, upholster walls and partitions, using GKLV in the most damp rooms.

The thickness of drywall in GKLO, GVL and GVLV formats reaches 25 and 29 millimeters, with a minimum value of 9.5 and 12.5 mm. Moreover, very dense panels are produced only by special order. This is usually done by the brand. Giprok, offering flame retardant and heavy duty material for special occasions. Therefore, the dimensions of drywall can be chosen by a buyer who wants to assemble a very durable partition for natural stone finishing, a wall behind a fireplace or a heating boiler.

Other dimensions of this building material are not very diverse. The length of the sheets fits into the size range from 2 to 4 meters. Moreover, the most common size is 2.5 meters. Due to the different heights of the ceilings in our houses and apartments, sheets of 2.7 and 3 meters enjoy their share of popularity. Oversized materials of 3.5 and 4 meters are very rare in the open sale. Usually they are ordered from factories for specific purposes.

With a width, the situation is even simpler - 0.6 and 1.2 meters. Moreover, the first size is much less common than the second. Therefore, the 1.2-meter width is taken as the standard size of the type sheet.

How to find out the nature of the sheet and distinguish GKL from GKLO? Everything is simple here:

  • ordinary sheets are pasted over with white cardboard;
  • moisture resistant material is painted with a green tint;
  • the fire-resistant version is pasted over with pink cardboard;
  • fire-resistant and moisture-resistant panels are painted in pink color and marked with green inscriptions;
  • gypsum fiber sheet has no wrapper at all.

Drywall standard, moisture resistant and fire resistant

As a result, to decide, look at the wrapper and the color of the inscriptions and choose the option you need. Which one? We will discuss this in detail in the next paragraph.

Are you looking for an arch, a column or a multi-level ceiling of a complex design? Check out 6mm flexible drywall from Giprok. Such a sheet can be rolled into a tube without the risk of damaging the structure. A slightly thicker, almost centimeter sheet is not suitable in this case. It bends a little, but it is easy to break it, violating the integrity of the entire wall, ceiling or column.

Hemming a flat ceiling? Buy 9.5mm sheets of plain or moisture resistant drywall. They do not load the structure and have high rigidity. Thanks to this, it is possible to reduce the number of profiles in the frame. The flexible option is not useful here - it can sag without a serious crate. And a deeper version will require even more reinforcement of the frame, since the difference between millimeters results in a difference in weight, measured in tens of kilograms.

Are you covering walls? Choose sheets with a thickness of 12.5 or 15 millimeters. They have good rigidity and will help level the surface even without profiles. It is not necessary to lay something more serious on the wall, since a nail or self-tapping screw will not be driven into or screwed into plaster, but into a dense building material of the supporting surface - brick, concrete or wood.

Do you build room dividers? Stop on a gypsum-fiber sheet with a thickness of 15 millimeters. Otherwise, your wall will not be functional. You can’t screw a self-tapping screw into a thin GKL, and you can’t hang a picture or a shelf, and a 2-centimeter GVL allows you to do even more.

Drywall sheet size

Ordinary drywall or GKL is quite often used for interior decoration of various premises under normal dry conditions.

There is also moisture resistant drywall, which is also known as GKLV, and has reduced moisture absorption. This is achieved with the help of special additives, so that it is better able to resist the penetration of moisture into it. This type of drywall is most often used in rooms where there is high humidity, for example, for finishing a bathroom. But at the same time, all technologies and norms should be observed, that is, it is imperative to protect it.

In addition to these types of drywall, there are two more - drywall, which perfectly resists fire (GKLO), and drywall, which is protected from both moisture and fire.

The size of a drywall sheet of different types is the same, and it is very simple to distinguish them from each other - by color:

  • gray - GKL;
  • green - GKLV;
  • red - GKLO.

It should also be remembered that drywall of the same size and type can have different types of edges. Quite often on sale you can find drywall with a thinned edge, making it more convenient to install drywall.

Small size drywall sheet

Drywall sheets are quite problematic to deliver to the apartment due to their large size. Even on a passenger car, this is quite difficult to do. But there is another type of drywall.

Currently, you can find small-format drywall, whose scope and properties are comparable to conventional drywall. But the dimensions of such drywall during transportation are more convenient, and during repairs it is much easier to finish the ceiling or walls with such drywall. Sheets of small-format drywall have a size of 1500x600x12.5 mm. A sheet of small-format drywall weighs only 9 kg. The sheets also have a thinned edge.

All sheets of drywall are produced in a rectangular shape. They consist of a gypsum layer, including special reinforcing additives, and cardboard. That side of the drywall sheet, which has a rolled edge, is the front. A symbol is applied to each drywall sheet, which indicates the dimensions of the drywall, the type of its edge, the sheet group and the type of drywall.

Drywall: price per sheet, dimensions and types of material

Drywall is one of the most popular building materials. The main advantage of the material is that its use allows you to expand the range of design solutions and create structures of various shapes, decorate walls and ceilings in any room. This article discusses the parameters that allow you to choose the right drywall: price per sheet, dimensions, thickness, purpose, and others.

The size and price of a drywall sheet is determined by its size, thickness and the presence of additional characteristics.

What is drywall made from?

The main material that is part of the drywall sandwich is gypsum. It is a natural salt, which is formed naturally from sea water.

Drywall construction

In order to obtain a gypsum plasterboard (GCR), the extracted raw material must undergo pre-treatment, which includes two processes:

  • burning. The temperature at which such a process takes place is approximately 180–190°C;
  • grinding.

For the manufacture of GKL of the desired shape, a solution is mixed with water, sometimes fiberglass is added. It is a component that significantly increases the deformation resistance of GKL, and also positively affects the refractory qualities. On both sides of the gypsum sheet, cardboard is fixed, which is environmentally friendly. Such cardboard is made from cellulose and impregnated at the production stage with special flame retardant additives.

The size of the drywall sheet is selected based on the area to be sheathed

The main types of drywall sheets

Depending on the purpose and technical features, all GCRs are divided into the following types:

  • standard;
  • moisture resistant;
  • fire resistant;
  • waterproof and fireproof;
  • acoustic.

Standard and moisture resistant plasterboard sheet 12 mm. Price per sheet and features

Standard GKL is used when it is necessary to perform interior finishing work. With the help of standard GKL, walls are leveled, and partitions, multi-level ceilings, etc. are equipped. To calculate materials for finishing work, you need to know the length and height of drywall sheets. Sheet dimensions are usually 2500x1200 mm. Cardboard for standard sheets is gray and is indicated by blue markings. Standard GKL are used in rooms with normal humidity.

With the help of drywall, you can not only level the walls and ceiling, but also create complex structures like arches or niches

Moisture-resistant plasterboard sheets are used in rooms whose humidity level exceeds the permissible values. But its use is advisable only if the room has an exhaust ventilation system. In turn, the front surface of the sheet must be provided with a waterproofing material (paint, primer, PVC coating).

The dimensions of the moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard are the same as those of standard gypsum boards. Such sheets are used for the construction of slopes. GKLV in combination with waterproofing materials are used for sheathing work surfaces in rooms with a high level of humidity. These include the bathroom.

Helpful information! Moisture-resistant drywall is characterized by increased strength; it can be used for decoration of public premises.

Drywall sheets are easy to work with, following the advice and recommendations of experts

The material includes various hydrophobic additives, due to which the sheet is able to absorb a minimum amount of moisture (no more than 10%). In this case, the sheet has a green color and is indicated by a blue marking. The price and size of a moisture-resistant drywall sheet may vary. However, products of standard sizes (2500x1200x12 mm) range from 295 to 395 r per sheet.

Fire-resistant, water-resistant and acoustic drywall

Refractory building products are used when it is necessary to finish a surface that is located in close proximity to a fire source (for example, the inside of a fireplace). This is exactly the option, which is mixed with fiberglass, which makes it resistant to fire.

Refractory sheets are used in rooms where the humidity level may be low or normal. Cardboard in this case can be either pink or red. Gypsum plasterboard refractory sheets are marked red.

Moisture-resistant drywall is used for sheathing structures, walls and ceilings in an environment with high humidity levels.

Waterproof and refractory gypsum board (GKLVO) has a high fire resistance coefficient, and also has a reduced water absorption. The combination of properties allows the use of such plasterboard sheets in baths and steam rooms. However, it can also be used for ordinary interior finishing work. GKLVO sheet cardboard is distinguished by green color and red marking.

Acoustic GKL differ from other varieties in that it has a high sound insulation coefficient. This property allows this material to be used for wall and ceiling decoration in concert halls, dance studios, as well as rooms where sound recording is made. The main difference between acoustic drywall and standard plasterboard is that its surface has holes, with a cross section of about 1 cm. The reverse side of the acoustic plasterboard is equipped with a coating that does an excellent job of absorbing sound waves.

Dimensions of drywall sheets: length, height and thickness

The standard length of the GKL is 2.5 m, and the width is 1.2 m. The following dimensions can also be attributed to the standard length: 3 and 3.5 m. In addition to standard sizes, you can find plasterboard sheets in markets and hardware stores, the length of which maybe 4 m. Sometimes there are sheets with a length of 1.2 m (small). The dimensions and prices of drywall are interconnected. For example, sheets with a thickness of 9.5 mm are cheaper than twelve-millimeter products.

For cladding walls, ceilings and other types of structures, drywall of different thicknesses is used.

The standard width of a drywall sheet is 1200 mm (1.2 m), however, there are products on sale in which this figure can be 2 times lower (625 mm). Such sheets will cost less.

As for the thickness of the GCR, the standard indicators include the following:

Deviation from the thickness standard is also a common practice. If necessary, you can purchase GKL with a thickness of 6.6 mm. In this case, their mass will be much lower, as well as the cost of drywall per sheet. There are also sheets with a different thickness - from 8 to 24 mm, which can significantly expand their operational area.

The standard thickness of the drywall sheet is 12.5 and 9.5 mm

Differences between wall and ceiling plasterboard

The dimensions of wall drywall in the form of sheets may be different, however, they are all considered standard. The length of the wall plasterboard varies from 2000 to 4000 mm. The minimum width is 625mm and the maximum width is 1200mm. The standard thickness of drywall, which is used for wall cladding, is 12.5 mm.

Note! For wall decoration, sheets are most often used, the dimensions of which are 2500x1200x12.5 mm.

If it is necessary to sheathe walls in an apartment or house with high ceilings, then it is recommended to use sheets with the greatest length (4 m). Thus, we can conclude that the dimensions of the GKL are selected depending on the specific situation.

For walls, thicker drywall can be used, but for ceilings, 9.5 mm sheets are usually used in order to reduce the weight of the ceiling structure.

Drywall used for ceiling mounting should be lighter in itself to make the installation process as easy as possible. For sheathing ceilings, GKL with a thickness of 8 or 9.5 mm is used. The minimum thickness allows for a reduction in the weight of the suspended ceiling, which in turn allows you to reduce financial costs when purchasing profiles for fixing drywall.

The price of a plasterboard ceiling is much lower than in the case of installing wall material. If necessary, you can use the services of professionals who, on average, take about 250 rubles. for the installation of 1 square meter of plasterboard ceiling. The price per m2 of drywall installation on the wall and ceiling also depends on the complexity of the work.

Overview of the cost of installing GKL:

Drywall size: length, thickness, width

Before we know the size of drywall (gypsum plasterboard), let's figure out what this material is. Drywall- this is a composite material made in the form of sheets that have a length of 2.5-4.8 meters, a width of 1.2-1.3 meters and a thickness of 8 to 24 mm (see Knauf drywall size). At the heart of such a sheet is gypsum, which is lined with cardboard on the outside.

In order to achieve the desired characteristics of the gypsum core, which show its density, strength, etc., special components are added to its composition, due to which its performance properties are significantly increased. Cardboard is not only an excellent base for applying any finishing materials (ceramic tiles, paint, wallpaper, plaster), but also a reinforcing frame. This results in a hard and flexible material.

The scope of drywall and its advantages

The advantages of drywall include the following:

  • this material is environmentally friendly;
  • drywall is able to maintain a certain microclimate;
  • you can apply any type of finish - from gluing tiles to painting;
  • drywall has good flexibility;
  • the range of application of drywall sheets is quite wide;
  • it is a fire-resistant and non-combustible material;
  • drywall has almost the same level of acidity that human skin has;
  • drywall has a rather low background radiation and excellent soundproofing properties;
  • it is absolutely non-toxic;
  • the cost of this material is quite low;
  • easy;
  • it is very convenient and easy to install;
  • if drywall is treated with special compounds, it will become even more durable, fire resistant and moisture resistant;
  • inside the drywall construction, you can mount lamps.

Drywall can be used for:

  • filling openings and cavities;
  • relief creation;
  • repair of already finished structures;
  • construction of architectural compositions - shelves, plinths, columns and arches;
  • wall alignment;
  • erection of partitions;
  • ceiling finishes.

Most often, moisture-resistant drywall is used to finish the bathroom, bathroom and kitchen, and fire-resistant - in the construction of communication shafts, in which dust removal and heating systems, plumbing systems, electrical and telephone cables, and air ducts are then laid. In addition, drywall can be used for laying a prefabricated floor.

What are the types of drywall?

According to the properties of drywall is divided into types:

  • ordinary (GKL);
  • fire resistant (GKLO);
  • moisture resistant (GKLV);
  • fire-moisture resistant (GKLVO).

Ordinary drywall (gypsum board)

This type of drywall consists of gypsum paste and thick cardboard, which is the surface of the material. It is used most often for interior decoration, the level of humidity in which does not exceed the norm. This material has such advantages as convenience in work, small weight and profitability.

Fire resistant (GKLO)

This type of drywall is very well suited for finishing non-residential summer and utility rooms, as well as for the construction of partitions. It is also able to provide the necessary level of fire safety and therefore it can be used near stoves and fireplaces.

Moisture resistant (GKLV)

This type of drywall is designed for use in wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, as it contains additives that help reduce moisture absorption, so that it does not lose its shape or delaminate. Also, this type of drywall is quite resistant to the formation of fungus and mold. If you choose a material in order to finish a country house, then you need to opt for this type of drywall, because in a country house the humidity is always higher compared to a city apartment.

In some cases, it is better not to use drywall for finishing the bathroom. In the event that a family consists of a large number of people who constantly use the bathroom, it is better not to use drywall, even moisture resistant, since for such rooms with high humidity it is better to use materials with a higher level of moisture resistance.

Fire-moisture resistant (GKLVO)

This type of drywall has the properties of both moisture-resistant and fire-resistant sheets.

In addition to the types listed above, there is another one - a special repair drywall, which is used to correct some minor damage that has formed in the finished drywall structure.

Drywall for its intended purpose is divided into the following types and has the appropriate size:

  • arched, which has a thickness of 6.5 mm;
  • ceiling, having a thickness of 9.5 mm;
  • wall, 12.5 mm thick.

Arched drywall is great for creating stylish interior arches and various curved openings from it, ceiling plasterboard is sheathed with ceiling plasterboard, and wall plasterboard is needed for installing partitions and finishing walls.

Drywall size

The standard size of drywall is 2500x1200x12.5 mm, which is three square meters in area. The weight of the drywall sheet will be approximately 29 kg.

The dimensions of the drywall sheet are as follows:

  • the width of absolutely all types of drywall is 1.2 meters;
  • the length of the sheets varies within 2-3.6 meters;
  • drywall thickness varies from 6.5 to 12.5 mm.

In order to be able to choose the right type of drywall, you should know the size of the drywall sheet, which are designed for a particular surface:

  • arched drywall is the thinnest of all types. Its thickness is only 6.5 mm, due to which it is able to bend to any radius;
  • wall drywall has a thickness of 12.5 mm. This thickness is optimal not only for creating a variety of partitions, niches and other structures, but also for leveling walls.
  • thickness ceiling plasterboard ranges from 8 to 9.5 mm. In fact, it is a lightweight version of conventional drywall and is able to reduce the weight of the false ceiling and significantly save on the profile, since after reducing the weight it will be possible to use a wider pitch in the suspended ceiling frame system.

In addition, ceiling plasterboard is a cheaper material than wall plasterboard.

If we talk about the length and width of drywall sheets designed for various needs, then they are the same for all types of drywall.

Most often, the dimensions of drywall sheets are as follows:

How to calculate drywall?

You need to choose the size of drywall sheets after all the dimensions of the room have been removed. If the walls in your room are 2.7 meters high, then you should use 3-meter sheets and cut 30 cm from each, and not put 2.5-meter sheets and add 20 cm to them. This will allow you to reduce the number of profiles and seams, and also strengthen the entire structure and significantly reduce the time of work.

It is necessary to try to avoid a large number of seams when installing drywall. To do this, it is necessary to correctly select the length of the sheets and correctly place them on the planes. Any professional is able to determine the required number and length of sheets in several sizes.

Unfortunately, not everyone has this skill, therefore, if you are faced with drywall for the first time, it is recommended that you first draw a map of the surfaces on which drywall will subsequently be mounted.

Features during installation

If drywall is mounted on even walls, then it can be mounted on a special mounting adhesive, which is based on gypsum.

To bypass various drops and irregularities, a different, more thorough approach is required. First of all, it is necessary to fix a frame made of a metal profile or wooden slats having a thickness of 2-2.5 mm on the wall. After that, drywall must be attached to it using simple screws, but you must first drill holes for the screws.

To create a concave or convex design, first wet the drywall and firmly fix it to the template until it is completely dry. To better penetrate the water inside, you can use a special roller with metal needles. It is necessary to roll the place of the bend with a roller, pressing it very tightly to the surface of the drywall so that a large number of holes are made with the needles. After that, you need to put a damp cloth on the entire surface with holes. To avoid breaking the sheet, it is necessary to wet the fabric several times after it is completely dry.

Leave gaps of 3-5 mm between the sheets, and then putty them. To prevent cracks from appearing at the joints, it is necessary to place the sheets so that the joints fall on the profile, and before puttying, the joints themselves must be glued with a sickle or a construction bandage.
