Decorative ponds in landscape design: special attention to style. Pond on the site as a reflection of style Landscape design with a pond

No wonder it is the flow of water that is called among those processes that you want to look at without stopping. A special magnetism is concentrated in the water surface, attracting a person, bewitching him. Therefore, ponds in landscape design play such a big role. Properly constructing and equipping a pond is a special art. The design of an ornamental pond depends on the style decision of the garden in which it is located. Do not forget that the garden, structures and buildings on the site, as well as the landscaping techniques used on its territory, must be in harmony with each other. Various garden styles many, but all this diversity can be divided into two groups: regular and landscape gardens.

Regular gardens have an accentuated geometrically correct layout. They are characterized by symmetry, which is not so common in nature. Classical Italian, French, Arab gardens can be considered examples of regular gardens.

The pond in the regular garden, made in a magnificent Moorish style, is the embodiment of the wild unbridled power and sensuality of wildlife.

IN general style ponds are made with the garden. Most often, strict outlines are used, subject to all the rules of geometry. Classical fountains, ideal cascades and channels of a verified regular shape can coexist with them. A feature of such ponds can be considered that they can be at ground level or in a bowl raised above the surface.

Muslim garden: water as a value

Water in the Arab lands is a very limited resource, which is not treated as wastefully as in Europe. Undoubtedly, water is a value. As the greatest treasure, it is placed in a kind of box - ponds in Muslim gardens have a beautiful geometric shape, side by side with neat fountains.

If in Japan the garden is a kind of microcosm and the embodiment of the universe, then among Muslims it is associated with paradise, and it’s hard to argue with that.

By the way, fountains, as a rule, work due to the force of gravity. The reservoir is equipped with a complex system of pipes, which are subject to a single goal: saving and competent distribution of water.

The Muslim pond is like a box in which the greatest jewel is hidden - water, which gives life to everything that exists on earth.

In Russia to Muslim style the closest is the popular Spanish-Mauritian. For its implementation does not need a large area. Enough minimal space in front of the house.

French pond: conquered nature

An example of the French style can be called Versailles or Peterhof Park, if we turn to Russian classics. Water in such parks is presented in a frame of strict geometric shapes. Emphasized outlines of ponds, magnificent fountain sculptures, cascades and graceful wall fountains are signs of the French style.

Geometric accuracy and alignment of lines when decorating a pond in a regular garden give the pond a special grace and charm.

In order for such a pond to be appreciated in all its splendor, a vast open space is needed.

Italian regular style

An Italian-style mini-pond is most often located in the front area, located in front of the main entrances to the house. However, ponds as part of the patio are also welcome. A small pond, along with canals and a fountain, will decorate the site and cool the air during the heat.

A beautiful and graceful pond in an Italian garden easily fits into the surrounding landscape and becomes an integral part of it.

Rare in Russia

At the peak of popularity in Europe are very shallow ponds of ideal geometric shape. Their main goal is to serve as a kind of mirror in the garden, reflecting the surrounding reality in the form of the sky and vegetation carefully selected especially for such a reservoir.

The formal decorative pool is shallow, has a well-defined shape and is designed to create a kind of mirror surface in the garden.

Ponds in landscape style

The opposite of a regular garden is considered a landscape garden, which is especially loved by our compatriots. Proximity to nature - a natural habitat and the absence of oppressive rules - is what we most often used to embody in our garden plots. The design of the pond, beloved by Russians, is usually close to its natural form.

Landscape-style ponds are often complemented by babbling streams, picturesque waterfalls and cascades: all together looks very attractive.

Such reservoirs can be seen in Japanese and Chinese style, in English classical gardens, in landscape German gardens (Naturegarten). Free outlines, subject only to the natural landscape of the area, have their own charm. Babbling brooks and waterfalls live their own special lives. The garden becomes a well-groomed, but natural corner of nature.

Densely populated Chinese pond

The Chinese pond makes us think about how abundant the nature around us is, how diverse the life that it gave rise to

Ponds in China are not empty. Not only are they surrounded by lush vegetation, no less active life is in full swing both in the reservoir itself and on its surface. Silver carp or koi live in the water, and the surface may appeal to mandarin ducks. A nice gazebo in the national style completes the picture.

Japanese pond frightening deer

Water is not present in every Japanese garden, because island Japan already has problems with land. Private gardens here are usually small. A full-fledged pond in them is replaced by pools of stone with water. Sometimes there is so little space that a stone bowl of water plays the role of a reservoir in the garden. It is called tsukubai and is made in the form of a barrel for washing hands during the tea ceremony. As a rule, the container is illuminated with a special lantern.

Depending on the space allotted for the Japanese garden, the pond may look one way or another: in any case, it is provided with a special Japanese flavor.

On the edge of the Japanese pond, there is another amazing decorative element - shishi odoshi (scaring deer). This is a kind of plumbing from a hollow bamboo stem through which water runs. The purpose of the watercourse is fully reflected in its name.

England: echoes of the colonial past

The Far Eastern natural gardens, which once struck the imagination of the colonialists from England, found a peculiar embodiment in their native expanses. It was in this way that in England appeared and took root landscape design decorative ponds. It was here that this style reached its heyday and recognition.

An English-style pond is more likely to be called landscape than natural, the plants that are planted along its banks are so carefully selected.

English ponds are the embodiment of naturalness, surrounded by cultivated moisture-loving plants. Usually reservoirs are complemented by colorful cascades and waterfalls.

Natural german garden

A distinctive feature of the German pond is the vegetation on its banks. These are usually wild, not garden plants. Ponds designed in this way look surprisingly attractive and as natural as possible.

The Naturegarten style, characteristic of a pond in a German garden, is characterized by a selection of plants planted along the banks of the reservoir. They are literally the same ones that grow behind the fence, but this is where the special chic lies.

Special avant-garde style

Conceptuality and originality - this is what distinguishes the avant-garde style from the rest. But it is almost impossible to predict the shape of the pond and its design in the avant-garde garden in advance. It all depends on the vision of the designer himself.

Emphatically artificial style also has its own appeal, doesn't it? Such a pond looks unrealistically beautiful, as if it is a figment of the imagination of a brilliant science fiction writer

A specialist can make a reservoir in a natural style or give it a strict geometric shape. Moreover, the shape of a water feature can be so intricate that it would be difficult to even identify it as a specific type of body of water or stream.

Own artificial pond in the country has ceased to be a luxury, now everyone can build such a masterpiece. Such a structure can be aesthetic and functional. Some ponds are designed to beautify the landscape, others are for swimming or fish breeding. Even just watching the water in the pond calms and improves mood. Making a pond on your site is simple, just understand the basic nuances.

Peculiarities

For some people, an artificial pond is not an ornament, but a necessity. If an annoying stream flows through your site or you have long put up with marshy land, then a pond will thoroughly improve your situation. It is best to build a reservoir in the spring. For self-construction of a pond, there are many options that involve the use of special expensive materials or available (even improvised) tools. Such a construction does not require much time, effort and money. All you need is attention to detail and strict adherence to recommendations.

Kinds

artificial pond in the country is built for various purposes. It is by this criterion that the following types can be distinguished:

  • Small. Water small size becomes part of the landscape design. It was created to decorate a certain area in the garden. Near such a pond, you can read a book in an armchair, but it does not involve active recreation.
  • Decorative. Deeper than the previous version. Such a pond has a fountain inside, lighting around the perimeter, an openwork bridge and other decorative elements. The purpose of decorative ponds is to attract all the attention. Such reservoirs are located near the gazebo or open terrace.
  • For breeding fish. Such a reservoir will delight fishermen, children and cats. Beautiful fish are a pleasure to watch, and many species are great for dinner. It is important not only to launch the fish, but also to create comfortable conditions for them to breed.
  • For swimming. Own reservoir on the site is a good alternative to a simple pool. Such a pond is not limited only to aesthetic properties, but also benefits. A small pond will provide an opportunity to cool off in the heat, and a deep and large one will allow you to swim and play water games.

Small

Decorative

Key issues such as location, size, shape and stylistic design are decided based on the type of reservoir. Therefore, first set a clear goal for yourself, only then proceed to the next steps.

Material

Modern manufacturers offer a great abundance of materials for self-manufacturing pond. It all depends on your goals and financial capabilities. For right choice must be thoroughly examined possible options. For swimming pond good option will be the construction of a concrete bowl.

Filling the pond allows you to use it long time. This option is quite expensive, but reliable. A more suitable and affordable option is polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or fiberglass. The reliability of the materials allows the bowl to be used from 5 to 30 years, it directly depends on the work performed and the type of material. Both options for creating a pond allow you to create the desired depth and shape.

Purchase forms - a simplified version. It is enough just to dig a pit, mount the form and reinforce the structure with sand. Plastic bowls are quite durable and easily endure winter frosts. Polypropylene bowls are afraid of ultraviolet rays and become unusable due to their long exposure. The disadvantages of such structures are considered to be a rather high price and difficult transportation.

A bowl under a large pond will be difficult to bring to its destination without damage. Moreover, you will need elementary skills in mounting such structures; it is difficult for beginners to cope with such a task without damaging the bowl.

The most reliable film is considered to be butyl rubber, made of rubber. Masters recommend using such material for those who have a pond of impressive depth, a bottom with many stones and roots. You can enjoy a pond with such waterproofing for 50 years. The great advantage of the material is its favorable reaction to repeated freezing and thawing. Specialized materials is the preferred option, but not the only one. Craftsmen offer the following options:

  • old bath. Such an object can be painted and installed on the surface, or it can be lowered into the ground to an arbitrary depth. Together with the pond, you can easily install a small fountain.
  • Tires. Tires or wheels are variably used as the frame of a small pond.
  • Basin. The installation method is similar to the bathroom. The object itself is so light that such ponds are often made by children and women, while they cannot cope with a bath. It is important to pay special attention to the decor so as not to overload the space with details.
  • Plastic bottles. Such material makes it possible to create small reservoirs with maximum speed. It is enough to cut the eggplant at the desired level and dig in the right place.

Keep in mind that it depends on the material how long the country pond will delight you. It is important to choose materials that do not harm the environment. Otherwise, toxins will seep into the ground, and this will affect your crop.

Size

It cannot be unequivocally stated that a large pond will cost more than a small one or will have better aesthetic properties. Best Options you need to choose based on your goals. Key factors when choosing a size:

  • Dimensions. This parameter depends solely on the location of the reservoir. It is believed that the reservoir should cover no more than 3-10% of the area of the entire summer cottage. clear boundaries no, it all depends on your preference.
  • Lenght and width. This criterion also largely depends on the size of the site, the purpose of the reservoir and on your capabilities. The latter concerns digging a pit - you can dig a small one yourself, for a large one you will need special equipment.
  • Depth. The larger the pond, the deeper it can be done. So, a mini-design can have a depth of several tens of centimeters, and a swimming pond - several meters.
  • Zoning is relevant for large reservoirs. Design experts recommend dividing the reservoir into 3 zones. The coastal zone is 10-40 cm deep for approaching the pond and planting ornamental plants. Shallow zone - from 40 cm to 1 m, at such a depth you can land a winter-hardy water lily or nymphaeum. If this is a swimming pool, then it is such a zone that will make it possible to smoothly enter the water. At a shallow depth, children can swim. The deep-water zone is more than 1 meter deep, adults can swim here, and fish are also bred at such a depth.
  • Biodynamic balance. This factor must be taken into account if various kinds of living creatures live in the pond. Provide such a balance that the artificial pond can clean itself. Purification of water in a pond with fish or plants using chlorine or ozone is not provided.
  • Care. As a rule, the larger the body of water, the easier it is to clean. Be sure to consider ways to care for plants, fish, and the pond itself.

Location

It is very important to properly position the reservoir. Especially if we are talking about a large-scale structure that will serve you for more than one year. Important factors when choosing a location:

  • Plot size. This factor is closely related to the size of the pond itself, and hence its location.
  • Relief. It is important to take into account the combination of the land relief with the forms of the pond itself.
  • Soil composition and groundwater. This factor is directly related to the maximum depth of the pond. Under unfavorable circumstances, additional troubles and material costs await you.
  • Illumination. Choose a shady spot. It is impossible that the sun hit the water for more than 5-6 hours a day. Neglect of this factor leads to active evaporation of water and increased activity of bacteria. To select the right place, observe the solar regime for 2-3 days. It is especially important to correctly evaluate this criterion when breeding fish. In heated water, the amount of oxygen decreases, which can lead to the death of pets.
  • Visibility. Choose a location where you can see the pond from a window or gazebo. A decorative pond will become a visiting card of your site if it is noticeable at the entrance to the territory.

  • Reflection. Strangely enough, it is better to think in advance what will be reflected in your pond. If a toilet in the yard or a barn gets into the reflection, this can spoil the overall impression.
  • degree of landscaping. Make sure tree roots cannot damage the pond bowl. Also keep in mind that in autumn leaves and branches can fall into the pond, which will turn into silt at the bottom. Carelessness in choosing the right place can lead to difficulties in maintaining the pond. If you really want to decorate the perimeter of the pond with bushes, then consider the option of plants in barrels (tubs).
  • Power supply. Some decorative elements operate on electricity. So, you can put an interesting fountain, make a backlight and much more. The main thing is to carefully consider the option of supplying electricity to water. It is better to think about this issue at the design stage. It is most safe to place the wires underground in a reliable corrugation. For permanent access to them, equip the hatch.
  • Future extensions and improvements. Plan ahead. You may want to expand the pond or work out the recreation area near it in more detail. Provide free space on at least one side of the pond.

Color

The tone of the waterproofing has great importance, affects the overall image. The black bottom creates the illusion of a mirror. In such a reservoir, plants and the sky are perfectly reflected. The brown and black material allows you to create an imitation of natural soil, which is usually located at the bottom of a reservoir.

Blue and cream ponds do not look much like a creation of nature, but are an excellent option when breeding motley fish. Also, blue and grayish tones are great for the body of water in which you are going to swim. These colors imitate the bottom of the pool.

Thus, the color should be chosen based on the destination. The decorative pond will come closer to the natural look due to the dark bottom. For breeding fish and swimming, you should choose bright hues up to white.

Forms

It is almost impossible to describe all forms of ponds, because the imagination of design masters knows no bounds. It is conditionally possible to distinguish the correct geometric shapes and fantasy ones. Among the first, the most popular designs are in the form of a circle, oval, rectangle. Fantasy forms are more bizarre, and this is their charm. Such ponds are most similar to the creation of nature, which does not tolerate rigor. Among the popular forms, one can single out exactly the imitation of the natural form.

Style and design

Design specialists responsibly declare that a country pond can be made in two versions, but they can have many modifications. Design options:

  1. Formal. The name speaks for itself. Such a country pond has clear geometric shapes. This option is well suited for sites in the Art Nouveau, hi-tech, minimalism, classic style. Formal include not only rectangular, square and round ponds. This also includes broken figures, they can be both symmetrical and asymmetric. The design of such ponds is strict. Classic neutral colors are used. A formal reservoir is characterized by a small number of additional decorative elements or their complete absence.
  2. Landscape. This option is more popular than the previous one. Such a pond has an indistinct coastline, close to natural look. Exactly landscape style makes it possible to create a harmonious balance between an artificial reservoir and nature itself. You can bring your wildest ideas to life. Before choosing a pond style, evaluate the terrain of the site. Smooth ground guarantees the embodiment of any fantasy form.

Rise and recess in the ground require careful study, but make it easy to build a cascade or waterfall. Bridges and slides look more natural on intricate terrain.

You can create a suitable relief artificially. Need to use more complex technologies when working with the foundation. Carelessness will lead to skew due to subsidence of the earth. A high pond (located above the ground) is also possible as part of a landscape design. There are many advantages to this design:

  • Ease of maintenance.
  • The minimum amount of earthworks.
  • Safety of children and pets.

A bath pond is the most striking example of such a reservoir. You can paint on the walls Japanese style, which looks organic in the garden. Such an element will complement the overall landscape design of the site.

How to do it yourself?

The construction of the pond should be carried out according to clear instructions. So you can properly dig the boiler and lay the waterproofing. Construction of a pond using a film step by step:

  • Making a pond starts with a plan. Choose a convenient scale and draw absolutely everything, including the depth of each zone. It is recommended at this stage to consider decoration. This is especially true if you are planning to build a pond with a waterfall. A detailed plan will help you avoid mistakes.
  • Now you need to mark up the future pit. This can be done with a rope stretched over pegs, a rubber hose or even sand (draw a contour with it). It is important that the banks are at the same height. Start digging a pit based on the plan. Check their level from time to time.
  • It's time for earthworks. Dig a hole, the depth of which will correspond to the depth of the coastal zone. Make a markup, fix the line of penetration. Arrange the second tier and make a line for digging the deepest zone of the future pond. Fulfill excavation better together, but for big pond and even hire an excavator.

  • After the hole is dug, you need to measure the dimensions and depth. Do it with string. To the resulting number, add 50 cm on each side of the pit. Now you know how much PVC film you need to purchase.
  • Cover the hole tightly with cling film. Geotextiles can be laid under the bottom so that over time the roots of the trees do not damage the waterproofing. In addition, you can strengthen the structure with the help of roofing material or linoleum. It is possible to strengthen the shore and the bottom with the help of densely packed sand. It is recommended to perform this procedure on a sunny day, so the film will heat up and lie more tightly on all the bends of the pit.
  • The edges of the film must be filled into a pre-prepared trench around the perimeter of the pond. Next, you need to fill the trench with rubble or other stone. This will ensure that the film is securely fixed.

  • The coast should be strengthened so that over time the earth does not crumble. Strengthen the edge of the pond with stone blocks or plastic pipes, they need to be nailed to the pegs. It is recommended to lay out the edge with natural stone and complement the picture with large boulders.
  • At this stage it is necessary place plants, which will decorate the pond, in special baskets and install them in the right places according to the plan. Lay out the bottom with small stone or gravel.

  • It's time to pour water into the pond. The best helper for you will be a hose. Carrying water in buckets is not convenient, especially if the reservoir is large. Stagnant water can bring many problems, including bad smell. To eliminate this complexity, you can make a pond a stream. To do this, simply raise the source a little above the level of the pond, and supply water to it from the bowl itself using a pump. Such a device will save you from unnecessary trouble.
  • Submersible pump installation, pipes to the source of the stream and connecting the filter - the last step technical work. It is recommended to use a pressure filter for water purification, it is more efficient.

A more everyday version of a pond from an old bath can be made in such a way that the old plumbing will be unrecognizable in a magical composition. The process of building a pond can be performed according to the following instructions:

  • Dig a hole under the bathroom so that the depth of the pit is 40 cm higher than the tank itself.
  • Finish the edges of the hole. Remove 35-45 cm of earth along the perimeter.
  • Deepen these strips so that the height is the same as the height of the tub.

Be sure to close the bathtub drain. You can use concrete or film for waterproofing. After that, lower the tub into the hole.

  • Paste inner part bathtubs with small tiles or paint it with waterproof paint of the desired color. Then cover the tub and let it dry completely.
  • Cover the perimeter of the bathtub with a chain-link mesh. This material is rightfully considered the best for reinforcement.
  • Cover the chain-link with a mixture of sand and cement.
  • Spend decorative works. To do this, you can use stones, tiles, gravel and similar materials.

Required Tools

The amount of inventory depends on how complex and varied the body of water you want to create. To build a simple pond, you will need:

  • Shovel.
  • Trolley for the earth.
  • Building level.
  • Cord for marking.
  • Pegs.
  • Hose for water supply.
  • Pond waterproofing film or any other base.

Such a minimum list is always needed. In addition to the above, you may need fences. This will keep your pets and children safe. Decorative fences significantly affect the overall appearance artificial reservoir.

Technique

To create a more complex composition, you need to acquire additional equipment:

  • Water purification filter. This is especially important if you are building a fish pond.
  • Water pump. Such a device is used for pumping and pumping water, operating filters, fountains and waterfalls.
  • Sterilizer. This device guarantees crystal clear water in the pond.
  • Aerator (compressor). The device saturates the water with oxygen. Relevant in the pond with fish and plants. It is important to choose a model specifically for the pond, models for aquariums do not have the necessary power. You may need to use an excavator to dig the pit.

Plants and additional accessories

As a decoration, you can install a decorative fountain in the pond. The design can be bought ready-made or built independently. A decorative pond is often supplemented with bridges. garden figurines up close perfectly complement the composition. Flowers and plants in the pond require special attention. Plants are divided into deep water and shallow water.

The first are planted at the bottom in special baskets. They should occupy no more than 30% of the total area of the reservoir, otherwise it will turn into a swamp. Such a bust can kill other inhabitants of the reservoir, especially fish. Carefully plant flowers on the coast, keep in mind that they will grow over time.

First of all, nymphs are planted in the pond, and then the bottom is covered decorative stone starting from the deep zone. On the terrace you can plant marsh calla, calamus, sedge, chastukha and susak. On the water surface, you can place a water hyacinth, rogulnik, pistia or a swamp.

On the shore you can place various types of iris, reeds, buzulnik, aruncus, miscanthus. The composition can be supplemented with perennials: hostas, buttercups, primroses, astilbes or bathing suits.

Peltiphyllums, loosestrife, Rogersia look great near an artificial pond.

Do you need fish?

The reservoir can be inhabited by different fauna. Ducks and even swans can live on the pond, it all depends on you. Most often in country ponds fish live. The choice of inhabitants of the reservoir should be taken carefully. Most often, crucian carp, goldfish, carps and tench become inhabitants of the ponds. Keep in mind that one fish up to 15 cm in size needs about 50 liters of water space.

This article discusses in detail the types of reservoirs that can be located on garden plot, ways of their device. It also contains recommendations on how to build a natural reservoir into the chosen style if it is located on the site or passes along its border.

Almost all styles of landscape design involve the presence of a reservoir. Great option can be considered as an area on the territory of which there is a natural reservoir. It can be a river, a lake or just a small stream. Such reservoirs fit very organically into any of the existing styles of landscape design. To do this, you just need to follow some rules, remember the basic principles of style that make it recognizable.

If there is no such reservoir, then it is worth thinking about the device of an artificial one - a pond, stream or fountain. Even a small artificial reservoir, of course, will enliven the landscape, create the necessary atmosphere, improve the microclimate of the site.

You can read about how to make an artificial pond on the site in the article "Do-it-yourself pond in the country". There are detailed instructions, the main technical points, the advantages of certain materials that are used in the work.

But how to integrate an existing reservoir into the created landscape, what type of reservoir should be chosen and how to diversify the "water world" of the site, it is necessary to consider in more detail.

It is clear that the type of reservoir depends on the chosen style. The shape of the reservoir and the design of the coastline, the choice of green spaces, decorative elements, lighting and much more depend on it. And if there is a natural reservoir on the site, then sometimes the style has to be chosen for it, and not vice versa.

French (regular) style

Since the very idea of the French park is to demonstrate the dominance of man over nature, the reservoirs are drawn up according to very strict rules. For both natural and man-made reservoirs, a clearly defined shore line, a parapet, and wide stone steps with flowerpots along the edges will be required. It is possible to arrange an artificial island on which a stone gazebo or sculptural group will be located. Regular style implies the presence of fountains.

Basic rules for arranging fountains in a regular park:

  1. Before determining their location, it is worth remembering about symmetry. If you plan to install one fountain, then it should become its center. If there are several fountains, they should, like all elements of a regular park, be located strictly symmetrically and be paired. Fountain structures must be designed in such a way that water jets fall along strict, well-defined trajectories without violating the overall symmetry.
  2. If fountains are part of sculptural compositions, then they should give them dynamics without distracting attention.
  3. If jet fountains are chosen, the main emphasis should be placed on the beauty and power of the water flow.

When planning a garden french style, engineering issues - plumbing, power supply must be carefully thought out in advance. Also, even at the initial stage of planning, it is necessary to determine the shape and power of future fountains.

English landscape style

It does not impose such strict requirements on the existing reservoir. It's best to just beat the existing coastline without trying to level it. A stylized dilapidated staircase can become a descent to the reservoir. It is best to plant the shore with shady trees with crowns hanging over the water. Plant plants on the water surface - lilies or water lilies. However, do not forget that the reservoir, like the entire English park, must be truly well-groomed. And the impression of neglect is just a stylistic device.

Pond - practically required element English park. You can style it using the same techniques as for a natural reservoir. If the decision is made to revive the design with a fountain, then in addition to static fountains located on the ground, it is worth taking a closer look at the so-called floating fountains. They are most often arranged on the surfaces of artificial ponds. The jets of such fountains can be "dynamic", capable of changing direction, shape and size. For an English pond, a simple nozzle on the fountain pump will suffice.

But for a French park or baroque garden, you can purchase a more powerful installation. For example, these are produced and sold in our country by the German company MESSNER.

baroque style

This style will allow you to realize the most daring "water" fantasies. The descent to a natural reservoir or pond can be arranged with a large water cascade made of expensive stone. On the surface of the water, you can arrange an island, which will be connected to the shore by a richly decorated bridge. You can surround the island with a "ridge" of high-jet fountains with powerful illumination.

There are no excesses in this style. Do not forget about the gilding in the design of reservoirs, expensive statues and sculptural groups.

The Baroque style, like the French one, involves careful design when constructing reservoirs. Especially fountains and water cascades. After all, the fountain will become truly impressive only with high power equipment and water flow (at least 100 l / min). Only in this case, the water jets will not change the trajectory of the fall, even with a strong wind. This is where the rose of winds blowing on the site, determined at the initial stage, comes in handy. When planning a fountain or cascade, you should choose the place that is most protected from side wind.

Very interesting find can become a water curtain. There are several ways to set it up. From the simplest - the device of a uniform waterfall from a canopy or roof of a grotto to a modern one, using polymer threads that allow you to create a water curtain around the gazebo and even the whole area.

The baroque style does not imply the arrangement of playgrounds. But you can please the kids and not only them by arranging the so-called cracker fountains. Since the time of Peter I, they have been delighting guests of Peterhof.

The “cracker” device will cost quite inexpensively if an automatic irrigation system is provided on the site. Such fountains are located near the benches, on the sites of the zones. It is very important that there is enough free space around the cracker. This is necessary for a safe “retreat” from water that suddenly splashed on a person.

The strength of the cracker fountain jet should be minimal, which will not wet even a slow person. For this, special nozzles-dissectors are installed. When designing, it is worth considering a drainage system, especially if the fountain is not alone and is often used.

Fountains are also arranged when decorating a romantic garden and a high-tech garden.

romantic style does not involve large and complex fountains and waterfalls. A simple water curtain over a cozy grotto, a small bowl-fountain with a weak jet is quite enough.

For high-tech style, manufacturers offer the most complex and very interesting design solutions in which digital technologies are used to adjust the system, and modern materials are used in design.

The main thing to know about fountains is that they consist of three main components:

All of them must be matched to each other. The long-term and trouble-free operation of the system depends on the correct selection.

All other structural elements are additional and serve to decorate the device, or simplify its operation.

Country style

The easiest and easiest way is a natural pond to fit into a rustic style. Any river, lake or stream will become a natural continuation of landscape design in this style. You just need to dream up a little with the arrangement of benches, footbridges, planting fruit trees or the construction of a coastal mini-garden.

When constructing a pond, you should not spend much effort on decorating the coastline. The shores overgrown with reeds and sedge will look quite stylish. Simple bridges can lead to the water, from which you can draw water or fish in silence.

Artificial streams or springs can become very popular types of reservoirs in a rustic-style garden.

The stream is an artificial conduit, decorated along the bottom and slopes with pebbles and stones, which is given a certain slope and direction towards a pond or natural reservoir.

The spring is a kind of "fountain" rustic style. When constructing it, it is very important to maintain the style of a natural spring. The water in it can be either running, if it is used for drinking and household needs, or move in a closed cycle, using a pump.

A well of such a shape and type, which are accepted in that countryside, which is chosen as the standard for garden design.

Eco style

Since this style does not involve interference with the natural landscape, it is best to use what is given by nature. A natural reservoir can only be slightly improved, providing a convenient approach to the water. Only what grows on the shore can be used in design so as not to disturb the ecosystem.

From artificial reservoirs, you can arrange a well. But no automatic devices and it is not recommended to install backlights on it.

Ethnic style

It implies the design of the coastline of a natural reservoir or the device of artificial ones according to the style of the selected ethnic group. In order to do this as correctly as possible, it is necessary to seriously study how reservoirs look in that part of the world, in the style of which landscape design is made out.

Special talk about fantasy gardens. Since they are arranged not only on the banks of rivers or lakes, but also in wetlands, you will have to seriously work on the reservoir to include them in the general gloomy and mysterious world fantasy and the Middle Ages.

General recommendations for the arrangement of fantasy-style artificial reservoirs are to carefully bring their design, size and appearance to the chosen “theme”. To do this, it is worth studying in more detail the source of inspiration - a book, a film, illustrations for a medieval manuscript. It depends on this whether this or that reservoir can be located on the site and how it should look.

Alpine gardens

For an alpine garden, a natural reservoir should become a natural and logical conclusion to a cascade of alpine slides, waterfalls and streams. All water must go into it. The coastline is formed by boulders and pebbles. The created artificial landscape must be as close as possible to the natural mountain landscape.

Olga Dabul, rmnt.ru

Before you start building a pond, carefully inspect the site. Perhaps it already has natural depressions, depressions, pits or hollows. Use them to create a reservoir - this will allow you to preserve the relief as much as possible, which means it will allow the territory to look harmonious.

If you place a pond near the house from the east or south, this guarantees it good natural light during the day. In addition, proximity to home is useful if there are children in the family - the water zone has always been an area of increased attention.

Proximity to trees can lead to some problems: tree roots can damage the walls of the reservoir over time, and fallen fruits and leaves will regularly pollute it.

The artificial reservoir looks very beautiful and harmonious Alpine slide or rockery. In this case, both the hill and the pond can be decorated with stones of the same shape.

Pond

At its core, it is a reservoir that was created after the natural watercourse was blocked. So, a pond may appear after the construction of a dam in the path of a small stream or river. In suburban areas, such a natural flow is a rarity, and therefore almost any body of water with stagnant water is called a pond today.

It can also be anyone. When choosing it, it is worth considering the style of the garden, the location of the water area, and the existing relief. A pond can be either of a strict geometric shape (rectangular, round, square, etc.) or have a free (natural) shape. In some areas, cascading ponds look good, creating a special atmosphere.

The depth of the pond can be any - from a few centimeters to several meters. But if you are going to start fish in it or grow plants that will winter in a pond, consider their depth requirements:

For plants - 0.3-1 m;
for fish - 1.8-2 m.

Do not place the pond near a garden or flower bed, as fertilizers or pest control products can be carried by wind or rain into the water.

Fountain

The fountain allows you to escape from the bustle of the city and dacha troubles. It not only looks beautiful on the site, but also fills the water with oxygen and increases the humidity of the air around.

There are 2 main type fountains:
1. submersible,
2. stationary.

The first is most often used by placing a fountain in a pond. The pump pumps water directly from the reservoir and transfers it to the fountain - and so on in a circle.

The second type of fountain can act as independent element site. Such options look very interesting and beautiful: girls with jugs, flowers, water mills - all these are models of stationary fountains.

- this is a serious structure, the creation of which requires the following elements:
pump;
container with water;
fountain fixture.

The fountain can be placed both independently and in combination with a pond. When choosing a place for it, keep in mind that it should be clearly visible from all sides, but at the same time, the fountain should not interfere with the passage to other elements of the site.

The strength of the water jet depends on the power of the pump, and its shape and beauty - on fountain head. The latter, by the way, can be chosen from the widest range: a jet, a bell, a tulip, a spinner - each of them is able to create a special mood.

popular today and floating fountains. They are great not only for artificial, but also for natural reservoirs. They look very interesting and unusual.

The proximity of the fountain to the house also depends on the size of the first: the larger the fountain, the further it is located from the main building.

There are options for fountains without jets, when water overflows over the edge of the bowl or flows out of a wall or vessel. The notorious pissing boy can be attributed to the same type of fountain.

Looks no less interesting in the garden mascaron- this is a kind of mask in the form of an animal head (for example, a lion) or a human face, in which there is a hole for water to escape. From the mascaron, the flowing water enters the reservoir, and then, thanks to the operation of the pump, it again enters the mascaron.

Modern fountains look great with evening lighting. LED strips and light bulbs can turn any corner of the garden into a fairy tale.

Waterfall

Water falling from a height gives peace not only to the seer, but also to the one who hears it. In addition, the waterfall perfect solution for those who live near the road: it is better to listen to the sound of falling water than the rumble of cars.

By the way, noise level waterfalls can be predicted: the higher the waterfall, the louder the sound. Take this into account when setting it up. Be aware of the influence of the strength of the stream: a thin stream and a powerful stream of water will have a different volume level.

An important element of the waterfall is the pumping system. Choose the one that allows you to adjust the power of the water supply.

Feng Shui experts say that the noise of falling water not only charges the surrounding area with positive energy, but also drives away evil forces from the site.

Several small fountains form cascade. Such fountains can vary in size, and the composition, in turn, can look very harmonious and natural. You can achieve the effect of a cascade with the help of stones, or you can then let it go through the bowls, placing them at different levels.

Excellent place for a waterfall - an inclined surface near flowers or shrubs. It must have free access. Install a bench or gazebo near the waterfall, and you can plunge into the world of nature at almost any moment. Families with children can install at such water zone figurines fairytale heroes and beautiful lighting.

Spring

In Europe they call disappearing waterfall. In fact, this is a reservoir that does not have a mirror water surface. A submersible pump and a water tank are placed underground, and a fountain nozzle is brought to the surface of the earth. The best fountain nozzle for arranging a spring is a "geyser".

Arranging a spring is an excellent solution for families with children or owners of small plots where it is not possible to place a large reservoir. The spring will look great both on a paved area and in the shade of a garden, and even on a lawn.

Creek

A stream is a narrow watercourse with a meandering channel. The more natural the equipped channel looks, the more profitable the stream on the site looks.

A large number of bends, overflows and other obstacles allow you to create the most natural movement. But the straight line of the stream over time makes it look like an ordinary ditch.

You need to place a stream near a pond or other body of water from which water will be supplied using a pump. The speed of the water flow depends on the width of the channel itself, as well as on the angle of its inclination. The greater the angle of inclination, the higher the speed. On the plain, the stream becomes wider, but slower.

A well-planned stream is considered to have water flowing towards the observer.

The stream is designed correctly and competently, even if the channel looks attractive and harmonious even after turning off the pump.

If the stones near the stream are smeared with ordinary kefir, then they will quickly become covered with moss, giving a completely new look to the watercourse.

If the stream turned out to be quite wide, you can throw a beautiful bridge or a large boulder over it. So an artificially created watercourse will not be an obstacle for those walking around the site.

From the video, learn how to competently build a stream on your site.

decorative swamp

Such reservoirs are becoming more and more popular in modern sites. may be the only body of water on the site, but it looks best in the company of a pond or stream.

The depth of this reservoir should not be very large, because the plants intended for it have a superficial root system.

For a decorative swamp, it is important to choose the right plants and take into account all the nuances of its arrangement, paying special attention to waterproofing. When decorating such a reservoir with stones, the appearance of neglect and disorder is allowed. But laying out boulders one by one (like a thread) is not worth it - the appearance of such a structure will be very unnatural.

When decorating a swamp, use stones that differ in size, but are similar in color and texture.

mini pond

mini pond- a frequent guest of modern sites. If the owners want to enjoy the view of the water surface, but there is no space, strength or opportunity to equip a full-fledged pond, they choose its mini version.

Such a small reservoir occupies a minimum of territory - to create it, you can bury a bathtub, a barrel or even a basin in the ground. It remains only to arrange the banks and plant the appropriate plants along the edges. If desired, you can make a composition of several small tanks.

Small ones fit containers and for those who want to grow in a limited space aquatic plants. It is only important to remember about the wintering of these specimens too - it is enough to transfer the containers themselves to a real reservoir or the basement of a house.

In such a small pond, you can even equip a mini-fountain. Its variety is considered bird drinker- a bowl on a leg, into which fresh water is regularly added.

You can not install a mini-pond in the sun - the water will heat up too much and bloom, it will have to be changed often. And if you place the container in the shade, you can even breed goldfish in such a mini-reservoir.

From the video you will learn how to easily and quickly make a mini-pond on your site.

Pool

The pool differs from other bodies of water in its function - it was created not for contemplation or breeding fish, but for swimming.

To make this area beautiful and original, the owners decorate the walls and bottom of the reservoir. And next to the pool they create a comfortable place to relax with sunbeds, tables.

walking area by the pool will protect it from excessive pollution with branches or foliage, and shrubs planted along the perimeter of this zone will hide the territory from prying eyes. The modern industry offers the widest range of equipment and accessories necessary for swimming pools.

Many summer residents do not stop at arranging clubs, flower beds and mixborders on household plots. A do-it-yourself pond in the garden is the crown of original design art. It is important here not only to know how to make a pond, a decorative swamp or a stream in the garden. It is very important to imagine how to arrange it correctly so that your pond does not become a banal refuge for tadpoles, but is the pride of the site.

Design of artificial decorative ponds in the garden

Before making your own garden pond, determine which style of water device will best suit your garden. If a pronounced geometry can be traced in the architecture of the house and the organization of the space surrounding it, and stone is used in the decoration for facing the facades, it is appropriate to organize a formal reservoir from it. It can be a lake with a fountain, a canal that effectively cuts through beautiful paving, as well as a wall fountain like a mascaron.

If the house is closer to the country style, the design of garden ponds can be made in the form of a quiet stream or pond that looks like a natural one. But a small pond of simple geometric outlines is also suitable.

The design of a reservoir in a garden of regular geometric shape can be not only part of a composition made in the classical spirit, but also a fragment of a landscape idea. A successful mixture of styles sometimes gives amazing results, for example, lush vegetation will soften the strict impression of a reservoir of regular geometric shape. A beautiful sculpture on the shore of a decorative pond in the garden will give this place a special mood.

Arrangement and design of ponds in the garden

When arranging a pond in a garden, remember that water can act in two ways - standing, forming a horizontal surface and creating an atmosphere of relaxation and peace, or moving, murmuring, maybe even noisy, these are streams, waterfalls, fountains, giving not only visual, but also sound effects.

How to make a reservoir in your garden and how does the arrangement of all these garden mini-arteries differ? From a technical point of view, all ventures with moving water are closed cycles in which water moves in a circle. Most of it is stored in a storage tank, the role of which can be played by a pond, a fountain bowl, even a barrel dug into the ground, disguised with stones laid on a grate, and a pump gives it movement, delivering it through a hose to the right place at the right height, from where the water flow drains and re-enters the storage tank.

A do-it-yourself fountain in a garden is an element of a regular layout; there are no fountains in nature, but a fountain in the form of a beating key or a bell in a tiny pond looks charming. The smaller the fountain, the closer to the house or to the place of rest it should be, you should not plant plants near a large fountain.

It is logical to do a waterfall or a stream in a garden with your own hands if there is at least a slight difference in height. The movement of water can also be arranged on a completely flat area by organizing a slight slope.

Artificial reservoirs in the garden not only decorate the site, but also connect various garden compositions, they are able to enliven any landscape, surprisingly they are near the recreation area.

Look at the photo of garden ponds: the cool smooth surface of a pond, the murmur of a stream or fountain, the rustle of miscanthus near the pond, the play of dragonflies and water striders, the movement of a flock of goldfish - staying in such a place will allow you to relax, think calmly, let forget all problems for a while.

The optimal size of the pond in the garden

Are there ideal sizes of the pond on the site and the shape of the reservoir? Definitely - no. A waterway that looks wonderful in one garden may look ridiculous in another environment, next to another house. Do you have enough space to fit a pond of a minimum size of 3 m2, because only with such an area in the pond can biodynamic equilibrium be established, that is, water can purify itself? When arranging a reservoir in the garden, its location and size should be considered very carefully. Where should you plan it in the garden? If you arrange a pond in an open sunny place, algae will begin to flourish there. Nymphaeums will not bloom in deep shade, which should be illuminated by the sun for at least 5 hours a day. It is important to design the pond in an aesthetically pleasing location. The tree branches hanging over the water are very picturesque, but in the summer you will have to regularly remove the leaves falling into the pond that clog it, and in the fall you will cover the pond with a fine mesh.

Before you make a pond in the garden with your own hands, you should think about which side the approach to the reservoir will be from, because the entire coastal zone should be available to care for it. When designing ponds in the garden, you need to take into account that this is a decoration of the garden, it is good if it is visible from the house. Near the reservoir there should be a place to rest, at least a bench, sitting on which you can admire the life happening in the pond, dragonflies, fish, aquatic plants. A path should lead to the bench, from the bench it should open best view to the pond.

The optimal size of a pond in a garden should be such that its area is proportional to the area of the garden and the house, not too big and not too small. If the made reservoir turned out to be too small, there is a trick with which you can try to correct the situation - attach another one to the already made pond, laying a bridge along the border between them so that the two ponds look like one. At the same time, it is very convenient to swim in one, and in the other, for example, to breed nymphs.

How beautiful to arrange an artificial pond in the country in a plastic form

It seems to beginners that making a pond from a finished plastic mold is easier than a pond using flexible waterproofing. This is an illusion. At first, the molds seem huge in the store, but after they are installed in the ground, they look about half the size, and when filled with water, they look very tiny. Such containers are good for raised reservoirs of clear geometric shapes, for installation on slopes.

The most durable plastic forms for a pond are fiberglass structures, they are not inferior in strength to reinforced plastic containers, but the edges of the latter can be deformed if the structure is not provided with a reliable external support to the ground. These forms are imported and quite expensive. Containers made of ordinary plastic are cheaper, but they are not rigid enough, often have deformed edges, and their dimensions are small. Only black forms are suitable for reservoirs.

Often, plastic molds for a pond in a country house are deformed after filling with water, this is due to improper filling of the gap between the wall of the pit and the wall of the mold with soil.

Correct way to do this: horizontal base pour 5-7 cm of sand into the pit, compact it tightly and install a plastic mold, then pour 10-15 cm of water into it, then fill the gap between the walls of the pool and the pit to a height of about 20 cm with sand, pouring it with water from a hose, or pour a mash of earth, sand and water into the slot and wait until the liquid mass hardens. Then pour another 10-15 cm of water, and into the slot - sand with water or a talker, repeating this until the pool is completely filled with water, and the slot is filled with sand or soil. As a result of these actions, the form will stand rigidly in the ground, and its coastline will be in a horizontal plane.

Water from plastic molds for an artificial pond never drains for the winter, this is an unnecessary and even harmful operation, in the spring an empty bowl will be squeezed out and crumpled.

The best way to decorate a pond in a garden, made in plastic form, is to decorate it with a rockery or a flowering retaining wall. In modern gardens, a pond is most often arranged, in which aquatic plants grow, fish and frogs live. The shape of a natural pond should be as smooth as possible. The smaller the pond, the less there should be all kinds of bends, which is why reservoirs in rigid forms look so unnatural, the “shores” of which are excessively indented and resemble figured cookies rather than a natural structure. If such a reservoir turned out, the thoughtful planting of plants that camouflage the unnaturalness of the coast, in plastic form, can improve the situation. Do not forget that an excessive number of coastal plants, especially large ones, visually significantly reduces the size of the reservoir.

Another difficult task is the design of the banks of garden ponds: a lawn can come close here, in some places of the coastal zone you can plant coastal plants such as loosestrife, loosestrife, marsh and Siberian irises, daylilies, etc. The choice of coastal plants is inexhaustible, your taste, ennobled the study of nature and the best examples - that is your judge.

In the process of how to decorate a pond in a garden, remember that there should not be a lot of vegetation around a geometric pond, one large architectural plant is enough, for example, a curtain of marsh iris or a large hosta.

Look at the photo, how to beautifully arrange a pond in the garden in regular style: around it, sheared shrubs and plants in containers are quite logical, if there is no fountain, you can plant a nymphaeum.

How to make and decorate a pond with an island in the garden with your own hands

To create an island, you first need to remove the soil, as when creating a regular reservoir, but in the intended location of the island, it needs to be removed less or even not removed at all. The edges of the island can be reinforced with stones, if necessary, and concrete mortar can be used to secure them.

Not a bridge can lead to the island, but a step-by-step path made of stones. In the place where it is supposed to be laid, the depth should not exceed 30 cm. The path should not be straight, but winding, but not excessively, it will be smooth and comfortable, so the stones for it are selected large and flat 10-15 cm thick. The surface of the stones should be at least 10 cm above the water level, they are laid on stands ( foundation) of concrete blocks or bricks. For each stone, its own individual stand is “built”, to which it is attached with concrete, the stand should not be noticeable, everything should look natural.

A good example of creating a large reservoir with a charming island is in the Moscow region. An artificial butyl rubber pond occupies a large part of the garden, the water surface area is about 250 square meters. m. It is made on a plot of about 15 acres, located in the middle of a dense birch forest, with a spacious one-story wooden house for permanent residence. The island can be reached by passing through a pretty bridge. During the arrangement of the garden, extra trees were removed, a lot of birch and alder were left.

As you can see in the photo, the shores of the pond in the garden, made by hand, are covered with flat white pebbles and various shades gray. The pavement of the house is made from the same pebbles. The paving of gray and gray-pink paving stones and the facing of the basement of the flagstone house are perfectly combined with it.

On the diagonal of the site in relation to the house, a bathhouse was built, built from the same materials and in the same style as the house. Bridges were built near the bathhouse so that you can plunge into the water after the steam room, in this place the pond is quite deep (1.6 m). Thanks to the pump, the water never freezes here, although people skate on the opposite side of the reservoir in winter.

You can freely move around the pond, you can admire it, not only walking along the path, but also contemplating the landscape from covered veranda houses and large windows of the rest room in the bath.

Pay attention to the photo how to arrange a pond in the garden: a calm, peaceful atmosphere can be emphasized by a few plants with foliage of an interesting shape and texture, except for birches. Also it can be deciduous shrubs(spireas, barberries), coniferous, decorative and deciduous perennials (hostas, ferns). White birch trunks brighten the area, make it elegant. Water, paving and stones occupy a large area, shrubs and ornamental perennials predominate among plants, so caring for such a garden is not difficult and does not require much time. Two pumps are installed under the walkways, forcing the water to move quietly, next to it are skimmers that collect falling leaves. Approximately once every two years, the water descends, the bottom and stones are cleaned of silt and settled debris.

Such a project is good for those who like to sit quietly, enjoying the impressions of the garden or some of its details.

Design of garden ponds with a photo: a decorative swamp

The soil in the swampy place is constantly waterlogged. A decorative swamp can be an independent undertaking, or it can coexist with a reservoir of landscape outlines. A swampy garden does not require abundant watering, and a little drainage will provide oxygen to the roots of plants. Marsh plants have a superficial root system, so its depth is small.

After the place for the swamp is chosen, remove the soil to a depth of 30-40cm. Close the resulting pit with a piece of durable polyethylene of such a size that excess material is obtained above the edges. Pierce the polyethylene at the bottom with a pitchfork, there should not be too many holes, the water should seep through, and not go away too quickly. Pour a small layer of gravel or small pebbles on top of the polyethylene, lay the hose on top and bring it out above the soil surface. Make a few holes every 10-15 cm along the gravel part of it. Plug the end of the hose in the ground with a stopper. Fill the hose with 5-8 cm of gravel on top. In a drought, you will turn on the hose weekly until the top layer of soil is saturated with moisture.

Place the excavated soil back on top of the gravel, removing weeds and adding compost or other organic fertilizer. After that, tamp and level the soil, cut off the protruding edges of the film and proceed to planting moisture-loving plants. After planting, water them from above, then use a buried hose to saturate the soil with moisture. When decorating a swamp, use not only stones, gravel, but also snags, mossy stumps, a slight mess and neglect are quite appropriate here.

How to make a stream in the garden with your own hands (with photo)

The stream in the garden looks nice, but you need to carefully plan everything, think over not only the location of the stream and the shape of its banks, but also its design. If we forget about poetry for a while, then a stream is a water "band" flowing between its beginning and end (source and mouth). An artificial stream can “flow” from under a large boulder or a crack in it, a pile of stones, a picturesque shrub will do, a waterfall can also be the source, technically it is just a disguise of a hose in order to give the impression of a natural source. The end of the stream is most often a pond, it can disappear under a large stone or a group of stones, under which there is a reservoir with a pump. You can arrange one or both ends of the stream so that they are “lost” in the garden. Of course, the stream is man-made, but it is quite possible to make it "natural", natural in appearance.

Before you make a stream, get all the necessary materials:

  • 0.5 mm or 0.8 mm black PVC film or much stronger and more reliable, although more expensive, butyl rubber (EPDM membrane), they can be glued and repaired with special tapes and adhesives if necessary;
  • sand or geotextile as an underlayment and shock-absorbing material;
  • submersible pump, which will be placed in the lower storage tank, the longer the stream, the louder its sound is planned, the more power the pump needs;
  • hose;
  • stones for decorating banks and channels;
  • plants for planting near the stream and in the channel itself.

The construction of an artificial stream is always based on the same principle: the pump pumps water from the reservoir pond, located at the lowest point of the water structure, to the highest point, from where the water flows down in accordance with the law of universal gravitation and the slope of the site. In order for the pump to function, it is necessary to bring electricity to it, that is, make a street outlet nearby.

See how great the streams in the garden, made by hand, look - here you can show all your fantasies:

How to make a waterfall in the garden with your own hands (with photo)

Any waterfall in the garden with their own hands is arranged on the shore of a water collector pond, into which water will fall, a submersible pump is installed at the bottom of the same pond.

Before you make a waterfall in the garden, you need to perform at a level of 15-30 cm from the water level coastal zone in which large stones will be laid. They must lie very stable, if this does not work without mortar, you can cement them. To increase the strength of the entire structure, you can first put a layer of mortar between the underlying material and the earthen wall, and then lay BK-rubber, then again the mortar and the foundation stones of the waterfall on it.

Then partially unroll the underlying material again and lay a flat stone over the foundation stones, from which the water will fall, so that its edge protrudes above them, and the water drains into the lower reservoir. This stone needs to be cemented and checked with a watering can if everything is done correctly.

Now, in the process of making a waterfall in the garden with your own hands, you can build a waterfall environment by laying stones around the weir stone, if necessary (to increase stability) attaching them to the lining material with mortar. To prevent water from seeping under the stones, a fold of lining material should be laid at the height of the spillway stone and fixed. The shores of the catchment pond are decorated with stones.

After the construction of the waterfall, you need to install a submersible pump, bury the flexible hose coming from the pump to a shallow depth, install a tap in the hose if you intend to regulate the water pressure, and decorate it. After that, you need to turn on the pump and test the waterfall, if everything suits you, you can cut off the excess underlying material and mask its edges with low coastal plants or stones and pebbles.

It is possible to build a “weeping” waterfall on a limestone retaining wall, folded without the use of mortar, laying a hose behind it, at the end of the hose the stream from it is divided into as many parts as there will be streams of the waterfall. At the bottom of the retaining wall, a water tank is made from a film or a small ready-made form is installed. Turning on the pump, we close the system, so the waterfall started working.

For the construction of a waterfall, you can use ready-made fiberglass forms, the appearance of which is close to natural stone, it is important to mask their edges by fitting them into the garden environment.

Below are photos of do-it-yourself waterfalls in the garden - ordinary and “weeping”:

Making garden ponds with a photo: how to make a fountain with your own hands

Making a fountain in the garden with your own hands is quite simple. It consists of a pump and a sprinkler through which water is ejected under pressure. The simplest sprinkler looks like a watering can nozzle. Other nozzles can create jets of water, foam, a spherical dome, etc. You can also connect a submersible pump to statues, for example, a metal heron with a hole in its beak or other decorations such as a jug or a huge boulder (natural or natural) with drilled hole, an old millstone is also suitable. Pressurized water will splash out or silently drain from them into the tank. Before you make a fountain in the garden, it is enough to dig a small water container into the ground, decorate it and connect a pump that “drives” water in a closed cycle.

It looks interesting in the garden mascaron, a decorative relief in the form of a human face or animal head with a hole for the release of a jet of water. A jet of water from the mascaron falls into a small reservoir and, with the help of a pump, returns to the "open mouth". Water structures built into the wall make rational use of space, are attractive, and emit a soothing murmur. They are organic not only for Italian gardens, but for gardens of any size in any country.

In addition to a purely decorative effect, the fountain enriches the water with oxygen, and also increases the humidity of the air in its immediate vicinity, which makes it more comfortable to stay around.

An autonomous pump that will pump water only to the fountain is turned on only as needed, turning it off at night or when leaving.

As you can see in the photo, for a do-it-yourself fountain in the garden, it is better to raise the pump a little above the bottom of the reservoir by installing it on bricks. If the submersible pump is not completely in the water, it may fail. Not only the appearance of the fountain and its sound are important. The pressure of the water and, accordingly, its melody can be adjusted.

Now that you have an idea of how to make a fountain in the garden with your own hands, you can try to put your knowledge into practice.
