Installation of pvc wall panels on a kitchen apron
Kitchen renovation involves the subsequent installation of kitchen furniture and all kinds of appliances. A very common type of such furniture is a kitchen set.
The space between the wall cabinets and the working area (countertop), the so-called kitchen apron panel, is traditionally decorated with ceramic tiles or skinali, which have the same color as the countertop.
However, do not neglect other materials, especially when the repair budget is limited.
Consider a decorative building material that is not inferior in beauty and some other characteristics to ceramics, but much cheaper than it - a PVC kitchen apron.

Installation of PVC panels in the kitchen
Before proceeding with the direct installation of a PVC apron, you need to understand what this material is.
The plastic panel is made of polyvinyl chloride, hence the abbreviation PVC. Building materials are classified according to several characteristics.
Wall panel dimensions
- Rack panels.
Their appearance resembles a "lining" made of wood. They can have the following dimensions - length 900–3000, width 135–300, thickness 8–12. Boards, by analogy with the same “lining”, have a tenon-groove connection or a groove on both sides and, in addition, a mounting, connecting bar, which facilitates the installation process to a minimum.
- Tiled panels.
This type of finishing building material has the same connection method as slatted panels, but in appearance it even more resembles ceramic tiles. If you choose the appropriate color, then it will be possible to distinguish it from ceramics only from a very close distance and by touch.
Most often it has dimensions - 300x300 or 980x980. This size allows you to combine tiles of different color shades, creating the desired patterns on the wall.
- Sheet panels.
Sheet panels for the kitchen have dimensions - length up to 2440, width up to 1220, thickness up to 6. Wall panels are fastened with adhesives directly to the wall or with fasteners to the crate. The joints between the sheets are closed with special connecting profiles or a color-matched sealant.
Color
Kitchen wall panels can have a variety of colors, and if with white, I think everything is clear, then the pattern is given to the panels in various ways.
- Thermal film.
The top layer of the finished panel is covered with a solvent composition and after some time a film is applied, pressing it with a roller heated to a certain temperature, thereby ensuring the connection. Building material painted in this way becomes more durable and resistant to mechanical damage.
- Laminate.
A thicker PVC film is glued onto the finished surface of the panel, which already has its own pattern. Building material of this type has a poor choice of color palette in relation to other types, but at the same time it is the most durable, withstands mechanical loads quite resistant and is less prone to damage.
- Direct pattern printing.
A drawing is applied to a panel of a certain color. Do this with the help of a structural roller. Then the surface is varnished and dried. A board painted in this way does not tolerate even minimal mechanical impact on its surface. Even the condensation that forms on the board in a humid environment can leave its marks in the form of a white coating.
All types of coatings can be both glossy and matte. Armed with the necessary knowledge about the base material, let's move on to the question of how to fix wall panels in the kitchen.
Step 1, preparing the surface to be repaired
The wall on which you plan to install the PVC kitchen backsplash must be dry, even and preferably without damage. If any of these criteria is not as such, it is necessary to prepare a wall.
Plaster potholes and cracks with a cement-sand mixture (CPS) or cover with alabaster. Also close the gaps in the corners of the joints of reinforced concrete slabs with DSP, alabaster or mounting foam.
After the DSP has dried, treat the wall with a deep penetration primer to obtain the best adhesion of the adhesive.
On the wall, the unevenness of which exceeds 15–20, we recommend mounting the crate and installing the panels for the kitchen apron already on it. You can also fasten wall panels directly to the wall using dowels - nails.
Determine the boundaries where the wall panels for the kitchen will be. This zone should be 50–100 below the countertop and 50–100 above the bottom of the smallest wall cabinet by the same distance.
Step 2, install a plastic kitchen apron
Start installing PVC panels from the corner of the kitchen. Moreover, unfold the first panel with a comb to the junction of the walls. First, install a corner connecting profile on it, if the kitchen apron is angular or final, when the apron to the kitchen will be located on one wall.
For direct gluing, use glue, and for mounting PVC panels on the frame, use clamps, self-tapping screws, nails or staples of a furniture stapler.
Apply glue to the plane of the base material and after waiting for the time recommended by the manufacturer, attach it to the wall. When using a frame, fasten PVC wall panels to the battens using the fasteners described above.
Insert the second panel with the side of the spike into the groove of the previous one and fix it with adhesive to the wall or fasteners to the frame rails, and so on with each subsequent board.
When you get close to a corner wall joint or the planned boundary of the kitchen unit, you will have to cut the board to get the required width. This can be done with a construction or clerical knife, or rather with an angle grinder, the so-called grinder.
Close the cut edge of the kitchen apron with a finishing profile, in case of direct gluing, or with a decorative corner, when using a frame.
Installation of PVC wall panels is completed.
After installing the headset, decorate the corner of the junction of the work surface with the kitchen apron with a corner strip with an insert in the color of the countertop.
Kitchen aprons made of plastic can last up to 10 years, provided they are treated with care.
