And if so, then we get down to business and learn how to make artificial snow that will delight you and your loved ones, giving your masterpieces a truly fabulous winter flavor! In fact, there is no one recipe for making artificial snow with your own hands: there are many ways that differ from each other in the result - the resulting "snow" mass - sometimes quite strongly. However, each recipe has its adherents among craftsmen and can serve the purpose of decoration in its own style, for certain crafts. In this article, we will look at some of the most successful, in our opinion, ways to make artificial snow and hoarfrost: we advise you to try each, choosing the best option (or options) for yourself.
For the sake of objectivity, it is worth mentioning that special aerosol cans with “artificial snow” are on sale, the contents of which very plausibly reproduce real snow, as well as the corresponding powders and granules for dissolving in water. However, we will not follow this simple, but much more expensive path, and will now begin to roll up our sleeves and get down to business. 
Any artificial snow recipe is multi-component in its structure and consists of several ingredients, which, when mixed in certain proportions and under certain conditions, give the desired result. Almost all of the proposed options are easy to do in an ordinary kitchen or home workshop.
How to make artificial snow at home?
Method number 1
A great sparkling result will be obtained if you mix corn starch with shaving cream and sparkles. You will have to experiment with proportions to achieve the result you need. Optionally (and if available, of course) when kneading, you can add mint extract. Instead of starch, cornmeal is suitable, and sparkles are often “replaced” with mica. In any case, the result of your efforts will surely please you. 
Method number 2
Shaving foam can also be mixed with regular baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonate - the essence is the same, do not be afraid of differences on packages from different manufacturers). It is important to gradually add it to the foam squeezed out in advance into a suitable container, the resulting white mass, pleasant to the touch, can be “seasoned” with sparkles, achieving the charm of snow sparkling in the sun. Usually one and a half standard packs of soda are required per can of foam. 
Method number 3
The pre-frozen toilet soap grated on a cheese grater looks incredibly plausible as artificial snow. Any variety will do, the main thing is that the color of the bar is as white as possible. The mint extract and sparkles added to the resulting mass will also come in very handy for a greater decorative effect. 
Method number 4
Not exactly cheap and not at all free (although, for whom it’s different) is to gut a regular baby diaper: we only need its sodium polyacrylate filler, which then needs to be torn into small pieces. It is an absorbent material that crystallizes under the influence of moisture and retains it. Therefore, the material extracted from the diaper is placed in a container and gradually filled with clean water, just make sure that it is not more than enough to form "snow". If you have doubts about the harmlessness of sodium polyacrylate, take into account the fact that you took it out of the most loyal thing to the sensitive body of a baby - a diaper. 
Method number 5
In nature, snow, as you know, can look somewhat different, while remaining the same snow. So this method offers a slightly peculiar artificial snow - it is best used to create "snow massifs", "snowy expanses". You will need ordinary starch, PVA glue and silver paint: just take one equal part each (usually it is calculated in the amount of 2 tablespoons, but this is not important) and mix thoroughly until you get the “snow” mass you need. 
Method number 6
This is not exactly snow, or rather, not snow at all, but “hoarfrost”, which may be required to create believable compositions. Sprigs of needles, ordinary twigs and grass are covered for this purpose with a very cool saline solution, which, when dried, crystallizes on their surface and shines, just like real frost! And to achieve this effect is very simple: gradually pour coarse salt into a container of hot water on the stove over low heat, and when the salt stops dissolving, turn off the heat and dip the plants prepared in advance into the solution. The branches with the future “frost” are infused until the water cools, then they are removed and dried under normal conditions for about 4-5 hours - you will see the result yourself! 
Method number 7
Often, for the design of a "winter" craft, a so-called. "snow paint" To prepare it, let's take the already familiar shaving cream (the brand does not matter - the main thing is that it be white), PVA glue, as well as the ubiquitous sparkles - where without them, and mint extract. After cutting the diaper, we take out the sodium polycarbonate. Then pour it into a container and add a little water. Mix thoroughly. Water must be added until our diaper filling, that is, sodium polycarbonate, looks like real snow. The most important thing is not to overdo it with water. In order for our artificial snow to be cold, you just need to put it in the refrigerator. Here you should pay attention to the temperature, which should not be below zero, otherwise it will turn out not snow, but ice. If these conditions are met, everything should work out! In this way, you can also make multi-colored snow with your own hands by adding food coloring to the container.
IDEA #4 SNOW FROM A WAX CANDLE
You can grate white soap or a candle. The resulting chips must be mixed with baby powder or starch so that the “snow” does not cake and stick together.

Hoarfrost can be made not only on branches, but also on fruits. And why not a New Year's bouquet with a frosted apple or a tangerine in the snow? On well-washed and dried fruits, apply fresh egg white and, without wasting time, sprinkle the fruit with sugar or powdered sugar. Add a couple of sprigs of spruce, dry maple or holly leaves to the fruit and your bouquet is ready!
IDEA #16 SOAP SNOW
Option number 1. Soap and toilet paper.
Prepare 2-3 rolls of white toilet paper and a bar of white soap. Tear into small pieces. Place a dish with a mixture of paper and a whole bar of soap in the microwave for 1 minute. Check content every 15 seconds. In the oven, the mass should fluff up. Now the soap has become soft and crumbles right in your hands. Fill the mixture with water. First add 1 cup, then add another half cup. Now you can form a snowball.

I don’t know about you, but I always wait for him at the end of November, and if he doesn’t appear by mid-December, I look out the window with particular longing and don’t feel a special “taste” of the upcoming holidays. This is exactly the situation that happened this year, but I decided not to give up and arrange a miracle at home by making snow from soda.
Miracles and fairy tales are desirable for any of us, regardless of age. That is why with the onset of the winter period, which indulges us with numerous bright holidays, everyone tries to “saturate” the atmosphere with more vivid emotions. Artificial snowfall can "strew" your Christmas tree with white splendor. In a matter of seconds, he will “powder” window sills, Christmas decorations, candles, and can be “present” on the festive table in the form of a snowman. Try to make a snowy fairy tale with your own hands, especially if you have children, and there will be no limit to delight.
On the Internet, I found many interesting ideas for creating snow from soda and other materials, but I chose the simplest ones for myself. If you do not want to spend money on the purchase of store-bought compositions that imitate snow and hoarfrost, then my collection will interest you. By the way, the resulting fluffy, cold "white happiness" practically does not differ from the artificial winter "paraphernalia" purchased in the store.
Artificial snow, created from soda and PVA glue, will help decorate various surfaces with voluminous snowdrifts. To get such a mass, you will need:
- soda (you can take starch) - 4 tbsp. spoons;
- PVA glue - 4 tbsp. spoons;
- silver paint - 4 tbsp.
Mix all components thoroughly until a thick consistency is obtained, then apply to the desired surface. As soon as your "drifts" dry up, you will not distinguish them from real snow mounds.

Artificial snow made from baking soda and shaving foam
Making fake snow with baking soda and shaving foam is fun. You will need the following number of the components below:
- sodium bicarbonate - 1.5 packs;
- foam - 1 bottle.
Squeeze the foam into a deep container and pour in the white powder at the same time. It is very important to immediately mix the components, acting with short pauses: add soda to the foam, mix, add again, mix. After the mixing process is completed, the mass should be placed in the refrigerator and kept there for 5 minutes. After this period, pull out the composition and, if desired, add sparkles. Artificial snow from soda is ready.
The main feature of this composition is that it will have a frosty freshness plume if a foam with the appropriate aroma is selected.
Snow made from baking soda and salt
If you want to “wrap” the branches with enchanting hoarfrost, then this is not difficult at all. All you need is:
- water in the amount of 5 liters;
- table salt 1.5 packs;
- baking soda - 1 pack.
Snow from soda and salt is created as follows:
- Take an enamel container and pour water into it;
- Add dry ingredients to the liquid, and put on fire;
- Heat the solution, stirring the ingredients regularly;
- As soon as the salt and soda are completely dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat;
- Let the composition cool slightly, then place the pine / spruce branches in the prepared solution and keep them for 4 to 6 hours. During this period, an attractive snow crust forms on the surface of the needles;
- After the expiration of the period, remove the branches from the solution and let them dry (30-40 minutes is enough).
Snow from glycerine
To make a fluffy miracle that you can admire endlessly - use glycerin. Try with your own hands to create a popular "snow globe" with the children. To make this splendor, prepare the following components of a fabulous toy:
- paraffin candle;
- glycerol;
- water;
- glitter (optional)
Snow flakes will be obtained when you rub the candle on a fine grater. Next, they take an ordinary jar with a lid, pour water and glycerin into it, mix everything and add the created snow flakes and some sparkles. The container is hermetically sealed. If you shake it, you can admire the snow smoothly falling to the bottom of the can.

Needlewomen often keep the remains of polymer clay, which is a pity to throw away. It is very convenient to grind it with your hands, and then with a coffee grinder. It turns out a light and multi-colored (when using colored clay) snowball, which can be used to decorate postcards and other hand-made products.
11. Snow from a baby diaper
Ingredients:
baby diaper.
To get snow, you need:
1. Cut open the diaper and remove the sodium polyacrylate from it, and then tear it into small pieces.
2. Put the resulting mass into a container and fill it with water. Pour in gradually, in small portions, until the pieces of polyacrylate begin to resemble snow. Just do not overdo it, otherwise it will turn out too wet;
3. To make the snow look more realistic, put the container in the refrigerator, but not in the freezer.
12. Frost from salt
Ingredients:
salt (preferably coarsely ground);
water.
We prepare a concentrated salt solution. To do this, fill the pan with a small amount of water and put on low heat. Add salt until it no longer dissolves. We dip the branches of spruce, pine or any other plant in a hot solution and leave for a while. The process of crystal formation goes much faster in warm water! We let the water drain and leave the plants to dry for 4-5 hours. Sparkling frost is guaranteed! If you add brilliant green, food coloring or ink to the salt solution, then the frost will turn out to be colored!
13. Artificial snow for the "snowball"
Ingredients:
Paraffin candle
It must be grated on a fine grater. Such "snow" is great for making toys "a la snowball" when glycerin and artificial snow flakes are added to the water. The container is hermetically sealed and when shaken, the snow falls smoothly to the bottom.
You can really go the simpler way - and add ordinary sparkles to such a ball. It will turn out no less effective.
14. PVA and flock snow
Flock is a very finely chopped pile. And if you are lucky enough to find a package of white flock on sale, rejoice. After all, now you will get "snow" for any craft in a matter of minutes. It is enough to generously grease the surface with glue and sprinkle flock on top (you can use a strainer).
15. Snow from PVA and starch
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons starch
2 tablespoons PVA
2 tablespoons silver paint
Thoroughly mix (grind) the ingredients.
Such snow is suitable when it is necessary to decorate the surface of the product with a bulky white mass.
16. Mass imitating snow
Ingredients:
fine quartz sand or semolina or foam chips
white acrylic
thick PVA
1. Pour a small amount of your chosen material into a bowl. Approximately 1 faceted glass.
2. In this bulk material, we begin to gradually add white acrylic paint. From experience, it is better to buy it in a hardware store for facade work. We add to such a state that our loose particles stick together, but do not float in the liquid.
3. Then add PVA, preferably thick. We also add quite a bit so that the mixture is elastic and viscous.

17. Sugar snow
Ingredients:
sugar.
Dip the rim of the glass (glass) in water or syrup, and then in sugar.
18. "Snow-covered" plants
Ingredients:
gum arabic;
egg white.
With the help of these components, plants can be candied (non-poisonous and non-bitter). Flowers of pear, apple, cherry, rose, violet, primrose, lemon, begonia, chrysanthemum, gladiolus, pansies have good taste. To create such snow, you will need 1 can of white shaving foam, squeeze all the foam into a bowl, gradually adding soda at this time (you will need about 1.5 packs of baking soda). Mix, and you will get a pleasant mass of snow, with the help of such snow you can also sculpt snowballs and figures.
Polyethylene foam snow.

Snow from a baby diaper.
