A variety of paints for concrete for outdoor use and their distinctive features

Concrete structures are durable and have a long service life, but they also need protection. for outdoor work will not only strengthen the structure of the cement screed and protect it from climatic and mechanical influences, but also give the facade, foundation, floor or any other load-bearing element an attractive appearance.

A properly selected decorative coating can protect the building from water, fire and various damages, the main thing is that the paint and varnish material should correspond to the scope of application and have the necessary properties.

Requirements for coloring compositions

Modern paints for exterior and interior work on hardened concrete must have a number of characteristics, such as:

  • water resistance;
  • resistance to climate and weather changes;
  • resistance to ultraviolet radiation;
  • good hiding power;
  • high drying speed;
  • ecological purity.

Also, professionals advise paying attention to the temperature range at which the protective properties of decorative products are best manifested, so you need to select a coating taking into account the climatic characteristics of your region. Keep in mind that not only the beauty of the coating depends on the thickness of the glossy layer, but also its protective properties.

In most cases, concrete structures are reinforced for greater strength with metal mesh or rods, so it is better to choose paints with an anti-corrosion effect. The antibacterial antifungal components that make up the paint will not be superfluous. They will protect the surface from the appearance of harmful organisms.

Paint types

The paintwork consists of various components, thanks to which it acquires color, characteristic properties and a certain consistency. Depending on the main ingredient that serves as a connecting element, paints are divided into classes:

  • polyurethanes;
  • polyacrylates;
  • drying oils;
  • notify, etc.

In the recent past, vinyl products were especially popular, and now acrylic paint holds the lead. Currently, acrylic products based on latex are mainly used in the work.

Such compositions perfectly fill cracks on the treated surface, tolerate temperature extremes well and do not lose their protective abilities even in aggressive environments.

Paints for concrete for outdoor use are divided into several main types:

  • acrylic;
  • water-epoxy;
  • polymeric;
  • vinyl;
  • acrylic-silicone;
  • calcareous.

Acrylic bases

Acrylic paint for outdoor use on concrete is made from polyacrylate bases and their copolymers and has a matte surface. This type of decorative coating protects the structure from bacteria and fungal infections. It washes well, does not emit unpleasant chemical odors and dries very quickly. Steam passes through the structure of the paint, and the painted walls “breathe”. The average service life of acrylic coatings is about 10 years.

Advantages of the compositions and scope

The undoubted advantage of this paint is its strength and elasticity. You can also be sure of the environmental friendliness of the product, which does not contain toxic components. The acrylic surface remains bright and does not discolor throughout its lifetime.

Due to their versatility, these paints are used for both exterior and interior work. High wear resistance, water resistance and excellent durability make acrylic-based coatings so popular among most consumers.

Recently, a rubber acrylic paint for application on concrete, used for outdoor use, has appeared on the construction market, which is one of the options made on the basis of latex acrylates. The novelty contains special additives, due to which a rubber film is formed on the treated surface, protecting the surface from moisture, mechanical damage and abrasion.

Rubber High-Tech Exterior Cured Concrete Paint is successfully applied to pavement, parking areas and other areas subject to high traffic and traffic. Decent quality of the material allows you to keep the color for a long time even with intensive use.

Water-based epoxy products

Such a mixture is a combination of primer and paint. The tool is completely safe, so it can be applied both inside and outside residential premises. Enamel is not afraid of moisture and is not subject to wear.

Before application, mixing of the two components is required, which, when interacting, form a high-quality decorative coating.

First, the contents of can "A" are thoroughly mixed and the composition from can "B" is added to it. After 15 - 20 minutes after connecting the funds from the two containers, painting work can begin. Water-epoxy material is applied in two layers with a break of 18 hours.

Polymer and vinyl compounds

Polymer-based products are not afraid of low temperatures and they can cover surfaces even in severe frosts. Such a tool is not subject to shock and does not deteriorate when exposed to chemicals. Work can be carried out in any convenient way: using paint brushes, a roller or a sprayer.

Vinyl materials have excellent hiding power, and they are also distinguished by uniformity of colors. You can also note the resistant protection against abrasion and a beautiful matte surface gloss. In most cases, the vinyl composition is used as exterior paint, but can also be applied to interior walls.

Before proceeding to staining, the product is thoroughly mixed and applied to a pre-primed surface. As a primer, you can use the same paint, diluted with water. A roller, sprayer or brush is used as a working tool.

Acrylic-silicone and lime products

Two coats of paint are applied to the cleaned base with a break of three hours. Such products have the advantages of acrylic and silicone at the same time, they adhere well to any surface and dry quickly enough. Due to silicone resins, the elasticity and strength of the coating are significantly increased, which repels dust and dirt well. The disadvantage is the meager color range of funds.

Lime bases are able to create a durable layer that is not subject to contamination. Before painting, as in most cases, it is necessary to apply a primer. Immediately before painting, the walls are moistened. In order for facade lime paint, which is applied on concrete and used for outdoor work, not to lose its properties, painting is not carried out in the heat.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each of the considered means has its pros and cons. To make the right choice of paint and varnish material, it is necessary to study its detailed characteristics.

water base

Water-based paint is characterized by low consumption, a large range of colors and ease of use. Its price is affordable for everyone, and this is an important factor. Among the shortcomings, weak resistance to water and mechanical damage, as well as the inability to withstand chemical reagents, can be noted. Also, water-based facade paint for exterior decorative work on poured concrete does not tolerate a sharp change in temperature.

Acrylic

Acrylic-based products are resistant to intense abrasion, they are elastic and dry quickly. Rubber resistant paint for concrete exteriors helps with slip, so it is often applied to screed in shopping malls and other public places.

Like water-based paint, paint containing acrylic particles is economical in application, but, unfortunately, its cost is high, so many people refuse such a purchase for obvious reasons.

Oil base

Such decorative products have excellent protective properties, they are not afraid of ultraviolet exposure and water. The disadvantages include poor vapor permeability, a pungent odor and a long drying time.
