How to give a second life to old things. Let's give things a second life! Drawers from an old chest of drawers

"Give things a second life" and in other areas!

The project launched by Vecherka in the Petrovsky municipal district has firmly entered the everyday life of St. Petersburg residents.

Evening Petersburg, with the support of the Petrovsky municipal district, launched the project “Give Things a Second Life” two months ago — a network of hangers for collecting things that are no longer needed by some, but may be needed by others. Now there are four points on the Petrogradskaya side: Kolpinskaya street, 10, Krasnogo Kursant street, 15/2, Gatchinskaya street, 22, Lakhtinskaya street, 30. The newspaper's employees closely monitor what is happening to them.

And I must say that this idea has already firmly entered into the everyday life of local residents - the shelves and hooks are not empty and at the same time the “range” of them is constantly changing. For example, Elizaveta Sergeevna, whom the VP correspondent found hanging a plastic bag with things on a rack, shared:

— You know, I have a big closet. It is crammed with things that I no longer knew where to put.

It's a pity to throw it away, but somehow it's not for me to sell it. Before... Oh boy, that was in the sixties! We used to have such a recycling point, but here, on Kolpinskaya, only by another garbage heap, it doesn’t exist now - they built it up. Un-official, of course. There was just a lot of free space next to the container. Removed unnecessary furniture. Some took out, others took.

Then the inhabitants set up tables there, on which they put their clothes. Then this dump was closed, and on others it was dirty. It's unpleasant to put it in there and take it out.

Vecherka is my favorite newspaper. And I'm glad that thanks to her, such shelves appeared. Everything is clean and tidy. I bring something every day. Be sure to wash and bring back.

And Elena admitted that she constantly looks at what appeared on the racks:

“At first it was awkward. And then I looked closely, things are clean, good. I work as a cleaner, there is not enough money for everything. And here I already found new clothes for the winter.

Igor Vasilievich brought not a new, but a working computer and even a monitor to it:

I bought myself a good laptop. And this coffin... It makes no sense to sell it. And here it can be useful to someone. Windows is there. No password. Plug and play. He served me faithfully for five years. I found out about the shelves on the Internet. I live on Gatchina. She is hidden in the yard, barely found.

Therefore, to help the townspeople, especially for Vecherny Petersburg, the 2GIS system - a free electronic directory with a map of the city - compiled a map of garbage sites where our useful shelves have already appeared and where there will still be.

  • Lakhtinskaya st., 32 (available)
  • Gatchinskaya st., 22 (available)
  • st. Lenina, 20 (in the project)
  • Bolshaya Zelenina St., 13 (in the project)
  • Ropshinskaya st., 25 (in the project)
  • Kolpinskaya st., 10 (available)
  • Pionerskaya st., 22 (in the project)
  • Monchegorskaya st., 7 (in the project)
  • st. Red Cadet, 15/2 (in stock)

Meanwhile, in the comments on our site there are also only positive reviews.

Andrey: “The idea is super, you give racks in all districts of the city! I wonder what areas are next? Personally, for myself, I would like the next to be Moscow.

Eila: “In Kupchino, I would have such a rack! I often have things lying around.”

Olga: “And we need to go to the Central District. There are books, things ... tired of leaving the containers!”

Citizen: “Thank you for covering this topic! An excellent initiative of the Petrogradsky district. We hope that it will be picked up by other districts of our city!”

So, Vecherka applies this proposal to the municipalities of other districts. It would be a wish!

Probably, many are familiar with the situation when money for redecorating is, but on new furniture- No. Or the furniture is so expensive as a memory that you don’t want to part with it, but it doesn’t want to fit into the interior in any way - the lamp doesn’t fit in style, the table doesn’t match in color, and it’s generally not clear what to do with the carpet.

Yes, even the family complain that this junk has a place, if not in the garage, then in the garbage. Here are some reasons why "an old friend is better than two new ones." A good argument for relatives, isn't it?

How to update furniture

  • Change color
An outdated thing is visible to the naked eye mainly due to the faded surface. If a thing is dear to you as a memory or it is not yet possible to buy a newer one, just update what you have. For example, with paint. If the interior is not monochrome, it is quite possible to update only the details. Alternatively, paint the drawers of the table. The table will become bright and eye-catching, but it will not look like workplace child.

You can also transform furniture or decor elements using a self-adhesive film, which consists of a colored side and an adhesive layer. Its principle of operation is the same as that of a conventional sticker.

A huge plus is that modern manufacturers offer a fairly wide range: wood imitation, material with a funny print, or just a plain canvas.

The film is very easy to cut to a suitable format, and you can paste over doors, chests of drawers (checked!) And much more. Moreover, it is very a budget option interior updates. You can, for example, thus add brightness even to a floor lamp. A big plus of stickers is that they can be easily peeled off. Did not work out? You can try again!

A table with painted drawers fits perfectly into the interior!

Stickers can be refreshed appearance single color nightstand.

The floor lamp matches the wallpaper perfectly!

  • Replace material
The appearance of furniture is often spoiled by shabby and faded upholstery. The best way refresh it - drag the fabric. Some do it on their own (and they succeed), while others ask the masters. The only thing you should make sure before starting work is that you are not going to give a new look to outright junk. Even if this is the chair in which your beloved grandmother once knitted the softest sweater in the world, it is not worth it. First of all, evaluate the convenience and reliability of the furniture, and then decide what to do with it.

And if the furniture is not worn, but its texture or color is tired? Sew covers! This is objectively easier than changing the upholstery itself.

In addition, you will have several options for “clothing” for furniture (winter and summer, festive and casual, plain and multi-colored). You can change the covers as you wish and wash them when they get dirty.

This chair will be a great accent in the living room.

Pay attention to the cover on the chair. Simple and tasteful!

  • Can be resized
You may have recently moved from old apartment into a new one and you still have a small table, which for new room too small. And there is not enough space for guests, and the dishes on the home buffet will not fit. What to do? Cut your legs - and beautiful coffee table ready for the living room! You can change the size of many items, including an ordinary carpet. If you cut it, you can make a decent rug in the hallway, a dog bed, or lay it under a rodent cage to prevent sawdust from flying around the house.

If the carpet is in decent condition, but just tired, cut it and bed in the loggia. In the warm spring and summertime it will be possible not only to walk barefoot, but also to organize a mini-nursery for the baby if there is no time to go outside with him.

The dining table can easily be turned into a coffee table!

This carpet fits perfectly into the interior due to its small dimensions.

  • Change the purpose of the item
Thanks to imagination, a small portable ladder can become an excellent bedside table. It does not look bulky, and its contents are visible at a glance. The only negative is that if there are children in the house, the order on such a nightstand will not linger for a long time. From old lamps you can create creative pots for plants. For example, paste over with colored paper and successfully fit into the interior. If the farm has old chest or a suitcase - it can be adapted as a table for the living room.

And inside to store something that is rarely required: for example, ancient magazine files that are a pity to throw away, but have nowhere to go.

Pay attention to the bedside table. Original, right?

Do you recognize the lamp in this flower pot?

    Treasure chest? No, for magazines!

  • Find a new place for things
Sometimes the lack of the right thing in the house is just a delusion. For example, it seems that in the hallway there is not enough small seat to comfortably tie shoelaces, and at this time the room proudly stands a chair that no one uses. If the old bedside table does not fit new bed, you can send it to the balcony, put your favorite flower pot on it, and store fertilizers in the nightstand itself.

A great solution for a table that is a pity to throw away. It's a pity not everyone has that much space in the hallway.

Before parting with furniture that has served your family long years and could serve as much more, think carefully! Maybe she's just in the wrong place? Or is she missing some paint?

Ask yourself, how else can it be applied? This great way save family budget and use it for more pressing needs. Share this article with your friends.

Perhaps they will also share with you secrets, thanks to which you can update the interior and save money!

On competition "Second life of things" photos and master classes on manufacturing are accepted , recyclables, household trifles, as well as your “life hacks” on non-standard use of various items in everyday life, will be published on this page. Read more about the conditions of the 2019 contests.

Recycled crafts are a fun way to get your kids creative without buying special kits or supplies. And such scope for fantasy and development of the imagination!

    Answer

Transformation of old things

Many things that were considered unnecessary for a long time can be transformed and become functional decor items, as well as complement the interior in an original way. And if not everyone decides to hang an old rake at home, then in the country they will look just in time.

Musical past

1. The second life of old guitars

A favorite guitar that has long been out of order or broken does not have to gather dust on the cabinet. If you add it internal shelves and, if desired, repaint inner part guitar, then it will make an excellent functional piece of furniture. Books, watches, small little things dear to the heart will fit here.

2. The case becomes… a neat jewelry organizer

3. Convenient shelf for storing small items

Door or shelving?

4. Now it's not just an old door

Some doors are completely short-lived, over time they have to be replaced. But even the old interior door can be reborn into a convenient rack. If it is to be used in a vintage or rustic style, then you can give it an aged look. Creativity space will give a door-rack bright color such as blue or red.

5. The bright door came in handy for storing country trifles.

6. Rack from an old door

Step on a rake

What good is enough in the country, so this is a rake. Sometimes there are so many of them that they go from the barn into the interior of the house. And it's quite convenient. You can use an old rake as a glass holder or railing in the kitchen. Stopping at one of these creative options must be remembered that in classic interior it will look ridiculous. But in interiors decorated in Provence, country and even loft styles, they will look good.

7. Rake instead of railing

8. Glass holder

9. Now the dishes are in order

Drawers from an old chest of drawers

Drawers from the grandmother's chest of drawers, with the inspiration and imagination of their owners, they will continue to fulfill their functional duty as another piece of furniture. For example, if you attach legs to a drawer and put it in the living room, then it will pass for a magazine organizer. And if you hang several boxes on the wall, after painting them in different colors, you get an attractive interior installation.

10. Beautiful installation from old drawers

11. Stylish magazine holder
