How to build a greenhouse for seedlings. Do-it-yourself greenhouse for seedlings: photo, video. Film protective umbrellas

Grow seedlings good quality troublesome and labor intensive. To do this, she needs to create the right climatic conditions. Everyone dreams of a good harvest and rapid growth plants. In the last few years, small mini-greenhouses have begun to gain the greatest popularity. They create ideal conditions for the growth of cultivated plants, as on personal plot as well as in the apartment.

Mini-greenhouses are used for growing cultivated plants not only on suburban area but also within the walls of a city apartment. It is suitable for planting whimsical and heat-loving varieties.

  1. Protects young plants from winds, drafts and precipitation.
  2. Provides the necessary climatic conditions for plants.
  3. Young seedlings do not get sick when transplanted into open ground, as addiction occurs slowly and gradually.
  4. Caring for plants is quite simple.
  5. They are easy not only to install, but also to store.

Most suburban areas are small in area. Full installation is not possible. Since such structures occupy most of the site.

Differences between greenhouses and greenhouses

All gardeners know that there are two irreplaceable structures in the backyard for growing not only seedlings, but also adult plants. But there are significant differences between them:

  1. The height is not more than 0.5 meters.
  2. It has no vents or doors.
  3. The greenhouse is heated naturally. For this use sunlight and bio-fuels.
  4. You can change their location.
  5. These are temporary structures that are used mainly only for the summer period.
  6. Year-round use is possible indoors.

Kinds

There are a lot of types of miniature greenhouses. They may differ in size, shape and covering material. We present you several popular species that can often be found both in the apartment and on the site.

"Home"

The structure is small. Fits on any window sill. Used for cultivation. By design, they are similar to street greenhouses, but in miniature. Installation in several levels is possible. You can construct it yourself or purchase it at a gardening store.

Portable board construction

It is a box-shaped structure that does not have a bottom. Polyethylene film or glass is used as a covering material. Its convenience lies in the fact that, if necessary, it can be installed anywhere on the site. Its main use is to protect plants from frost.

"Belgian"

To build this model, you will need to dig a ditch. In it, equip ridges with fertile soil. Top cover with polyethylene, glass in a frame or a sheet of polycarbonate.

It is best to construct this type with a single-pitched cover. You save space on your site.

Model "Butterfly"

Named after a small feature, which is the opening of the valves on both sides. They are visually similar to a butterfly. The main advantage is access to plants, which is possible from both sides. It can be of any size, but in most cases they use small structures that do not take up much space on the plot.

Model "Breadbox"

It has one sash that fully rises to the top. The roof is semicircular. The opening of the sash occurs by pushing it behind the main part of the roof. Access to plants is easy. Doesn't take up a lot of space.

"Shelf"

For the construction of this type of greenhouse, an unnecessary rack or cabinet is suitable. The cabinet is left without a back wall and covered with polyethylene or covered with polycarbonate. Instead of doors, frames are used with the same covering material with which it is closed. back wall. Visually, this design resembles a shelf from a store. Easily installed on any balcony or loggia of a city apartment and used all year round.

Model "Wall"

This miniature structure is installed near the walls of outbuildings or houses. Compact. Great design for small areas. The roof is mostly single-pitched type. There is a minus, but not significant. In winter, it is necessary to constantly clear the snow.

From improvised materials

A good solution in arranging a personal plot will be small greenhouses which do not require any financial investments. And they take up very little space on the site.

Plastic bottles

For the construction of this mini-greenhouse you will need simple bottle from 5 to 10 liters. Making a greenhouse out of it is simple:

  1. Cut out a rectangular hole. One side does not need to be cut. This will be the door of the future greenhouse.
  2. Fill the bottle with nutrient soil.
  3. Plant seeds are planted.
  4. After spitting and rooting of seeds, the greenhouse is opened.

Do not forget to make several holes in the side of the bottle, which is parallel to the door. This is a drainage system to remove excess moisture.

Old tin barrel

From old barrel, which has not been used for a long time, you can make a mini-greenhouse. This process is simple and consists of several steps:

  1. Cut out several holes from the sides of the barrel.
  2. A dense covering material, for example, a bifold polyethylene film, is attached to the upper edge of the barrel.
  3. The holes should be located at a level where it will be convenient for you to monitor the plants.
  4. Fill the barrel with earth and plant plants in it.

window frames

A mini-greenhouse made of this material is installed once and should not be moved anymore. Old window frames are heavy and massive. To install them, you need to build a foundation. Further, the construction is carried out as follows:

  1. Window frames are cleaned of old paint, and covered with a means to protect the wood from rot and insects.
  2. For the frame you will need - a rack (1 piece) and a pair of strappings.
  3. The floor is concreted.
  4. The roof is made of a gable type.

Materials for manufacturing

The construction of a mini-greenhouse is a process that is based on the use of improvised means. It can be made from anything. Mainly use:

  • plastic;
  • metal profiles;
  • wooden bases;
  • polyethylene film;
  • polycarbonate sheets;
  • glass.

If the design of your mini-greenhouse has an arched shape, then its construction requires the installation of a flexible frame. Common materials for such bases are plastic and metal profiles. Wood can be used, but it is highly susceptible to decay. Indispensable, modern is polycarbonate. It is also possible to use plastic film and glass.

Glass makes the structure heavier and therefore, first of all, you will need to take care of strengthening the frame or installing the foundation.

Professional gardeners use a specific covering material for certain models of mini-greenhouses:

  1. Polycarbonate sheets are suitable for models "Butterfly", "Bread box".
  2. Polyethylene - for those structures that will be located in the apartment, at home, on the balcony.
  3. Glass - for stationary greenhouses in the garden.

Features and Benefits

The mini-greenhouse maintains a high temperature regime and can maintain constant air humidity for a long time. If you live in a city apartment. A small greenhouse will be a great place for greenery to grow.

It is also suitable for growing seedlings of whimsical plants. Indeed, many gardeners have met more than once with the fact that when planting seeds, their germination was zero. When grown in mini-greenhouses, optimal conditions for germination are created.

Main disadvantages

Like any design, a mini-greenhouse has not only positive sides, but also negative. These include:

  • do not tolerate strong winds;
  • the range of cultivated plant varieties is narrow, since the height of the greenhouse is small;
  • it is difficult to replace the covering material if it is damaged, since the attachment to the frame is difficult.

How to choose a design

Each garden, summer cottage or other piece of land is unique. It may differ in landscape features of the area, its size and, of course, the composition of the soil. In order to create ideal conditions for plant growth, it is worth carefully choosing the design of a mini-greenhouse. For this it is necessary to take into account:

  • individual features of the land;
  • what area will be allotted on the site for it;
  • what kind of lighting will be used;
  • what volumes of seedlings or plants will be grown.

When taking into account all of the above, you can choose for your site and seedlings desired view mini greenhouse.

Installation of different types

Mini-greenhouses, depending on the type load-bearing structures, can be constructed in several different ways. For clarity, let's start step by step recommendations for construction from a mini-greenhouse that does not have a frame.

Such a greenhouse is beds covered with plastic wrap or other identical material. Seeds are sown and covered with covering material on top, and pressed along the edges with bricks, wooden yards.

Arched mini-greenhouse, instruction

To build an arched greenhouse, you will need to follow the following instructions:

  1. For construction, 5–6 arcs made of plastic or metal profiles, polyethylene film, wire parameters and about 20 clamps are required.
  2. Arcs are made by hand or bought in a store.
  3. Install them at a distance of 35-45 centimeters from each other.
  4. To strengthen the frame, a wire is pulled between the arcs.
  5. Cover the resulting structure with a film. After attaching it on one side with clamps.
  6. On the other hand, the film is attached to a wooden rail. It is from this side that your greenhouse will open.
  7. From the sides, the structure is also covered with pieces of polyethylene and pressed to the ground with a brick or wooden rail.

Portable polycarbonate, instructions

For the construction of a portable greenhouse made of polycarbonate leaves, it is more laborious, but no less interesting process. This will require:

  • wooden slats;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • awnings;
  • lever.

Instructions to follow when building this mini-greenhouse:

  1. Make a base frame. It should resemble a box with an oblique top.
  2. A frame is mounted from the rails. It is used to create a greenhouse roof.
  3. A piece of polycarbonate sheet is inserted into the frame.
  4. A support for the frame - the roof - is constructed from a wooden block.
  5. Attach a hook to the lid to fix the frame on the bar.

These building methods are very easy to install, but they provide seeds and seedlings with optimal climatic temperatures and humidity for germination and further growth.

Bio-fuel in greenhouse construction

There are situations in which additional heating of small greenhouses is necessary. Biofuel can handle this perfectly. Its installation is quite simple.

  • After the place for installing a mini-greenhouse is established, they dig a small hole.
  • Mix manure, straw and dry leaves with the ground and place in a pit.
  • Water thoroughly with water and fertile soil is placed on top.

A layer of fertile soil should be thick enough for plants to grow well.

  • Now the greenhouse is being installed.

The heating process is based on the decomposition of biological additives. Due to the release of heat, additional heating of the soil under the plants occurs.

There are a huge number of mini-greenhouse designs and everyone will be able to choose for their site exactly the one that will provide best growth seedlings, and others horticultural crops and at the same time will not take up a large amount of space on the site.

The mini greenhouse is great way grow a healthy quality seedlings, which gets used to future growth conditions gradually and after landing in a permanent place does not get sick and gets used almost instantly.

Horticulture gurus assure that crops on personal plots can be tripled by actively using small home structures, of which there are many types. A self-made mini-greenhouse can become a vegetable garden or a greenhouse right in the house, an excellent help in growing seedlings, a cozy shelter for plants on the site. Implement this idea by familiarizing yourself with the types, methods of manufacturing compact structures from the simplest to high-tech.

Mini greenhouse in the garden

Types of mini-greenhouses

This category includes a variety of greenhouses for the home, desktop greenhouses, cabinets purchased in stores or equipped by home craftsmen for growing greens, indoor flowers, seedlings. Some people adapt aquariums, terrariums and even suitcases that have become unnecessary for this purpose.

Classic mini greenhouse

When deciding what it is possible to build a compact greenhouse for a house or a summer residence from, it should be remembered that in this building there are two main structural element- a supporting frame (frame) and a light-conducting fence. Materials for walls and roofs are:

  • glass,
  • polymer film different kinds,
  • nonwoven covering materials,
  • special synthetic mesh (Nethouse greenhouses),
  • improvised materials such as plastic bottles.

Garden greenhouse with wooden frame

Suitable for frames:

  • metal pipes or profile (corner, square),
  • plumbing plastic pipes,
  • fiberglass rebar,
  • lumber (bars, boards),
  • old window frames, if any.

Classic mini greenhouse

In not so ancient times, the joy and pride of summer residents was a greenhouse-house with a wooden frame. It is worth building its miniature analogue for forcing greenery, growing seedlings, indoor flowers in an apartment. The actions performed in this case are by no means complicated and consist of two main stages. First you need to determine the dimensions of the mini-greenhouse, sketch, start making the bottom with your own hands:

  1. Make blanks from wooden blocks, cut glass the right sizes for the bottom, walls, roof.
  2. Select grooves for glasses on two adjacent sides of the bars intended for the bottom, cut off their ends at 45 ° at the joints.
  3. Sand and treat all surfaces of the rails with a waterproof stain.
  4. Lubricate the groove in one of the rails with sealant, insert the glass into it, making sure that the second groove is facing up.
  5. Alternately install the remaining bars, gluing the joints between them. Dry the finished bottom.

Bottom manufacturing

Now you can assemble the walls and roof:

  1. Process the details as in the previous step.
  2. Assemble, similarly to the bottom, all frames intended for walls and roofs.
  3. Mount the walls using corrosion-resistant self-tapping screws.
  4. Install triangular elements, one roof slope, attach a hinged cover to it on hinges.

Assembling a room greenhouse

Greenhouse cabinet

Provide comfortable conditions for plants on the loggia apartment building and in the backyard, mini-greenhouses in the form of whatnots or cabinets help. Their area is small, but, being multi-tiered, they accommodate much more "guests" than desktop options. With such a structure, you can grow a solid amount of seedlings in a city apartment. A glazed display rack, on the shelves of which are installed original flower arrangements, can become a highlight of the interior.

Trade offers many models of home mini-greenhouses in the form of cabinets. The simplest version is a metal frame with mesh shelves, on which a transparent cover is pulled, equipped with a zipper for access to plants and organizing ventilation. Any householder will make such a design with his own hands for one or two, guided by the photo below.

Simple compact greenhouse rack

A notable feature of the greenhouse-cabinet is its mobility. At the end of the seedling period, it is easy to take it to the country house and decorate it. adjoining territory capricious flowers. Everyone knows how chic terry petunias suffer from rain, and a mini-greenhouse will reliably cover containers in bad weather. If the legs of the structure are equipped with wheels, it will be easy to roll it to the most convenient place.

Another option is to put the rack on the balcony, where to grow seedlings or give shelter to some indoor plants for the summer. However, for the loggia or balcony of the house, you can build a more elegant mini-greenhouse, and this will not seem superfluous in the living room. Consider the photo below and roll up your sleeves: home master making an analog is easy.

Elegant closet-greenhouse on the balcony

Mini-greenhouses on the windowsill deserve special mention; cabinet structures have also been used here. Study the diagrams below - perhaps you will find the ground for creativity.

Schemes for the device of mini-greenhouses on the windowsill: fig. 1 - stationary room greenhouse, fig. 2 - a cabinet assembled from separate modules like bookshelves

High-tech automatic structures

The designs discussed above provide plants with a greenhouse effect, they sometimes provide additional illumination. But watering, fertilizing, regulating humidity, temperature, airing is the concern of the owners, who often have little time. Many people dream of a “smart” greenhouse that would take care of green pets on its own. Reliable Option- a ready-made automated electric greenhouse, since not everyone can do it with their own hands.

Home Automatic Mini Greenhouse

Through the efforts of the sphere modern technologies automatic cabinet-type mini-greenhouses, the so-called growboxes, in which compact crops can be grown, have been created. At the same time, everything necessary for plants conditions, including lighting, are created artificially, using the appropriate equipment and devices included in the kit:

  • fans (one or more);
  • lighting fixtures LED, DNAT, DRI;
  • carbon filters;
  • timers;
  • thermometers;
  • hygrometers;
  • voltage relay;
  • auto irrigation systems.

Solid turnkey growbox

Appearance growbox depends on what specifically serves as the basis for mounting a set of equipment. Firms that offer this type of mini-greenhouses in finished form mount the filling in cabinets resembling ordinary furniture, or in wardrobes made of special durable light-tight and odor-proof fabric. IN last case boxes are also called grow tents.

Ready-made grow boxes are very expensive. For example, a box for a house, designed for just one plant, costs about 13,000 rubles, and the price of a box for 15 "tenants" is close to 45,000 rubles. Obviously, it makes sense to keep only incredibly valuable specimens in such cabinets, and it is not advisable for an ordinary summer resident to grow seedlings in them. Purchase of grow tent and self-assembly equipment in it reduces the cost, but still quite expensive.

You can significantly reduce the price of the issue if you purchase a branded kit for a grow box and mount it yourself, taking as a basis a cabinet, cabinet, a case from a non-working refrigerator, and so on. Having the desire, time, skills in electrical installation, it is quite possible to cope with this task. This helpful video will help.

Automated mini-greenhouses are produced in various options. Some models are shown in the photo below.

High-tech cabinets: 1 – grow tent; 2 - Kitchen Nano Garden with individual temperature control on each shelf; 3 - growbox with a hydroponics system; 4 - caring for pets in the growbox

Aeroponic system

Another product high technology, allowing to grow various crops with almost no human intervention, is aeroponics. Unlike high-tech cabinets, which typically use hydroponics (plant roots are in a nutrient solution or a solid substrate impregnated with it), an aeroponic system does not involve the presence of soil, substrate, or placing the roots in a liquid medium.

The basis of this method is the periodic fine spraying of the nutrient solution on freely hanging roots, which in this case receive a peculiar oxygen cocktail. But oxygen is needed for the development of green pets along with good nutrition (it’s not for nothing that you loosen the beds in the country!). Results:

  • in grown crops, growth and maturation are accelerated;
  • the resulting fruits or greens are environmentally friendly;
  • the harvested crop is several times higher than that possible with traditional cultivation;
  • since the vegetation of plants is accelerating, several such crops can be obtained per year.

Wonderful household appliance AeroGarden

The most famous aeroponics home appliance is the cute AeroGarden mini greenhouse. It has an excellent design, all processes (supply of water, power, switching on and off of lighting) are automated. However, the price bites: more than 25,000 rubles. Now the Russian analogue of this device "Home Garden" is being actively advertised, reviews about it are good, and the cost is 2.5 times lower.

You should not think that only compact greenhouses are equipped with an aeroponics system. This progressive method is also used for industrial cultivation crops in closed ground. Significantly, some manufacturers of high-tech cabinets have begun to abandon hydroponics in favor of aeroponics. An example is in the video below.

Video: Growbox. Aeroponics

A nice bonus: to build an aeroponic installation for the home with your own hands is quite simple and not too expensive. See for yourself by watching the video.

We build a mini-greenhouse for a summer residence with our own hands

It is superfluous to prove that vegetables and herbs, grown at least part of the season in protected ground, give earlier harvests, which are much higher than in open beds. If there is no place and funds for the construction capital greenhouses, consider what to make simple, inexpensive, but effective small greenhouses.

Greenhouse in garden mini-greenhouse

How is a greenhouse different from a greenhouse

If you are going to build a sunny house for seedlings, you should decide on the terminology: what type of closed structure is called a greenhouse, and what kind of greenhouse. A person inexperienced in gardening will name size as the main criterion. This is to some extent true, since the main difference between the two types - the process of microclimate formation in a closed volume - is predetermined precisely by the size (mainly height).

In the greenhouse, the greenhouse effect is pronounced due to the intensive heating of a small volume by the sun. In the greenhouse, although this factor is also present, the microclimate is closer to natural. When we are talking about small-sized structures, the differences are smoothed out, the conditions in a compact greenhouse may be close to the microclimate of a greenhouse. In view of this, here the terms "greenhouse" and "mini-greenhouse" can be used as equivalent.

Greenhouse or greenhouse?

Greenhouse for seedlings with a frame made of pipes

When choosing the dimensions and materials for a homemade shelter, one should be guided by the purposes for which it is intended. For growing seedlings at home and even a full cycle of vegetation of low crops, the ready-made greenhouse "Snowdrop" is perfect. You can take it as a prototype and create a do-it-yourself structure with an arched frame made of galvanized steel, aluminum or plastic pipes.

Purchased greenhouse "Snowdrop-M"

Easiest to work with polypropylene pipes(25-32 mm). The advantages of the frame of them:

  • budgeting;
  • durability;
  • speed of installation and dismantling,
  • reliability, corrosion resistance;
  • ease of maintenance, cleaning;
  • transportability,
  • good looks.

Greenhouse frame mounting scheme

To mount such a structure with your own hands is very simple:

  1. Mark the site, prepare fertile soil. It is not out of place to make a box of boards around the perimeter of the beds to avoid slipping of the earth, but you can do without it.
  2. Disband steel reinforcement into segments (80 cm) - for attaching arches. Drive them with a half-meter interval along the long sides of the perimeter of the future greenhouse, leaving 30 cm outside.
  3. Cut the pipes into pieces 2 m long. Determine their number based on the length of the ridge, with the expectation that the arched supports are located at least half a meter apart. If reinforcement for fastening arches is not provided, increase the length of the pipes by 50 cm so that they can be stuck into the ground.
  4. Having fixed one end of the pipe on the fitting, bend it with an arc and carefully put the other end on the fitting with opposite side ridges. Do the same for the rest of the pipes.
  5. Fasten the resulting arches together with a connecting strip, wire or cord.
  6. Cover the frame with a translucent material (agrofibre, film), fix it on the arcs with special clamps. You can make homemade clamps from short pieces of a slightly larger diameter pipe by cutting narrow slots in them along the length.
  7. Stretch and secure with stones or boards hanging covering material around the perimeter of the "newborn" greenhouse.

Covering material is attached around the perimeter

Film mini-greenhouse

In fact, a film mini-greenhouse is any frame covered with a greenhouse film, which is why it is cheap and requires little labor for installation. Now popular use of plastic water pipes and fittings, from which, like a children's designer, you can assemble a reliable durable frame for a comfortable gable "house".

Returning to the arched greenhouse discussed just above, you will find that approximately the same technology can be applied to the construction of an arched frame for a compact greenhouse. Only the dimensions of the elements need to be increased, it is imperative to make a wooden box at the bottom, and additionally fasten the pipes to it with clamps.

Assembling the frame from plastic pipes

The following photos may remind you of a classic room greenhouse, the manufacturing process of which is described earlier. Yes, practically this is its enlarged copy, which is even easier to make with your own hands: you don’t need to make grooves for glasses, mess with sealant - you just have to assemble frames from wooden blocks and cover them with a film. Just don't forget to process wooden details protective compound!

When planning the construction of a film structure, it is important to know the criteria for choosing a material. Often summer residents operate with only one definition of a film: "polyethylene". However, several types of film are used to cover greenhouses:

  1. Polyethylene. Sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, under the influence of which it quickly collapses. It has low strength. Service life is only one season. Dignity - low price.
  2. Reinforced. Durable, used for winter greenhouses.
  3. Polyvinyl chloride. Has high transparency and durability. The price is high.
  4. Stabilized. Thanks to modifier additives, it prevents the formation of condensate. Light transmittance is reduced.
  5. Light-scattering - for special greenhouses.

Construction from old cans and more

Of course, building a mini-greenhouse with your own hands reduces its cost, and if you use waste materials at hand, you can practically avoid material costs. Many make individual shelters for cabbage seedlings from plastic bottles with a cut bottom.

Some originals can be inspired to make a unique greenhouse for seedlings by an old suitcase or an unnecessary umbrella.

You can purchase umbrella-type devices to protect your pets from late frosts. It is easy to make such products with your own hands.

Finally, the design of a mini-greenhouse from an old can or barrel deserves attention, the manufacture of which is within the power of anyone. For this you need:

  1. Wash (clean) the old plastic container at hand.
  2. Cut through windows from one side without affecting the stiffeners, if any.
  3. Cut out a curtain from a dense film according to the size of the slots, fix it with a furniture stapler or double sided tape.
  4. Pour soil into the container, sow the seeds.

Mesh mini greenhouse

Making a mini-greenhouse (more precisely, its frame) from a metal mesh with your own hands is within the power of even a completely inexperienced person in this matter.

The work should be done in this order:

  1. Buy construction grid or put into use the existing leftovers.
  2. Measure the required amount for the floor, walls, cylindrical surface of the upper part.
  3. Lay plastic pipes around the perimeter of the base to strengthen the structure. Attach them to the grid with pins.
  4. Make a door frame out of wood, dock it with metal frame.
  5. Prepare two plastic pipes 60 cm longer than the perimeter of the rounded part of the end of the greenhouse. Bend them, attach to the grid with electrical tape. Stick the free ends into the ground.
  6. Cover the rounded part of the frame and the rear end with a film, glue the joint with adhesive tape.
  7. To make a door by wrapping a rectangular structure knocked together from rails with a film. Hang it on the hinges in the door frame.
  8. Complete the building experiment by covering the gaps in the front wall with foil.

Miniature greenhouse against the wall

A compact greenhouse attached to the sunny wall of the house is a popular option in Western countries for placing a greenhouse facility on the site. Russian summer residents and homeowners rarely use it, but in vain.

A popular type of mini-greenhouse in the West

Here are the benefits that can be obtained by placing a mini-greenhouse against the wall of a building:

  • For a greenhouse adjacent to the house, it is required less space than for standing alone.
  • The wall is a kind of heat accumulator. Having warmed up from the sun during the day, at night it gives off heat inside the mini-greenhouse. Temperature differences between night and day are reduced, which favors the development of plants. In addition, the greenhouse gets part of the heat from the heating of the house.
  • Thanks to the accumulation of thermal energy by the main wall, it is possible to extend the growing season of plants: late frosts in spring and early autumn become less dangerous for them.
  • The glazed surface of a wall-mounted greenhouse is smaller than that of a stand-alone one. This makes it possible to save on its heating in cold weather.
  • A compact greenhouse with a good design, located near the wall, can decorate the local area. To do this, it is better to choose colorful flower arrangements as filling, which is practiced in the West. But the original mini-garden, located in a small-sized greenhouse, will also be an excellent trend solution.

Greenhouse in the capital extension

In the role of a mini-greenhouse of this type can act as capital extension to the house, as well as a lightweight rack-type structure fixed on the wall of a residential building or other building. The same purpose will be served by a mobile greenhouse-cabinet, a portable greenhouse with nice design. Consider the photo below - perhaps you will get some ideas for arranging such structures on your territory.

Now you know a lot about compact greenhouses and hotbeds, you can consciously make a choice and make your favorite model with your own hands. And if, without having the necessary skills, you doubt your capabilities, then, having chosen one of the structures, entrust its construction to specialists.

In cold regions, even heat-loving vegetables can be enjoyed, and a greenhouse will help with this. Thanks to this construction, some crops have time to ripen even in a short summer. You can also grow vegetables while at home. It is enough to make a mini-greenhouse from improvised materials.

Mini greenhouse for seedlings:

General requirements

Undertaking the construction of any greenhouse, it is worth observing the following requirements:

  • Light transmission;
  • Free access to plants to take care of them;
  • Strength;
  • Ventilation indoors.

The aesthetics of the design also play an important role, especially for mini-greenhouses that are at home.

Place for a mini-greenhouse

FOR REFERENCE: Most often, a mini-greenhouse is placed on a glazed loggia.

Such a place should be chosen, focusing on the time of year, the illumination of the territory or the possibility of installing additional equipment there.

Types of mini greenhouses

Types of greenhouses differ from each other in the following ways:

  • Size;
  • Design;
  • Material
  • Appointment.

So, small greenhouses can be installed at home or on a balcony. Portable easy to move from place to place, cover them certain areas soil.

IMPORTANT: There are greenhouses designed only for growing seedlings, and there are those in which the plant can fully develop.

Frame

The most popular greenhouses. You can make them from improvised materials, which means that they will cost inexpensively. Almost all crops can be grown in such buildings.

Greenhouse bread box

Successful design. Can be used for both home growing, and for being on the street. Seedlings, greens, indoor flowers are planted in such a greenhouse.

growbox and thermobox

Unlike the previous types, the growbox is a completely closed box, which maintains its own microclimate. You can even grow in such greenhouses tropical plants. And if you make the front wall in the form of a glazed panel, you can get interesting element interior.

Thermobox - completely closed system, without transparent walls, in which lighting, humidity, and ventilation are maintained with the help of special equipment.

Greenhouse rack

Such greenhouses perfectly save space, because they can be stacked on top of each other. It is good to grow indoor plants, greens, seedlings, vegetables in them.

wigwam

This is one of the simple designs. It is easy to carry, cover seedlings of tomatoes, trees, bushes.

portable

These are light structures, it is not difficult to transport them in the spring from the house to the dacha, move them on the ground. They are intended for planting seedlings and temporary protection of plants.

DIY mini greenhouse for seedlings:

What do we grow in a small greenhouse?

You can grow in mini-greenhouses:

  • seedlings;
  • Receive early strawberries, tomatoes;
  • Grow garlic all year round;
  • Grow flowers from seeds;
  • Engage in selection.

A mini-greenhouse installed on the site will allow growing undersized plants.

DIY mini-greenhouse (small)

All these types of mini-greenhouses are easy to make from the remnants of building materials. For the manufacture of the frame, wood, plastic pipes, a metal bar are suitable. As a coating, you can use a film, polycarbonate, glass, plastic bottles, reinforced film.

Where to begin?

Before starting work, you should:

  1. Think over the drawing;
  2. Calculate the number of shelves, racks;
  3. Think about the heating system;
  4. Calculate the number of lamps for additional illumination.

At the end, you need to choose materials.

Convertible Mini Greenhouse

Good for growing seedlings or vegetables of the right size. You can make such a greenhouse of any height and latitude.

The order of work will be as follows:

  • Build a box of the right size;
  • Tighten the bottom with a reinforced mesh;
  • Strengthen the corners of the greenhouse - they will be the main load;
  • Press the pipes with twist clamps to the lifting frame from the outside;
  • Attach a removable frame from the end of one side.

Limiters should be attached to the top.

Greenhouse - breadbasket

Such a structure can be used both at home and in the country for growing greens, seedlings, standard tomatoes, undersized peppers. Greenhouse sizes may vary.

The lifting side can be either on one side or on two. So, if the width is more than a meter, then it is better to make two such sides.

The technology is as follows:

Now the frame is attached with hinges to the top of the box.

Greenhouse rack

For such a greenhouse, any material from which the shelves are made is used. Then they are combined into a rack, which is covered with a transparent film with a zipper on top. It is easy to unzip for tending plants or ventilating the greenhouse.

Mini-greenhouse "wigwam"

This is most likely a disposable greenhouse. She will need one high bar, metal or plastic pipe. The support is installed in the center, and around at the right distance are small rods, which are connected to the bar with their upper ends. Stretch on top of the structure plastic bag. From below it must be attached with something heavy, and closed from above, limiting the access of air.

If growing seedlings at home is impossible, but the climate of your region allows you to do it right on your summer cottage, we suggest building a greenhouse for seedlings. With its help, it will be possible to drive seedlings into as soon as possible.

The greenhouse is the simplest design. Most often, this is an ordinary arc, wooden or even wire frame covered with a film, but there are also more practical solutions.

Before deciding to grow seedlings in a greenhouse, make sure that the climate is conducive to this. For example, in the middle lane it will not work to grow seedlings of blue and pepper in greenhouses, since the night low temperature this will not allow, but it is quite realistic that you can raise seedlings of cabbage, radish, tomatoes.

It is very important that the night temperature should not be lower than +7+8°C, while the daytime temperature should reach +12+15°C at the same time. Often, this is the middle of spring.

If it is difficult to guess with the timing, there will be no particular problems, just seedlings will germinate a little later, say, not after 2-2.5 weeks, but after 3-4. But, as usual, the seedlings manage to get stronger by the end of April or the beginning of May. Only one thing is important here - to use a high-quality substrate, prepared seeds, and also follow the rules of cultivation!

Choosing a place for a greenhouse in the country

It is desirable to determine in the country a flat and quiet place for a greenhouse. It can even be a playground in the garden, because while the seedlings are being forced, there are still no leaves on the trees, and the shade will not interfere with the development of crops.

Try to keep the building conveniently located, optimize its location as much as possible, for example, not far from the barn, water tap, and so on.

Design parameters

Before starting construction, you can draw up a work plan or just a diagram in which to paint optimal dimensions in length and width, choose the height and choose the material.

These are the most comfortable dimensions not only for working on the site, but also for construction. Here, the minimum material costs, the load on the frame, the convenience of covering with polyethylene, and so on are calculated.

The simplest do-it-yourself polyethylene greenhouse

Right away we want to tell you how to build a simple and cheap greenhouse for growing seedlings. Today we need to take care of healthy planting material, and not about the beauty of the site or structures, and therefore we do everything correctly and save as much as possible (anyway, after growing seedlings, we will remove the structure from the site).

So, in order not to spend money, we suggest building from improvised materials, you will only need to buy a film.

Arcs for the frame

Arcs can be used from last year, borrow extra ones from a neighbor, buy cheap and used ones. But if this is not possible, we make the arcs on our own. These can be metal-plastic pipes that remained after repairs, fittings, metal profiles, thin pipes, thick steel wires, medium-diameter elastic tree branches. At least you can even use wooden beam, but then we get not arcs, but a rectangular frame.

Having determined the place and made the markup according to the parameters that we proposed earlier (or according to your own), install arcs or other frame elements around the perimeter. The maximum step between the arcs is 1 m, so as not to violate the stability and bearing capacity after covering with a film.

Greenhouse device

When the arches are installed, you can lay down a low frame of wood or bricks under them, building, so to speak, a high bed. This is necessary in order to lay a high-quality seedling substrate for planting, in which the seeds will not only give maximum germination, but also quickly turn into strong seedlings.

You can also tie the frame (arcs or wooden beam) with the device of the lower part to increase stability. Using a dozen clamps or a coil of binding wire, you will make sure that the arcs with the film will certainly not fly away with the wind.

Film covering

We have already talked about film greenhouses, and therefore we advise you to choose a film for a greenhouse structure with approximately the same parameters. In short, it should be a material of medium strength and light transmission. Thus, the sun will warm up the structure well, the film will last a long time, and the temperature inside will remain close to stable even at night.

It is advisable to buy the film from the roll, the parameters of which are most consistent with the size of the greenhouse. The stretching of the film is very simple - the material is transferred from one side to the other, evenly stretched in arcs, and a load, even old bricks or pieces of pipes, is tied to the edges of the film below to keep the cover on the frame.

Now we just have to prepare a good soil, find out or remember the agricultural technology of plants, the rules for growing seedlings, and get down to business.

Greenhouse options for seedlings

Greenhouses in the country can be very diverse, and it is far from necessary to build an arc one, if there are more interesting options, but for someone it is more convenient.

Polycarbonate structure

The most practical greenhouse you can buy and just plant the necessary crops inside. With him the least hassle and only positive emotions. But except for one thing - you will have to pay for practicality, and a lot.

Arc film greenhouse

This is practically the same design that we decided to build today, but it comes in a ready-made kit. All you have to do is bring the kit to the dacha, place it on the site and assemble it. Convenient and fast, but again for the money.

Greenhouse thermos

The thermos greenhouse has been studied by us up and down, and the conclusions are unambiguous - an excellent model, functional and practical. Now you can build a similar greenhouse by referring to our scheme or by creating your own. It will be possible to cover the structure with old windows.

A simple greenhouse from windows

A greenhouse from windows is also a passed stage, but now you can, based on the knowledge gained earlier, create something similar for growing seedlings. The only difference is that the design will be many times smaller.

Wooden greenhouse with glass

The image below shows how to knock down the box and install it on the bricks. Good idea, especially if you then cover it with glass, and fill it with high-quality seedling soil inside.

Cheap option for a summer residence

There is nothing easier and cheaper than collecting a place for growing seedlings from improvised materials. Today it is old refrigerators and old windows. As you can see, it doesn't look great, but it works great.

For a serious gardener, the presence of a greenhouse pavilion on the site is mandatory. But for the construction of a stationary structure, not everyone has the place or resources, so a mini-greenhouse is an ideal way out - a simple and effective shelter for plants that can be easily assembled from available materials.

For all their simplicity, these structures provide an optimal microclimate for plants planted in them and allow not only growing seedlings, but also getting an early harvest.

If you ask a layman who is not privy to the secrets of building construction closed ground than greenhouse shelters differ from greenhouses, you will most likely hear in response - small in size. But this is not entirely true. Among them, there are indeed mini-greenhouses suitable only for growing seedlings, but this is only one small group.

A small shelter in the country can be built independently

The main difference between these two species lies in the way the microclimate is formed under the shelter.

If in the greenhouse the microclimate and biorhythms of plants are close to natural, then a humid warm climate is formed in the greenhouse, saturated with oxygen during the day and carbon dioxide at night. The soil serves as the main source of nutrition, therefore it is quickly depleted and needs regular fertilization. Plants in greenhouse conditions grow intensively due to the rapid accumulation of plastic reserves.

A polycarbonate greenhouse can be compared to a small greenhouse.

  • for thawing and warming the beds in early spring;
  • growing seedlings;
  • distillation of early greens and radishes;
  • early planting of crops with a long vegetative period;
  • protection of plants in the garden from late frosts;
  • acceleration of fruiting;
  • getting several harvests per season;
  • creating an optimal microclimate for heat-loving crops.

Types of greenhouses for beds

Mini-greenhouses for beds are very easy to build yourself. To do this, it is enough to choose a covering material - a film, agrofibre, polycarbonate or glass, prepare supports and correctly orient the entire structure.

Ground covers for insulation

Beds under agrofibre warm up faster

One of the annoying problems of the gardener is the discrepancy between the timing of warming up the soil and the timing of sowing crops. This can be easily corrected with the help of soil shelters. This is done as follows: after the snow melts on the site, the beds are covered with a greenhouse film or agrofibre.

The soil under the shelter warms up 10-14 days earlier, and the temperature under the film is 10 ° C higher than the ambient temperature, which allows you to plant seedlings earlier, sow greens or vegetable seeds when the weather has not yet settled.

The simplest tunnel shelter on arches

Tunnel shelter on arches

This small greenhouse of the "Snowdrop" type is easy to build from improvised means - agrofiber, PVC film or polyisopropylene. Suitable for growing seedlings, forcing greenery and for early planting in the ground. Arches are used as supports, which can be made of thick steel wire, galvanized profile, metal-plastic pipe or from long rods.

How to make a homemade mini-greenhouse with your own hands:

  1. Prepare a site for construction. If necessary, lay compost or manure under the bed, pour 30-40 cm of fertile soil on top. It is better to make the width of the beds 0.6-1 m, length - 2.5-3 m, orientation - from north to south. Along the perimeter, you can protect the bed with boards so that the earth does not slip.
  2. Depending on the length of the ridge, prepare 6 or 7 pieces of pipes about 2 m long and 12-14 pegs (50 cm) for hammering into the ground and fastening the arches. If there are no pegs, then it is better to take pipes half a meter longer in order to securely fix them in the ground.
  3. Bend pipes into arcs up to a meter high. You can make a special template on the board or use a large iron barrel of a suitable diameter.
  4. On the long sides of the future twinkling greenhouse, drive in pegs every 50 cm. Fix arches on them (or stick arcs into the ground 25-30 cm below the soil level).
  5. Install a connecting bar on the arches or simply tie the arches together with a cord or wire.
  6. Fix the film or agrofibre. You can use clips or just tie.
  7. On north side collect the hanging end of the covering material, pull and fasten, on the south you can leave it free.
  8. Fix the film on the soil around the perimeter. It is better to take stones for this, and not to sprinkle with earth, since from time to time you will need to lift the film to access the plants.

Box with transparent lid

Cassette mini-greenhouse is ideal for growing seedlings and early radishes. A box with a height of 40-50 cm is made for it from boards, the width and height of the frame are chosen according to the size of the upper shelter. For early sowing of seeds into the soil, it is recommended to choose soil in the box to a depth of 40 cm and fill the hole with biofuel. The fertile layer is 20 cm of ordinary soil. For pallets with peat tablets, it is better to make the frame small - 0.5 m * 1 m.

Cassette greenhouse with peat tablets

For the cover, you can take old window frames or tighten the top with a film (or better, with agrofibre). You can also use thick glass or triplex, but in this case you need to ensure that the edge is sealed or carefully sanded. After seedlings under cover, you can grow young greens - onions on a feather, spices, watercress.

It is better to orient such a structure from south to north.

Modification of a cassette greenhouse - a box with a transparent lid. Its difference is that the upper frame is set at an angle with respect to the soil surface. They are arranged along the length from east to west, the southern side of the frame is usually twice as low as the northern one. The dimensions of the box are arbitrary, and for better illumination of plants, it can be made of polycarbonate roof.

Butterfly house - a convenient portable shelter

A mini-greenhouse like a "house" or "butterfly" is suitable not only for growing seedlings. Depending on the height, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cabbages, cucumbers and other vegetables can be planted in it for early harvests. You can assemble such shelters from improvised materials - boards, slats, films, agrofiber, polycarbonate.

Butterfly greenhouse scheme

The easiest way to make such a design is to mount a frame of slats and cover it with a film or sheathe it with polycarbonate. Under polycarbonate, the frame can be assembled from a galvanized profile.

A distinctive detail of this type of greenhouses - the gable "roof" is made movable on both sides. This makes it easier to ventilate and care for the plants.

Cucumbers in the greenhouse "house" under the film

To grow cucumbers, you need a mini-greenhouse of a slightly different design:

  1. At the chosen place, prepare a bed for two rows of plants and make a wooden harness. Such a "house" can be arranged on the south side of the house, but the seeds in it must be sown in one row.
  2. Fasten the racks for the side walls on the harness. The height of the central pillar is 1.5 meters.
  3. Connect the central racks with a longitudinal bar. Twine for gartering cucumbers will also be attached to it, so you need to make it strong.
  4. Sew up the sides with film, glass or polycarbonate.
  5. A removable roof can be made in the form of a frame with sheathing, or a film, which, if necessary, is simply rolled up and tied up.

Original solutions for country beds

Home greenhouses are not only a significant help for the gardener, but also a way to realize their creative ambitions. These designs once again prove that a thrifty owner will find use even for a piece of straw or the remnants of a film.

Straw-protected crops

Greenhouse made of straw and window frames

In horticulture, straw is often used for mulching beds and as a material for insulation. perennials in winter. In this design, straw bales act as building material for the box. Due to the properties of straw, it is good to retain heat and moisture.

The air under the glass warms up quickly, and the plants get a head start in two to three weeks. Window frames or polycarbonate are used as a cover.

Straw bales and frame with film - efficient design

Film protective umbrellas

Late frosts are a serious threat to the crop. Sometimes you have to literally save the beds from death - to spud all the plants or urgently cover especially valuable specimens with straw. But the problem can be solved in another way.

Individual "umbrellas" of two arcs and a piece of film or agrofiber are able to protect against frost. The arches are fastened with construction tape, the film is fastened with clips.

The same devices can be used for glasses with seedlings during the hardening period - during the day the plants are hardened, and at night they are securely hidden from hypothermia.

Two arcs and agrofibre will save you from frost

Old plastic barrel - in business

If the farm has an old plastic barrel of 200 liters, then in half an hour you can build a roomy greenhouse mini-greenhouse. You can grow seedlings, herbs, even mushrooms in it. The design retains heat and moisture well. In addition to the barrel, you will need construction scissors, film and construction tape. See the video for detailed instructions.

Grids and pallets - an excellent frame

The framework for the simplest tunnel shelter can be assembled in an hour from waste materials. Grids, pallets, regular slats or thin boards will come in handy. The finished sections are fastened with adhesive tape and covered with agrofiber. The soil in the beds warms up quickly, and seeds can be sown.

Sections are held together with adhesive tape.

Under such a roof, the soil warms up quickly

The use of wood helps to avoid any negative - it does not rust, does not emit chemical substances, does not react with fertilizers and herbicides.

Second life for old refrigerators

Good mini-greenhouses are obtained from old refrigerators, which are easy to get in landfills or from neighbors.

The engine, cooling system and door are removed from the body. The lid is made of glass or polycarbonate. Refrigerators keep temperature and humidity well, so an ideal microclimate is created inside. The only thing you need to worry about is the drainage holes under the ground, because without them, excess moisture will lead to root rot and crop death.

Greenhouses from old refrigerators in the country

Polycarbonate for mini structures

Small polycarbonate greenhouses are light, durable and comfortable. From this material it is easy to build almost any model of a mini-shelter. The only drawback is that such construction can be expensive. But it is not necessary to buy specially whole sheets. You can use the pieces left after the large-scale construction of a gazebo or greenhouse.

In addition to polycarbonate, you will need material for the frame (rails or galvanized profile), screws and a suitable scheme.

Small greenhouses for the apartment

For a keen summer resident, the garden season begins in February. And it does not matter that the entire area is covered with snow - seedlings can also be grown on the windowsill. And small homemade greenhouses made from improvised materials will help in this.

Trays for peat tablets

Popular peat pellet trays can be bought, but it's cheaper to make your own from an egg tray and plastic containers (bottles or cake boxes). Water the seedlings in tablets through the pan.

Operating procedure:

  1. Drill a hole for drainage in each recess of the tray.
  2. Choose a suitable plastic packaging (tray and cap). If there is no large container, then the egg tray can be cut. You need to drill several holes in the cap for air exchange.
  3. Put in each cell peat tablet and water.
  4. After 10 minutes, the tablets will swell and seeds can be sown in them.
  5. Place the seed trays in trays and close.

The egg tray will replace the peat tablet tray

If there is no suitable container, then the cap for a mini-greenhouse can be made from plastic plastic bottles:

  • Carefully cut transparent bottles.
  • From the panels cut out 5 rectangles for the box (do not forget the allowances for gluing). Choose the size so that the tablet tray fits freely inside.
  • Glue the box cap with tape.
  • Use a tray as a pallet.

plastic box

Cake or cookie containers can also be used to grow seedlings. Holes are drilled in the walls for drainage and ventilation, the soil is filled up - and the mini-greenhouse is ready for sowing.

Mini greenhouse made of plastic containers

Plastic bottles as greenhouses

Waste material - plastic bottles, in skillful hands gardeners often turn into useful tools. In addition to irrigation devices, mini-format greenhouses are often made from plastic containers.

Method 1. Greenhouse-glass for seedlings:

  1. Cut two bottles in half
  2. Put the upper part into the lower glass of the first bottle and fill with soil.
  3. Sow the seeds and close the bottle with the second top.
  4. Don't forget the drainage holes.

Growing in a bottle

Method 2. Seedlings in bottles:

  1. Cut a bottle of 6-10 liters lengthwise, leaving the thread intact.
  2. Drill holes in both halves
  3. Fill the bottom with soil and sow the seeds.
  4. Close and seal the cut with tape.

Plastic bottle greenhouse

Home mini-greenhouses are a good alternative to industrial polycarbonate and tunnel structures. It is easy to build them, and you can use them both in the apartment and in the beds, so show your imagination and be creative, then your harvest will always be rich.
