Bimetal heating radiators which are better. Installation of bimetallic heating radiators: materials, tools, technology. Technical and operational characteristics

Bimetallic radiators are the same batteries from the times of the USSR, only they have a different look, materials and characteristics. Here the sections are more tightly pressed against each other, they have a flat surface. There is no cast iron here, the main material is steel. They conduct heat well, perfectly maintain the temperature in the room and are highly energy efficient. But even among them there are lower-quality designs, so we analyzed 30 models and included in this rating the best bimetallic radiators for heating apartments and private houses from popular companies. The TOP is based on customer reviews and is designed to facilitate the selection of such products.

There are quite a few companies with a good reputation on the heating equipment market, but not all of them can offer decent quality at an affordable price. We analyzed the products of more than 20 companies and selected the best among them in terms of quality, design, and energy efficiency. As a result, the rating included products of the following 7 brands:

Rating of the best bimetallic radiators

When selecting nominees, we studied the characteristics of products and customer reviews. The winners were included in the rating according to the following parameters:

  • Dimensions - height, width, thickness;
  • The quality of materials and assembly;
  • Design;
  • Available number of sections;
  • Installation method;
  • The volume of water required for the normal operation of the heating system;
  • Maximum allowable operating temperature;
  • Resistance to pressure drops and its permissible upper limits;
  • Orientation to the heating system - modern or old-style;
  • Corrosion protection;
  • Product weight;
  • Ease of installation.

One of the most important criteria for selecting the best bimetallic heating radiators was the ratio of price and quality, as well as the reputation of manufacturers. We analyzed their availability on the market and the duration of the factory warranty.

Which radiators are better - aluminum, cast iron or bimetallic

Of course, the most durable are cast-iron radiators, which last more than 30 years and even longer due to their resistance to pressure drops and the negative effects of low-quality coolant. They look like ordinary batteries. Aluminum and bimetal models have a flat base and consist of several sections, the number of which, depending on the product, can be changed.

View Advantages Flaws
Cast iron Heat nearby objectsRelease heat more slowly
Suitable for all types of heating systemsHeavier
Calmly tolerate the impact of a coolant of any quality
Aluminum Affordable priceLess Choice
Easy to installWorse hold paint
Great pressure resourceCorrosion instability
Bimetallic Not afraid of pressure surgesNeeds a water drain for the summer
Corrosion resistantNot the thickest walls
light weightThey serve less than cast iron

Cast iron batteries have almost outlived their usefulness in the form in which they were installed during the Soviet era. They are relevant mainly in rooms for the design of which the "retro" style is used. With modern repairs, bimetallic or aluminum types are most often chosen, although the former are cheaper and more affordable.

The best bimetal radiators with side connection

This connection method is most common when it comes to old apartment buildings. In them, the pipe interchange is most often done vertically between floors, combining into risers. In this case, the coolant is supplied to the upper branch pipe, and the outlet to the lower one. We analyzed 10 different models and selected the 5 most worthy options based on the highest energy efficiency, best quality and affordability.

Expert opinion

The best bimetallic radiator for an apartment and a house makes this model a good heat transfer, which allows you to comfortably stay in the house even in the coldest season. Such an indicator became possible as a result of the large surface of the product and due to the use of aluminum.

The design is highly durable, due to which it can be mounted both with autonomous heating systems and with centralized ones. But still, there is a strict limitation of the working pressure - up to 35 atm. The manufacturer made it sectional, and this facilitates the installation process, since you can reduce or increase the number of sections at your discretion.

Advantages:

  • Good build quality;
  • Simple design that easily fits into any interiors;
  • Does not corrode;
  • Neat size and shape;
  • Creates a directed air-heat flow.

Flaws:

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners on the radiator.
  • Need automatic air valves.

This bimetal heating radiator was selected from the top 10 contenders who could not match it in terms of economy and efficiency of use. Being made of steel and aluminum, it gives off a lot of heat and does not allow freezing even in cool rooms. True, for rooms from 20 sq. m. you need at least 5 sections, although there are no problems with this, since you can always order the required number of them, but at the same time it cannot exceed 20 pcs. According to reviews, the design heats up quickly due to the small volume of water (0.2 l per 1 section). Hang it on the wall and it fits easily under the window.

Advantages:

  • High quality workmanship;
  • The maximum operating overpressure is 40 atmospheres;
  • Large margin of safety;
  • Good resistance to hydraulic and any other loads;
  • Beautiful painting, without yellowness;
  • High degree of tightness.

Flaws:

  • Sometimes they crackle a little.

In reviews of the Sira RS Bimetal 500 models, they indicate accurate dimensions, due to which it can be installed even in small rooms with low window sills.

Rifar Base 500×14 is a budget bimetal radiator designed for wall mounting. Because of this, it remains almost invisible to guests. The manufacturer offers 3 versions in different sizes, which allows you to choose the most suitable design, taking into account the quadrature of the room. At the same time, here the standard structure, which includes 14 sections, is not offered by the company to supplement or remove them.

The product weighs almost 27 kg, which can create some difficulties during installation and require assistance from outside. Despite the thin fins, the design has an excellent margin of safety and retains heat well. The reviews include a neutral attitude towards the bright white color of the frame, which quickly becomes dirty. At the same time, it is impossible to clean the surface with anything.

Advantages:

  • Good heat dissipation;
  • Beautiful design;
  • Fast heating;
  • Withstands pressure surges;
  • Resistant to aggressive coolants.

Flaws:

  • Factory, standard.

The reviews speak positively about the quality of the Rifar Base 500 × 14 joints, so there can be no talk of breakthroughs and floods, and time has practically no effect on the strength of products.

This bimetal radiator is the best representative of classic products. It has an optimal height of 415 mm and can be easily placed even in small spaces. Due to its average thickness, heat enters the room faster and is maintained at the proper level. Its use is safe, but you should not exceed the pressure of 36 bar. The pipes are made of steel, which is famous for its excellent heat-conducting properties, but at the same time, in order to avoid corrosion, it is better not to leave water inside during the off-season.

Advantages:

  • Quick connection, lateral;
  • Wide range of options for completing sections;
  • Manufacturer's warranty;
  • Withstands the impact of even not very high-quality water;
  • High strength;
  • Good coverage.

Flaws:

  • Better to use with domestic heating systems.

Model Rommer Profi Bm 350 easily fits into any interior and does not distract attention from it due to the standard design and small size.

The peculiarity of this model lies in the possibility of its use in heating systems with both low and high quality coolant. The radiator performs well even where it has high pressure, up to 40 bar. This is somewhat more than some analogues from the rating.

It should also be noted the decent quality of painting, which has been preserved for many years. Unfortunately, it is impossible to choose the required number of sections here, they are offered 1, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12. The walls of the product are quite strong and withstand high pressure, and the steel from which the pipes are made does not deform.

Advantages:

  • Two-stage painting technology;
  • A small volume of water in the section - 0.2 l;
  • Large serviced area;
  • Light weight at 12 kg;
  • Warms up well.

Flaws:

  • One height in 55.7 cm.

The best bimetal radiators with bottom connection

This method of connecting to the heating system is quite rare. Basically, it is used in private houses in which radiators are installed one after the other. In this case, the coolant moves along the chain, but is not always distributed evenly. Because of this, some pipes can be warmer, others colder. For this, a circulation pump is used here, which creates a coolant current inside. We have studied the available options and selected the best bimetal radiators.

Rifar Monolith Ventil

This bimetal radiator was included in the rating due to the optimal price-quality ratio. It is very "hardy" in relation to heat carriers, its sections can withstand water impacts up to 150 bar. Reviews show that leaks are not detected due to well-designed joints. The heat dissipation here is almost perfect, so the temperature in the apartment or house is maintained at a good level even with prolonged use. But to count on the fact that one such design will heat an area of more than 30 square meters. m. is no longer necessary.

The Rifar Monolit Ventil radiator has a beautiful white color and a high-quality coating that can withstand moisture and other negative factors. This option is also advantageous because it is suitable for both new and old heating systems. For efficient space heating, it needs 0.21 liters per section, which indicates a high efficiency.

Advantages:

  • Factory warranty for 25 years;
  • Pleasant design;
  • Withstands temperatures up to 135 °C;
  • Smooth surface;
  • The optimal height is 57.7 cm;
  • Cools down slowly;
  • Weight in 12 kg.

Flaws:

  • There is no way to complete the sections at your discretion.

The delivery set contains everything you need to connect the radiator - flow distributors, a Mayevsky tap, plugs and valves.

This is another design that has an original design due to the vertical arrangement of sections. The standard set includes 18 of them, which provides high heat capacity and allows you to quickly raise the air temperature even in large rooms. Such characteristics can be explained by the good, according to reviews, power of the bimetallic radiator of 2142 W and the small volume of the required coolant of 3.78 liters of water for the entire structure. It is connected at the bottom and the elements of connection with the heating system from the side are almost imperceptible.

Advantages:

  • Withstands temperatures up to 110 °C;
  • The walls warm up quickly;
  • Beautiful design;
  • A simple way of eyeliner;
  • Warms up well.

Flaws:

  • Requires a lot of wall space due to the height of 1440 mm;
  • Not low price.

First of all, this bimetallic radiator differs from other models in the rating by its appearance. It has rather wide sections, due to which it was possible to reduce the cost of the structure and not lose it in heat transfer. It hangs on the wall and, with an average height of 55.2 cm, fits easily into any space, including under windows. One section holds 0.22 liters of water, and its quality is not particularly important here. Due to the fact that there is less of it in the heating system and it heats up almost instantly, the room becomes warmer much faster than at high rates.

Advantages:

  • Maximum operating temperature - 110 ° C;
  • High quality parts;
  • Good build;
  • High-quality surface painting;
  • Low sensitivity to a sharp change in pressure in the system.

Flaws:

  • Sold in at least 3 units.

Which bimetallic radiators are better to buy

Models with resistance to the chemical composition of the coolant in the range of 6.5-9 pH are considered a good choice. The weight of one section is usually 1.5-2 kg. The average heat transfer rate is 100-185 watts. For effective operation, the design must withstand a pressure of at least 25 atmospheres. In a quality product, both collectors and vertical tubes are made of steel. With the standard placement of window sills, you can choose a radiator with a height of about 0.5 m, but in the case of a lower location, you will need models up to 0.35 cm.

Here is which bimetallic radiator is better to buy, depending on the purpose:

  • For use in old-style systems, Global Style 500 will be relevant.
  • In small rooms, you can get by with the Sira RS Bimetal 500 heater.
  • In houses where low-quality coolant is supplied to the pipes, you can use the Rifar Base 500 x
  • If there are often pressure surges in heating systems, then you should pay special attention to Rommer Profi Bm 350.
  • If you need a radiator with very fast heating, then the Lammin Eco BM-500-80 has proven itself well here.
  • For heating areas of about 20 sq. m. the Rifar Monolit Ventil 500 x5 model will be useful.
  • With autonomous heating, you should consider choosing the Royal Thermo PianoForte Tower x 18.
  • In small rooms, you can put the Radena VC 500.

By choosing the best bimetal radiator, very soon you will notice how the house will become warmer. The rating includes only those models that have received a lot of positive feedback from customers and have been successfully tested in practice. There are both budget options and premium models, we hope everyone will find a suitable offer for themselves!

Bimetallic batteries today occupy one of the leading places in popularity. They are inferior in this position, probably, only to the usual cast-iron radiators, and even then, rather, only due to the extreme prevalence of the latter, the commitment of many consumers to established traditions, a kind of “inertia of thinking”.

Bimetallic radiators are increasingly being chosen for installation in the heating circuit of both a private house and a city apartment, since, unlike aluminum and steel, they have a pronounced resistance to high pressure loads and temperatures. However, when choosing these heating devices, it is very important not to run into low-quality fakes or not to purchase products from a manufacturer that has not yet passed the test of time. Therefore, let's consider the question formulated in this way: "bimetallic rating of manufacturers" - since this selection criterion plays a far from secondary role.

It is very difficult to give an accurate assessment of all bimetallic radiators on sale. Therefore, only a few companies will be considered in the publication, but they have already won unquestioned authority with the quality of their products.

General information about bimetallic radiators

Before proceeding to the consideration of products from various manufacturers, a few minutes of attention should be paid to the design of these heaters. It is worth figuring out, at least in order not to purchase aluminum batteries at the cost of bimetallic ones, since outwardly they are very similar, but the performance is already at a completely different level, and the difference in price is considerable.

Their outer heat exchange casing has almost the same shape and is made of the same material - aluminum. But that's where the main similarity ends.

Bimetallic models of batteries can be divided into two parts - internal, made of steel, and external, heat exchange, made of aluminum - hence the name. Steel vertical channels of each of the sections consist of pipes, which are connected by welding in the lower and upper parts with horizontal sections of a larger diameter, which, when assembling the battery, form collectors. This entire tubular steel structure is intended for the circulation of the coolant.

Sections can be assembled into a single battery by means of a threaded coupling connection, factory welding is less commonly used. Depending on the type of this connection, the battery can be sectional, collapsible, or it can be a one-piece block design. A solid block may include several (for example, 3÷4) sections, but if necessary, it is quite possible to add the required number of sections to it or to assemble a battery from several such blocks.

Steel channels are much more resistant to aggressive components of the coolant of the central heating system than all-aluminum batteries. Therefore, the permissible acid-base index (pH) of the coolant can lie in an extended range, from 5 to 11 units - such indicators are not even “dreamed of” by aluminum batteries.

Internal steel tubes are a kind of "skeleton" of a bimetallic radiator, which makes the whole structure more rigid and durable. Steel, especially if it has a protective coating, or if high-quality stainless steel is used for the manufacture of channels, is inert to corrosive processes, and the connection of such pipes is able to withstand increased pressure.

This type of battery has excellent heat dissipation, and this is due to the fact that steel is capable of accumulating and retaining heat when warming up, and an aluminum outer case with a sufficiently large area, due to the high thermal conductivity of this metal, effectively transfers heat energy to the premises.

You might be interested in information on how

Almost all modern designs of bimetallic devices are equipped with additional "petal" ribs that form convection channels. And the more of them, the larger the heat exchange area and the higher the heat transfer from the heater. Moreover, these elements are configured in such a way that the convection currents of warm air are directed towards the room.

High-quality bimetallic radiators must be designed for a pressure of at least 40 bar, therefore, when choosing them, special attention must be paid to this parameter. Usually it is indicated as used in product testing. You should not be surprised at such a high figure - such pressure may well be provoked in the central heating system by water hammer.

By the way, bimetallic radiators fully reveal their operational capabilities precisely under conditions of high pressure and heating temperature, therefore they are preferable for central heating systems. And if this type of batteries is planned for an autonomous system, then a powerful water pump will have to be installed in it, which will create the necessary pressure for the circulation of the coolant.

Popular manufacturers of bimetallic radiators

On the Russian market there are products of various manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, and their products differ from each other both in their characteristics and in the price level. To give an idea of these parameters, a number of models of bimetallic radiators manufactured by different companies will be considered next.

And it’s worth starting with the most affordable option.

WARMA Co.

WARMA is a Russian-Chinese company that produces sectional cast bimetallic radiators. Production facilities are located in China, but they are equipped with high-quality European equipment, and the technical control of manufactured products is carried out by Russian specialists.

These products fully comply with GOST 31311-2005 and all other standards of the Russian central heating system.

Bimetallic batteries "WARMA" are designed for installation in autonomous circuits of private houses, and apartments of high-rise buildings connected to heating plants.

Models "WARMA BIMETALL" are produced in two versions - WB350 and WB500. They differ in center distance and, accordingly, in some other operational parameters. The main characteristics of these batteries are summarized in the table below.

The steel core of these radiators is made of carbon steel - its vertical channel has a wall thickness of 2 mm and an inner diameter of 20 mm, and the steel thickness of the horizontal collector sections of the sections is 4 mm.

The manufacturer declares the following technical and operational characteristics of its products:

To make it easier for the consumer to decide on the choice of the number of WARMA radiator sections required to heat a room of a certain area, the manufacturer presents tables indicating the recommended solution.

Model WB350 with a height of 410 mm, a depth of 80 mm and a center distance of 350 mm, are assembled into batteries from a different number of sections and have the following heating options when assembled:

Number of sections in the battery, pcsRadiator width, mmHeat transfer from the battery, W.Room area, m²
4 320 520 5÷6
5 400 650 6÷7
6 480 780 8
7 560 910 9
8 640 1040 10
9 720 1170 11÷12
10 800 1300 13
11 880 1430 14
12 960 1560 15÷16

The WB500 model, having a height of 560 mm, a depth of 80 mm and an interaxal distance of 500 mm, composed in a single structure, also from a different number of sections, has a greater heat transfer, which is:

Number of sections in the battery, pcs.Radiator width, mmHeat transfer from the battery, W.Room area, m²
4 320 720 7
5 400 900 9
6 480 1080 10÷11

10 800 1800 18
11 880 1980 19:20
12 960 2160 21÷22

In order not to return to this issue again, it should be noted right away that such an approach to determining the number of radiator sections only by the area of the room is very approximate. It does not take into account many other features of the room and the way the batteries are installed. Therefore, in the appendix to this article, a convenient universal calculator will be provided that allows you to calculate the number of radiator sections of any brand with high accuracy.

The cost of one section of the WARMA radiator is approximately 450÷500 rubles for the WB300 model, 600÷630 rubles. for the WB500 model. The price level, of course, may vary somewhat in different regions of the country.

Radiators "Könner"

"Könner" - despite the clearly German-language name, a Russian company is registered under this trademark. Its products (again, completely Russian-made) are in no way inferior in quality to other European counterparts, as they are designed on the basis of modern technologies and taking into account the peculiarities of the regions of Russia. The main production facilities of Könner are located in China.

The company began its work on the production of cast-iron batteries about 25 years ago, but sensitively responded to market demands and launched more modern heating devices into the development and production. So, already in the early 2000s, aluminum and bimetallic radiators of their own design began to arrive in Russian construction stores. In this short period of time, the products managed to become quite popular, thanks to their affordable prices and high quality.

The company's engineers, knowing the special specific conditions of the Russian central heating system, improved and adapted the technical characteristics of the devices, the design of which was taken as a basis. That is why these models of radiators compare favorably with other foreign analogues. Due to their reliability, Könner radiators are suitable for installation in both central and autonomous heating systems.

Heating devices of this brand have high anti-corrosion characteristics, have good resistance to pressure loads, calmly withstanding water hammer. Radiators owe their reliability to strong pipes, vertical pipes and a horizontal collector, which are made of high-alloy steel and are the backbone of the structure. Die-cast aluminum body with large contact area for excellent heat dissipation.

The high quality of Könner products is confirmed by international ISO certificates and full compliance with domestic GOST 31311-2005, section "Heating appliances". The products of this manufacturer have repeatedly occupied the first places in the Russian Federation in terms of consumer demand.

The technical characteristics of these products are presented in the table:

Bimetallic radiators "Könner" go on sale in sectional and block versions. The block can include from 4 to 12 sections. The price for one section averages from 400 to 500 rubles. It is more profitable to purchase a block version - the prices for a block decrease as the number of sections increases, and can even be less than 400 rubles per section.

Radiators "TENRAD"

"TENRAD" - a company producing radiators, was established in 2005 in Germany in the city of Dresden. The enterprise was organized by young talented engineers working in the direction of designing heating systems.

Like many other companies, the production of these heaters, due to favorable conditions in the labor market, was located in China. The TENRAD radiator manufacturing plant is equipped with its own chemical-technological laboratory, state-of-the-art metal casting complexes Farm New Brass, robotic manipulators developed by the German company Kuka and body painting lines made in Switzerland. All this equipment has turned a small factory into a high-tech enterprise, in no way inferior to the leading European factories. The production of radiators is carried out under the watchful supervision of German specialists-technologists of the parent company TENRAD.

The walls of the TENRAD BM radiator collector on horizontal channels have a thickness of 3.6 mm, and on vertical channels - 1.8 mm. The fins, installed in three rows, create two convection gaps in the upper part of the radiator, through which the heated air enters the room. Radiators are covered with high-quality paint and varnish compositions in two layers, and the outer one consists of sprayed epoxy polyester, which meets the requirements of SanPiN 2.1.2.729-99 and RD 52.04.186-89 standards, which establish the hygienic safety of materials. In addition, TENRAD VM products comply with GOST 31311-2005, which confirms their adaptation to Russian heating systems.

Bimetallic radiators "Radena"

Radena is an Italian company whose office, design bureau and testing laboratories are located in Italy, but the products themselves are manufactured again in China, at the WANGDA Group plant, under the close supervision of Italian specialists.

This brand of radiators is of decent quality and good adaptation to Russian heating networks, so it is difficult to find negative reviews about them. Products have been presented on our market since 2010, and during this time they have gained wide popularity, despite the relatively high price. This is explained by the fact that buyers are attracted by the quality and reliability of these radiators.

The model range is represented by three items - with different center distances: 150, 350 and 500 mm.

The design features of these radiators include the following:

  • Self-centering gaskets installed between sections are made of graphite, so there will be no distortion during assembly and disassembly of the battery. Thanks to this, a high degree of sealing is achieved, and no leaks form at the joints.
  • The threads on the joints of the sections are absolutely even and never filled with paint.
  • The ends of the radiators are perfectly cleaned and ready for installation.
  • High-quality factory packaging reliably protects products from damage during transportation.

All surfaces of these radiators, both internal and external, undergo a special anti-corrosion treatment before painting. After that, they are dipped in a bath of paint, and then dried well and subjected to a second stage, during which a top layer of high-strength epoxy is sprayed.

The price of Radena radiators with different center distances may vary not only depending on this parameter, but also on the region where they are purchased. So, "CS150" - 420÷500 rubles; "CS350" - 600÷800 rubles; "CS500" - 645÷ 850 rubles.

Radiators "Rifar"

"Rifar" is a well-known domestic manufacturer specializing in the manufacture of aluminum and bimetallic batteries. Bimetal heaters are equipped with an internal monolithic manifold made of steel and housed in an aluminum housing. Batteries are produced with bottom and side connection, in three sizes.

Production facilities are located in Russia, in the city of Guy, Orenburg region. The equipment of automated lines, from the beginning to the end of the entire technological chain, is at an ultramodern level.

Heating appliances of this brand comply with European quality and Russian regulatory documents GOST 31311-2005, TU 4935-004-41807387-10. This version of radiators is mostly intended for installation in multi-storey residential and office buildings, as they have high strength and performance characteristics suitable for domestic heating systems.

  • "Rifar Monolit" is produced in two dimensional versions - with a center distance of 500 and 350 mm. Due to the fact that this “Rifar” range is highly resistant to corrosion processes, housing managers often recommend it for installation in apartments of multi-storey buildings.

The technical and operational characteristics of Rifar Monolit radiators look like this:

The average price for domestic radiators "Rifar Monolit" is quite high and is approximately 715 - 850 rubles, but it can also vary and be different for individual regions.

  • Another model line of bimetallic batteries from this company is Rifar Base Venti. It, in turn, is divided into three options, which have a center distance of 200, 350 and 500 mm.

In terms of color quality and design, the models of this series are more aesthetic than those of Rifar Monolith, however, they are significantly inferior to them in terms of their technical and operational characteristics. Therefore, the manufacturer gives a guarantee for these products for only 10 years, and estimates the operational period at 25 years.

It should be noted here that the manufacturer clearly warns that this battery option is more suitable for autonomous heating systems, since all indicators are designed specifically for it. For example, "Rifar Base Venti" radiators require a clean coolant, which can only be provided in an autonomous system. In addition, the test and operating pressure of these heaters is several times lower than that of Rifar Monolit.

So, the main technical and operational characteristics of this line are as follows:

The cost of radiators of this line is quite high, it is 725 ÷ 900 rubles per section, but it can also vary.

Bimetal radiators "Fondital"

The Fondital company was founded in 1970 in the city of Weston in the Italian province of Brescia, and since its inception has been engaged in the design and manufacture of heating systems. Over the years of work and constant development, a small enterprise has turned into a large company with several large production facilities. Today, Fondital is one of the world leaders in the design and manufacture of devices and accessories for heating systems. From heat exchange devices, this manufacturer mainly produces aluminum radiators, but there is also a bimetallic model in its assortment, which is quite popular among consumers.

The bimetallic model "Fondital" has a name that speaks for itself - "Alustal", and is intended for installation in the central heating system of multi-storey buildings.

"Fondital-Alustal" is characterized by the following technical and operational indicators:

Radiators "Fondital-Alustal" can be block, and the batteries presented for sale can include from 4 to 14 sections, to which additional blocks or separate sections may well be added. Devices are quite expensive: the average cost of one section in different regions of the country is 740÷950 rubles.

The manufacturer provides a guarantee for the free elimination of all types of manufacturing defects for a period of 20 years from the date of installation. However, such a guarantee is valid only if the installation is carried out by a qualified craftsman in compliance with all the installation conditions specified by the manufacturer in the product passport.

Radiators bimetallic company "Global"

The Italian company "Global" was founded in 1971 and, we can say that it stood at the very origins of the development and production of aluminum radiators. Having gone a long way from a small workshop, where the assembly was carried out by hand, to industrial automated workshops, today the Global company manufactures not only aluminum versions of heating devices, but also four models of bimetallic radiators of different sizes.

The company has its own testing laboratory, in which all raw materials entering the enterprise are subjected to strict quality control. We are constantly developing new models and improving the technical and operational characteristics of existing product samples. The Global company issued certification for the production of radiators according to the ISO 9002 and ISO 9001-2000 European standards, and in 1996 the products of this manufacturer were also certified in the GOST RF system. Year by year, the demand for heating appliances of this company is growing, which indicates a high consumer confidence in products under the Global logo.

The main characteristics of bimetallic radiators manufactured by the company are given in the table:

The color gamut of GLOBAL bimetallic radiators is wider, but the coloring of released models is often carried out at the request of consumers, and white glossy remains the standard color for batteries.

Bimetallic radiator "GLOBAL STYLE PLUS" 500 - 7 sections in basic color

All radiators go through a two-stage painting process. The first stage consists in immersing the products in a special bath and is called anaphoresis. The second stage includes spraying onto the prepared surfaces of a coloring substance based on epoxy resins with the addition of a coloring pigment.

As you can see from the table above, GLOBAL produces four models of bimetal radiators, named Style, Style Extra, Style Plus and Sfera. Each of the models is available in two versions - with center distances of 350 and 500 mm. The table also shows the difference in some parameters of the radiators of this manufacturer - it is easier to navigate when choosing batteries for specific conditions.

Pay attention to the warranty period - 20 years. This once again indicates that the manufacturer is completely confident in the quality of its products.

The price of GLOBAL radiators is quite high (the highest of all those discussed in this publication), but they are justified by the reliability, durability and efficiency of the devices. Thus, the average cost of one section of a heater starts from 800 and reaches 1200 rubles. More information about the price can be found on this link.

Application: How to independently calculate the number of sections of a bimetallic radiator

The method of calculation often practiced, based on 100 W of thermal energy per square meter of area, is not accurate - each of the premises has its own characteristics, which must also be taken into account. Therefore, we will take the liberty of offering the reader a more accurate algorithm, which is implemented in the program of the calculator located below.

Necessary comments on the calculation program

A few brief explanations for the calculations:

  • The total amount of heat loss is affected by the presence and number of walls in contact with the street, as well as their location on the cardinal points and in relation to the prevailing winter winds. The program provides the appropriate input fields for these data.
  • The climatic features of the region will be taken into account when specifying the minimum winter temperatures. In this case, it is necessary to indicate not anomalous, but quite normal frosts for your region in the coldest decade of winter.
  • The wall insulation parameter may raise questions. Here it is better to approach from those positions that a wall is considered to be fully insulated, the thermal insulation of which was carried out in full on the basis of the performed heat engineering calculations. There should be no uninsulated walls in residential buildings at all - no heating will simply help with this approach: it will still be cold in the room, and the walls will be damp.
  • Features of the room, that is, its height and proximity from below and above - directly affect the required amount of thermal energy to warm up the volume of the room and replenish heat loss through the ceiling.
  • After entering the parameters of the windows, the program will calculate the percentage of glazing (of the area of the room) and enter the appropriate correction factor. A similar approach is if there are regularly opened doors to the street or an unheated balcony.
  • Finally, the overall heat transfer from heating radiators is significantly affected by the scheme of their connection to the circuit and the location on the wall. All this is taken into account by the calculation algorithm.
  • Attention! The program is capable of producing two totals.

- If the calculation for a non-separable radiator model is selected, then the result should be taken into account "A"- this is the required total radiator power for a given room, expressed in kilowatts.

- If the goal is to calculate the number of sections of a collapsible radiator, then after choosing this path, an additional field will appear in which it is necessary to enter the nameplate power of one section of the selected model (in watts). The result is taken from the item "B"- this is the required number of sections, rounded up to the nearest integer.

The topic of this article is the installation of bimetallic heating radiators. In it, I'm going to talk about what pipes to use to mount a radiator, what tools you need to change the battery, and how to do this job correctly. So, let's go.

Why

Why and when do you need to install bimetallic radiators?

They are useful only and exclusively in the central heating system of an apartment building or (rarely) a private house connected to a heating main.

The advantages of bimetallic batteries are high heat transfer per section (180-190 watts on average) with significant resistance to hydrostatic pressure (for domestic Rifar Monolith radiators - up to 100 atmospheres).

Rifar Monolith is a champion in tensile strength. The radiator is designed for pressure up to 100 atmospheres, and is tested with a pressure of 150 kgf / cm2.

Why high heat transfer is needed - I think there is no need to explain, but strength is necessary when the parameters of the heating system go beyond the standard values.

Here are a couple of examples of such situations:

  1. After the end of each heating season, the heating mains are tested for density. The pressure in it rises from regular 3-7 atmospheres to 12 or more. At the time of testing, the inlet valves of the elevator assembly must be closed, but do not forget about the so-called human factor;

If the valves are not closed, and the vents are open, the pressure in the heating circuit will equalize with the pressure in the line - with quite predictable consequences for aluminum and cast iron radiators with low mechanical strength.

  1. Rapid filling of the circuit or an instant stop of circulation in it (for example, when the cheeks of the valve fall) means a water hammer - a short-term increase in pressure at the front of the coolant flow to 25 - 40 atmospheres.

The consequences of depressurization of the heating circuit due to the destruction of the heater are quite predictable. Usually all floors are flooded down to the bottom. What happens when flooded with hot and dirty water with the decoration of apartments and with household appliances (especially connected to the network) is not difficult to guess.

How

materials

Which pipes for bimetallic radiators are better to buy when moving the battery or changing the configuration of the supply?

Metal.

More specifically?

  • Water and gas pipes made of black steel or galvanized;

If a black steel pipe can be mounted on welded joints, then galvanizing is collected only on threads. The melting point of steel is 1300 - 1400 degrees, the boiling point of zinc is 900C. During electric or gas welding, the anti-corrosion coating in the weld area will inevitably evaporate, and you will get an ordinary steel pipe at the price of a galvanized one.

  • Corrugated stainless steel pipes on compression fittings;
  • Copper pipes on press fittings or solder socket fittings.

I vote with both hands for stainless steel. Not everyone has welding and related skills. From galvanization, labor-intensive threading and a large number of threaded connections scare away, from copper - the exorbitant price of the pipes themselves and fittings for their connection.

Note that the maximum operating pressure is only achievable at room temperature. When heated to a maximum of 95 degrees, the tensile strength of a polypropylene pipe decreases to 7-9 atmospheres.

The standard parameters of the heating system powered by the heating main (up to 7 kgf / cm2 at a temperature of 40 - 95 ° C) seem to fit into these values. However, in practice, deviations from the normal operating mode are always possible. In addition to the examples of situations I have given above, in which the pressure in the circuit can differ markedly from the standard one, scenarios are also possible when the maximum temperature specified in SNiPs is exceeded.

Let me give you the most obvious example of such a situation. With a large number of complaints about the cold in apartments, at the peak of cold weather, the housing organization, in theory, should coordinate with the heating networks (the organization responsible for delivering thermal energy from the CHP to consumers) to increase the diameter of the water jet elevator nozzle.

Dismantling, delivery of the nozzle to a higher organization, its boring, return delivery and installation takes a long time.

It is impossible to stop the heating circuit at the peak of cold weather even for several hours: at least the driveway heating will be defrosted and will require a long and painful (it’s cold!) Repair. Residents cannot ignore the complaints of residents: this is fraught with recalculation for heating through the court and the loss of part of the funding.

That is why, as a temporary measure during the coldest few weeks of winter, the following step is often taken:

  • The nozzle is removed from the elevator;
  • The suction (a jumper with a return line through which part of the waste coolant is involved in a repeated circulation cycle) is suppressed with a steel pancake.

As a result, not a mixture of water from the supply and return threads enters the heating system, but only water from the supply. Which, for a moment, at the peak of frost leaves the boiler room with a temperature of 150C and does not evaporate only due to excess pressure.

What will happen to polymer pipes, designed for an operating temperature of 95C, at 130-150 degrees?

  • In the best case for the apartment owner, their resource will decrease from the planned 30-50 years to several months;

  • At worst, he'll get a flooded room and lawsuits from his riser neighbors.

In case of unauthorized replacement of any engineering communications, the responsibility for any accident is borne by the owner of the property. Accordingly, the repair of apartments on the lower floors and the purchase of new household appliances by neighbors will burden his wallet.

What should be the size of the pipes?

The inner diameter must correspond to the inner diameter with a minimum error (typically 20 or 25 millimeters). The narrowing of the riser will cause a drop in the temperature of the batteries for all neighbors from above and below.

In addition, it is at the narrowing that the scale or wooden chopik that has flown into the heating system from the heating main will get stuck (yes, yes, this happened in my practice).

Do I need any additional fittings to mount the radiator?

Typically, the piping of the heater includes:

  • Two through radiator plugs;

Radiators are often equipped with four blind plugs and two plugs for them. This allows you to use any connection method - both one-way and two-way.

  • One blind plug and one flush cock. The flusher allows you to deal with silting of the radiator: a hose is connected to it, through which water, together with sludge that interferes with circulation, is discharged into the sewer;
  • A pair of ball valves or a set of a valve and a throttle or thermal head. Shutoff and throttling valves will help reduce the heat transfer of the heater in the thaw and in spring;

In the photo - a throttle that allows you to adjust the heating of the heater.

  • A couple of Americans. They provide much easier and faster dismantling compared to sleds;
  • Jumper (a piece of pipe or a long spigot with a lock nut and two tees). The jumper passes through itself the coolant circulating in the riser with the taps on the supply line completely or partially closed. If you cover the tap that opens the riser, after a short time offended neighbors will come to you and begin to question your high moral qualities aloud;

  • On the upper floor of the house with a lower bottling (in which the heating supply and return are separated in the basement, and the risers are connected in pairs on the upper floor) there is a Mayevsky crane.

Tools

What tools will require the installation of a bimetallic battery with your own hands with the dismantling of the old battery?

Here is a typical contents of my suitcase:

  • Gas wrench No. 2-3 for unscrewing the radiator caps of an old radiator (usually cast iron), for tightening new plugs and, if necessary, for threading;

  • Gas wrench No. 1 for loosening and tightening locknuts and fittings;
  • Plumbing linen for sealing threaded connections;

Sealing will be more reliable if, when winding, a little quick-drying paint on any organic solvent is applied to the flax. The paint will not allow the flax to rot when the heating is turned off and burn out when it is turned on.

  • A grinder with a cutting wheel for steel or a hacksaw for cutting pipes (if the installation of a radiator requires a change in the configuration of the connection);
  • Die with a holder for cutting pipe threads DN 15 - DN25 (depending on the diameter of the riser);

  • Machine oil (for example, for lubricating sewing machines);
  • Rough file for metal.

How

How to properly dismantle old cast-iron batteries and install bimetallic heating radiators?

Just

Let's start with the simplest scenario: the piping and valves do not need to be replaced, new batteries are placed on the old shackles.

Here is the order of our actions:

  1. We reset the riser (in a system with a bottom filling - a couple of risers) of heating. You can find your risers in the basement, guided by the flights of stairs at the entrance to the entrances;

  1. We unscrew and drive the locknuts on the eyeliners along the threads;
  2. We clean the threads from the old winding;

  1. We unscrew and drive the radiator plugs through the threads;
  2. Remove the radiator from the brackets;

Keep your pelvis ready. There will probably be some water and a lot of sludge left in the battery.

  1. We unscrew and remove the old radiator plugs from the connections. They do not fit threads to bimetallic batteries (32 mm versus 25);
  2. We wind new plugs on the eyeliners;
  3. We screw a blind plug and a flusher into the radiator, having previously wound up the external threads;

Often, radiator plugs are equipped with rubber or silicone gaskets. In order not to wrinkle such a gasket when screwing in the cork, apply a little liquid soap to the end of the extreme section.

  1. We put the battery on the brackets;

Sometimes they have to be replaced. Cutting off old brackets is easiest with a grinder. New ones are screwed into a plastic dowel inserted into a pre-drilled hole.

  1. We screw into it wound or equipped with gaskets through passage plugs;
  2. We wind and tighten the locknuts. That's all. You can perform a trial run of the riser.

Difficult

How to install a new radiator with altered piping?

The key difference from the scenario described above is the need for manual threading.

This is done like this:

  1. The dropped riser is cut;

  1. At the end of the cut pipe, a file or grinder is chamfered at an angle of about 20-30 degrees to its axis. The chamfer is needed as a lead for the die;
  2. The pipe is lubricated. Lubrication will avoid scuffing and reduce the force required for threading;
  3. The die is put on the pipe with the long end of the holder and pressed against it with the maximum possible force, while simultaneously rotating clockwise. After the first thread is cut, the die can not be pressed;

Hold the riser with a pipe wrench. When threading, you can break the tightness of the radiator connection with the piping in the apartment above or below yours, or even completely tear off the piping.

  1. To install a fitting (corner or tee), five threads are cut.

The installation technology of the liner connections is determined by the type of pipes:

  • The corrugated stainless pipe is inserted into the fitting with a loose union nut, after which it is tightened;
  • The copper pipe and the inner surface of the fitting are ground, treated with flux and heated with a gas burner or a building hair dryer. Then a rod of solder is introduced into the flame of the burner or into the stream of hot air, which, melting, fills the gap between the pipe and the fitting due to the capillary effect;
  • Threaded fittings on galvanized or black steel pipe are assembled on sanitary flax impregnated with paint.

Conclusion

As you can see, replacing batteries is not a big deal and is quite affordable even for a beginner in the field of plumbing. The video in this article will help you learn more about it. I look forward to your comments. Good luck, comrades!

It often happens that for some reason the owners are not satisfied with the installed heating system or just the apartment needs to be replaced by obsolete Soviet batteries. Removing old equipment is easy, but choosing new equipment is usually difficult. Not every product of an aesthetic appearance is able to withstand the pressure of the city heating system for decades. Therefore, experts advise choosing bimetallic radiators, which are not inferior to cast iron in terms of reliability and are comparable to them in terms of durability.

What is a bimetal radiator?

As can be seen from the name of the heating device, it is made from two metals that differ in properties. The body is made of aluminum, which is characterized by good heat dissipation and low weight. To enhance the heating properties of the outer part of the battery, they give a special shape for the free circulation of air flows.

Inside the radiator is a steel or copper core through which hot water or other liquid circulates. The pipe material is very durable, therefore it is able to withstand coolant pressure up to 100 atmospheres (some models), and heating up to 135 ° C.

Bimetal product combines the strength of steel and the excellent thermal conductivity of aluminum.

Attention! There are semi-bimetallic heating radiators on the market, which are equipped only with vertical reinforcing steel tubes. The rest is made of aluminium. Such batteries have a higher heat transfer compared to bimetal, which is a plus, and are significantly cheaper. However, the installation of such products in a centralized network is not recommended due to low strength and wear resistance.

Advantages of bimetal

The popularity of modern bimetal radiators is not accidental. They are distinguished by a set of unique properties and advantages.

  • The thought-over design of the case is created for the maximum heat emission and free air circulation by the principle of convection.
  • Radiators are assembled in sections, which makes it easy to increase or shorten them, depending on the needs of homeowners.
  • Monolithic structures are distinguished by the highest resistance to water hammer, complete elimination of leaks and a service life of up to 100 years.
  • Bimetal batteries have an attractive design, are presented in a variety of colors and are coated with a two-layer coloring composition that is protected from damage and fading.
  • The aluminum case heats up rapidly and cools down just as quickly, which makes it possible to thin.
  • The steel or copper collector of bimetallic radiators is able to constantly withstand a chemically active coolant.

Note! To prevent corrosion, air must be bled regularly to prevent prolonged contact of oxygen with the inside of the instrument.

  • The devices demonstrate high resistance to heat and are able to withstand even 130 ° C.
  • A well-thought-out connection system makes installation very easy.

Criteria for choosing a bimetallic battery

To choose the right radiator, you should build on several basic criteria:

  1. Core materials (steel, copper).
  2. Battery design (monolithic, sectional).
  3. The value of the interaxal distances.
  4. Manufacturer.

Sectional or monolithic bimetal?

More common on the market is the sectional version of bimetallic heating radiators. This is justified by the fact that it gives more scope for installation in various conditions. It allows you to easily add or subtract the required number of sections when calculating the heating area and is distinguished by an affordable price.

The main disadvantage of a monolithic bimetal is its high cost.

The center distance is the distance between the location of the lower and upper collectors. As a rule, the parameter is indicated in millimeters. Standard sizes are available from 200 to 800 mm. These options are usually enough to match the radiators to the wiring installed in the room.

More often on the market there are products with a distance between the cores of 500 and 350 mm. These dimensions are standard for most modern new buildings. Difficulties arise when finding narrow 200mm batteries that are well suited for a small kitchen or toilet, and wide 800mm products are usually only available to order.

Choose a manufacturer

Since bimetallic radiators are not cheap and are installed for many years and even decades, it is important to purchase a really high-quality product from a trusted and reliable manufacturer. The following companies have proven themselves well:

  • global;
  • Sira;
  • Rifar;
  • STOUT;
  • royal.

Note! Products of European brands, as a rule, are of high quality assembly and production materials. Nevertheless, it is not always adapted to the peculiarities of domestic heating networks.

Global

Models of radiators of the Italian manufacturer have earned a good reputation in the CIS. The insides of the batteries are made of alloy steel, the outer part is aluminum alloy. They have all the advantages of high-quality bimetal. The disadvantages include a slight drop in heat transfer with a decrease in the degree of coolant.

The maximum operating temperature is 110 °C, pressure is 35 atm. The range is represented by the following models with a center distance of 350 and 500 mm:

  • Global STYLE 350/500. Heat transfer of 1 section - 120 and 168 W, respectively.
  • Global STYLE PLUS 350/500. Section power - 140/185 W.
  • Global STYLE EXTRA 350/500. The heat output of one section is 120/171 W.

Sira

The Italian brand positions its products as premium products. It stood out in the market due to its high quality and pleasant design based on smooth rounded shapes. In addition, the line has models with a rather rare center distance of 200 and 800 mm. The maximum heat carrier temperature is -110 °С, pressure - 30 atm.

The range includes the following modifications:

  • Sira Gladiator 200/350/500 (center distance) - 92/140/185 W (section power).
  • Sira RS Bimetal 350/500/800 - 145/201/282 W.
  • Sira Ali Metal 500 - 187 W.

The line includes the following popular models:

  • Rifar Base 500. The heat dissipation of one element is 136/204 W.
  • Rifar Forza 350/500 - 136/202 W.
  • Rifar Monolit 350/500 -134/194 W.

For objectivity, we present models of radiators of comparable power with a center distance of 500 mm.

Radiators with a center distance of 350 mm:

How many sections will you need?

To determine the required number of sections for a specific area, you should first look at the technical data sheet of the radiator. This document contains information about the thermal power of each section, expressed in watts, which will be needed to calculate their number. The required amount of heat generated by radiators depends on the characteristics of the heated area. Consider common options.

How is the calculation made?

  1. To obtain the required heat output of radiators for the room, we multiply the area by the heating power index, determined from the table above. If the apartment has non-standard high ceilings or panoramic windows, then an amendment is applied and the result is additionally multiplied by 1.1.
  2. From the passport of the bimetallic radiator, the power value for a separate section is taken. Then the result obtained in paragraph 1 is divided by the figure taken from the instructions for the device. Thus, the required number of sections for the room comes out. Non-integer values are rounded up. They do the same with the number of sections, since often the radiator consists of an even number of them.
