Mysterious cases that defy scientific explanation. Unexplained phenomena - supernatural and strange mysteries of the modern world

People have always been interested in various mysteries, mysteries and phenomena. It's all about human psychology, which explains the presence of a craving for everything hidden and new. It is difficult to argue that inexplicable phenomena on Earth are of a mystical nature, and scientists are tirelessly engaged in trying to understand the cause of existing phenomena.

Unexplained phenomena in the ocean

The depths of the sea have always attracted people and the oceans have been studied by no more than 10%, so many phenomena are still inexplicable, and people associate them with various mystical manifestations. Mysterious phenomena in the ocean are fixed regularly, so there are whirlpools, huge waves, luminous circles. It is impossible not to mention, called triangles, where people, ships and even planes disappear without a trace.

Whirlpool Maelstrom

In the Norwegian Sea near Vestfjord Bay, a modest whirlpool appears twice a day, but sailors are afraid of it, because it has claimed the lives of a huge number of people. Many inexplicable natural phenomena described in the literature and about the Maelstrom whirlpool, the work “The Overthrow into the Maelstrom” was written. It is also noted that once every hundred days the movement of the whirlpool changes. Scientists argue that the danger of the Maelstrom and the stories of people are greatly exaggerated.

michigan triangle

Among the well-known mysterious places not least is the Michigan Triangle, which is located in the north of America on Lake Michigan. It is clear that serious storms and storms can regularly occur on a large body of water, but even scientists cannot explain some disappearances:

  1. Describing the most inexplicable phenomena, it is worth mentioning the mysterious disappearance of flight 2501. On June 23, 1950, a plane flying from New York disappeared from radar screens. The wreckage of the liner was not found either at the bottom or on the surface of the water. No one was able to determine the cause of the accident, and whether any of the passengers survived.
  2. Another disappearance that could not be explained occurred in 1938. Captain George Donner went to his room to rest and disappeared. What happened, and where the person went, could not be established.

Glowing circles in the ocean

In different oceans, large rotating and luminous circles periodically appear on the surface of the water, which are called “Buddha wheels” and “devil carousels”. According to reports, for the first time such inexplicable natural phenomena were noticed in 1879. Scientists put forward many hypotheses, but it was not possible to determine the exact cause of the appearance. There is an assumption that the circles are formed by marine organisms that rise from the bottom. There are versions that this is a manifestation of underwater civilizations and UFOs.

Unexplained atmospheric phenomena

Although science is constantly developing, many natural phenomena still remain inexplicable. Many phenomena continue to amaze the minds of people, for example, various flashes in the sky, incomprehensible movements of stones, drawings on the ground, and so on can be attributed here. Scientists put forward many assumptions that could have provoked the mysteries of nature and other inexplicable phenomena, but so far they remain only versions.

Fireballs Naga

Every year in October, in the northern part of Thailand, fireballs with a diameter of 1 m appear above the surface of the Mekong River. They fly into the air and dissolve after a certain time. People who have observed this phenomenon claim that the number of such balloons can reach up to 800, and during the flight they change color. People explain such mysterious natural phenomena in different ways:

  1. Local Buddhists claim that Naga (a gigantic seven-headed snake) releases fireballs in honor of his devotion to the Buddha.
  2. Scientists believe that these are not mysterious natural phenomena, but ordinary emissions of methane and nitrogen that form in the silt. The gas at the bottom of the river explodes, and bubbles form, which rise up, turning into fire. Why this happens only once a year, scientists cannot explain.

The lights of Hessdalen

In Holland, near the city of Trondheim, in the sky of the valley, one can observe a phenomenon that is inexplicable today - luminous rays that arise in different places. In winter, flashes are brighter and appear more often. Scientists attribute this to the fact that the air is rarefied at this time. Studying incomprehensible phenomena, it was determined that the shape of the luminous formations can be different and the speed of their movement can be different.

Scientists have done a huge amount of research, and what is strange - the lights behaved differently, so sometimes the spectral analysis did not give any results, but there were cases when the radars recorded a double echo. To determine what these inexplicable phenomena are and what nature they have, a special station was created that constantly takes measurements. In one of the scientific journals, a hypothesis was put forward that the valley is a natural accumulator. The conclusion was made on the basis of the fact that the territory is concentrated large stocks chemical substances.

black mist

Residents of London periodically cannot move normally around the city, as thick black fog envelops it. Similar inexplicable phenomena on earth were recorded by scientists in 1873 and 1880. It was noted that at that time the mortality rate of the inhabitants increased many times over. For the first time, the indicators increased by 40%, and in 1880 dangerous mixtures with high level sour gas, which claimed the lives of 12 thousand people. The last time an inexplicable phenomenon was recorded in 1952. It was not possible to determine the exact cause of the phenomenon.

Mysterious phenomena in space

The universe is huge and man is mastering it with leaps and bounds. This fully explains that the most mysterious phenomena occur in space, and many of them are still unknown to mankind. Some phenomena refute many laws of physics and other sciences. Thanks to the use of new technologies, scientists find confirmation or refutation of some phenomena.

Satellite of the Black Knight

Tens of years ago, a satellite was recorded in Earth's orbit, which, due to its external resemblance, was called the "Black Knight". It was first recorded by an amateur astronomer in 1958, and it did not appear on official radars for a long time. US military experts claim that this was due to the fact that the object was covered with a thick layer of graphite that absorbs radio waves. Such mysterious phenomena have always been considered a manifestation of UFOs.

After a while, thanks to ultra-sensitive equipment, the satellite was discovered, and in 1998 the space shuttle took photographs of the Black Knight. There is information that it has been spinning in orbit for about 13 thousand. After careful study, many scientists have concluded that there is no satellite and this is a simple piece of artificial origin. As a result, the legend was dispelled.

Space signal "WOW"

In the state of Delaware, on August 15, 1977, a signal was drawn on a printout of a radio telescope that lasted 37 seconds. As a result, the word “WOW” was obtained, which caused this phenomenon, it was not possible to determine. Scientists have established that the pulses came from the constellation Sagittarius at a frequency of about 1420 MHz, and, as you know, this range is prohibited by international agreement. Mysterious phenomena have been studied all these years, and astronomer Antonio Paris presented a version that the hydrogen clouds surrounding comets are the source of such signals.

tenth planet

Scientists have made a sensational statement - found the tenth planet solar system. Many strange phenomena in space lead to discoveries after much research, so scientists were able to determine that there is a large planet outside the Kuiper Belt. heavenly body, which is 10 times more massive than Earth.

  1. The new planet moves in a stable orbit, making one revolution around the Sun in 15 thousand years.
  2. In its parameters, it is similar to such gas giants as Uranus and Neptune. It is believed that it will take about five years to conduct all the research and finally confirm the existence of the tenth planet.

Unexplained phenomena in people's lives

Many can say with confidence that they have encountered various mystics in their lives, for example, some have seen strange shadows, others have heard footsteps, and still others have traveled in other worlds. Unexplained paranormal phenomena are of interest not only to scientists, but also to psychics who claim that this is a manifestation of the inhabitants of other worlds.

Ghosts of the Kremlin

It is believed that in ancient houses the souls of dead people live, who during their lifetime were associated with this structure. The Moscow Kremlin is a castle that has a stormy and bloody story. Various assaults, uprisings, fires, all this left their mark on the building and do not forget that there was a torture chamber in one of the towers. People who have ever been in the Kremlin claim that supernatural phenomena are not uncommon here.

  1. Cleaning ladies are already accustomed to the fact that frightening voices and other noises are heard in empty offices. Situations when objects fall by themselves are considered the norm.
  2. Describing the famous inexplicable phenomena of the Kremlin, it is worth mentioning the most famous ghost of Ivan the Terrible. Often he walks lower tiers Belfry of Ivan the Great. It is believed that the ghost of the king appears to warn of some kind of disaster.
  3. There is evidence that periodically in the inner territory of the Kremlin you can see Vladimir Lenin.
  4. At night in the Assumption Cathedral you can hear children crying. It is believed that these are the souls of children sacrificed in the temple, which used to be located on this territory.

Black bird of Chernobyl

The tragedy that occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is known in different parts of the world. For a long time the information associated with it was hidden, but after that, evidence appeared that strange and inexplicable phenomena occurred before this event. For example, there is information that four employees of the station said that a few days before the accident they saw a strange creature with a human body and huge wings flying over it. It was dark and with red eyes.

Workers claim that after this meeting, they began to receive threatening calls, and at night they saw vivid and terrifying nightmares. When the explosion occurred, people who were able to survive after the tragedy claim that they saw how a huge black bird appeared from the smoke. Such inexplicable phenomena on earth are more considered delusions and stressful visions.

Near death experiences

The sensations that people experience before or during death are called near-death experiences. Many people believe that such sensations make a person understand that after earthly life other reincarnations await the soul. Strange phenomena associated with clinical death are interesting not only ordinary people but also scientists. The most typical sensations include the following:

  • unpleasant noise;
  • a tunnel at the end of which light is visible;
  • understanding of one's own death;
  • the feeling that the space has changed;
  • peace and tranquility;
  • meeting with people who have passed away;
  • feeling that the soul has left the body;
  • fear and desire to return to your body.

Such inexplicable phenomena on earth are not mysticism for scientists. It is believed that when the heart stops, hypoxia occurs, that is, a lack of oxygen. At such moments, a person can see specific. The receptors begin to react sharply to any stimuli and flashes of light may appear before the eyes, which many consider to be the "light at the end of the tunnel." Parapsychologists believe that the similarity of near-death experiences means that there is life after death and this phenomenon needs to be sorted out.

This article brings to your attention several paranormal phenomena, over which scientists and skeptics have been racking their brains for many years and cannot come to an unambiguous conclusion.

Taos rumble

Taos hum is a low frequency noise of unknown nature. This phenomenon got its name due to the city in which it was registered - Taos, New Mexico. In fact, such phenomena are characteristic not only for this small town: the appearance of inexplicable noises was noticed in different countries Worldwide.

Taos rumble audio:

Often, industrial origins are attributed to these sounds. And yet, the situation in Taos is somewhat different: only 2% of the local population hear the noise. In addition, people who have heard the Taos hum note that it is amplified inside buildings, and in the case of ordinary noises of industrial origin, it would be the other way around.

Basically, the nature of this phenomenon is explained in different ways:
1. Ordinary industrial or other noise produced by machines, acoustic systems and so on.
2. Infrasound, which may be of a geological or tectonic nature.
3. Pulsed microwaves
4. Electromagnetic waves
5. sound waves from low frequency communication systems (e.g. communications on submarines)
6. Radiation in the ionosphere, including that produced within the framework of HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program)
It is important to note that the source of the noises has not been definitively identified despite numerous studies by local universities as well as individuals.

Near death experiences

Near death experiences are common name for the personal experiences of people at the time of their clinical death. The following phenomenon may provide an answer to questions about the possibility of life after death. Many people who have survived clinical death claim that such life exists.

NDEs include physiological, psychological, and transcendental aspects. Although different people describe the events that happen to them after clinical death in different ways, many elements are common to all:

  • The first sensory impression is a very unpleasant sound (noise);
  • Understanding what is dead;
  • Pleasant emotions: calmness and tranquility;
  • Feeling out of the body, hovering over your own body and watching others;
  • Feeling of moving upward through a bright tunnel of light or a narrow passage;
  • Meeting with deceased relatives or clerics;
  • An encounter with a being of light (often interpreted as a deity);
  • Consideration of episodes of the past life;
  • Reaching a boundary or boundaries;
  • Feeling unwilling to return to the body;
  • Feeling warm despite not wearing clothes.

It is also known that in some cases the experiences following the seventh stage, on the contrary, are extremely unpleasant.
Communities of people who experience or study the paranormal are more open to interpreting near-death experiences as evidence for the existence of an afterlife. In turn, scientists often interpret this phenomenon as hallucinations or fiction.
In 2008, a study was launched in the UK that will study 1,500 near-death patients. The study will involve 25 hospitals in the UK and the US.

Doppelgänger - ghostly doppelgangers

In literature, doppelgangers (German doppelganger - "double") are the demonic counterparts of people, the opposite of a guardian angel. The appearance of a doppelgänger often heralds the hero's death. Although they are considered to be literary characters, there are several historical sources that indirectly prove the existence of these creatures.
One of these is the testimony of Queen Elizabeth I, recorded by the chronicler shortly before her death. According to the queen, she saw herself lying on the bed of her bedroom, more precisely, her double, who, according to her, was very pale.

Johann Wolfgang Goethe saw his own double, dressed in a gray suit trimmed with gold, while riding a horse in the direction of Drusenheim (Drusenheim). At the same time, the double was driving in the opposite direction. Eight years later, while traveling from Drusenheim along the same road, Goethe noticed that he was wearing the exact same suit as he had seen on the double.
It is known that Catherine II also saw her copy moving in her direction. Frightened, she ordered the soldiers to shoot her.
An unusual case of a similar nature also happened to Abraham Lincoln: the reflection he saw in the mirror had two faces. Being a superstitious person, Lincoln remembered what he saw for a long time.

Sudarius from Oviedo is a piece of cloth measuring 84 x 53 cm. with blood stains. Some people are inclined to believe that this sudari was wrapped around the head of Christ after his death, as mentioned in the Gospel of John (20:6-7). It is believed that both the sudarius and the shroud were used in the funeral ritual. In the course of the study, the purpose of which was to confirm or refute the authenticity of the sudarium, blood stains remaining on the fabric were examined. As it turned out, the blood on the king and the shroud belongs to the fourth group. In addition, most of the spots on the sudaria come from fluid from the lungs. This is explained by the fact that often people who were crucified did not die from blood loss, but from suffocation.

Voluntary reader's contribution to support the project

Supernatural and paranormal phenomena from time to time appear in the life of every person. Moreover, they disturbed the ancient minds, causing fear, misunderstanding. Previously, in this kind of miracles, people saw clean water mysticism and even witchcraft.

Modern science, on the other hand, lays out phenomena that are inexplicable at first glance on the shelves of ordinary physical laws and chemical reactions.

But the share of unsolved mysteries remains more than significant. The most interesting facts about the supernatural and the paranormal are in this article.

1. A mysterious phenomenon systematically occurs on the coast of Crete. Near ancient castle Franca-Castello before the tourists played out the events of the battle between the Turks and the Greeks. And they appear in the form of ... a mirage. A cloud of smoke or millions of droplets of moisture with a barely perceptible ringing of weapons and the cries of warriors moves from the embankment, and disappears near the walls of the castle. No one can explain the nature of such a phenomenon from a scientific point of view.

2. An unusual picture of Mount Ararat was taken in 1949 by American pilots. In addition to picturesque rocky ledges and a snow cap, they captured a strange object over the abyss. According to numerous studies conducted from satellites and aircraft, some scientists suggest that this is the mythical Noah's Ark. There is no single reliable opinion about the mysterious object on Mount Ararat.

3. Deja vu is familiar to everyone. But in most cases we cannot explain the nature of this feeling. The phenomenon was studied in more detail by psychologist K. G. Jung. At the age of 12, he saw an old statuette of a doctor of the 18th century, and the boy was impressed by the buckles on the doctor's shoes. C.G. Jung was sure that sometime (perhaps in past life) wore shoes with the same buckles. He could not logically explain his deja vu.

4. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln had a vision of his own death? This happened 10 days before the tragic incident. At night, the president heard sobbing from the lower floor of the house. He went down and found a body there. When asked who died, the answer was: “President. He fell at the hands of a hired killer."

5. In the Atlantic Ocean between the Falkland Islands and about. South Georgia is theoretically home to the Aurora Islands. Theoretically, because the captain of the ship "Atrevida" saw them and accurately mapped them in the 18th century. Half a century later, the islands disappeared without a trace.

6. Interesting Facts about the supernatural also concern natural phenomena. Many of them defy scientific explanation. You just need to believe in such miracles. For example, in the Shaanxi province of China, there is a waterfall whose waters do not freeze even in harsh winters. But in the summer, the stream can completely freeze in the air for a while.

7. In the Jatinga Valley (in Assam, India), an anomalous phenomenon occurs every year in August. Here every night a huge number of birds fall to the ground. What is happening and what affects the birds is not known. This place has already been dubbed the “Valley of Falling Birds”.

8. Not so long ago, scientists discovered similarities between the size and contours of Antarctica and the Arctic Ocean. The explanation for this anomaly is no less supernatural. It is believed that a large meteorite squeezed out part of the mainland (Antarctica) from opposite side Earth.

9. There are plants on our planet that are over 150 million years old. It's about about vulemi pines, the existence of which until recently remained a secret.

10. Do you know that the place on earth where lightning struck is called "thunder baldness"? In addition, for some time (a couple of minutes) it remains dangerous for all living creatures that have set foot on the territory of the bald patch. It turns out that lightning did not touch, for example, a person at all, but he can still suffer. Scientists cannot explain this phenomenon.

Almost all natural phenomena can be explained using physical laws and mathematical formulas.

However, there are still some places in the world that defy explanation. No matter how hard scientists try, it's all in vain.

The lights of Hessdalen

For decades, the locals in the Hessdalen Valley in Norway have lived in fear of mysterious lights. Often at night you can observe strange appearing lights in the sky, which move chaotically and even flash in different colors.

And this was observed not just by a few residents: for example, the phenomenon was confirmed by qualified researchers. But no one has yet been able to explain these light phenomena.

Of course, there were many theories about this, including the most incredible ones.

But at least one assumption more or less sounds plausible. This theory is related to the high radioactivity in that area. Presumably, radon is superimposed on dust particles, and when this dust flies into the atmosphere, the radioactive element decays, creating similar fires.

If this is true, then this is bad news for the locals, because it is dangerous.

Some scientists also suggest that the Hessdalen valley resembles a huge battery. mobile phone. It was found that one area of the valley is rich in copper deposits, another area is rich in zinc, and these elements are the main composition of the batteries.

This forms a certain acidity in the air, which can produce sparks in the atmosphere that look like an alien invasion. Also the river in the valley contains sulfuric acid because of the nearby sulfur mine. One way or another, all this remains only guesswork, but not facts.

Strange epidemic

The small state of Kazakhstan has every chance of becoming famous all over the world, but this is not something worth being famous for. This is a mysterious epidemic that is reported to cause fatigue, memory loss, hallucinations, and prolonged bouts of unexpected narcolepsy.

Over the past few years, hundreds of residents of the village of Kalachi (Akmola region) have already reported loss of consciousness. The problem became so serious that the authorities even evacuated the inhabitants of the settlement.

It should be noted that all the blood tests of the complaining people turned out to be normal, which leads to the following thought: the situation is similar to the usual mass hysteria. Perhaps it's just lazy residents who like to sleep at their workplace.

The main hypothesis of specialists is based on the fact that the inhabitants of Kalachi suffer from the consequences of radiation poisoning, since the city is located near a uranium mine. However, there are inconsistencies in such a theory: even closer to the uranium mine is a city in which residents do not complain about a strange epidemic.

Mystery of the city of Taos

If you've ever heard a TV hum or buzz electrical wires, then you know that these sounds just go crazy. So the inhabitants of Taos, New Mexico, USA, hear such sounds all the time.

Since the 1990s, the citizens of Taos have been reporting constant, incessant buzzing noises that are heard throughout the city, leaving people horrified.

For example, on the island of Borneo, similar similar sounds come from a local factory. But in Taos, not everything is so simple. In this small town, various researchers have been trying to find the source of the unbearable sound for more than 20 years without success.

Most of all, scientists adhere to the theory that the hearing of local residents may be too sensitive, because of which they are able to hear any subtle common man sounds.

Devil's Cauldron

In the state of Minnesota, USA, there is one phenomenon, over the solution of which scientists have been struggling for more than one year - this is the so-called Devil's Cauldron.

In this place, the Brul River flows over the rocks. Part of the river flows into the lake, and the other part falls into the pit. The mystery is that it is not clear where this pit leads. It looks like the water is going nowhere.

Of course, there are suggestions that water enters the system underground caves, but then it should still flow somewhere, for example, next to the lake. The catch lies in the impossibility of determining exactly where the water that has fallen into the Devil's Cauldron flows.

The researchers tried in every possible way to find out: they poured paint into the pit in order to observe where the colored water would end up. When that didn't work, the researchers launched ping pong balls, which also disappeared without a trace in the Devil's Cauldron.

So this place is fraught with an amazing riddle, the answer to which, perhaps, is somewhere nearby, or maybe not?

falling birds

Every year at the end of August in the Jatinga Valley, Assam Province, India, people gather, light bonfires and observe an unusual phenomenon. From early morning until late evening, flocks of birds take off into the sky, but they just try to sit straight into these red-hot fires. Without much difficulty, they can be knocked down with a long stick.

This phenomenon was first noticed in 1964. Over time, it turned out that similar cases were still observed in the Philippines, in Malaysia, in the Indian state of Mizoram.

So far, ornithologists prefer to stick to only one conclusion: young migratory birds can be disturbed by strong winds, so they fly into the light in search of salvation or shelter.

Unusual dune

IN national park“Altyn-Emel”, Almaty region, Kazakhstan, lies the Singing Dune, 1.5 km long and about 130 m high. The unusual feature of this mound is that in a dry state it can make sounds. These sounds may sound like weeping, an organ melody, or something else.

Moreover, the sand from this dune continues to “sing” if it is placed in any container and shaken.

There is a version that grains of sand can sound like this as a result of friction.

People around the world are witnessing strange and sometimes inexplicable paranormal phenomena. Our country is rich not only natural resources, but also strange places and mysterious phenomena. Today I will tell you about 11 of the most interesting and famous of them.

Astronaut meeting with UFO

The pioneers of space exploration had a hard time: the technologies of the beginning of the space age of mankind left much to be desired, so emergency situations arose quite often, like the one that Alexey Leonov encountered, almost remaining in outer space.

But some of the surprises that lay in wait for the space pioneers in orbit were not related to the equipment at all. Many returned from orbit Soviet cosmonauts talked about unidentified flying objects that appeared near the earth spacecraft, and scientists still cannot explain this phenomenon.

Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, cosmonaut Vladimir Kovalyonok said that during his stay at the Salyut-6 station in 1981, he observed a bright, luminous object the size of a finger, rapidly enveloping the Earth in orbit. Kovalenok called the crew commander Viktor Savinykh, and he, seeing an unusual phenomenon, immediately went for the camera. At this time, the “finger” flashed and split into two objects connected to each other, and then disappeared.

It was not possible to photograph it, but the crew immediately reported the phenomenon to Earth.
Observations of unknown objects were also repeatedly reported by participants in the missions of the Mir station, as well as employees of the Baikonur Cosmodrome - UFOs appear quite often in its vicinity.

Chelyabinsk meteorite

On February 15 of this year, residents of Chelyabinsk and the surrounding settlements observed an extraordinary phenomenon: a celestial body entered the Earth's atmosphere, which, when falling, was 30 times brighter than the Sun. As it turned out later, it was a meteorite, although various versions of the phenomenon were put forward, up to the use of secret weapons or intrigues of aliens (many still do not exclude such a possibility).

Exploding in the air, the meteorite split into many pieces, the largest of which fell into Lake Chebarkul near Chelyabinsk, and the rest of the fragments scattered over a vast territory, including some regions of Russia and Kazakhstan. According to NASA, this is the largest space object that has fallen to Earth since the Tunguska fireball.

The “guest” from outer space caused quite significant damage to the city: the glass in many buildings was shattered by the blast wave, and about 1,600 people were injured of varying severity.

The series of "space" adventures for Chelyabinsk residents did not end there: a few weeks after the meteorite fell, on the night of March 20, a huge glowing ball. It was observed by many townspeople, but there is no exact explanation of where the “second Sun” suddenly appeared from, and even at night. However, some believe that the ball arose due to the reflection of the lights of the city on specially located ice crystals in the atmosphere - that night Chelyabinsk was covered with thick cold fog.

Sakhalin monster

The remains of an unknown creature found by military personnel Russian army on the coast of Sakhalin Island in September 2006. According to the structure of the skull, the monster somewhat resembles a crocodile, but the rest of the skeleton is completely different from any reptile known to science. It also cannot be attributed to fish, and the locals, to whom the soldiers showed the find, could not identify in it any creature living in these waters. The remnants of animal tissues have been preserved, and, judging by them, it was covered with wool. The body was quickly picked up by representatives of the special services, and its further study took place "behind closed doors."

Now most experts are inclined to believe that these were the remains of some kind of cetacean, according to some versions, killer whales or beluga whales, but others object that the creature differs from both of them in its skeleton. As an alternative to the "accepted" point of view, one can name the opinion that the remains belonged to a prehistoric animal, which probably still survived in the depths of the oceans.

Seeing off the mermaid

Mermaids are one of the main characters of the Russian folklore. According to legend, these spirits living in water bodies are born as a result of the painful death of women and children, and rumor has it that meeting with a mermaid does not bode well: they often seduce men, luring them into the abyss of a lake or swamp, steal children, scare animals and generally behave not too decently. According to tradition, in order for the year to be successful and fertile, the villagers brought various gifts to the mermaids, sang songs about them and danced in honor of these restless souls.

Of course, now such beliefs are far from being as common as in the old days, however, in some parts of Russia, rituals associated with mermaids still take place. The most significant of them is the so-called Mermaid Week (also known as Trinity Week or Seeing the Mermaid) - the week preceding the Trinity (50th day after Easter).

The main part of the ritual is the making and destruction of a stuffed mermaid, accompanied by fun, music and dancing. During the Mermaid Week, women do not wash their hair to protect themselves from spirits, and men, for the same purpose, carry garlic and walnuts. Of course, at this time it is strictly forbidden to enter the water - so as not to be dragged away by some bored mermaid.

Russian Roswell

Rocket military range near the village of Kapustin Yar in the northwest Astrakhan region often found in reports of the most strange and inexplicable incidents. Various UFOs and other curious phenomena are observed here with surprising regularity. Because of the most high-profile case of this kind, Kapustin Yar was nicknamed Russian Roswell by analogy with the city in the US state of New Mexico, where, according to some assumptions, an alien ship crashed in 1947.

Almost a year after the Roswell incident, on June 19, 1948, a silvery cigar-shaped object appeared in the sky over Kapustin Yar. On alarm, three MiG interceptors were raised into the air, and one of them managed to knock out a UFO. The "Cigar" immediately fired a beam at the fighter, and it crashed to the ground, unfortunately, the pilot did not have time to eject. The silvery object also fell in the vicinity of Kapustin Yar, and it was immediately transported to the bunker of the landfill.

Of course, many have questioned this information more than once, but some documents of the State Security Committee, declassified in 1991, indicate that the military has repeatedly seen something over Kapustin Yar that does not yet fit into the framework of modern science.

Ninel Kulagina

During the Second World War, then Nina Sergeevna Kulagina served as a radio operator in a tank and participated in the defense of the Northern capital. As a result of her injury, she was commissioned, and after the blockade of Leningrad was lifted, she married and gave birth to a child.

In the early 1960s, she became famous throughout Soviet Union like Ninel Kulagina - a psychic and the owner of other paranormal abilities. She could heal people with the power of her mind, determine color with the touch of her fingers, see through the fabric that lies in people's pockets, move objects at a distance, and much more. Her gift was often studied and tested by specialists from various institutions, including secret scientific institutes, and many testified that Ninel was either an extremely clever charlatan or actually possessed anomalous skills.

There is no conclusive evidence for the former, although some former employees The Soviet research institute assures that when demonstrating "supernatural" abilities, Kulagin used various tricks and sleight of hand, which was known to the KGB experts investigating her activities.

Until her death in 1990, Ninel Kulagina was considered one of the most powerful psychics of the 20th century, and the inexplicable phenomena associated with her were designated the “K-phenomenon”.

Dragon from Brosno

Lake Brosno, located in the Tver region, is the deepest freshwater lake in Europe, but it is known to the whole world mainly because of the mysterious creature that the locals believe lives in it.

According to numerous (but, unfortunately, not documented) stories, an animal about five meters long, resembling something like a dragon, has been seen in the lake more than once, although almost all observers describe it differently. One of the local legends says that a long time ago, the "dragon from Brosno" was eaten by the Tatar-Mongolian warriors, who made a halt on the shore of the lake. According to another story, in the middle of Brosno, an "island" suddenly appeared, which disappeared after a while - it is assumed that it was the back of a huge unknown beast.

Although there is no reliable information about the monster supposedly living in the lake, many agree that some oddities do sometimes occur in Brosno and its environs.

Space Defense Troops

Russia has always sought to protect itself from all possible external (and internal) threats, and more recently, the defense interests of our Motherland include the security of its borders. To repel an attack from outer space, the Space Forces were created in 2001, and in 2011, the Space Defense Forces (VKO) were formed on their basis.

The tasks of this type of troops include mainly the organization of missile defense and the control of military satellites coordinating it, although the command is also considering the possibility of aggression from alien races. True, in early October of this year, answering the question of whether the East Kazakhstan region was ready for an alien attack, Sergey Berezhnoy, assistant head of the German Titov Main Test Space Center, said: “Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to fight extraterrestrial civilizations” . Let's hope the aliens don't know about it.

Ghosts of the Kremlin

There are few places in our country that can compare with the Moscow Kremlin in terms of mystery and the number of ghost stories that are found there. For several centuries it has served as the main citadel Russian statehood, and, according to legend, the restless souls of the victims of the struggle for her (and with her) still roam the Kremlin corridors and dungeons.

Some say that in the Ivan the Great Bell Tower you can sometimes hear the cries and groans of Ivan the Terrible, atoning for his sins. Others mention that they saw the spirit of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin in the Kremlin, moreover, three months before his death, when the leader of the world proletariat was seriously ill and no longer left his residence in Gorki. But most famous ghost The Kremlin is considered, of course, the spirit of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, who appears whenever shocks await the country. The ghost is cold, and sometimes he seems to be trying to say something, perhaps warning the leadership of the state against mistakes.

Black bird of Chernobyl(although not Russia, but also worthy of attention)

A few days before the infamous accident of the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, four plant employees reported seeing what looked like a huge dark man with wings and glowing red eyes. Most of all, this description resembles the so-called Mothman - mysterious creature, which allegedly repeatedly appeared in the city of Point Pleasant in the US state of West Virginia.

The workers of the Chernobyl station who met the fantastic monster claimed that after the meeting they received several threatening calls and almost everyone began to have vivid, incredibly scary nightmares.

On April 26, the nightmare happened not in the dreams of the employees, but at the station itself, and the amazing stories were forgotten, but only on a short time: while extinguishing the fire that raged after the explosion, survivors of the flames said that they clearly saw a 6-meter black bird that flew out of the clubs of radioactive smoke that fell from the destroyed fourth block.

Well to hell

In 1984, Soviet geologists launched an ambitious drilling project ultra-deep well on the Kola Peninsula. The main goal was to satisfy scientific research curiosity and verify the fundamental possibility of such deep penetration into the depths of the planet.

According to legend, when the drill reached a depth of about 12 km, the instruments registered strange sounds coming from the depths and most of all resembling screams and groans. In addition, voids were found at great depths, the temperature in which reached 1100 ° C. Some even reported a demon flying out of a well and a flaming "I have conquered" sign appearing in the sky after terrifying screams were heard from a hole in the ground.

All this gave rise to rumors that Soviet scientists drilled a "well into hell", however, many of the "evidence" does not withstand scientific criticism: for example, it is documented that the temperature in lowest point reached by the drill was 220 °C.

Perhaps David Mironovich Guberman, one of the authors and project managers of the Kola Superdeep Well, spoke best of all about the “well”: “When I am asked about this mysterious history, I do not know what to answer. On the one hand, stories about the "demon" are bullshit. On the other hand, as an honest scientist, I cannot say that I know what exactly happened here. Indeed, a very strange noise was recorded, then there was an explosion ... A few days later, nothing of the kind was found at the same depth.
