Preparing the doorway
You can, of course, mount an accordion door inside an existing door frame. However, this will significantly reduce the useful width of the opening. It is best to dismantle the completely old door along with the box and knock down the solution under them down to the base ( brickwork or concrete wall). After that, you can measure the resulting opening and check the list of nominal door sizes with different amount elements. Such a list is attached to the instructions for the door. It is only important to take into account the width of the extensions. As a result, it becomes clear: whether it is necessary to expand the opening somewhat or, conversely, with the help of extensions, mounting foam and bars, reduce the dimensions to the required parameter.
Harvested extensions are cut to form a box without a nut. In this case, the upper crossbar is attached with its ends to the upper edge of the vertical extensions and fastened with self-tapping screws.
Important: In order not to damage the material, you should first drill holes at the installation site of the self-tapping screw with a drill of a smaller diameter (2 mm) and only then screw in the self-tapping screws.
After the box is ready, it can be inserted into the doorway and secured with the help of bars and other wooden substrates as wedges. For reliability, it is better to use several bars equal in width to the doorway, form spacers in the center and along the bottom edge so that the extensions do not sag during installation. To fix the extensions to the wall, long anchors are used, installed three on each side and at least two on top.
As soon as the anchors are twisted, you can foam the gap between the extensions and the wall. After the foam has dried, you can proceed directly to the installation of the accordion sliding door.
Installing guides
In order not to make mistakes in the calculations, it is better to start with the installation of guides and other fasteners. As part of a set of accordion door parts, there is a guide profile. According to the instructions, the required length of the profile is measured and the excess is cut off. It is advisable to use a miter box so that the cut is perfectly even.
In the same way, according to the instructions, the profile for fastening the blind part of the door is cut off and the counter from the side of the handle of the future door. After that, we check all the dimensions, but only by attaching the profile, without fixing them. Holes for self-tapping screws are pre-drilled in the profiles. In the upper profile for every 5-7 cm, and on the side profiles, holes with a diameter of 3 mm are drilled every 15-20 cm.
If the profile is designed for fastening with special clips, then you can already proceed with the installation of clips around the perimeter of the doorway. Usually, the same clips are used for the upper guide (rails) and the profile on which the blind part will be attached door leaf harmonicas. The top guide should be reinforced so that the clips are spaced approximately 5-7 cm apart. On the sides, you can limit yourself to installing only 4 or 5 clips evenly in height.

All strips that will make up the door leaf should be cut so that they fit in height. This takes into account the margin for the roller system from above, which is inserted into the rail. A ventilation gap of approximately 7-10 mm should remain at the bottom of the door, as is the case with any interior door.

Final assembly and fixing
Now it remains only to install the folding interior accordion door inside the prepared doorway. The door leaf is threaded by rollers into the guide profile. When all elements are inserted, the door is folded and placed in the center of the profile. In this state, it is most convenient to install the guide in the doorway.

Under the screws in the profile, we drill holes with a diameter of 3 mm. At the top, the distance between them will be 5 - 7 cm; on the side, 15 - 20 cm.
Assembling the door panel

Completing assembly and fixing

The guide is fastened with self-tapping screws, along the entire length, observing a distance of 5 - 7 cm. Next, we attach the side profiles, strengthening the blind part of the door to the desired profile. It is necessary to check the ease of opening and closing the doors, as well as the fit of the door to the profile, from the side where the handle is located. The fit must be tight.
Final stage
When all installation work has been completed, it is necessary to install trim around the entire door perimeter. Using a miter box and a hacksaw, we adjust the trim, cutting the excess at an angle of 45 degrees. You can attach platbands using liquid nails or ordinary furniture nails. At this stage, the installation of doors is fully completed. The same method is used to install the door-book.

We start the axis of the end panel into the latch, place the slider of the carriage in the rail. We fix the guide in the upper part of the doorway (with self-tapping screws - 20-30 mm). Now we will install 2 metal axles in the end sash - from above and from the bottom.
To do this, mark the position of the axes and drill holes for them (in the absence of these holes). The depth of the hole must be less than the length of the axles.
The end of each axle will protrude slightly (the size is usually indicated in the installation instructions). We fix the axes on the panel - the lower and upper axes must match both horizontally and vertically.
Under the axis, which is located in the lower corner of the doorway, we install the receiving plate, marking the position relative to the latch (previously installed on the guide).
On the upper end of the panel, installed last relative to the panel with iron axes, we drill a hole for fastening the slider. Lay the panels side by side in the position that they will be hinged together.
Do not confuse the location of the left and right panels.
Installing the hinges
We carefully mark their location on the doors, mark the required distance with a pencil.
Place 3 loops between adjacent doors (not at the extreme ones).

For the handle, we drill a groove on the extreme panel, it must be installed on the extreme panel near the loop connection. We drill a groove between the panels for the locking lock.
Now you can hang the assembled sashes on the mounts. We fold the sash, raise and insert the metal axles into the landing plates. Next, we connect the axis of the carriage with the plate of the extreme sash.
You will need a key to adjust the position and stroke of the sash. By tightening or loosening the nuts on the end or carriage axles, we adjust the sash.
What to do if the doorway into which the accordion door is mounted is more than a meter. Installing rails on the door leaf
After installing the box, we proceed to the installation of the guides. First of all, you need to take measurements and cut off excess pieces. This must be done very carefully and for this purpose, use the wort.
Then we make holes for self-tapping screws with a diameter of 3 mm. On the top rail they should be at a distance of 6-7 cm from each other, and on the side rails, the pitch should be approximately 20 cm. , you can limit yourself to five clips, evenly spaced along the entire length.
Door leaf installation
If you install interior sliding doors with your own hands, then you need to know that the next operation after installing the guides is to install the door leaf. The strips that make up the door must be cut correctly. To do this, you need to take into account the distance for the installation of rollers and the gap under the door. Its width should be approximately one centimeter.
Installation must be carried out strictly according to the instructions, since each manufacturer has its own nuances that must be taken into account. The assembly of a plastic door leaf is somewhat different from MDF. Plastic sheets are usually assembled using grooves or additional spacers, and wooden doors are assembled using a long axis. The assembly of the door is completed by placing the rollers.

After installing the door leaf, you need to install handles and other fittings. Accordion door fittings are usually sold complete with doors and are also installed according to the enclosed instructions. After that, we insert the door into the guides and fold it so that it is located in the central part. In this position, it will be easiest for you to fix the guides in the doorway.
Note!
If clips are used in the door, then the guides snap onto them, and if self-tapping screws, then they are twisted along the edges with the step indicated above.
Platband installation
Now we must install the side profiles and fix the blind part of the interior doors to the required profile. After checking the quality of the door leaf, we begin the installation of platbands. They are fixed along the entire length of the doorway. But first you need to cut them to the desired length, using a hacksaw and wort.
