What is the difference between the types of corrugated roofing and how to choose the best coating? Roof decking: how to choose and lay the cover? How to choose a corrugated roof for the optimal thickness

The nomenclature of the profiled sheet is very extensive, so it is not always clear which corrugated board is better in your case. It is difficult to make a choice, since the profiled sheet differs not only in purpose, but can also have different technical characteristics, coating, quality, color and, of course, price.

Two of dozens of possible types of corrugated board: with a pural coating and textured wood

This article is devoted to exactly what a professional sheet is and how to choose it correctly for a particular task.

What is the purpose of corrugated board and what should you pay attention to when choosing?

The profiled sheet is used in construction for a huge number of works: from fixed formwork to wall cladding and roofing. Therefore, first of all, it is divided by scope into the following types:

  • wall (marked with the letter C);
  • carrier (marked with the letter H);
  • universal (marked with the letters HC).

The listed groups are what types of corrugated board are not only for their intended purpose, but also, in fact, according to their characteristics, since they strongly depend on where the material is supposed to be used. So, the bearing profiled sheet can withstand much greater loads than the wall one, due to the greater height of the wave, the thickness of the metal, as well as the presence of additional stiffeners.

It is worth noting,

There is no special roofing corrugated board or fence. These are all marketing names that usually denote one of the listed types with some kind of feature. For example, with a capillary groove to capture and remove moisture.

The division of the profiled sheet according to its purpose is rather conditional. Which metal profile is better in each case depends on where it is planned to be used. In particular, the wall profile can be used for roofing, and the carrier profile can be used for the construction of high fences in areas with high wind loads. Therefore, when choosing a profiled sheet, you need to look at its technical characteristics, and not the type.

Let us take as an example the central strip of Russia, territories without strong winds and heavy snowfalls. Under these conditions, with a roof slope of more than 30 ° C, S-21 corrugated board is suitable as a roof covering, although this material was not originally designed for such an application.

How to choose corrugated board according to the thickness of the metal?

The profiled sheet is made of metal, with a thickness of 0.4 to 1.2 mm. The thicker the metal of the original workpiece, the higher the bearing capacity of the corrugated board. The service life of the profiled sheet also depends on the thickness of the metal.

But at the same time, with an increase in the thickness of the metal, the weight of the corrugated board also increases, which neutralizes one of its main advantages - ease of installation and low load on the truss system. The cost of the profiled sheet also increases, and very significantly.

Therefore, the decision on which to choose a corrugated board in thickness is usually made in favor of replacing the low-profile thick steel material with a profiled sheet with a higher wave height. This is beneficial both in terms of price and based on the load on the truss system.

Types of protective coating for corrugated board

The protective coating of a profiled sheet significantly affects its service life. Since durability is one of the most important criteria for any building material, you need to know what types of coatings a profiled sheet can have, how to choose the right one for your task, and in what cases you can save money.

The most inexpensive, but at the same time, the most short-lived coating is zinc. Decking with a protective layer of this material is used for the construction of temporary fences, formwork, as well as for some outbuildings. Such a profiled sheet is practically not used by private developers, since its service life is only 15-25 years, and it quickly loses its appearance.

An example of a profiled sheet with an embossed coating of 200 µm and a service life of 40-50 years

Alu-zinc coating is more reliable; in addition to zinc, it contains 55% aluminum and 1.6% silicon. A professional sheet with such a coating lasts much longer than with a simple zinc one, and is most often used for the manufacture of prefabricated garages. Much less often it is used for the construction of hangars and warehouses. Again, such material is practically not used by private developers.

The most expensive, but also the most durable, is a polymer coating. It is this material that is mainly used in modern construction, since its service life is 25-50 years, and it can be of almost any color.

Different polymers can be used as a protective layer. If you are interested in the question of how to choose the right polymer-coated corrugated board, then you should focus on the price and operating conditions of the material. The fact is that the listed polymers differ in chemical composition and, as a result, resistance to various external influences.

In Russia, a profiled sheet with a protective coating of the following materials is most often used:

  1. Polyester. A professional sheet with such a coating is the cheapest. It is not afraid of high temperatures, has a service life of 25 years, but is not resistant to mechanical stress. Therefore, during transportation and installation, it is necessary to observe increased accuracy, since the polyester layer is very thin and easily scratched.
  2. Pural. This material is extremely wear-resistant and its service life reaches 40 years. In addition, it is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, is resistant to chemical and mechanical stress, as well as temperature extremes. Since it is quite expensive, pural is usually used in aggressive environments: on the sea coast, in industrial areas, in areas with increased solar activity or humidity.
  3. Plastisol. Very wear-resistant coating, which is applied in a thick layer and perfectly withstands aggressive environments. It burns out in the sun, and also does not tolerate heating to high temperatures. Therefore, it is not recommended to use it in hot regions. The color scheme is usually light, texturing is possible. It is used in the regions of the north and the central strip in areas with aggressive climatic or man-made conditions.
  4. PVDF. Decking with such a coating practically does not fade, is resistant to chemical and mechanical stress, and has a long service life. However, it is very expensive, so it is rarely used.

Thus, to summarize, during construction in the absence of high temperatures and aggressive environments, ordinary polyester is quite suitable. But if you are building, for example, on the seashore, then you should pay more attention to the question of which corrugated board to choose so that it lasts as long as possible.

Criteria for choosing high-quality corrugated board

The above shows how to choose a metal profile based on the fundamental aspects: brand, thickness, coating. However, there is also the question of the banal quality of the material.

To protect yourself from fakes, substandard products and simply unscrupulous manufacturers, you need to follow just a few simple rules.

First of all, carefully inspect the material before buying. It must meet the following criteria:

  1. The surface of a high-quality profiled sheet should be smooth and free of dents and any other external defects.
  2. The edges of the sheet should be even, without burrs.
  3. Coloring should be uniform, without sagging and chips.
  4. When bending the sheet, the polymer layer should not break or crack, and the profiled sheet should easily take its previous shape when unbent.

If you buy a large lot, the sheets can be inspected selectively, but very carefully and at least a few randomly from one package.

Necessarily pay attention to whether there is a guarantee for corrugated board from the manufacturer, and for how long it is given. If the manufacturer claims that the service life of the profiled sheet is 25 years or more, but gives a guarantee for a year or does not give it at all, this is a serious reason to refuse the purchase.

Always check certificates of conformity, which are sure to come with each batch of corrugated board. Of course, their presence does not guarantee that you have excellent quality material, since everything is bought and sold in Russia. But this way you can protect yourself from very low-quality materials that do not have these certificates.

And the last - consider the reputation of the seller. If you buy material on the market in a small store, then the probability of buying a low-quality item is incommensurably higher than if you purchase a profiled sheet in a large building hypermarket. Although in the latter such a probability is also far from zero. It is most reliable to work with those sellers who were recommended to you by your relatives or friends after a successful personal experience.

In order to understand which corrugated board is better for the roof of a house, you should take into account:

  • the loads to which the future roof will be subjected;
  • roof configuration;
  • climatic features of the region;
  • type of building, architectural style of the building.

And don’t let the impressiveness of this list scare you: it’s quite easy to assess the situation and make a choice on your own.

Mechanical influences

The roof of a building traditionally experiences the following types of loads:

  • pressure of snow cover, ice;
  • the weight of people moving on the roof;
  • wind load.

The average height of snow cover in the region can be determined from special tables. This parameter is especially relevant for flat roofs due to the lack of the possibility of spontaneous snow melting.

The possibility of roof maintenance appears when the roofing material is able to withstand the weight of an adult with a margin. An alternative, often used on roofs with steep slopes, is the use of walkways. They are mounted on the boards of the crate and distribute the weight on the truss system. But for the full maintenance of large-scale roofs, entire routes will have to be laid, which is not always economically justified.

The resistance of a steel sheet to gusts of wind depends rather on the quality of its fastening. But in areas where squally winds are not uncommon, the profiled sheet wins, which copes better with bending and torsion deformations. What kind of corrugated board is needed for the roof of a houselocated in a region with high wind pressure? One or more of the following options:

  • thicker steel base;
  • high corrugation;
  • reinforcement elements in the form of ribs and grooves that complement the trapezoidal profile.

In order to find out what thickness of corrugated board is best for the roof, in addition to loads, the configuration of the under-roof structure should be taken into account.

Roof configuration

The ability of a profiled steel sheet to withstand loads depends on its length, thickness and the number of load-bearing elements of the truss system on which it relies. Thus, if there is a need to cover a span of considerable length with one sheet without joints, you can:

  • purchase material of greater thickness;
  • strengthen the truss system and use a multi-span laying scheme.

However, it should be understood that the weight of profiled sheets of the same type, but of different thicknesses, may differ by one and a half to two times. Take this into account when assessing the margin of safety of the under-roof structure and the entire structure as a whole.

The influence of climate on the choice of corrugated board

The corrugated board laid on the roof is subjected to various influences of a natural and anthropogenic nature:

  • contact with atmospheric precipitation, which may also contain compounds aggressive to metal;
  • exposure to ultraviolet light.

The surface layer of zinc is the minimum protection that steel manufacturers give to a profiled sheet. And a similar option is often found as a roofing material for outbuildings, change houses, temporary buildings.

Residential buildings, commercial facilities and other buildings with a long service life require more serious protection. And this role is successfully performed by the polymer coating. We will find out what kind of corrugated roofing is depending on the type of front cover. It is evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • corrosion resistance;
  • permissible category of aggressiveness of the environment;
  • maximum operating temperature;
  • resistance to ultraviolet radiation.

A temperate climate, an average number of sunny days per year, a significant distance from industrial enterprises, timely elimination of defects - in such an environment, polyester will successfully cope with corrosion protection and retain its shade for a long time.

If there is a possibility of active influences on the roof (mechanical, chemical compounds, aggressive ultraviolet radiation), you should pay attention to improved coatings. To improve performance, developers increase the overall polymer layer, as well as modernize its composition in order to increase mechanical resistance (to scratching, abrasion, cracking), flexural strength, adhesion, impact resistance, etc.

Choosing a decor for the roof

The cost of advanced coatings is not only a payment for protective characteristics, but also additional possibilities for decorating the roof. An expanded palette of shades, a choice of gloss levels, actual textures - a great opportunity to enhance, smooth or complement the decorative effect of the selected material profile.

To save on the purchase of roofing material, you just need to choose a responsible manufacturer. And already the specialists of the Metal Profile Company will tell you which corrugated board is better for the roof of the house: high-quality, durable, inexpensive, the one that suits you.

Profiled metal sheet, shortly called corrugated sheet or corrugated board, belongs to the category of building materials for universal use. With it, you can build fences, clad the facades of building structures, use it as part of sandwich panels. They also use corrugated board for arranging the roofs of private houses.

The question - which corrugated board is better for the roof - is not at all idle. The choice of material is complicated by the variety of manufactured sheet modifications. If we want to understand which material to choose, we should understand the performance of its various types and conduct a comparative analysis of technical characteristics.

Roofing from corrugated board can have quite a decent design

Features of the use of corrugated roofing

The widespread use of corrugated board as a roof covering is due to its excellent performance and low cost. The professional flooring represents the galvanized metal sheet made by method of cold rolled steel. The product has high mechanical strength, which is enhanced by stiffening ribs on its surface, which have a trapezoid or wave shape in cross section.

Profiling is carried out on machines with forming rollers, then a double-sided protective coating is applied to the surface. The applied manufacturing technology determines the high performance of an inexpensive building material. The use of corrugated board in the arrangement of the roof has the following advantages:

  • ease of installation;
  • long service life;
  • fire and environmental safety;
  • light weight;
  • variety of colors;
  • the ability to perform a coating without joints.

It is very convenient to cover the roof with long sheets of corrugated board

Corrugated board as a roofing can be used on almost any roof with an angle of inclination exceeding eight degrees. A soft coating is laid on flat roofs, as atmospheric moisture accumulates on them, which quickly starts corrosion processes in metal sheets.

The standard length of the sheet allows you to make a surface without butt joints. Another advantage is the absence of an unpleasant odor, unlike many other modern materials.

The disadvantages include strong heating of the coating by direct rays of the sun, a hot summer day and you can get burned when touched. In addition, the sound of raindrops drumming on the roof is clearly audible in residential areas.

Grades and properties of profiled sheets for roofs

The answer to the question of what material is better to cover the roof is largely determined by the technical parameters of a particular material. The operational characteristics of profiled sheets differ in accordance with their thickness, which determines the weight per square meter of the coating, the geometric dimensions of the profile, the properties of the protective coating and its color design.

This profile is best suited for the roof

Usually, the letter "H" marks products that can withstand an increased load-bearing load, "C" - used for arranging wall ceilings, universal-purpose products are marked with the letters "HC". And what brand is best for arranging the roof?

A profile with a low shelf is best used on a roof with a large slope

For laying on the roof, it is best to use profiled sheets with the index “H” and “HC”, they have geometric profile dimensions that provide high resistance to load-bearing loads, which is an important characteristic for a roof on which snowdrifts form in winter.

Probably, such a shape of the profile will make it possible to implement the planned roof design.

The classification of the profiled sheet into bearing, wall and universal is rather arbitrary. In specific operating conditions, the height and shape of the profile, as well as the thickness of the sheet, should be taken into account.

Geometric dimensions of the profiled sheet

The main geometric parameters that determine the mass of the profiled sheet and other technical characteristics are its width, length and thickness, as well as the shape and height of the profile. The main types of profiled metal sheet with their geometric dimensions are shown in the photo.

The geometric shape of the sheet is described by a set of numbers, the first of which shows the height of the profile, the second - the thickness of the sheet, the third - its width, the fourth - the length. For example, the alphanumeric code H is 23.0.5. 750. 11000 designates: profiled load-bearing sheet, profile height 23 mm, sheet thickness 0.5 mm, width - 750 mm, length - 11000 mm. The length, thickness, weight, width, pitch and height of the C 21 corrugated board profile are shown in the following table.

Rolling machines allow the production of profiled sheets twelve meters long. Usually they are cut into six-meter strips for ease of transportation. Manufacturers of this type of product in the technical documentation indicate two sheet widths. This is due to the fact that the designated parameter may vary depending on the height of the profile, thus, there is the concept of the total and working width of the sheet.

The calculations take into account the so-called useful dimensions that remain after overlapping the edges of the sheets.

Material thickness

One of the most important operational parameters of corrugated board is its thickness. It determines the cost of one square meter of coverage to the greatest extent. The duration of operation of the roof made from it directly depends on this parameter of the metal sheet.

An increase of one tenth of a millimeter extends the service life by approximately five years. In addition, the ability to carry load-bearing loads is increased. A sheet of corrugated board with a thickness of 0.7 mm can withstand two hundred and ninety-five kilograms per square meter, and eight tenths of a millimeter - already four hundred and nine kilograms per square meter.

Decking of sufficient thickness will withstand the load of snow even on a flat roof

The thickness of profiled metal sheets varies from 0.3 to one millimeter. For roofing, the optimal value of this parameter is 0.5 or 0.45 mm. At first glance, it seems that such an insignificant thickness of the metal does not provide the necessary strength, but due to the presence of stiffeners, a team of installers moves along such a coating without damaging it.

Coating and color of corrugated board

The protective coating of corrugated board prevents the development of corrosion processes in it and protects the corrugated board from the aggressive effects of the external environment. There are the following types of coverage:

  • Good value for money galvanized. The disadvantages include strong heating in direct sunlight. This creates problems in hot summers, so it is most advisable to use this option for arranging the roof of outbuildings, barns, garages, and so on.
  • Aluminum-silicon with excellent resistance to aggressive influences. Outdoor pavilions and gazebos covered with such material serve for a very long time.
  • Pural, which increases resistance to negative temperatures and ultraviolet radiation. This effect is provided by polyamide components.
  • Polyester with a glossy and matte surface. It is resistant to color fading, low cost, but has low mechanical strength and easily chipped.
  • Plastisol withstanding significant changes in ambient temperatures. Notch in the form of strokes and relief embossing increase the reliability of this type of coating.

Far from a complete list of possible options for coloring corrugated board

Of no small importance when choosing is the color scheme of the corrugated board. In addition to the fact that the color should be practical and not cause much effort to maintain, harmony with the surrounding landscape and the overall architectural design of the building is required. You should not use green if the house is located in a dense garden. Coloring is carried out according to the standards designated by Latin letters RAL, HTS and RR. The most convenient German RAL color marking system.

In the described scheme, the primary colors are indicated by the first digit of the individual code. For example, about thirty yellow options correspond to one, thirteen orange options correspond to two, twenty-five red options correspond to three. There are about ten basic colors, and they form a palette that exceeds a thousand shades. Such a wealth of color options allows you to realize any design ideas.

Roof slope and material consumption

Profiled metal sheet is used only on pitched roofs. It is impractical to use them on flat roofs, since water accumulations form there, which will lead to a quick start of corrosion processes, first at the attachment points, and then, literally, everywhere.

When longitudinally placing several sheets on the roof, and not one whole, it is important to take into account the slope of the roof slope. The consumption of material depends on the angle of the roof, since depending on this parameter, the degree of overlap of the sheets of corrugated board changes to form a reliable surface. It should provide unhindered rolling of rainwater and melted snow.

When installing the roof, unsuitable trimmings of corrugated board will inevitably appear.

With a decrease in the angle of inclination, it is necessary to increase the amount of overlap of sheets in the horizontal direction. This leads to a decrease in the usable area. The same can be said about the overlap in the vertical direction: the smaller the slope, the more waves overlap with each other.

A roof slope of less than ten degrees requires an overlap of about 0.3 meters and additional sealing of the joints. Up to fifteen degrees - 0.2 meters, up to thirty - 0.17 meters, above this value, the overlap can be from 100 to 150 mm. The specific degree of overlap should be taken into account when calculating the amount of material required to complete the job.

Profiled sandwich panels

Sandwich panels got their name from the English name for a multilayer sandwich. In accordance with this, they are a structure made of a metal profiled sheet and a heater connected to it.

The combination of a tough, durable outer layer and high-quality insulation improves the performance of the material and its area of use. Sandwich panels are often used in prefabricated modular building structures as wall panels.

Examples of sandwich panels using corrugated board

They can significantly reduce the thickness of the walls and, accordingly, reduce the load on the base of the building. In addition, installation is simplified, and the construction time of the building as a whole is reduced. They are also used for arranging a warm roof. Sandwich panels made of profiled sheet have the following advantages:

  • ease of transportation and installation;
  • resistance to moisture;
  • excellent decorative properties;
  • heat-saving and soundproofing qualities;
  • fire safety;
  • long period of operation.

Sandwich panels designed for roofing are equipped with special locking joints. They prevent the penetration of water into the structure and allow you to successfully withstand wind and snow influences. There are two-layer and three-layer sandwich panels. Two-layer - used for arranging rooms in which decorative surface finishing will be performed. Three-layer - do not require finishing of the roofing from the inside.

The following practical recommendations will help you choose the right profiled metal sheet for specific purposes. You should not make the main criterion for choosing a product its cost, so you can buy simply unsuitable material.

It is necessary to determine the scope and features of the operation of the metal profile and, based on this, choose the desired modification. For example, the use of a carrier profile for arranging a fence cannot be justified from any point of view.

On the roof of corrugated board, snow retainers are very relevant

Choosing the type of coverage, you should not be guided by the simple desire to have a roof or a fence of a certain color. You need to understand that, in addition to decorative qualities, the coating has a functional purpose: it comes in different thicknesses, differs in application technology, and so on. It is necessary to understand these nuances. Both matte and glossy types of coating are popular, the former being considered more reliable.

Particular attention should be paid to the thickness of the metal sheet, because its cost and service life directly depend on this characteristic.

Another practical recommendation is that you should not use the services of online stores to purchase a metal profiled sheet. It is impossible to assess the quality of the products offered by the photos published on their websites. It is much better to place an order at the office of a reputable company, after making sure of the quality of the goods.

Traditionally, slate has been the most sought-after roofing material until recently. However, now a completely new roofing has appeared on the building materials market - corrugated board. Let's see what a metal profile is, what advantages and disadvantages it has. It differs in the increased durability, durability and decorative effect. In this article, we will try to figure out which corrugated roofing is better to choose from the types of material offered on the market.

One of the advantages of a profile sheet for roofing is its color variety, as well as significant variability in thickness and dimensions. The durability of the material is ensured by a polymer coating or a special composition.

Advantages of corrugated board

As for the thickness of the metal for the roof, this figure ranges from 0.1-0.8 mm.

When deciding which metal profile to choose for the roof, you should also pay attention to the type of protective layer.

Zinc-coated corrugated board can be a viable option for outbuildings such as a garage or barn. Such material is able to reflect ultraviolet, therefore, it is less heated in hot weather. In addition, the price for it is quite reasonable. However, it is not decorative enough, so it is rarely used in residential construction. It is noteworthy that the zinc coating is applied to both sides of the profiled sheet thanks to a special production technology.

The aluminum-silicon protective coating applied to the metal profile allows it to effectively withstand the effects of external factors. Such material is quite strong and durable.

In the manufacture of a cold-rolled profile sheet, a combined coating of aluminum and zinc is applied. However, such protection is still not as reliable as the previous type. This material is less resistant to aggressive environments and humidity, and is also less durable.

If one of the determining factors in deciding which profiled sheet to choose for a roof is a decorative component, then it is better to focus on a material with a colored polymer coating.

Polymer components can be as follows:

  • Polyester does not have a long service life and eventually begins to lag behind the profile, however, it gives the material a decorative effect.
  • Polyvinyl difluoride - provides the material with high quality characteristics. A metal profile with such a coating is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and chemical attack, therefore, it is the most durable among all material options. Nevertheless, such a professional flooring is very expensive.
  • Pural is a material similar to polyvinyl difluoride, so its strength characteristics are very similar. However, a profiled sheet with such a coating is somewhat cheaper than the previous type.

The quality of the roofing profile is generally determined by its structure. First of all, the corrugated steel billet is coated with one of the options for anti-corrosion protection. On top of it, the sheets are opened with a special chromate layer, thanks to which all subsequent layers of the coating will adhere well to the base.

At the next stage, the corrugated board is primed, after which it is treated with a decorative finishing polymer coating. At the same time, choosing the optimal color for the environment and the general exterior of the house is quite simple.

To combine and fix metal profile sheets on the roof sheathing, you will need:

  • Purchase special self-tapping screws that are compatible with the color scheme of the profiled sheet.
  • In the places where the screws are fastened in the profiled sheet, it is necessary to drill holes. Self-tapping screws will then be screwed into them using a screwdriver with a special nozzle.

Production of sandwich panels from corrugated board

Sandwich panels are actively used in cases where it is necessary to insulate pitched roofs, sheathe frame wall partitions. For these purposes, corrugated board fits perfectly.

In terms of structure, sandwich panels are two outer layers of a metal profile, between which an insulating material is laid. The inner insulation layer can be made of expanded polystyrene, polyurethane foam or basalt mineral wool. If we are talking about sandwich panels for the roof, then the outer side, which will go out into the street, is made of metal profiles of the bearing type, with a corrugation height in the range of 140-160 mm. The inner part of such panels is sheathed with even profiled sheets, for example, wall-type.

Often sandwich panels consist not of two, but of three layers. This design is best suited for equipping the interior of the attic. It is noteworthy that due to the special structure, three-layer sandwich panels can simultaneously provide insulation, sound insulation, and high-quality roofing.

The use of a thin metal profile as a roofing material will necessarily be associated with roof insulation work. This becomes especially relevant in regions with a harsh climate. In this case, sandwich panels will allow you to do without additional work, since their design already provides for the solution of all possible problems.

When choosing which profiled sheet is best for a roof, it is worth stopping at materials equipped with locking joints. As a rule, such locks are a wave on a metal profile, on which there is no layer of insulating material.

Thus, there are several positive characteristics of this type of roofing material:

  • multifunctionality - solves several problems at once, in particular, overlapping the outer side of the roof and interior decoration of the attic;
  • cost savings - there is no need to purchase separately different types of materials for roofing;
  • heat resistance - especially those options inside which mineral wool is laid;
  • ease of installation;
  • low weight - can significantly reduce the load on the load-bearing structures.

It should be noted that sandwich panels are successfully used not only for covering roofs, but also as an insulating layer for walls in residential, industrial and household premises.

The relationship between roof slopes and the amount of roofing material

During the construction process, it is important to take into account not only which roof profile is better, but also what the slope of the slopes will be, so that precipitation flows freely from the roof surface and does not linger on it. The slope of the roof slope will affect the thickness of the overlap with which adjacent sheets of corrugated board must be laid if the length of one sheet is not enough to cover the roof from the ridge run to the overhang.

In particular, at an angle of inclination of slopes up to 10º, the laying of individual sheets of metal profiles is carried out with an overlap of 30 cm, having treated the joints with a sealant to prevent leakage. An angle of inclination within 10-15º requires an overlap of pieces of corrugated board with a width of 20 cm or more. If the roof slope is in the range of 15-30º, then the width of the overlap can be reduced to 17 mm. And if the slopes are even steeper, then 10-15 cm of overlap is enough.

When using corrugated roofing, it is recommended to make a slope of at least 20 degrees. If it is necessary to replace the roofing material on the finished roof, and its conversion is considered inappropriate, the angle of inclination should be at least 10 degrees. In this case, the seams must be treated with a sealant.

Please note that in cases where the angle of inclination of the slopes does not exceed 10 degrees, the laying of corrugated board in width must be carried out with an overlap of two waves.

The method of laying a metal profile for a roof

Once you have decided which corrugated board is best for the roof of the garage, you can proceed directly to its installation.

The sequence of work looks like this:

  • A crate is laid on top of the rafter system for fastening the roofing profiled sheet. The size of the cell will depend on the steepness of the slope. In cases where the slope of the roof does not exceed 10 degrees, equip a continuous crate. The width of the step between the board of the crate increases as the steepness of the slope increases. As a rule, for a slope with an average slope, the crate pitch is 45 cm, and if the slope angle is more than 30 degrees, then 60 cm.
  • Under the crate it is necessary to lay a layer of waterproofing film. This film will be attached to the rafters with thin slats, called a counter-lattice. To protect wood from decay and fungus, it must be treated with antiseptics.
  • At 90 degrees, the rails of the counter-lattice are nailed to the main crate under the corrugated board with the desired step.
  • Before you cover the garage with a profiled sheet, you should once again check the diagonals of the slopes. In case of discrepancies in length, it is necessary to correct it by adding additional laths of the crate.
  • Laying should begin from the lower end of the roof, if the length of 1 sheet of metal profile is not enough for a vertical row. Further advancement is carried out at the request of the master - from left to right or vice versa. In this case, the installation of the next vertical row begins on the same side as the first. As an option, stepwise laying is used.
  • Do not immediately make a major fixation of the starting sheet of the metal profile. First, it needs to be trimmed with the next sheet along the wave and the cornice, so at first they screw it on one self-tapping screw.
  • The second sheet is laid with an overlap on the first, after which they are fastened in the lower part of the wave in increments of 35-40 cm.
  • Do not overtighten the screws to avoid deformation of the metal.
  • Do not step on the profiled sheets during fastening, so that they do not bend. It is convenient to work on a special ladder, which is fixed on the roof ridges and periodically moved.

Having decided on the parameters of the metal corrugated board - color, metal thickness, corrugation height and finish coating, you need to start calculating the amount of material. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the slope of the slopes, the size of the roof, as well as the dimensions of the metal profile sheets. Thus, you can purchase the required amount of material without overpaying for the surplus.
