  1. Table covers are cut from chipboard, chipboard or MDF. Begin work with marking and cutting out the middle cover.

To modernize a two-pedestal table, as the drawings show, it is necessary to get rid of the upper drawer of the right cabinet. If, due to the layout of the living room, it is more convenient for you to part with the drawer of the left cabinet, implement the project in a mirror. Another board is attached to this board with screws (5) at the end, the dimensions of which coincide with the dimensions of the box that was here earlier. Loops (3) are screwed from below, on which the thrust board (2) is fixed.

Board #2, when folded, should be in close contact with board #4, so that entry into the space freed from the box is problem-free. When extended, board No. 4 will act as an additional table, and board No. 2 will serve as a support for it. To avoid distortions, this plane should be tilted completely by 90 °.

Differences in retrofitting a single-pedestal table

As in the first case, you have to remove drawers. But this time it will not be cabinets located in the cabinet, but drawers located at the top of the table itself. Both boxes should be removed, and a horizontal cutout should be made on the left side of the box (1). The width of the opening should be equal to the thickness of the selected sliding board (3), which in the near future will become the plane of the elongated table.

The smooth sliding mechanism of the retractable board in the formed inner niche of the table will be given additional slats (8) installed in the direction of its movement. To prevent the board from falling out of its end, which is part of the furniture, 2 stoppers should be made. From the side of the second end to the retractable board at an angle of 90 °, a thrust board (4) on wheels (5) is fixed with squares (6). Board No. 4 is rigidly attached to Board No. 3, and when assembled, it fits snugly against the side wall of the table (7). In the place where the drawers (2) were previously located, a decorative plate is installed, after which the sliding furniture mechanism can be considered ready for use.

It is understood that the dimensions of your table may differ from what our drawings show. However, the measurements of all elements and the mechanism for re-equipping the table, presented in fig. 3 and 4 can be taken as a basis for the conversion.

The legs, of the same size, are interconnected by metal plates. In height, the connected legs should be 450 millimeters, and the width of the base should be 370 millimeters. Take two elements measuring 1180x125 mm and screw them to the bases. This is how the seat is made.

To prevent the boards from bursting, because they have a small thickness, before tightening the screws, make several holes of a smaller diameter approximately in the places where people will sit.

Take measurements of the first bench. Its width outside should be 1180mm, and inside 1140mm.

Proceed to the second bench. Its width is 1090x220 mm. For the seat, you will need 2 well-polished blanks measuring 1090x110 mm. For the legs you will need 8 blanks. Four legs should be 320 mm, two - 220 mm and two more 400x90 mm.

Attach a board to the rib with a wooden dowel, glue and self-tapping screws to a 220 mm beam. Do the same with another of the same bar. Assemble the prepared leg elements in the form of the letter “A”, where the upper part will be 220 mm bars, and the side elements will be 320 mm bars. Cut out the inner crossbar in the form of a spacer. Connect everything with screws and metal corners. The lower part of the letter "A" must have a distance of 300 mm.

Screw the seat elements to the A-shaped bases. When assembled, the width of the second bench should be 1090 mm, if you measure the seat and 1130 mm - the width of the legs. If you put two benches together, you get a large seat of four boards of the same height.

Some design elements

Now you need to build a back-tabletop. It is made from five blanks with a thickness of 80 mm, total area which is 1260x570 mm. To connect these 5 elements, use 2 bars measuring 570x40 mm. Connect the planks on the sides with these screws with screws, leaving 40 mm from the edge.

Attach two wooden thrust elements to one of the sides of the made tabletop-back. The thickness, length and width of the stop should be 20x400x100 mm, respectively. On one side of both stops, make a saw cut at an angle of 115 degrees. This will be the tilt of the back of the transformer bench. They are fastened with self-tapping screws to the inner sides of the backrest slats 140 millimeters from the edge.

Set the tabletop on the stops and press it firmly against the legs. Make a hole in the stop and vertical bar, the diameter of which should be 7 millimeters. Connect the elements with 80 mm furniture bolts. Install metal washers between thrust structures. The bolt heads should be hidden inside the tree, and not climb out, and the bolt connection itself should move, changing the angle of the back-tabletop. Try to move it to check the correct assembly.

Make levers from two blanks measuring 880x60 mm. They are attached on both sides of the bench number 1 and connect it to the back. The length of the lever, unlike the width, does not change for the specified bench dimensions.

Attach the levers to the legs of the bench and the plank of the back-tabletop with furniture bolts, after marking and drilling holes for them. On one side of the lever, a hole is made 50 mm from the edge, on the other, 10 mm. In the plank of the tabletop, 120 mm must be retreated along the length to the hole, and 10 mm along the height.
