During installation, it is imperative to leave a gap of 8-10 mm between the laminate and any obstacles, so that when climatic conditions change, the laminate expands and contracts freely.

If laying the laminate is carried out on a floor with a heating system, then during these works the heating must be turned off no later than 2 days before the start of work.

Laminate floors must be laid on a flat, dust- and dirt-free base. It is not allowed to start work on a freshly cemented and wet base, its moisture content should not exceed 5%. To ensure the necessary moisture protection, the base is covered with any waterproof material or plastic film.

For a tighter connection of the ridge with the groove, you can use a wooden block and a hammer. You need to hit with a hammer only on the bar. Any excess adhesive should be removed immediately with a damp cloth.

After laying the first three rows of laminate, leave it for an hour so that the glue dries. Then, check the quality of work. It is these 3 rows that will be the basis for continuing the laying of the remaining rows. If clamps are available for closing the boards, then it is advisable to use them to fix the first three rows.

Using the same technology as for the first three rows, the remaining rows of laminated panels are laid. For laying each last panel of each row and the entire last row, a support heel is used. If necessary, the panels of the last row are cut if their width exceeds the required one, while keeping in mind the 8 mm gap from the wall. In the case of laying around pipes, holes are drilled in the laminate, 16 mm larger than the diameter of the pipes. Then they cut the bar exactly in the center of the hole and set both parts in place, gluing them together.

Adhesive laying laminate

The elements of the coating are connected using the tongue-and-groove method or upper and lower end recesses. Each panel has protrusions and recesses along the edges, which are combined when they are docked together. All work on laying the laminate must be carried out, observing a certain sequence of actions and the rules for installing the coating:

When laying the coating, it is necessary to leave a technological gap from the walls of 1 cm. For convenience, expansion wedges can be used.
The first panel is laid with the upper ends against the wall. The recess of the next one is smeared with glue, superimposed on the previous one and pressed. You can use a block of wood or a mallet to firmly knock the panel against another. Installation is carried out in rows in the long side of the lamellas.
Excess adhesive must be removed immediately, without waiting for drying. First use a dry cloth for cleaning, then a wet one.

The first board of the second row is divided in half so that the docking occurs in a checkerboard pattern. Further connection occurs from both sides with the upper ends of the stacked panels on the already installed ones.
After completing the first three rows, it is necessary to take a break to evaluate the result. The fourth and subsequent ones begin to be laid after the glue has dried on the previous ones.

When installing laminate on a wall at full height or at the top of the wall, work is done from top to bottom, starting from the ceiling. If you need to lay out only the lower part, accordingly, you need to start from the bottom. As with the floor, a gap of 1 cm from other surfaces is maintained. Each panel is smeared with glue at the base and pressed against the wall with force. The ends can also be processed to seal joints.

But no less popular for wall decoration is a laminate designed as a floor covering. Although because of this, its installation takes place according to different rules.

Laminate differences

For the most part, lock laminate, as a floor covering, is not designed to be rigidly attached to the base. This is a floating type of floor, the main feature of which is the reliable fixation of the floorboards to each other. Usually, a rigid coupling is provided by an end locking connection with a complex snap-in profile. Of course, you can also find glued joints, but rarely.

Finishing with wall panels requires the opposite - rigid fastening to the base, and the profiled end is an additional option that provides a hidden installation.

The most common type of slatted panels is a lining with a regular tongue-and-groove end. Therefore, often the laminate is also mounted to the walls - through the groove, fixing it to the crate with fasteners. But this is not the only type of installation.

Mounting methods

There are three ways to fix the laminate to the wall:

with glue;
nails through the bottom wall of the spike to the lathing bar;
kleimers to the crate.

Adhesive mount

Laminate can be thought of as a type of fiberboard at its core, so a water-free adhesive is required to attach it. This is especially important if the wall surface is leveled with plasterboard or plywood - with prolonged contact with a humid environment, either the base or the panels themselves can swell and “lead”.

You can use parquet adhesive, but not dispersion, but solvent-based or two-component.

The surface of the wall should be almost perfect. If small irregularities in the subfloor can be compensated for by the substrate, then for the wall there is no such possibility. Glue is quite expensive, it is applied in a thin layer, so the uneven surface of the wall will lead to a decrease in the patch of adhesion area, which will affect the reliability of fastening.

After leveling the wall (plaster, putty, using drywall), it must be primed and dried.

Then, lines are applied to the surface using a level, which will be guided during the installation of the laminate.

The most common laying pattern is the offset of adjacent rows by half the length of the plank.

The first row starts with a half. Lubricate its wrong side and the contact patch on the wall. They press for a short time, then “tear off” and allow the glue to weather, then press again until the initial setting. In principle, this is a technology for working with quick-drying adhesives, which may differ in the exposure time at each stage. There are more disadvantages: significant labor intensity, high consumption of expensive glue, low environmental friendliness of quick-drying waterless adhesives. In addition, walls whose surface has been leveled with plaster and putty may not have sufficient strength of the top layer to support the weight of the laminate.

Fastening on the crate

Mounting the laminate to the wall on the crate has the same sequence of operations as when finishing with clapboard:

Choose the laying direction: vertical, horizontal, diagonal.
Perpendicular to the laying direction, markings are made for attaching the crate. Its step should ensure the fastening of the laminate at least at three points - along the edges and in the middle. Therefore, the axial distance between adjacent rows of battens must be fixed: 1/2 or 1/3 of the length (an exception can only be for the lower and upper rows of the batten). Reducing the laying pattern offset step to 1/4, which is practiced for flooring, is technically impractical, given the width of the lathing bar.
For the crate, a wooden block with a width of at least 40 mm is chosen, since the distance from the edge of the short end of the laminate plank to the attachment point must be at least 15 mm. The joints of the laminate planks in each row should fall in the middle of the lathing bar.
In the lower and upper row of the crate, you can use a bar of a smaller width. It is necessary to start and finish the installation of a row not in the center of the bar, but on its edge.
Lathing bars are attached to the wall in accordance with the markings, observing the overall surface level.
