How I made a music box. With your own hands: a music box for a little princess (31 photos) Do-it-yourself music box from improvised

People who prefer to make memorabilia and gifts on their own, sooner or later think about how to make a box with their own hands. To do this, you do not need to have any special skills in a particular area. To work, you will need a set of tools and improvised materials: cardboard, fabric, plywood, glass, etc. You can also use old postcards or tin can from biscuits or tea.

Homemade box in the form of a cardboard book

You can make a cardboard box in just a few hours. To do this, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • binding cardboard;
  • piece of cotton fabric measuring 300 mm x 600 mm;
  • thin synthetic winterizer;
  • scrap paper 300 mm x 300 mm;
  • cotton lace 300 mm long and 30 mm wide, metal frame for decoration, etc.;
  • quick-drying and non-marking adhesive;
  • Double-sided tape;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • pencil;
  • iron ruler.

All work is divided into several stages:

  • preparatory;
  • base manufacturing;
  • creating a "cover";
  • decoration.

Preparatory work

At this stage, it is necessary to make all the necessary blanks from cardboard, fabric, padding polyester and paper for interior decoration. From the binding cardboard you need to cut out eight elements:

  • 170 mm x 115 mm - 2 pcs.;
  • 170 mm x 30 mm - 1 pc.;
  • 160 mm x 110 mm - 1 pc.;
  • 160 mm x 40 mm - 2 pcs.;
  • 108 mm x 40 mm - 2 pcs.

From the padding polyester, pre-make blanks with the following dimensions:

  • 400 mm x 40 mm;
  • 170mm x 115mm;
  • 170 mm x 30 mm.

Procedure:

Decor

To decorate the future box, it is advisable to choose any elements you like that can be sewn or glued. IN this case tag, metal frame and lace were used.

Procedure:

From postcards

From old postcards with a similar theme, you can make a "chest" for storing photos. Necessary materials and tools:

  • old postcards;
  • threads (mulina, knitting, iris);
  • needle with a wide eye;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • ruler.

For manufacturing, it is advisable to use the drawings:

Using these drawings, you need to create patterns. To do this, you need to transfer the elements to postcards and cut out the details along the contour.

Action algorithm:

Classic plywood

For beginners, the easiest way is to make a plywood box. Required materials and tools:

Preparatory stage

Before proceeding directly to the manufacture of the box, it is necessary to cut several blanks from plywood with the following dimensions:

  • 23 cm x 14 cm - 1 pc. (bottom of the box);
  • 14 x 7 cm - 2 pcs. (end sidewalls);
  • 25 cm x 7 cm - 2 pcs. (sidewalls);
  • 25 cm x 16 cm - 1 pc. (lid);
  • 14 cm x 4 cm - 2 pcs. (external partitions);
  • 14 cm x 9 cm - 1 pc. (outer cover #1);
  • 14 x 7.5 cm - 1 pc. (outer cover #2).

You also need to make in advance the details for collecting a small box, which will be located inside the box:

  • 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm - 4 pieces;
  • 4.5 cm x 6 cm - 2 pieces;
  • 6 cm x 6 cm - 1 pc.

When cutting plywood with a jigsaw, the edges are uneven. Therefore, they must be sanded, as well as the surface of the walls that will be inside the box.

Assembling the outer frame

At this stage, you need to assemble the base. Procedure:

Making a small box and a large lid

Procedure:

  1. Make a small box according to the same principle as a large one.

Firing and staining

Action algorithm:

  1. Lightly burn the workpiece to form beautiful burn marks.

To Work with blowtorch need to be very careful. Plywood should only be burned lightly to avoid unsightly burnt chips.

Glass wedding

A glass ring box can be a good wedding gift. For work you will need the following tools and materials:

  • window glass 3 mm thick or stained glass;
  • glass cutter;
  • soldering iron;
  • Sander;
  • blue permanent marker
  • ruler;
  • copper foil with black backing;
  • flux;
  • alcohol;
  • natural sponge;
  • solder;
  • antioxidant.

The wedding box is made in the form of an open icosahedron, which consists of regular triangles with sides equal to 6.5 cm and a height of 5.6 cm. To cut the glass correctly, you will need a pattern.

Procedure:

1. We put the pattern on the glass, outline the contours with a marker.

2. Cut out the glass triangle along the contour using a glass cutter and a ruler. You need to press it hard enough to make the edges smoother.

3. Flip the glass reverse side, put it on the ruler and click to break off the resulting part.

4. Using the pattern cutouts all the rest glass elements caskets. There should be 15 triangles in total.

5. Inspect the edges of the parts for chips and irregularities.

6. To make the parts perfectly even, the edges should be sanded using a special grinder. In this case, the eyes must be covered with goggles so that small fragments do not fall into them.

7. The treated pieces of glass must be rinsed with water and dried naturally for paper towel.

8. Before proceeding to decorating elements with copper foil, you need to wipe each piece of glass with alcohol.

9. To decorate the details of the box with foil neatly, the glass must be placed in the middle of the ribbon.

10. Wrap the edges of the triangle with foil, pressing it firmly against the surface and smoothing it with any flat object.

11. Do this operation with all other details.

12. Now you need to process the edges with flux. To do this, you can use a cotton swab or brush.

13. Using a soldering iron, apply solder to the edges of the parts. At the same time, it is important to ensure that the glass does not crack from high temperature. In the process of work, the soldering iron must be periodically wiped on a sponge to remove burnt tin and soot from it.

14. Now it's time to start assembling the box. Details are exposed on a corner.

15. To connect them together, you need to apply solder with a soldering iron at two points.

16. Gradually collect the entire box.

17. The internal seams also need to be soldered so that they are even.

18. Make the outer seams more voluminous by applying several layers of solder to them.

19. Sand the seams with metal wool until smooth.

20. Treat with an antioxidant to prevent oxidation and add shine.

With musical mechanism

The music box can become great gift for a birthday. And for this it is not necessary to purchase it in a store, it is easier to make it yourself.

To work, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • tin can (can be from under cookies or tea);
  • putty for metal;
  • acrylic primer;
  • PVA glue;
  • Matt lacquer;
  • decoupage card with notes (or napkin);
  • pressed cardboard 3 mm thick;
  • velvet;
  • jigsaw with a jewelry file;
  • scissors;
  • brushes;
  • glue gun;
  • glue stick;
  • ruler;

pencil.

You will also need a ready-made musical mechanism. It can be taken from an old toy or bought at a specialized store.

All work will be divided into the following stages:

  1. Formation of the outer frame.
  2. Interior decoration.

Tin box base

Action algorithm:

1. Cover the surface of the can with automotive putty. After drying, sand and coat with a primer in 1-2 layers.

2. Paste over all parts of the box with a decoupage napkin. It is necessary to cut a circle with the same diameter as that of the lid, while taking into account the height and making a margin of 1–2 cm. Apply glue to the tin surface with a brush, attach a napkin, smooth it so that there are no wrinkles. By the same principle, arrange the lower part of the box.

3. Make a hole for the musical mechanism where the key will be inserted.

4. After the surface has dried, you need to cover it with a matte varnish in two layers. The frame of the box is ready.

Interior decoration

Procedure:

1. Cut out the bottom from cardboard. To fit it, you need to make a circle of velvet with the same diameter, but leave a small allowance. Glue the fabric to the cardboard base with a glue stick.

2. You will also need a box for the musical mechanism and sidewall. They are made on the same principle as the bottom.

3. Fix the velvet details inside the box with glue gun. Place a musical mechanism under the box.

4. If desired, additional compartments can be made from cardboard and velvet, for example, in the form of a box with an opening lid or a pouch with strings. And trim the outer sides with velvet tape.

5. On the inner surface of the lid, you can stick a photo or any picture you like with a cardboard base, which must be coated with acrylic varnish. To hide the edges, attach a velvet ribbon and a satin cord along the perimeter of the circle, and hide the junction under the bow.

Making a box with your own hands from improvised materials is not so difficult as it seems at first glance. And a suitable decor will help to give it a finished look: beads, old unnecessary jewelry, stones for jewelry, buttons, shells, ribbons, labels, etc.

Music boxes are ordered from time to time. This is a good gift for memorable date. After all, each couple has its own melody? This is the box I want to talk about.

In general, there is a desire to create my own mechanism for this business, but for now I use the famous kikkerland 15. It has 15 voices and the melody itself is located on perforated tape. I almost always have a couple gears in reserve. Fans have created an entire site with a collection of melodies.

The case is made of beech according to the customer's size, usually I make quite pocket versions, here the size of the box is 100x100x70. The blanks are sawn down, the photo shows how the box was assembled.

Tape clamps are used to tighten the corners.

The cover cut off with a margin is glued on top.

With a grinder I give the lid the shape of a chest. And only after that the box is cut into halves and the mechanism is inserted inside.

We try on the tape, it should go into the box "blindly", without opening the lid.

The hostess asked to put an engraving on the cover. No problem. It remains to clean the dust from engraving and cover everything with varnish.

I am a lazy craftsman and I also make ribbons for the box with a laser. Although the kit comes with a special hole punch for this.

We try on the tape and listen to the melody. Everything worked out!

The ribbon is completely placed in the box. It fits into small caskets with an accordion.

The hostess was satisfied, for some reason this is very important to me. :)

If you have a production or service that you want to tell our readers about, write to Aslan ( [email protected] ) and we will make the best report, which will be seen not only by readers of the community, but also by the site How it's done

So it's time to talk about what was inside my box, cut out of plywood with a jigsaw. At the heart of everything was the fundamental circuit diagram on the controller powered by 2 Krona batteries (9+9 V). I recorded the music on a 16-32 MB SD card. Moreover, the box played a new melody every time it was opened. Let's start in order!

Element base of the contents of the box

The core of the circuit is the Atmega16 microcontroller, 40-pin, which just controls the playback of melodies. It has a DIP case so that it can be easily inserted and removed from the socket located on the board. The picture of Atmega16 is as follows:

Another equally important microcircuit is the LM4860M 1 W, 16-pin audio amplifier, from the outputs of which amplified signal goes to 8 ohm speaker. I took the execution of this microcircuit in the SO16 package.

You will also need 2 microcircuits - a voltage converter: 7805 in the TO-220 package, the output of which is a constant voltage of +5 V, and IRU1117-33 in the SOT-223 package, with a constant output voltage of +3.3 V, from which the SD- map. The image of these chips is below:

To run the controller, you need a 16 MHz crystal oscillator. A 16-32 MB SD card, now it is difficult to get such a small flash card, but earlier they came with some camera models in the kit. All resistors and capacitors are SMD for surface mounting.

Schematic diagram of a music box

The electrical circuit of the box looks like this:

As you can see, out of 40 legs of the microcontroller, only 18 are used. Pins 5 to 8 - exchange with the SD card, 9th - to reset the controller, 10 - power supply + 5V, 11.31 - ground, 33-40 - through a divider to an audio amplifier. The Atmega16 microcontroller needs to be flashed, but not on the board itself, but on a special device connected to the computer via RS-232. The exchange with the computer goes through the SPI interface of the controller (pins 5-8). The firmware is downloaded using computer program ponyprog. The firmware itself (Music_box_16.hex) and a screenshot of the installed fuses in PonyProg (PonyProg_Mega16_Fuses.bmp) are in the attached archive. Also in it you will find technical descriptions(datasheets) on the chips used and the microcontroller.

PCB layout

I did the layout of the tracks on the printed circuit board in the Sprint Layout4 program. Accordingly, the shkatulka.lay file is in the archive. A board with dimensions of 130x70 mm made of one-sided foil-coated getinaks. All SMD resistors and capacitors, the LM4860M chip, IRU1117-33 are placed on the side of the tracks, and the microcontroller, SD card slot, electrolytic capacitors, the 7805 chip are placed on the other side. Drawing printed circuit board presented below:

To etch the board, I used the old "iron method" and ferric chloride. Then I soldered all the elements, the speaker, the power button and the power supply from two 9 V batteries remained outside the board. Unfortunately, at that time I didn’t have a camera at hand, and I didn’t have such a goal (to capture my work), so I don’t have the opportunity to show the montage I received, and I won’t disassemble the non-separable box. Then I left myself the opportunity only to change the batteries, and rewrite the USB flash drive.

Recording melodies for the box

The SD card needs to be formatted in FAT16. The melodies that you want to be played by the box should be prepared. The total number of melodies is up to 100. Playing time is 1 minute. The audio format is .wav PCM 16 kHz 8 bit mono. Name the files - “ring_00.wav”, “ring_01.wav”, etc.

I came across some interesting things from AliExpress on the lifehacker website. Namely, the mechanism for the music box. And without thinking twice, I ordered this gadget for myself :)

I was very interested in this position, since since childhood I liked to watch in films how the heroes play a melody from caskets. I like the tone of such melodies, the rhythm and stuff like that.
The idea itself is extremely simple. You can make any box with your own hands and insert a mechanism there, you get an original little thing. But since my hands are growing out of the wrong place, I just love to listen to this melody without external embellishments. Plays here by the way Castle in the Sky Theme Song. I don’t know where and who the author is, but I like it :)

The parcel went for about a month. Tracking stopped after crossing the border. Apparently the Chinese saved on a normal track code. Anyway.

Packed in a regular bag and thin foam. No bubbles :(

They also promised 4 screws, and there were 2 current in the package, but these are minor quibbles.
Dimensions 5 cm by 4.5 by 2 Everything is connected on one frame.

Sounds are produced by plates of different lengths that are caught by a small drum with protrusions in certain places. The Chinese have such drums for different songs and it would be interesting to rearrange them depending on the mood.

Everything is set in motion by a spring that is turned on with a special key. There is nothing more than nanotechnological here :) What would the melody play more evenly, there is a braking roller.

If you hold the mechanism in your hand, the sound is very quiet, well, everything is perfectly audible on the table.

The seller promises 500 repetitions of playback, in the future it will be seen how this mechanism behaves.

In the music box, almost at the very bottom, moments of bygone days are quietly sleeping. The once popular accessory is now gathering dust in museums or on mezzanines filled with all sorts of rubbish. So it could have been further, if the designers had not decided to revive the music box, making it a real luxury item. Let's talk about the brightest specimens in our review.

Starting from November, all the screens of the country are filled with a cheerful Santa Claus with a bottle of Coca-Cola in his hands. From year to year, advertising practically does not change, therefore main character becomes almost native, and in the supermarket the hand itself reaches for a fizzy drink. Now he has migrated to the lid of the music box. Such Santa Claus, of course, will not bring Coca-Cola, but it will please you with music.

The main thing is a roof over your head. As it turned out, this truth is relevant not only for people, but also for music boxes.

This music box is made to order. The designer not only chooses the melody that the client likes, but also creates figurines-portraits of the birthday or family members of the customer.

Antique stylized music box in the form of a medallion. Designers say that one such gift can win the heart of a girl.

If the capricious charmer remained indifferent to the singing heart, you can try to give her a music box in the form of a carousel. But first you should ask: does the girl love music or is the best gift for her in the jewelry department.

What progress has been made! Manufacturers came up with a music box for the Ipad. To put it into action, you need to download a special application on your iPad, and you can enjoy the melodies.

A music box created especially for the anniversary of the Beatles. However, the cover of the product speaks very eloquently about this. As for the repertoire of the box, it consists exclusively of the songs of the legendary band.

Kids will love this box for sure. Designers periodically change the main characters of the box. One thing remains unchanged - the nature of the product.

Music box for those who write music. Create melodies, fix them on a special card and enjoy the result.

Designers offer to create such a box with songs on their own: paint it in your favorite color, add all kinds of figures, inscriptions and give it to a dear person. After all the best gifts, as you know, are made by hand. If you can’t make a music box on your own, you can give it to a birthday person. I'm sure anyone will love this gift.
