Entrance door: dimensions, characteristics and design features. Standard dimensions of entrance and interior doorways Entry door frame size

Modern technologies make it possible to create metal entrance doors of various shapes, sizes and protective characteristics. Steel is one of the most popular materials for the iron model range. It guarantees strength, rigidity of the structure, but requires exact correspondence between the parameters of the leaf and the box, the box and the doorway.

In the first case, in order to eliminate errors during installation, to avoid inconvenience in operation, manufacturers take responsibility for producing the entire set. It includes:

    a box made of a corner of a closed rectangular or U-shaped shape (the threshold is ready-made or made separately), its components: crossbar, guides;

    door leaf made of steel sheets soldered together;

    amplifiers - "stiffening ribs": longitudinal, transverse or V forms (sometimes a combination of them), increasing the strength of the web and preventing deformation of its surface;

    inner lining;

    external facade decoration, made of various decorative materials;

    a sealant located between the canvas and the skin to increase thermal protection;

    fastening systems - hinges: open, hidden, equipped with anti-burglary systems;

    platbands;

    additional elements: locks, latches, peephole, handles, seals.

The correct ratio of the dimensions of the box and the opening can only be guaranteed by well-conducted measurements, as well as further careful selection of the design. Measurements can be performed by both representatives of a specialized company and the customer himself. To do this, you need to study the existing regulations. All linear values of entrance doors are interconnected, determined by SNIPs and GOSTs, under which the sizes of non-standard models are often adjusted.

What sizes are in Russia?

The linear dimensions of the input block design are affected by the technical requirements for the operation of the premises. Therefore, street doors in a country house will always be wider than in an apartment. Openings facing landings and vestibules should not be narrower than the width of the flight of stairs. This is convenient for moving large furniture, evacuation during emergencies.

The dimensions of the input iron blocks that meet the fire safety requirements of SNiP 210197:

  • height - not less than 1900 mm;
  • width for residential buildings - from 800 mm, for public (more than 15 people) - from 1200 mm.

The main parameters of the standard dimensions of the block of entrance metal doors are within the limits (in mm):

    according to the height of the box - from 2070 to 2370.

    According to the width of the door or light opening for the living space:

    For single-leaf - from 800 to 1000,

    For one and a half - from 1300 to 1500,

    For bivalves - from 1910 to 1950,

  • According to the thickness of the block (door with a frame):

    With a brick wall 75 mm - 108;

    With a standard wooden beam - no more than 120,

    In panel houses - 120-130.

In regulatory documents, the height of the threshold for the front door for the house is from 20 to 45 mm. Higher in residential buildings is not allowed: during a fire, it will be problematic for people with disabilities to leave the house.

Compliance with standards guarantees the strength, convenience, durability of metal products.

Options for ready-made solutions for door blocks:

  1. For single doors (in mm) - 1980x850, 2030x860, 2050x880, 2050x960, 2070x900, 2100x950, 2100x1000. Small blocks can be used in extensions. The optimal combination of the size of the entrance metal doors and the box is 2500x900.
  2. For double doors (in mm) - 2050x1300, 2100x1400, 2100x1500, 2100x1600. With a height of 2000-2300 width standard (in mm):
  • 1200 (600 and 600);
  • 1600 (800 and 800);
  • 1800 (900 and 900).

Thickness and weight of a metal door

In Russia, the door leaf comes in two varieties - from welded sheets fixed to the frame, and solid, more durable.

The final thickness of the working surface of the product depends on the number of interconnected steel sheets, corresponds to:

  • for apartments - from 1.5 to 2 mm;
  • for country houses - 2-2.3 mm.

Thicker canvases are used for fireproof, bulletproof models, but they do not provide for frequent opening or closing.

Thin canvases are used if a vestibule is provided in the house.

In all other cases, the standard thickness of the entire door is:

  • for conventional models - from 60 to 80 mm;
  • for reinforced - from 80 to 100 mm.

The final value is formed due to additional structural elements:

  1. Insulation chambers. It is necessary for residential buildings, because up to 25% of heat is lost through an ordinary door. Depending on the material used by the manufacturer and the number of its layers, the parameters of the required internal space are formed.
  2. Sealing circuit. It is used for better tightness, which helps to retain heat and prevent odors from the entrance. Depending on the thickness of the iron doors, 2 or 3 circuits are installed. The design with three sealing circuits corresponds to a door thickness of 80 mm.

Sometimes you have to make a choice between the level of protection and the beauty of the door: any reinforcement, additional finishing entail an increase in its weight, which should not exceed 250 kg. The limiting values of the thickness of the canvas of ordinary and all reinforced models already weigh more than 200 kg.

To reduce the load on the box, to prevent deformation of the web, these models are mounted not on two, but on three or four loops.

Non-standard doors

Non-standard doors include doors that do not match in shape, thickness, height, decorative solution (glass inserts) and the number of reinforcements with average norm values. The permissible parameters of such models are fixed by separate articles of GOSTs and SNIPs.

    Blocks with side and top transoms made to order. The width of their working passage corresponds to a single or double door, the steel reinforcement of the central structure starts 120 mm from the edge of the opening. Typical dimensions of a single-leaf arched door - 2000x800 mm.

    One and a half doors- the narrow sash closes with a latch and opens as needed. With a height of 2000 or 2300 mm, the width is (in mm):

  1. 1200 (400 - stationary sash, 800 - working canvas or 300 and 900);
  2. 1400 (600 and 800 or 500 and 900).

  • Atypical doors also include fire and armored doors:
  1. Fire-fighting thickness - 70 mm, armored - 100-120 mm;
  2. Dimensions (in mm) - 1200x1900, 1200x2050, 2500x2500.

Non-standard entrance openings in apartment buildings must be approved by the BTI. The decision will largely depend on the thickness of the walls of the house, on which floor the redevelopment is planned. In a private building, where we can talk about the supporting structures of the house, you will need to order a project from a specialized organization.

Independent actions without permits will lead to seizure of real estate, an administrative fine.

Metal-plastic and aluminum doors

Today, under the general name of an iron door, several types are hidden, including multi-chamber models. These include:

  1. metal-plastic- has a strong protection system, fairly light in weight, is available with double-glazed windows of different sizes and volumes. When strengthening the profile, such doors are installed in "thermos houses".
  2. Aluminum- the lightest of all metal, with or without double-glazed windows. Thermal protection is high, increased wear resistance. 7 times stronger than wood, 2 times stronger than metal-plastic products.

Complicated calculations of the box and canvas are not made, the technologies allow the production of blocks of any size and immediately in the kit. They differ from steel structures only in thickness - 95-120 mm. The larger the metal profile, the warmer. Due to the lightness of the material, no additional loops are required even at extreme values.

In cottages, entrance blocks are equipped with a push fitting, a lock along the contour, which guarantees a tight fit, and an aluminum threshold of 40 mm. Double-leaf doors can be used with a sash connection.

The selection of the frame to the opening is carried out according to the same principles as for steel entrance doors.

GOST of other countries

European models attract Russian buyers with their design and relative ease of construction. Lighter steel is used for their production. Dimensions comply with DIN regulations, which are guided by the architectural traditions of Europe and are based on the anthropometric data of individual regions. Based on them, people in Finland are taller than in the south of the EU, so the standard entry height for Finns will be higher than in Italy.

There are differences among countries in terms of width. French standard for single leaf doors (in mm): 690, 790, 890, 990. Spanish standard (in mm): 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000.

Imported products require additional expenses:

  • when reworking a block, when an imported canvas is installed in a domestic box;
  • when reducing or increasing the entrance opening.

The warranty period for products is much longer than that of Russian ones - up to 10-20 years, but foreign manufacturers in overwhelming cases cannot ensure the fulfillment of obligations outside the European Union.

Furniture companies operating in Russia or for a long time, at least 5 years, trading in the local market, take into account discrepancies in standards, offering ready-made solutions to eliminate inconveniences. Some manufacturers make batches according to Russian standards.

Chinese models in their parameters coincide with domestic GOSTs.

The supplied models have:

  • in height - 2050 mm;
  • in width single-leaf - 860, 960 mm, one-and-a-half - 1200 mm.
  • in different batches of even one manufacturer, the size of door frames can have a significant difference and change from one delivery to another. Trust is caused by joint Russian-Chinese production facilities, where all products are quality tested according to Russian standards.

How to make the correct measurement?

Before taking measurements, it is necessary to dismantle the old doors, including the architraves. If necessary, remove the threshold.

Rigid metal structures need even walls, therefore, using a level, determine the degree of curvature of the walls. In the case of a large curvature, they are aligned to the standard size of the entrance metal door with a frame, taking into account technical clearances. The same actions are performed with the threshold.

After that, the length, width and depth of the opening are measured with a tape measure. The width and length values are taken from the base of the wall, the results obtained are compared with the reference ones. The clearances are checked.

The opening of non-standard sizes is adjusted to the GOST values: they are expanded with a perforator, a grinder, or they are narrowed to predetermined values with high-quality cement and leveled. The deviation of the plane should not exceed 3 mm along the entire length or width.

What else needs to be considered?

There are technical gaps between the opening, the box and the canvas. They are necessary in order to easily carry out the installation of the unit, to ensure the free movement of the door.

When calculating the door block, this free space is not taken into account, but its presence is implied:

    The inner perimeter of the box is larger than the outer perimeter of the main door structure (excluding the influx) due to gaps:

    In the upper part - 3-5 mm;

    In the lower part - 6-8 mm;

    In width - from 3 to 6 mm to each side.

Door block height = corner or pipe width (30-35 mm) x 2 + door height + gaps.

Door block width = corner width x 2 + door width + gaps.

  • The entrance opening should be larger than the door frame on each side:

    In height - no more than 5 mm at the narrowest point of the opening,

    Width - 2 mm.

Doors can open both inward and outward. In the second case, it is important to ensure that in the open state they do not block the staircase, electrical panels, do not block the entrance to the neighbors' apartment.

Door leafs are used in any room where you need to restrict access to it. One of the most popular components is the entrance canvases, which are subject to special requirements. An important characteristic of such a design is its dimensions, which must correspond to the technical parameters of the opening. Entrance door sizes, standards and advice will help you choose the optimal system.

Doorway Standards

Installing a door leaf is a relatively simple operation, which first of all requires high-quality measurements of all dimensions.

The main factor here is the size of the doorway where the street structure will be installed. This value, according to the standards, must correspond to the dimensions of the entrance doors with a frame.

Doorways come in several standard sizes, depending on the width of the height.

Openings that are suitable for single-leaf entrance canvases have the following dimensions:

  • 630-650 * 1940-2030 mm (range of width and height, respectively);
  • 660-760*1940*2030 mm. The groups of doors considered are the smallest and are installed relatively rarely today;
  • 660-760*2040-2100mm;
  • 770-870*2040-2100mm;
  • 880-970*2040-2100 mm.

Openings where one-and-a-half or double-leaf door systems can be installed are distinguished by already increased width and height values.

  • 980-1100*2040-2100 (width and height ranges respectively).
  • 1280-1300*2040-2100 mm.
  • 1480-1500*2040-2100 mm.
  • 1580-1600*2040-2100 mm.

It should be noted that these dimensions are slightly larger than the dimensions of the doors themselves along with the box. This allows you to quickly install the system, and, if necessary, adjust the location of the door leaf in the wall hole.

There are also openings that allow you to mount doors with a width of up to 1800 mm, but these sizes are not standard and are found only in private homes, although many manufacturers today produce their products for such openings.

What are the designs of canvases

The manufacture of doors is not always carried out in accordance with regulations and standards. This is due to the fact that many owners of private houses equip different types of doorways, so the market for entrance structures is saturated with many varieties that can be divided into several types.

  • Doors with a transom. A feature of this design is an additional insert above the door leaf. It is intended to close the opening with a non-standard height of the doorway;

  • Single leaf. These are standard types of entrance doors, which consist of one leaf. Their width can vary from 60 to 90 cm, depending on the manufacturer. This type is the most common and is installed both in residential apartments and industrial facilities.

  • One and a half. The canvas of such a door consists of two moving leaves that are fixed in the box, but one of them is much smaller than the second. Often the width of the small side can vary in the range of 40-60 cm, depending on the dimensions of the second canvas. Use such double doors only for the purpose of expanding the opening for convenient use or when it has non-standard dimensions. At the same time, the small sash almost always remains motionless and opens very rarely.

  • Double doors. These systems consist of two full sashes that correspond to the standard sizes of single-leaf counterparts. The width of both parts is equal and can be 60, 80 or 90 cm depending on the type of construction. Double-leaf canvases are great for country houses, where the wall opening is much easier to fit to their size, while one leaf can be fixed in the box, and the second can be used as the main one.

In some cases, both leaves move, but this is extremely rare in typical front doors.

Installation guidelines

Entrance doors are not only an item to protect the home, but also a kind of barrier when leaving. According to modern GOSTs, these structures are also service exits for operation in emergency situations, so all the characteristics of doorways (both for a country house and an apartment) must comply with these requirements (SNiP 210197). It is important here that the exit allows high-quality and fast evacuation.

Therefore, it must have the following parameters.

  • The minimum height must be 1900 mm;
  • The width of the free space of the open door must exceed 800 mm.

If the doors are installed in public places (cafes, offices, and so on), then they must be equipped with a structure with a width of at least 1.2 m. In turn, the minimum height remains the same as for cottages and other types of private houses.

As for the outer doors (front doors) of multi-storey residential buildings, the width of the opening should not be less than the flight of stairs. This is necessary to ensure the evacuation of people in case of fire and the like. Almost all manufacturers are guided by these recommendations and produce canvases that meet these requirements.

Today there are several brands of standard metal entrance doors, which differ in their dimensions:

  • 21-9. This design is equipped with a box with a size of 2071 * 870 mm, and the canvas itself has 2000 * 800 mm;
  • 21-13. The doors of this brand are complemented by a box with a height of 2071 mm and a width of 1272 mm, in which a product with dimensions of 2000 * 1202 mm is placed. Often, one and a half models have such characteristics, which are complemented by two doors with a size of 800 mm and 400 mm;
  • 21-15. Optimum sizes of door leafs for double-leaf modifications. The system is complemented by a box with dimensions of 2371*1472 mm, and the canvas itself has dimensions of 2300*1402 mm;
  • 21-19. This type of structure is the largest. Box dimensions reach 2371*1872 mm. Inside this frame, you can install a canvas with a height of 2300 mm and a width of 1802 mm. Two sashes are also used here, which have a width of 900 mm.

Please note that this list is not complete and is supplemented by several more modifications with distinctive parameters. According to the standard, there are several more modifications of such structures. This document describes not only the dimensions of the products, but also the characteristics of the sections of each of their types.

It is necessary to carry out all calculations when choosing doors only according to the external dimensions of the box.

If you take into account only the canvas, then the opening may simply be small for this system, and in the future you will have to expand it or buy a new door structure.

Benefits of standard sizes

Standardization of door leaf sizes is one way to optimize the production of these products. This allows companies to use special equipment that does not need to be reconfigured for minimal size changes.

Products of standard sizes have several advantages:

  • Present on the market many modifications of door panels. This allows you to choose the optimal model for any taste or style of the room. Manufacturers produce not only classic metal models, but insulated versions that are not afraid of temperature changes;
  • Ease of installation. This is due to the fact that the door leaf practically coincides with the size of the opening. To fix the structure, you just need to fix it with special anchors or other mounting systems; to install non-standard one-and-a-half modifications in the opening for single-leaf models, you need to expand the opening. Please note that this will lead to time and money costs (use of auxiliary tools, purchase of additional finishing materials, etc.);

  • Price. Standard door sizes can significantly reduce the price of them. This is achieved through the use of the same production algorithms that can be easily automated. Some modifications are made using cheap materials, which also affects the price;
  • Versatility. Installed doors in such an opening are very easy to replace with new ones, for this you just need to dismantle the structure and insert a standard product instead of the old one. All this will require a minimum level of opening preparation.

Features of measurement systems

Manufacturers of door panels must focus on many characteristics. One of these parameters is the measurement system. The English type is considered classic, which involves the calculation of all dimensions in feet.

According to this system, standard doors have the following dimensions with conversion to the metric system:

  • Height 6 feet 8 inches. In the metric system, this value is 203.2 cm;
  • Width 2 feet 9 inches (84 cm).

In our country today, the metric system for measuring door panels has been adopted.

The standard sizes of these products are slightly different from English:

  • Width can vary from 60 to 160 cm;
  • The height, in turn, should be no more than 205 cm.

It should be understood that there is still a slight correspondence between these systems, and this allows in some cases to replace doors of one type with another. It is also important to consider not only the dimensions of the canvas, but also the dimensions of the opening itself. When buying, be sure to specify on the basis of which system the product was made, this will eliminate unforeseen problems, such as a mismatch between the elements of the mounting system and the existing opening.

How to measure parameters correctly

Entrance doors are installed in order to protect the house from burglary, so it is so important to choose the optimal designs that fit into the doorway and securely fix in it. The algorithm for measuring the opening parameters can be divided into several successive steps:

  1. Before determining the dimensions, you should gain access to the end of the wall to which the door frame is attached. If you have an old structure installed, then you need to dismantle the platbands that cover the wall;
  2. Then you can start measuring. All characteristics of the opening are measured in several places. This is necessary to get the best result. Sometimes the opening can be skewed, then, taking a measurement at a random point, you can choose the wrong product. Only minimum values need to be taken into account;
  3. If the door leaf is dismantled, then before measuring, it is imperative to check the quality of the finish of the ends. If there is plaster on the wall surface that will crumble, it is better to remove it before measuring. If necessary, you can also align the contours of the hole to give it the most correct shape.

After taking all measurements from the opening, you should compare the obtained values with the standard ones. Often, many doors correspond to such parameters, since they must a priori have classic dimensions.

Each opening has a certain correspondence with the door leafs.

  • A hole with dimensions of 208 * 88 cm is intended for installation of a structure in which these values do not exceed 205 * 85 cm;
  • The entrance passage with dimensions of 210*100 cm will accommodate a door with dimensions of 207*97 cm;
  • If it is planned to install reinforced door structures, then the size of the opening should be only 1-3 cm larger than the box. For example, products with dimensions of 205 * 86.5 cm will fit an opening 89 cm wide and not more than 208 cm high.

Please note that almost all door structures for each of the criteria (height and width) are approximately 3-4 cm smaller than the hole where they are installed, therefore, by measuring the dimensions of the doorway, it will not be difficult to find out the technical characteristics of the modification. After that, you just need to compare the obtained values with the standard dimensions of factory products and select the desired model.

When calculating the dimensions, one should take into account not only the parameters of the canvas, but also the thickness of the door frame.

As for the thickness of the doors and frames, these characteristics are often not important. This is due to the fact that the width of the end of the wall in most cases is much larger than the thickness of the canvas, however, this factor is especially important if the door is bought to protect against breaking or insulate the room. The simplest metal and wooden structures are about 5-6 cm thick. They are equipped with a classic set of functions and cannot always provide high-quality thermal insulation.

There are special armored doors on the market that not only protect the house, but also keep the heat inside. Such products are already equipped with internal insulation and thicker steel sheets. Due to this, the thickness of the web increases.

A simple algorithm for calculating the dimensions of a door structure involves the summation of several characteristics:

  • Width or height of the canvas;
  • The thickness of the door frame;
  • The width of the mounting gaps between the box and the wall.

In this case, the width of the gaps and the thickness of the box must be taken into account twice. When calculating the height, you must also add the threshold parameters, if it is present. If you are not sure that you can get all the necessary characteristics correctly, it is better to entrust the measurements to the installer company. Often, this role is played by a store where doors are purchased, and its specialists deliver and install them.

How to choose by type of house

Door leafs were constantly improved, which led to a periodic change in their technical characteristics. Today, many old panel houses are equipped with structures that do not correspond to modern trends in size. This not only complicates the manufacture of products, but also complicates the process of installing new systems.

Each type of house previously used a certain type of door leaf:

  • Brick five-story buildings. In such structures, doors with dimensions of 860 * 2050 mm were often installed, but some unscrupulous developers deliberately narrowed these holes, which now does not allow the standard modification of the door leaf to be installed here. Therefore, before replacing such a device in a five-story building, it is imperative to measure all parameters;
  • The so-called "Stalinka". A feature of such buildings is that the doorways here have an increased height, which today does not fit almost any modern standard. This size in some cases can reach a value of 2300-2400 mm;
  • Panel houses. The dimensions of the doors in these buildings often meet modern requirements. Here there are openings with dimensions of 860 * 2050 mm and 960 * 2050 mm. Under these values, today you can pick up doors that are produced by manufacturers, so installation in such buildings is often not difficult and requires only compliance with the technology.

Before buying and further installing the door frame and leaf, you need to know the dimensions of the entrance doors. In Soviet houses, the parameters of the passages correspond to state standards. In new multi-storey buildings and private houses, they may differ from the parameters established by GOST and SNiP.

Designs comply with state standards. During construction, organizations use GOST and SNiP. These are official documents. They contain the parameters of the entrance and interior passages. Three dimensions are taken into account: height, width and thickness of the opening.

Height

The standard is the length range from 2030 to 2070 mm. Before purchasing a box and canvas, it is necessary to make a preliminary measurement and avoid mistakes.

Important! Entrance structures and passages should be larger than interior ones. Through them you need to bring furniture, household appliances.

By width

According to state standards, there are several parameters. Minimum specifications - 900910 mm. The maximum size of a single leaf is 1010 mm. If we talk about one and a half structures, their width varies from 1310 to 1510 mm. Doors, consisting of two parts, have the following parameters - 1910, 1950 mm.

Thickness

In terms of this parameter, there are no strict rules and regulations. The thickness directly depends on the overall design and the material used. The thickness should be optimal to perform the main task - protecting the premises from unauthorized entry.

The design of the doors can be double-leaf or single-leaf. Depending on the number of parts of the front door, the dimensions specified in GOST will change. Single-leaf have a maximum allowable width of 1100 mm. The height of the entrance doors is 2300, the weight is 80 kg.

Benefits of standard sizes

Unlike non-standard ones, they have many advantages that attract people:

  1. Large selection of finished canvases and designs on the world market. You can find models of any color variation, insulated or additionally reinforced, made of wood, plastic, metal.
  2. Due to the standard size, the front doors with a frame are perfect for most openings located in apartments. Installation problems occur in rare cases. The absence of additional work eliminates the waste of free time and money.
  3. Price. The cost of standard door structures is much less than that of canvases made according to exclusive sizes. This is due to the fact that the production of models with standard parameters does not require additional algorithms.
  4. Easily dismantled, replaced with new designs. The metal box is fixed in the opening with several anchor bolts and mounting foam along the contour.

Standard entrance doors are made at any door factory - they are considered the most common. Non-standard models have an interesting appearance, which is more suitable for private houses and unusual interior solutions.

Entrance structures of non-standard sizes

Non-standard dimensions of door panels and openings at the present time are not uncommon. They are filled with new high-rise buildings and cottages. When building a private house, SNiP or GOST are rarely taken into account.

Builders recommend taking into account SNiPs. Absolute accuracy is not required, but it is not recommended to deviate significantly from standard sizes. Otherwise, the norms will be violated, and the wall with the passage will not be stable and reliable.

  1. Width. The range of this parameter starts at 900 mm and ends at 2000 mm. The passage should not interfere with people walking and bringing in bulky items.
  2. Height. The indicator should at the minimum point exceed the dimensions of the interior canvases and boxes. You need to start with 2000 mm. The maximum allowable height is 2400 mm.

The depth may vary. Depends on the material used. An important indicator is the design of the door leaf - universal or narrowly targeted. The first option includes classic models that can be purchased at any door store.

As for the individual or narrow purpose of the doors, they can be:

If you understand in more detail, then in the manufacture of armored door panels, steel with high rates of rigidity and impact resistance is used. Its average thickness is 60 mm. Significantly increases the mass of the canvas. A standard single-leaf door according to GOST should not weigh more than 80 kg. For non-standard designs, this parameter can reach 200 kg. This is not the maximum parameter for armored doors - it may vary depending on the degree of protection.

Fire protection structures must, in the event of a dangerous situation, allow people to leave the premises without hindrance. The average width parameter for fire-fighting models is 1300 mm. For double-leaf structures, the average web width is 2500 mm.

How to measure properly

There are a number of rules that should be considered when doing it yourself. Work can be provided to builders, however, you need to pay for it or take measurements yourself. You can take measurements with a tape measure of 3 meters.

  1. To take measurements, you need to get to the front side of the wall with the front door installed. It is necessary to dismantle the platbands, if we are talking about the old model of the door.
  2. Removing dimensions. It is not enough to measure the height near one slope or the width at the lower threshold and go to the store to purchase a box with a canvas. The width must be measured in three places - at the top, in the middle and at the bottom. The height is measured near the right and left slopes. The thickness of the doorway must be measured in three places, as well as the width.
Important! It is required to carefully consider the condition of the ends. Any chips and cracks must be repaired with perforated corners and putty. After decorative finishing, measurements are taken.

When all measurements are made, you can go to the door store. For an error-free choice, you need to know the measurement systems.

Door measuring systems

There are two systems for measuring door structures - metric and English. It is important to know their differences so as not to get confused when choosing.

  1. The steel sheet used in the manufacture of the entrance door leaf should not be less than 2 mm. With insufficient thickness, the material will not be able to perform its functions.
  2. It is necessary to choose the opening mechanism in the apartments so that when the door is opened outward, it does not interfere with the neighbors.
  3. Consider the weight of the structure. With non-standard dimensions, it is required to additionally strengthen the load-bearing wall and ceiling.
  4. For reliability, it is better to use wooden or metal sheets. Durable material will allow you to achieve maximum indicators of room protection and durability.
  5. Wooden doors must be completed with platbands. With a large width of the walls, doborniki are used.
  6. In cold climatic zones, it is necessary to choose structures with high thermal insulation rates.
  7. It makes no sense to install a double-leaf construction in an apartment or a small private house. They are used in shopping centers, cinemas, catering establishments, hotels.
  8. To install the front door, you do not need to purchase specialized equipment. Work is carried out using a perforator and anchor bolts.

It is important not to forget about design. The front door should be in harmony with the interior and meet the tasks assigned to it.

Metric

This is a measurement system familiar to the population of the CIS countries. It uses kilograms, meters, centimeters and millimeters. There are two standard indicators used for entrance doors made of different materials. The size of the wooden structure: 2040 mm - height, 826 mm - width of the front door. Metal size: 2050 mm - height, 860 mm - width. These are standard dimensions.

English

This is a foreign measurement system that is used in Western countries. Its unit of measure is feet. It is equal to 30.48 cm. In addition to being used in Western countries, branded models can be measured in feet.

If there is a desire to purchase an expensive door structure from foreign manufacturers, you need to understand the firms and know the foreign designations of the quantities.

Important! Designers prohibit increasing the size of doorways without additional strengthening of the load-bearing walls. When carrying out construction work to expand the passage, you need to use temporary supports.

For an error-free acquisition of the front door, you need to take independent measurements, pre-select the material, opening mechanism and design. If you have doubts about your capabilities and skills, you can call people involved in the installation of entrance and interior doors.

One of the most important and significant parameters that must always be taken into account when choosing and subsequently purchasing an input structure is its dimensions. Obviously, it is with the measurement of the opening that the manufacture or selection of a suitable finished option begins. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that it is most profitable to purchase products that have standard sizes of metal entrance doors with a box. This is due to many factors. The main ones are the proven production technology and the use of standard designs, parts and elements.

The main types of steel doors by design features

The dimensions of the products in question are determined based on two factors: the features of their design, as well as whether the standard size of the opening for the entrance door to the apartment is made. According to the first sign, they distinguish:

  • single leaf. The most common design option, which is manufactured and installed in 9 cases out of 10;
  • bivalve. They are used primarily in private country cottages and houses, as well as in public and commercial buildings where a large throughput is required. They are a structure consisting of two canvases, while either one of them opens, or both at once;
  • one and a half. A kind of double-leaf steel doors, when one leaf is wider than the second, which in most cases does not open.

The listed design features affect its dimensions in the first place. The second important factor is the size of the opening. It is determined based on the type of building in which the metal door is installed.

Standard sizes of metal doors with a frame

As noted above, the type of building where it is used is of great importance in determining the dimensions of the product. For example, the size of a standard iron entrance door in a panel house has the following values: the width varies from 74 to 78 cm, and the height ranges from 195 to 200 cm. Obviously, such parameters are rightly considered the smallest of all possible.

This is confirmed by the following data. The width of the entrance structure with a box for brick residential buildings is from 88 to 93 cm, while its height is in the range between 205 and 210 cm. In buildings built before the 80s of the last century, doorways are often even larger. For example, you can often find similar building elements up to 220 and even 260 cm high.

All the above figures, despite significant differences, are quite suitable for the standard size of the front door frame according to GOST, in force at the time of construction. Different regulatory requirements that differ significantly depending on the type of building is a completely logical and justified approach, which was put into practice in Soviet times, after which it was continued by Russian legislators.
The dimensions of the opening for the entrance doors in a private house

The most difficult thing is to determine the standard size of the front door in a private house. This is due to the fact that such buildings are controlled and regulated by the relevant authorities to a much lesser extent. Therefore, each owner independently determines for himself the necessary criteria for choosing the dimensions of the products in question. However, some general recommendations do exist.

The standard dimensions of a metal front door are recommended to be taken in the following range:

  • width - from 91 cm for a single-leaf version to 200 cm for a double-leaf version;
  • height - from 207 to 237 cm.

All figures are given with the box. Naturally, the size of the opening will be somewhat larger, and the canvases, on the contrary, will be smaller. The important correct determination of the parameter in question for the successful and trouble-free operation of the input structure is also confirmed by the fact that almost all serious manufacturing enterprises always offer a free visit of the measurer to perform the necessary work. This approach is quite justified, especially considering the rather high cost of the finished product.

It is obvious that it is better to spend relatively little money on inviting and leaving a measurer, but at the same time getting a high-quality final result, than saving money at the very beginning, acquiring very real serious problems when installing a steel entrance structure. The choice of two possible scenarios for the development of events for a serious company is quite obvious. At the same time, it is important that the buyer understands the importance of accurately determining the required dimensions of the purchased product.

The dimensions of metal doors are the determining factors that must be taken into account when choosing and installing them. The quality and durability of the entrance structure depends on how accurately the standard for the production of the door and the preparation of the opening for its installation, taking into account all the technical features, will be observed.

Characteristics affecting the dimensions of the door:

  • the material from which the door leaf with the frame is made;
  • type of door and its purpose;
  • opening size;
  • manufacturer;
  • weight.

What should be the height and width of the doors

The standard, which the dimensions of the front door must meet, is necessarily confirmed by the standards of GOST and SNiP and determined by the metric system. According to it, the size of the entrance opening for residential houses should be from 700 to 1540 mm wide, 2055-2060 mm high and 75 mm thick.

The optimal width indicator is 900-1000 mm.

According to these data, the size of the door leaf is selected:

  • width from 600 to 900 mm;
  • height 2 m.

Most of the canvases presented on the domestic market have standard dimensions of 800 or 900 mm, excluding the box. According to GOST, the parameters of the box should exceed the parameters of the door leaf by 6-7 cm, which means that the dimensions of the entire door block will be 870 or 970 mm wide and 2070 mm high with a tolerance of 10-15 mm.

Also, when calculating the web in relation to the opening, it is necessary to take into account the technical clearance for installation (10-20 mm) and the characteristics of the threshold height (25-45 mm).

Type of door construction

By type of construction doors differ:

  • with transom;
  • single leaf;
  • one and a half;
  • bivalve.

Single-leaf are divided into standard and narrow. The width of the narrow ones can reach 600-650 mm. Their installation is permissible only in the case of an atypical layout of the building as an entrance group to a technical or storage room.

Other types of doors are non-standard and large-sized openings are mounted. Double-leaf entrance groups can consist of 2 canvases of the same size or have one wide and one narrow canvas (one and a half).

Width (mm) of one and a half is:

  • 1200 (400+800);
  • 1400 (600+800 or 500+900).

As a rule, for one-and-a-half structures, the narrow part of the canvas remains deaf and motionless, while for double-leaf structures, both parts of the canvas can be movable. Their width standard in mm is:

  • 1200 (600+600);
  • 1600 (800+800);
  • 1800 (900+900).

The height in this case can vary between 2000-2300 mm. Non-standard designs also include entrance groups with side and top transoms, which are made to order.

Mass indicators: features that affect

It is also important to pay attention to the correspondence of the dimensions of the canvas with the box. The slightest deviations in linear dimensions can lead to difficulties during operation or to a complete replacement of the input group. So, for example, using non-standard height/width doors or purchasing them separately from the frame, there is a risk that the weight of the metal door deforms the vertical support posts of the frame.

As a result, you may experience:

  • difficulty opening / closing the canvas;
  • distortion of the door leaf;
  • the formation of cracks and drafts.

To prevent this from happening, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • it is necessary to purchase a door with a frame from one manufacturer and in one set;
  • the thickness of the canvas, as well as its height and width, must correspond to the parameters of the box;
  • fixing elements to the door and fasteners of the frame to the opening must be used in a certain amount and selected taking into account the characteristics of the leaf mass.

Mass indicators depend on:

  • steel thickness;
  • number of stiffeners:
  • the presence of a filler;
  • cladding type.

The optimal weight of a metal door is 70-80 kg with a box. Characteristics such as insufficient thickness and weight (less than 50 kg), as a rule, are found in Chinese manufacturers and indicate poor quality.

Doors weighing more than 100 kg are heavy-duty structures, but also non-standard and because of this can cause problems during operation.

For more information on choosing their dimensions, see the video.

Degree of protection

The specific purpose of the entrance group is also a determining factor when choosing the size or arrangement of the opening. This is how standard and technical doors differ: fireproof, armored, soundproof or moisture-proof. The characteristics of special designs significantly enhance the degree of protection of housing.

For example, the thickness is 7 cm, and the armored one reaches 10-12 cm. The dimensions of fire-resistant structures are more impressive and can reach about 2500x2500 mm, which is due to the requirements for their patency during evacuation. Armored ones can also have non-standard dimensions (1200x1900 mm), but more often they are produced with dimensions of 1200x2050 mm.

When choosing the optimal input design, it is very important to consider how much a metal door weighs, its thickness and other overall characteristics. It depends on this whether it will fit the opening and whether it will be able to protect the house from break-ins, cold and drafts.
