Painting walls with facade paint. Facade painting: why, how and with what to paint the facade? Painting and restoration of facade walls

By painting the facade of the house with your own hands, you can simultaneously solve two problems - improve or change appearance building and protect it from the adverse effects of the external environment. Independent performance of such work requires a serious approach and the study of all the nuances of painting.

How to choose the right paint for the facade

The decor of the facade of the building can be performed different ways, the most simple and affordable - painting. Outdoor work should be completed before the first frosty days, it is impractical to paint a house in winter, the paint will not adhere well and quickly peel off later.

What requirements should I pay attention to

When choosing a material for ennobling the front of the house, we naturally want to purchase a high-quality and durable product.

Among the requirements that facade paints must meet, three groups can be conditionally distinguished:

 • for high-quality and long-term operation;
 • for the aesthetic appearance of the building;
 • different technological parameters.

Operational properties

We list the properties of paint in terms of operation:

 1. UV resistant. The sun's rays should not become a factor that greatly destroys the paint. The coating of the facade should be done taking into account the constituent elements of the paint - its binders and pigment components.
 2. "Bandwidth". Vapors coming from some building materials at home, should not be “locked” with paint, otherwise moisture will accumulate under the paint layer, and the building will collapse faster.
 3. Good adhesion (adhesion) is one of the important parameters of the paint, which should prevent swelling, delamination, peeling of the top layer of the facade.
 4. Immunity to mechanical stress (minor impacts, scratches, etc. should not be visible on the outer facade coating).
 5. The paint should not instantly react to weather changes (increase / decrease in temperature, humidity, strong winds, rain, snow, etc.)
 6. A clean painted façade is every owner's dream country house, therefore, the paint should not actively “absorb” any pollution, then the owners of the building will not have to wash its outer surface all the time.

decorative properties

By choosing one color or another, you can radically transform the building from the outside, making it attractive and beautiful.

Aesthetic requirements for facade paint, in addition to the decorating role, are also associated with its reflective abilities. Matte or glossy paints look different and behave differently during operation.

Glossy paints are more suitable for covering facade elements, and not the entire surface, because this type of painting shows minor material defects more strongly, and also allows the building to "breathe" to a lesser extent. Glossy paint should be used to paint windows, decorating elements, doors, etc.

Best used for facade painting matte paint, especially if the areas are large and made with plaster. Semi-gloss color is best taken for wooden surfaces.

Technological properties

How to understand the technological indicators of paint? These characteristics include two concepts that complement each other - consumption and hiding power of the paint. It is clear that every consumer wants to apply fewer new coats to cover the old paint. The faster the old coating is “hidden” under the new paint material and the less paint it takes, the better.

On paint cans, manufacturers write about consumable properties, i.e. how much paint (in kilograms or liters) will be needed to cover one square meter area. In this case, we are talking about spending. Hiding power means the amount of paint for a beautiful and uniform decor of one square meter of surface (relatively speaking, how many layers are needed for good staining).

Considering the technological group of requirements for facade paint, one cannot fail to mention:

 • painting properties;
 • drying speed.

Paint performance indicators include ease of application, the ability to spread on the painted surface. Important parameters of the paint - its "adaptation" to the vertical application. When working on facade areas, which are mostly vertical, you need to take a paint with good thixotropy - the “ability” to become thinned under the action of a brush or roller and subsequent thickening. Simply put, the paint should fit well on a vertical surface and be held on it so that there are no drips.

The importance of drying speed when choosing a paint is not worth talking about. Every painter wants to work with fast-setting paint, the time for complete drying of which is minimal.

Types of paint for the facade

The modern chemical industry offers a wide range of facade paints.

Table: types of paints for outdoor use and their characteristics

Types of paints Main Components Characteristics
Acrylic (latex)By type of connecting elementAcrylic resinsThey have great versatility, they are easy to apply, and it is easy to care for such surfaces. Huge selection colors.
Minerallime, cementEnvironmentally safe, because they are natural. Their cost is much lower than other paints.
silicateBy type of connecting elementLiquid silicate glass + organic componentsThey have good air permeability, but at the same time they are not moisture resistant enough, so you should not use them on mineral surfaces.
Silicone emulsionOrganic silicon resinElastic, with excellent vapor permeability, has good protective properties (against mold, fungi and other microorganisms), suitable for all surfaces
Silicone modifiedAcrylateVapor permeable, resistant to ultraviolet rays
water solubleBy type of solventSynthetic resins, pigments, fillers, additivesAfter drying, the coating forms a wear-resistant film that can be washed. Such paint does not fade, you can get the desired shade, there are no harmful combustible substances in it, it almost does not smell, it is suitable for a changeable climate.
On solvents of organic originWhite spirit, solvent, xyleneThey are highly toxic, flammable, but these paints can be worked with sub-zero temperatures(up to twenty degrees) and high humidity (80%).

Acrylic, oil or water-based - what to choose depending on the surface

Having learned about the characteristics of facade paint, it is necessary to take into account another important indicator - the material from which it is made. outer part building to be painted.

The properties of the surfaces to be painted are different, so the paint must be chosen with this in mind.

Facade paints can be applied on wood, metal, plastic and mineral surfaces.

Table: facade paints for different surfaces

The main material of the facade Suitable paint types
TreeAntiseptic, acrylic, oil, alkyd, rubber
MetalOil, alkyd, acrylic. The paint material must have anti-corrosion properties.
PlasterLime, silicone, cement, acrylic (depending on the type of plaster). For some plastered facades, silicone paints are not applicable, because they prevent the passage of carbon dioxide.
ConcreteSilicone, polysilicon, acrylic, cement, compositions with a high content of alkyd are best suited.
BrickAcrylic, silicone, siloxane, lime, cement (depending on the type of brick)

Type of products, how and with what to properly dilute

Paints, in addition to the usual liquid form, can be produced in a dry and pasty state. Dry paints - cement - are diluted with water or special preparations before use. Such paints, unfortunately, can upset consumers with streaks and stains formed after doges or snow. This is due to the low resistance of such surfaces to moisture.

In the form of pastes, lime paint is offered to consumers. Dyes or water serve as diluting elements. Dirt and moisture are malicious enemies of facades painted with such paints. This is due to the high water absorption of these materials. But at the same time, neither fungi nor mold are afraid of such facades.

Which manufacturer is better

Arriving at the store and seeing a huge assortment of paints for facades, you can get confused. Paints differ not only in types and parameters, but also in manufacturers.

Consistently high quality products are offered by:

 1. ALpina (German company)
 2. Cerezit (Germany)
 3. Tikkurila (Finland)
 4. Dulux (England)
 5. Caparol (Germany)
 6. Beckers (Sweden)
 7. Derufa (joint production of Russia and Germany)

Photo gallery: facade paint manufacturers

Among Russian manufacturers we can distinguish the following names of paints:

 • parade;
 • Lacra;
 • Halo.

Many Russian firms use raw materials and technologies from well-known paint suppliers from Germany and Finland.

Alpina paints are highly adhesive, have good hiding power, facades with such a coating will last a long time without additional tinting.

Thermoplastic, well resistant to pollution - products of the company "Caparol". The paints of this manufacturer have low water absorption, which is an excellent property for exterior facade coatings.

Facade coatings from the Finnish Tikkurila are not only in demand by advertisers, they are really of high quality and have a whole set of useful properties: protect the painted surfaces from solar influence, moisture, well lay down on mineral surfaces. Best of all, they "go" on the already painted exterior parts of buildings.

Surfaces where acrylic finishing, mineral plaster was used are ideal objects for applying Ceresit paint. Facades painted with this paint practically do not absorb moisture, they will not require re-painting for a long time.

For concrete, brick, metal objects, the products of the Parade manufacturer are suitable. The painted surfaces are highly resistant to dirt and UV rays. The use of paint from this company is relevant in places with an unstable climate, with temperature and humidity fluctuations.

Many paint manufacturers not only produce different shades of painting products, but also offer customers colors - to give the products the desired color solutions.

If we compare the average prices of paints, they may vary depending on the type of material and region.

On average, you will have to pay for one liter of facade paint from one hundred and forty rubles for dry cement to five hundred rubles for silicone.

Customer Reviews

Here are the reviews of people from the Internet (punctuation and spelling are preserved).

I report I came to the obi, bought a bucket of caparol, tinted there and painted the first pediment :-) completed the second pediment, arrived in Leruy, bought a dufou, bought colors. lays down well (and this is on an almost very well smooth csp plate). consumption … uh … almost like stated on the bank. traces of sealant (which sealed the holes for the screws) are not visible. Matte Dufa paint - the coating (it cannot be called a film) is fragile, lays down normally when painting, but splashes more strongly than caparol. it wets even worse than caparol and covers the peeping gray only with the second layer (for caparol, after the first one, leave it at least like that) the expense is almost as stated, but much lower (for some reason). traces of the sealant are all in sight (darker) I am sad because of this.

I can note that among Europeans, CAPAROL and BECKERS deserve attention. But they all have strong positions in the assortment, but there are so-so. In each case, you have to choose. VN, in your case, I will advise you to opt for alkyd paint. Glossy or semi-gloss. Alkyd paints Some are for metal and some are for wood. When they say that alkyd paint is universal, do not believe it. Take an alkyd with fungicidal additives. By the way, BECKERS has them. For example, Tacklasyr and Oljefarg. Although, to be honest, their price / quality ratio is slightly violated. A year ago, ACE started importing good materials, but I still don't know much about them.

From my experience. Good silicone paint, costs good money. If the plaster is mineral, on cotton, then you need a paint with high vapor permeability and a water-repellent effect (silicone paints), do not get fooled by paints with silicone additives, this is a cross between silicone and acrylic - you need silicone paint. Good: Base Caparol Amphisilan, Baumit, Teknos. Teknos has colors originally declared as “resistant” to fading and recommended for the facade, they come in a separate catalog. As a result, I was made on the Baumit’s basis, but the color was according to the Caparol fan, using Caparol pigments. Nobody canceled painting - the paint looks different on the wall, spend money, do not spare money. Acrylic paints, IMHO, for interior work, either where they will not get wet, or on a water-repellent base (silicone plasters). Well, on a tree ... there are their own paints wagons... I don't know about the rest.

We painted last year with Caparol paint. One layer was paint with sand, the other was some kind of self-cleaning paint :) they painted it correctly, or the consumption is more than expected ... In general, if they knew, they would not buy paint with sand, it is hard to apply ...

Preparing for painting

In order for the facade of the building to remain beautiful and pleasing to the eye for a long time, it is necessary to prepare the surface for painting before starting painting.

All beginners and experienced painters should know that by painting the product, you can improve its appearance, but do not get rid of defects - chips, scratches, bumps.

Surface preparation

The outer walls of the building, having any flaws, you need to try to eliminate.

The preliminary work of the pre-painting stage may consist of:

 • strengthening the facade;
 • leveling the surface (covering cracks, chips, etc.);
 • cleansing;
 • priming;
 • impregnated with an antiseptic.

The facade coating must be clean, free from dust and any contaminants. In some cases, you can wipe or wash the surface, after which it is imperative to wait for it to dry completely.

Using special means, selected in accordance with the type of material (wood, metal, plastic, etc.), cover up defects, trying to give the facade a perfectly even look. If necessary, you can resort to the help of plasterers and level the outer walls.

To enhance adhesion - adhesion of paint to the surface - a primer should be applied to the facade. Some materials (wood, silicate brick) require repeated repetition of this stage, since they strongly absorb such a solution.

If the old paint is preserved on the facade, then it must be cleaned off as much as possible so that in the future the old layer of paint does not “drag” a new coating along with it. The process of removing old paint is quite tedious, but you can speed it up a bit if you use a solvent, soldering iron, grinder, spatula, chisel and other means to help get rid of the failed coating. Each of the methods has nuances, you need to choose based on your capabilities.

See how you can get rid of old paint.

Video: remove old paint from walls

We collect the necessary tool

The preparatory stages require the use of a tool for cleaning walls, putty. We may need spatulas (for repairing defects), a grinder (for leveling the surface), a mop (for washing and dusting).

Facade surfaces, as a rule, have a large area, so it is more expedient and practical to take an airbrush as an assistant. Such a device for spraying paint will greatly facilitate the work and reduce the time for its implementation.

You can use a pneumatic or electric spray gun. Having resorted to the help of this device, try to determine the tactics of painting the facade - horizontally, vertically, in circles, and stick to it throughout the painting.

If it is not possible to use an airbrush or the surfaces to be painted are not so large, then you can take rollers and brushes. The choice of synthetic or natural tools directly depends on the type of paint. Consult with experts or carefully study the instructions attached to the material.

Painting tools can be of different sizes: large brushes and rollers are suitable for painting large and even surfaces, small ones are useful for staining hard-to-reach places.

Some original painters use ordinary spray guns or a vacuum cleaner to paint the facade.

To perform work on high-rise walls, built scaffolding, a ladder, a winch, a cradle and other devices can be useful.

Calculate paint consumption

Before starting work on painting the exterior walls, you should sit down and calculate the required amount of paint. Paying for extra materials or looking for a suitable color in case of a lack of paint is a troublesome and thankless task.

The Internet is a great help in mathematical calculations, here you can find calculators for determining the amount of paint depending on the parameters of your facade. Use, for example, the services of this site - http://www.vashdom.ru/calculation/pokraskadoma.htm.

The consumption of materials for external walls can also be calculated independently, taking into account the types of paint and the surface to be painted. Use the table for mathematical calculations.

Table: paint calculation depending on its type

Surface to be painted different material absorbs paint differently. For example, for a wooden facade, paint will take more than for a plastic one. This must be taken into account when buying.

Painting options

Painting the facade of a building is an interesting and exciting business. When painting, consider the following points:

 • functional purpose of the building;
 • features of the surrounding nature;
 • climatic conditions;
 • style decision of the building and the entire site.

The direction of applying paint can always be the same, or you can apply each subsequent layer perpendicular to the previous one, so the likelihood of a thorough painting of the surface will increase.

Depending on your choice, the facade can be monophonic or combined, you can highlight any zones with different colors, you can experiment with color and even play a trick by adding colorful splashes, interesting graphics, etc.

When choosing a color for the facade, consider the following information:

 1. Light shades give the building volume and visually bring it closer.
 2. The buildings dark color will appear distant.
 3. To highlight the building and draw attention to the object, use bright colors that will contribute to the visual expansion of the building.

Unfortunately, mineral facade paints are not as rich in terms of color as acrylic ones. Exactly acrylic coating facade “holds” the color longer without changing its intensity.

The desired shade is obtained by adding to the base (usually white color) different quantity one color or another. You can do this yourself, or you can purchase a ready-made palette of colors from the store that is suitable for painting your building.

When buying paint, it must be taken into account that the wall covering will differ slightly in color from the tinting shade (due to light exposure and large surface area) presented in the store.

How to paint the facade of a brick, panel or frame house - instructions and useful tips

The whole process of painting the facade can be represented as a simple algorithm.

First, on a cleaned and prepared surface (leveled with plaster or puttying defects) primer. A special composition is necessary to ensure better adhesion of the surface to be painted with the paint. These formulations may contain antiseptics, in which case it will be possible to save time and save your strength.

If the primer is without antifungal components, then after it has completely dried, apply an antiseptic solution (from mold, bacteria, insects, fungi) and wait again.

The third and final stage is the application of paint. How to effectively paint your Vacation home can be seen in the video.

To obtain a high-quality result, do not neglect the recommendations for painting the facade:

 1. First of all, paint over the corner parts of the building.
 2. Move in the process of painting from the top of the outer walls to the lower areas.
 3. Do not start work during rain or exposure to direct ultraviolet rays on the facade.
 4. Use brushes at work different sizes- for better painting of all parts of the facade.
 5. Do not apply a new coat of paint until the previous one is COMPLETELY dry.
 6. Elements that do not need to be painted in this color should be closed using polyethylene, masking tape or other improvised means.
 7. When painting at height, follow the safety rules - it is better to use a safety cable or something similar.
 8. Protect your respiratory organs with a mask, and hide your arms and legs under appropriate clothing (especially when using an airbrush, spray gun).

Painting the exterior of a building can dramatically change the look of a building with the right tool and the right paint. Try to follow the recommendations of the painting masters in your work, then the facade coating will delight you for a long time.

One of the most accessible and convenient options Facade improvement is the application of a special facade paint to it. In this way, it will be possible not only to revive gray walls but also radically change the look of the house for the better. Separately, it is worth noting that paints perfectly manifest themselves as materials that are resistant to aggressive atmospheric environments.

It is important to understand that the exterior painting of the facade must be completed before the first frosts appear. Firstly, in this way it will be possible to prevent freezing of the paint, and secondly, to keep the plaster in its original form. In addition, painting comfortable conditions without precipitation is much more comfortable and pleasant. You should not choose especially sunny days for painting the walls of the house, as the paint in this case may dry unevenly. The best option It is a cloudy day, after which frosts will not come or it will not rain.

Paint the facade with your own hands: how to calculate the number of paint?

For calculation the right amount paints for ennobling the facade with your own hands, the most important thing is to know the exact area of the surface to be painted. The rest of the information can be read on the packaging or can of paint - usually it indicates what area one liter is designed for. In addition, one should not forget that it will be necessary to apply paint on the facade in two layers, so the figure obtained as a result of simple calculations will need to be doubled.

Experienced craftsmen strongly recommend buying paint with a margin of at least 10% more than the approximate volume required for painting. It is possible that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the number of paints required for painting will increase, and it will not be possible to order the same.

By the way, when ordering paint online, you can use special calculators that will help you calculate the amount of material you need if you enter data on the area of the walls and their surface into it.

We prepare the facade for painting with our own hands

Remember that facade paint is not the material with which you can mask the surface defects of the house. On the contrary, such painting will make the flaws even more noticeable. That is why before painting it is important to properly prepare the surface of the facade for applying the material.

You should start by determining the mechanical surface of the facade of the house with the performance of work aimed at restoring it, if necessary. In other words, everything will need to be done to ensure that the surface before painting is clean, dry, without bumps and cracks. If there is a need, then you will first need to plaster the walls, thereby achieving the formation of a perfectly flat surface.

In addition, at this stage it will be important to achieve optimal adhesion of the base, for which use deep penetration mixtures. At the same time, in cases where surfaces with increased absorption capacity are being treated, for example, wood or sand-lime brick, priming will need to be done several times, waiting for the previous layer to dry before applying the next one.

We paint the house with our own hands: technology and features

A painting apparatus may be required for painting facades (especially indispensable if we are talking large surfaces), roller, paint trough, brushes of different sizes, masking tape.

The method of painting the outer walls with your own hands is similar to the technology of applying paint to the inner walls of a building. That is why it is built on basic painting operations. Consider the nuances of staining with a spray gun and a manual roller.

Electric sprayer. Once the surface of the walls is ready, you can proceed to painting. Using an electric spray gun is much more convenient than a roller, especially if you need to paint. large areas V short time. Applying paint in this way is easier, more interesting and more convenient. The coating lays down in an ideal thin layer without streaks and streaks.

Please note that painting with a spray gun is only possible with a suitable paint viscosity level, which is usually indicated on the packaging.

If you decide to paint the facade with ordinary rollers, then take care of several nozzles for different sections of the walls and a wide portable ladder or scaffolding.

You need to apply paint with a roller at different angles:

 • obliquely;
 • vertical;
 • horizontally.

To paint the facade with a roller with your own hands follows the following technology:

 1. The paint is placed in the tray.
 2. The roller is wetted in paint, after which it is rolled over its corrugated surface to remove excess.
 3. The strips are applied not in a joint, but with an advance on each other by several centimeters to obtain a uniform color coating.

As a rule, almost all facade paints are applied in two thin layers, except for lime, which will need to paint the wall in three layers. Each new layer is applied after the previous one has dried. metal elements on the surface can also be painted after treating them first with oil paint.

stick simple recommendations given below, the process of painting the facade of a private house will not cause you any difficulties, while the result will certainly meet your expectations.

So, what you need to know in order to successfully paint the house yourself:

 1. Start painting the walls from the corners of the house - areas that are in full view.
 1. Use in hard-to-reach places for coloring thin brushes of suitable sizes.
 1. Protect door and window openings from paint. This can easily be done with masking tape, a special grease mixture, or newspapers soaked in water.
 1. Bearing in mind that paint may run off the rollers during painting, the plinth should be covered with a layer of material as a last resort.
 1. Choose the right weather for painting with a favorable forecast for the next few days to avoid damage to the paint as a result of precipitation.
 1. Paint facade decor elements, window and door openings in a different color to create a unique design.

In conclusion, we note that painting the facade with your own hands is an exciting activity that requires some patience and effort. If you possess these qualities, while looking for opportunities to realize your creative potential by saving money on the services of painters, then feel free to get down to business.

In order for the work done to be distinguished by quality, and the painting to be durable, the paint used should include the following significant components:

 • Connecting component, forming a kind protective film on the reduced surface. This component guarantees the absence of cracks on the working surface.
 • A special liquid that enhances the effect produced by the first of the components. It guarantees protection against fungus and the harmful effects of insects.

Facade painting works

Applying materials to the facade surface in three stages - a system according to which the facade is painted.

 1. First applied anti-tar primer, which prevents the formation of resins and stains on the work surface. The method of applying the primer is spot.
 2. Then apply special compound, which provides surface protection from bacteria, mold, insects.
 3. Dye of the corresponding color - the last layer, which, in addition to giving the surface color, protects it from the adverse effects of the environment.

You can find out more about on our website.

Sections of the facade and parts that are not supposed to be painted are covered with paper or glued over special adhesive tape. In order to cover the glass, plywood is used or a newspaper is applied to the wet surface of the glass. The caps of the fastening material and other metal parts are treated with a special anti-corrosion compound (primer).

Detailed video instruction for painting a wooden facade

The process of painting the facade is similar to the process of finishing interior spaces. The main work is preceded by the process of preparing the working surface. The only difference is that the process of preparing the facade of the building for painting is somewhat simpler.

The tool used plays a huge role in the work. When using paint on water based use the tool from synthetic materials. Tools made from natural materials are used in the case of paints, which include a solvent.

Remember the instructions attached to the coloring material - the user manual. If you plan to get a really high-quality result, stick to its provisions.

If you are not 100% sure about own forces, it will be useful to watch video tutorials in which the process of preparing and further painting the facade is perfectly demonstrated, all actions are commented, and detailed explanations are given.

The process of painting the exterior walls of a wooden building

At its core, the methods used when painting the front side of wooden houses are not much different from the methods used to cover buildings sheathed with other materials. But small differences can still be noted.

Wooden walls are most often covered with certain types of paints: transparent and opaque, acrylate and oil paints.

Antiseptic paints are used to protect wood. Such compounds are able to penetrate into the wood to a depth of several millimeters. Wide application found antiseptic transparent paints that can emphasize the structure of the tree itself. This option is very convenient when the wood has an attractive shade and good surface finish.

The translucency of such a material somewhat overlaps the main color, however, like transparent material, highlights the structure of the wooden facade.

Sequence of work

So, first, an antiseptic primed composition is applied to the prepared plane, then the facade is painted. Primer - reliable protection wood from excessive dampness, the formation of mold and fungus. The final layer is an oil or acrylate material.

The surface to be painted must be washed well, remove a layer of old paint, dust, resin, using a scraper or a metal brush. Then it is recommended to degrease the surface with detergents containing alkali and start painting work after it has completely dried.

There are cases when, in order to remove old paint, it is necessary to use a mechanical or chemical method of influencing the surface. Chemical cleaning is more labor-intensive, however, it preserves the structure and surface of wood much better. It is used only in the most extreme cases.

Remember, the better the old paint is removed, the smoother and stronger the new coat will be.

Before painting, mix the paint well, you also need to periodically stir the material in the course of work. Do not start painting the walls of wooden buildings in case of rain, snow and sunny weather with a direct hit sun rays to the work surface. Apply paint with longitudinal movements.

Painting the exterior of your home is the easiest way to update the look of your home. Moreover, the color range of paints is not limited to one or two options, but is provided in a wide range of colors. So you can choose suitable option for every design and every taste.

Since white paints with the addition of color are now popular, you can create a shade yourself. But for facades it is still better to use ready-made options.

The material is applied with a brush or paint sprayer. The paint acts as a protective layer against moisture and dirt. A painted building will last much longer than an unpainted one. The simplicity of the method allows you to significantly save on work. There is no need to hire craftsmen, the cost of which can cost a pretty penny. You don't need any special tools either. All you need is an application tool, the paint itself and a ladder.
It can be applied to any type of building: a wooden house, a brick house, walls covered with foam. Any option is possible. Many refuse paint, remembering this pungent smell from Soviet times. But now they have already learned how to make an odorless solution. Absolutely safe and environmentally friendly, not harmful to humans or the environment.
But, as is the case with any other cladding material, it was not without its drawbacks. The paint does not protect the surface from mechanical damage. Moreover, there may be scratches on it. You can get rid of them only if you paint over.

If the scratch is large, then the whole house will have to be repainted, because if only one wall is painted over, it will differ significantly in color from the rest of the walls.
Another problem with the solution is burnout. Even the most quality material over time on the sunny side will fade.
And since the house has four walls, not all of them face the sunny side. And it will burn unevenly. Periodically, you will have to update the layer of the whole house and align it in color.

Since the work is done from the outside, the painting process should be carried out only at the right time, otherwise it will not live long. The best season for coloring is summer.

In spring, the period of flowering and revival of insects, and all this will settle and stick to the newly painted surface. You can use only the quick-drying option.

It is cold in winter and autumn. And the process of painting at cold temperatures is simply impossible. Summer is also worth choosing the time wisely. On a hot day, do not paint the walls. Otherwise, the solution will dry unevenly. The air temperature should not exceed +25 degrees. Before the rain, too, should not be applied material, because because of the water it will begin to flake and crack. Therefore, before you start painting, carefully follow the weather forecasts.

The quality of the finish depends on the choice of the desired paint. The choice of material for outdoor work is significantly different from the choice for interior decoration. Materials for painting a house must be resistant to all weather conditions: temperature changes, wind, rain. Therefore, the material must be facade works, and in no case for internal.

The sun's rays contribute to the fading of the material. Therefore, the solution should not be afraid of ultraviolet rays. The material must be durable, so it will last much longer.

Various additives in paints will be an additional bonus. Antiseptic additives will increase the protection of the wall from the formation of mold and insects.

This is especially true for wooden houses that insects choose for their homes. Vapor permeability of paint is a prerequisite for painting wooden surfaces. And in other options, it would not hurt to buy just such a paint. If the surface of the walls does not breathe, this will cause condensation and, as a result, the formation of fungus and mold.

Types of paints

Water-based paints are the most common option for facade work. By their characteristics they bypass other species. They do not smell and hide small defects surfaces. Most often sold in white with further dilution. Therefore, you need to knead all the paint at once, so that later it does not differ in shade. If you are not sure what you will succeed, then you can order a ready-made version in the store where you purchase it. Water paints are divided into several types.
Acrylic paints are suitable for all surfaces except limestone. They are cheap and last all weather. She is not afraid of ultraviolet rays, which means that she will retain her color for a long time. Dries quickly, does not smell. And due to its elasticity, it hides some surface imperfections.

Latex paints are famous for their resistance to water. It is pleasant to work with the solution, it is easy to apply, which significantly saves material consumption. It can be applied to any type of surface. However, the paint does not contain antiseptic substances, so you will first need to treat the surface with a primer without fail.

Silicone paint is made on the basis of silicone resins. The paint is elastic and protects from moisture. It is also vapor-permeable, which means that the development of microflora should not be afraid.

At silicate paints there is one significant drawback - only silicate-based materials can be applied to them. Otherwise, you will have to get rid of the paint completely. But in other respects, this species is in no way inferior to others. And of the moisture-resistant options, it even has the highest rates of resistance to water.
Polyvinyl acetate paints are not recommended for painting the facade. They won't stand the conditions. Cement and lime compounds rarely used for painting the facades of private houses due to the complexity of the work and the specifics of the application.

Organic paints include alkyd and oil solutions. By by and large they are in no way inferior to water, but there is one parameter that repels them from their operation - toxicity. Because of this, the paints emit an unpleasant odor that does not disappear for a long time.
Oil paints are made from drying oil. The paint gradually fades in the sun and if not primed before painting the wall, it will crack. Alkyd paints are more suitable for outer cladding, but their disadvantage is their combustibility. Plus, they fade quickly.

Preparatory work for painting

Before you start painting, you need to make preparatory work. Inspect the walls for defects. Tap the wall with a hammer to reveal weak points. Old plaster must be removed if it exfoliates and replaced with a new one.
If there is an old layer of paint on the surface, then you need to get rid of it. You can simply put water pressure on the walls and the weak areas crumble, and then remove the rest with a solvent. If the paint is still okay, then it is quite possible to apply a new layer on the old one.
If there are cracks, then they also need to be repaired. Slightly expand them and rinse with a jet of water. And cover with plaster. The surface is left until the composition dries completely. To make the material stronger, you can periodically moisten it with water. Protruding frames and elements must be covered with adhesive tape.

Technology for painting different types of facade

Faster and better work with the paint sprayer. If the house is very large, then this method will allow you to paint the entire perimeter in one day. If the house is not big and you don’t want to buy a spray gun, then you can get by with a roller with a brush. Since you may not have time to paint everything at once, stock up on white spirit, you can soak the brushes in it, and then rinse with water.
And they will be like new the next day. Pour the paint into the container. If you are working on scaffolding, then a regular paint bath will do, and if you are working on stairs, you can use a small bucket with a handle. For example, from mayonnaise. So it's more convenient to work. The paint is stirred in a bucket. After that, apply it with a brush to the surface. Movement must be in the same direction.

It is best to paint from top to bottom. This avoids the formation of paint drops. And when you get tired, working from below is much easier.

Coloring of various surfaces occurs in the same way. The difference is only in the preparation and choice of paint. The wooden surface will most likely need to be applied with two coats of paint, as it absorbs water well. But on other surfaces it is better to apply two layers. So the color will be brighter, and the protective layer will be thicker. A new layer can only be applied after the old one has dried.

Before applying paint, it is better to cover the walls with a primer. And then apply a layer of varnish on the paint. This is especially true for wooden surfaces. In no case do not leave part of the area unpainted, when the paint dries, the transition will be noticeable. If this is a tree, then paint the plank to the end, and flat surface you need to paint all at once.

To refresh kitchen interior, it is not necessary to purchase new furniture. More economical option is the painting of old facades, especially since modern materials allow you to perform this procedure for quite high level. In this article, we paint facades using standard technology, which is used by many furniture makers due to the excellent quality and durability of the result.

It is wrong to say that painting the facades of cabinet furniture is a simple process. If you want to get a durable coating without visual defects, then be prepared to invest in necessary materials, as well as show scrupulousness and patience in preparing the part for painting and direct application paint and varnish compositions.

Painting furniture facades - an easy way to restore the kitchen

As a rule, furniture for the kitchen is made of wood or MDF, which perform well during operation. To paint these materials we need:

 • sandpaper of different grain sizes;
 • scotch brite;
 • tool for applying paint (spray gun);
 • anti-silicone (degreaser);
 • primer;
 • solvents;
 • car enamel;

Sandpaper and scotch brite

Sandpaper will be used in almost all steps painting MDF facades or wooden products for surface grinding. The grit size of the emery is selected taking into account technological process:

 • P220-280 - preparation of the base for the primer;
 • P320 - removal of soil shagreen;
 • P500 - surface treatment before applying paint.

Advice! It is best to use foam-based sandpaper. It is quite flexible, which allows you to handle all the irregularities of the facades well.

Scotch brite (sanding felt) with a P800 grade is used for finishing surface sanding before painting. Larger Scotch brite abrasive (P220-280) may be needed for processing complex elements facades, for example. internal corners or decor.

Painting tool (spray gun)

Kitchen facades painted with a brush or roller usually do not have an ideal surface. At the same time, the spray gun allows you to achieve a smooth and uniform coating structure. In addition, with such a tool, you can apply not only paint, but also a primer, which makes the priming process faster.

Note! Spray guns are of two types - electric and pneumatic. For the first, it is enough to have an outlet at hand. The latter are powered by air, so in this case you will need a compressor.

The optimal nozzle diameter is 1.2-1.3 mm. A gun with such a nozzle will allow you to evenly spray both primer and paint.

Surface degreaser

Degreasing the surface before applying primers and paints and varnishes has great importance. If you miss this stage, then the final result will most likely have defects, which can only be eliminated by completely repainting the facade.

For wood and MDF, it is necessary to use a degreaser, which contains an organic solvent. Such a tool is often called "anti-silicone", since it effectively removes not only various oils and fats, but also polyorganosiloxanes (silicones).

Priming compositions

To ensure good adhesion of the paint to the wooden surface, the part must be treated with a primer. For such purposes, three types of primer are used:

 • for plastic;
 • epoxy;
 • pore-filling.

Do not be surprised by the name "for plastic". This primer is great for wooden surface, which many manufacturers indicate in the description of this product. the main task such a primer - an increase in the adhesion of the facade material with paint.

Epoxy primer is needed to isolate the material with which the wood was originally opened or impregnated. Filling primer is used to level the surface before the direct application of paint.

Note! If the material of your kitchen is natural wood epoxy primer is not required. And for painting MDF facades, you should alternately apply all types of primer: for plastic, epoxy, filling.

paints and varnishes

For furniture facades the best choice is auto enamel. After drying, it creates a beautiful glossy surface that does not change its external characteristics over time.

There are two types of car enamel:

 • alkyd;
 • acrylic.

Alkyd enamel is a derivative of alkyd resin. Its feature is rather fast polymerization at normal temperature air. Such paint costs less than acrylic, but it needs additional varnishing.

Advice! To open the facade, it is desirable to use automotive varnish with the HS (HighSolids) marking, which indicates a high concentration of solid particles and a minimum content of solvents.

Acrylic car enamel is the most popular paint among car owners. When working with such material, there is no need to use varnish, since after drying the surface becomes evenly glossy.

To achieve an interesting color effect, such as metallic, motorists often use a combination of a special base enamel and acrylic varnish. If you paint MDF furniture with similar compositions, it will look very stylish and expensive.

The base enamel will give the kitchen facade an original shade.

Solvents for primer and paint

It is possible to dilute the primer and paint to the desired consistency with universal solvents 646 and 647, however, an individual selection of thinner for each composition is considered more correct. For example, for acrylic-based car enamels, it is better to use acrylic R-12, and for base enamels, the seller will most likely recommend purchasing a solvent that matches the composition of the base.

In addition to diluting the primer and paint, a solvent will also be needed to clean the spray gun and workspace from the remnants of the paint and varnish material.

Preparing the facade for painting

The process of painting furniture facades made of MDF or wood always begins with surface preparation, which includes removing the top layer (gloss), priming and sanding the part.

Removing the top gloss

As a rule, the outer layer of furniture facades is a gloss, which is achieved through the use of varnish or paint. If you apply a new layer of paint on a glossy surface, then it will not adhere well due to low adhesion. To achieve the desired adhesion upper layer processed sandpaper and scotch-brite (in hard-to-reach places) with gradation P220-280.

Note! MDF facades are usually covered with PVC film on top. It must be completely removed, after which you can proceed to the processing of furniture with sandpaper.

It is not necessary to remove all the gloss from the facade. It is enough to fill the risk over the entire plane, that is, to achieve the necessary roughness for better adhesion of the surface to the primer.

Priming steps

Before proceeding with the application of the primer, the plane should be degreased by wiping it with an anti-silicone. After that, it is no longer possible to touch the part with your hands.

The direct priming process consists of the following steps:

 1. Surface treatment primer for plastic.

Start covering the part with a primer from the ends and hard-to-reach places, and then move on to the main plane. To create good adhesion of paint to MDF, it is enough to apply 2 layers of such a primer.

Advice! To obtain a uniform coating, apply the next primer coat perpendicular to the previous one. This rule also applies to the application of paints and varnishes.

 1. Processing the part with epoxy primer.

Epoxy primer is applied to MDF in 1-2 layers. The time it takes to dry completely room temperature usually 24 hours.

 1. Filling primer.

The color of the filling primer is selected depending on the color of the paint. If you intend to use light colors, then it is better to use a white primer. The number of layers depends on the nature of the plane. For a smooth and even surface, it is enough to apply 1.5 coats of primer (spray + full coat).

Like paint, primer has a different palette of colors.

Finishing grinding

Paint must be applied on a perfectly flat surface. If after the primer in some places there are open pores, they should be repaired with a one-component putty. Many may have a reasonable question: why not putty the facade before priming it? The fact is that the primer itself is able to eliminate minor defects in the plane, so it will not be necessary to putty the entire part.

Final sanding before painting kitchen facades from MDF or wood is done with P500 sandpaper. With its help, excess putty is removed and shagreen is removed - a visually noticeable uneven coating.

Important! In the process of sanding the primed surface with sandpaper, do not apply too much force so as not to damage the coating. Be especially careful when processing the edges of the ends, since it is in these places that the material, as a rule, has the thinnest layer.

After sanding, the entire plane should be passed with scotch-brite. In this case, you can not control the force, since the grinding felt is enough soft material and is not capable of severely damaging the surface.

Raw shagreen after painting will be visible to the naked eye

Immediately before applying the paint, the part should be degreased with anti-silicone, after which it will not be superfluous to walk on the surface with a special sticky cloth to remove any remaining dust.

Paint application

The paint is prepared according to the instructions attached to it and taking into account the features of the spray gun. The feed should not be set too high, so that the spray area is negligible. This will help to work out the facade more carefully and reduce material consumption.

As in the case of applying the primer, you need to start painting the facades from the ends, after which the base is processed. To obtain a uniform color, 2-3 layers of paint are usually enough. Before applying the next layer, it is necessary to allow the previous one to dry for 10-15 minutes.

Advice! If you have never dealt with applying paint with a spray gun before, then it is better to practice on a “test” blank before moving on to painting kitchen fronts.

The spray gun allows you to evenly distribute the paint over the entire surface

Surface varnishing

The varnish is applied to the facade according to the same principle as the paint, in two or three layers. The task of the first layer (small spray) is to create a sticky surface to prevent streaks from subsequent thicker layers.

Important! It is necessary to process the part with varnish in a non-dusty room, using clean clothes.

The interval between applying layers is on average 5-10 minutes. If you did everything right, the result should be smooth glossy surface With mirror effect.

Lacquered kitchen fronts

Creating additional effects: glisal and raindrops

To make the painted facades in the kitchen look not only fresh and neat, but also original, you can add interesting effects using glizal (translucent paint) or a conventional water sprayer.

Glizal is diluted with water according to the instructions and applied to the previously primed surface in 2 layers. With a moistened sponge textured roller or a hard brush, you can create a unique pattern on the facade. It is important to bear in mind that the creation of a drawing is possible only during the first 30-60 minutes, until the paint begins to dry. After the paint has dried, the part is opened with a transparent varnish.

Note! Gliesal takes longer to dry than standard paints, so varnishing may need to be delayed for a few days.

Decorating furniture facades with glisal with your own hands

To get the effect of raindrops, you will need paint in two colors, for example, black and blue metallic (choose colors according to the interior of your kitchen). A darker coating is applied to the prepared base. After it dries, the part is covered with water using a spray gun. Without waiting for the drops to dry, the next color is applied on top with an airbrush. The paint supply in this case should be minimal in order to achieve light spraying. After the layer has completely dried, the surface is sanded with scotch-brite (P1200 or P1500) and varnished.

Painting furniture facades is a rather laborious process. If you have never encountered such work before, then it is better to get your hands on old unnecessary furniture first. In the absence of such an opportunity, it is better to turn to specialists in order to avoid a waste of money and effort.
