Types of iron meshes. Steel mesh, types. Tensile strength

It is widely used in all branches of modern industry - in mechanical engineering, in the agricultural sector, in construction, and in any other area of economic activity.

Depending on the material of manufacture, the mesh is: steel, stainless and galvanized with polymer coated. There are types of mesh and the method of its manufacture, and the thickness. At present, the production of such types of steel mesh has been established, such as:

  • wicker (or netting);
  • galvanized;
  • steel welded;
  • woven (or plaster);
  • cut-out.

In fact, steel mesh is a metal product made in the form of a woven fabric or wicker. The main material of manufacture is steel wire, from which cells of various sizes and shapes are woven. This type of mesh is used for sorting all kinds of bulk materials and filtering liquid materials. It is also used to strengthen slopes. In construction, it is indispensable for performing operations such as screeding and reinforcing walls. A simpler application of steel mesh, but no less important, is the manufacture of fences, fences, animal cages, etc.

Each type of steel mesh has its own characteristics, manufacturing specifics and scope.

Chain-link mesh (woven) is made on special machines with manual or automatic drive, without heat treatment. On machines, low-carbon steel wire spirals are intertwined. The wire can be PVC coated or galvanized. The chain-link is used for screening bulk materials, filtering solutions, building enclosures, fences and fences.

Galvanized steel mesh is durable and highly reliable. The main features of this type of mesh: enhanced strength and resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations, various aggressive environments. It is this species that is used for the construction of aviaries and cages, the installation of fences and fences. It is also widely used to strengthen thermal insulation coatings and reinforce brickwork. It is also useful in cases where it is required to obtain fine fractions of building bulk materials.

Such a metal mesh is produced from low-carbon wire, the thickness of which is from 0.6 mm to 2 mm. In the construction of roads, a grid with a large mesh size of 50 x 50 x 4 mm is more practical from a technological point of view. The shape of the cells in such a grid can be either square or rectangular, the cells are connected by contact welding.

When plastering work, a plaster or woven mesh is used. It is an excellent tool for leveling wall surfaces and filtering solutions. This type of grid is made of steel wire - low-carbon and high-alloy. The wire can be galvanized or non-galvanized. Woven steel mesh has fine meshes and resembles woven fabric. It is often used as a sieve for bulk materials in construction.

Expanded mesh is made from a single sheet of metal with a thickness of 0.5 mm to 2 mm. Grid cells are obtained by cutting them into a metal sheet and stretching. For the manufacture, mainly stainless low-carbon or galvanized steel is used. The main scope of this type of mesh is plastering and puttying, as well as the manufacture of fences, cages and aviaries.

Metal mesh is a very simple element of a huge variety building structures. But behind the unpretentious simplicity, there are many subtleties, features, types and subspecies of this building material. This article will help you understand the main types of metal mesh, help you choose one or another type of mesh that is suitable for your needs, and also tell you about the choice of the required quality.

The list opens with a simple welded mesh (GOST 3282-74), its name fully characterizes the method of its manufacture. These are rows of perpendicular steel wire welded at the intersection points. Most often you can find a mesh 1 or 1.5 meters wide, less often a wire 1.3, 1.8, 2 meters wide reveals itself. As a rule, the length of the mesh roll reaches 25-30 meters. The diameter of the wire rods varies between 2-4 millimeters, and different size cells from 6 to 50 mm and different form(square or rectangular). It should be remembered that the smaller the cell size, the large stock the mesh will have strength. Since steel is very susceptible to corrosion, it is characterized by galvanizing (zinc coating process). Technically, there are four types of galvanizing, but without delving into technological features, we can say that the amount of zinc will be directly proportional to the service life, which should be paid attention to when buying. Polymers are used as a corrosion protection option. And here's to you important advice- specify the diameter of the steel core in such designs, because the strength of the mesh is the key to a long service life. The polymer coating, of course, will significantly increase the resistance to moisture, salts and other chemical influences, but will not be able to compensate for the density of steel. Welding mesh is used for: reinforcing the pavement, masonry, floors, plaster, as well as for the manufacture of cages (aviaries), greenhouses and fencing. Such metal meshes are an example of a simple, but very practical design facilitating the construction process whole line useful features. You can find a variety of options that meet any need, so the company "Interstroy" has the most diverse grid on this site www.interstroynn.ru.

Next worth mentioning construction material in the form of a reinforcing mesh (GOST 23279-85). As you might guess, a reinforcing mesh is a mesh made of reinforcement (more precisely, corrugated wire) welded from perpendicular rods at their intersection points. Metal rods have a diameter of 3 to 40 mm (they are divided into heavy rod diameters from 12 mm, and light ones with a rod diameter of up to 10 mm), the mesh size can vary from 50 to 250 mm. This type of metal mesh is extremely widespread, the range of application of the reinforcing mesh is unusually wide. Despite its impressive size, it can be used as a mesh for plaster, although more often, of course, it is used as a material for strengthening a wall frame or reinforcing a foundation. It copes well with reinforcing brickwork, erecting fences, constructing aviaries and cages. As well as simple welded mesh, the reinforcement mesh can be galvanized or coated with a layer of polymers to improve the protective properties in the face of corrosion from moisture and aggressive chemical attack. The reinforcing mesh covered with a protective layer can effectively and for a long time serve as a fence or an aviary, not succumbing to negative influences environment.

I ask you to love and favor, the chain-link mesh familiar to everyone and everyone (GOST 5336-80). This grid is named after its German progenitor, the German inventor Karl Rabitz (in a different version of Rabitz) back in 1878. The mesh manufacturing process is very simple, a wire spiral is screwed into one another on a special machine. The raw material is small diameter, low carbon steel wire to provide a high level of elasticity and flexibility. There are mesh options made from of stainless steel or aluminium. But due to the imperfection of these materials in relation to the chain-link, they are not very popular with consumers. Of course, the trend towards coating the mesh with polymer and galvanizing also affected here, which in turn significantly increases the service life and resistance to aggressive environments, which is especially important due to the small diameter of the rod, and its insufficient resistance to weather conditions, as well as chemical influences. It should be remembered that a galvanized chain-link in a salty environment (by the sea) can oxidize, regardless of the quality and quantity of zinc, and a polymer one will be much more acceptable here. The average height of a roll supplied to the market is 1.5 meters, the average length is 10 meters. However, as a rule, the manufacturer can fulfill an order for a height of one to four meters, with a length of up to 20 meters. Be sure to pay attention to the ends of the mesh rolls, they must be tightly packed in strong paper, burlap or artificial fabric. The mesh is perfect for installing fencing and assembling an aviary, and can also sometimes be used for applying plaster.

For example, steel meshes are used for the following purposes:

  1. Filtration of solutions. For such tasks, canvases with small cells are used.
  2. Sorting of loose materials.
  3. Strengthening slopes in order to protect them from shedding and erosion.
  4. Floor screeds.
  5. Reinforcement of walls during their construction.
  6. Production of fences, enclosures for animals and many other purposes.

The MS company is engaged in realization of grids of any kind and guarantees high quality of production.

Expanded mesh

This all-metal mesh is used for the following tasks:

  1. Reinforcement of surfaces during construction work and before finishing walls with tiles or plaster.
  2. Formation of steps and flights of stairs.
  3. Flooring creations.
  4. production ventilation grilles, industrial cabinets, fences, trash cans and durable containers.
  5. Soil screening.
  6. Making cages for birds.
  7. Manufacture of housings for filters in automobiles.

The purpose depends on the size of its cells.

Advantages and differences

This type of mesh got its name due to the method of production. In its manufacture, wire for weaving is not used. The mesh is made from solid steel sheet on which cuts are preliminarily applied. Then the sheet is stretched, and diamond-shaped cells are formed at the cut sites. Among the advantages of this product should be highlighted:

  1. Light weight.
  2. Good strength. Since the product is made from a single sheet, its cells do not deform under heavy loads, so the fabric always retains a uniform structure.
  3. Good light and breathability. Thanks to this characteristic, the net can be used to create aviaries in poultry farms and other small animal farms.
  4. Reliability and attractive appearance. A fence or urn made of expanded metal mesh can be painted and in this way increase the aesthetics of the product.
  5. Excellent adhesion to surfaces. This kind of grid has a well-defined embossed surface, which holds the finishing materials well on the walls of the room.

Welded mesh

Another type of this product is. It is used for:

  1. Strengthening reinforced concrete structures.
  2. Fence manufacturing.
  3. Production of frames for any purpose.
  4. Road linings.
  5. Foundation arrangements.
  6. Reinforcing masonry and glass.
  7. Arrangement of balconies and greenhouses.

Like other types of nets, these products may have cells different sizes.

Also, their purpose is affected by the diameter of the wire used in the production.

Advantages and differences

This type of steel mesh is made of strong reinforcement, connected to each other by means of spot welding. For the production of such rods, low-carbon steel is used, which can be coated with zinc or polymer (the presence of a coating must be specified at the time of purchase).

Reinforcing bars are welded perpendicular to each other. The result is square-shaped cells. Similar structure and presence protective coating endow the welded mesh with certain advantages. For example, these products:

  1. Not susceptible to rust.
  2. They have a long service life.
  3. Easily transported. Welded mesh is very elastic, so it can be rolled up and transported to its destination.

Rabitz

The next type of grid is considered ideal solution for many tasks. After all, the most economical in terms of manufacturing and easy to install. They make from it:

  1. Fence sections and solid decorative barriers.
  2. Fences for garden plots, as well as for industrial and private areas.
  3. Cages and enclosures for animals.

Also, this material is suitable for strengthening plaster on walls, fixing insulation, reinforcing mines and mine workings, protecting against rockfalls and soil collapse in hazardous areas.

Advantages and differences

The fabric for the chain-link is made from wire rods pre-curved in the form of a zigzag. Each rod has a high quality zinc coating. The rods are connected to each other using a special machine that weaves the wire, forming square or diamond-shaped cells. Among the main advantages of such canvases, it is worth highlighting:

  1. Good wear resistance.
  2. Immunity to high temperatures.
  3. Rust resistant. The zinc layer protects the wire from corrosion. This layer is sufficient for the mesh to serve for at least 25 years without being destroyed by moisture.

masonry mesh

This type of product is a kind of welded mesh. It is used for the following tasks:

  1. Reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures, including the basement and foundation of the building.
  2. Floor screeds.
  3. Cover reinforcements.
  4. Road laying.
  5. Alignment and strengthening of walls during the construction of brick buildings. A wall reinforced with masonry mesh is less affected weather conditions and mechanical damage.
  6. Finishing work, such as laying tiles or plastering walls.
  7. Fencing plots, verandas and gazebos. Also this grid is suitable for a protection of children's and sports grounds.
  8. Mine fortifications.
  9. Production of cages for small animals.
  10. Arrangement of greenhouses and greenhouses.

Advantages and differences

It is also made of wire using spot welding. But for its production, rods with a diameter of 3-5 mm are used. In some cases, it is possible to increase the thickness of the wire up to 6 mm. The finished canvas can have cells of different sizes and has the following advantages:

  1. High strength.
  2. Rust resistant.
  3. Profitability of production, reflected in the final cost of the goods.

Grid VR1

Another popular type of welded mesh is BP1. These products are successfully used for the following purposes:

  1. Strengthening concrete floors and foundations.
  2. Alignment and reinforcement of the plaster layer during finishing work in the premises.
  3. styling pavement in order to strengthen them.
  4. Production of reinforced concrete structures for any purpose.
  5. Territory fencing.
  6. Alignment and strengthening of brick and block walls during the construction of buildings.
  7. Creation of frames for greenhouses and other light buildings.

Advantages and differences

It is made of reinforcement with a diameter of 3-6 mm by spot welding. In this case, welding is not carried out manually, but using a special machine. The finished fabric has square or rectangular cells with a side length of 5 to 20 cm. BP1 products can be additionally coated with a zinc layer that protects products from rust. But this type of rolled metal is also produced without coating (in this case, it has more low price). Therefore, it is better to check the features of a particular product before buying.

The main advantage of this mesh can be considered its good adhesion to building materials. It is facilitated by the features of the BP1 wire. This reinforcement has a corrugated surface, with which it is perfectly fixed in concrete and other hardening mortars.

Mesh masonry galvanized

In addition to the usual masonry mesh, there is also a galvanized modification of it. It is used for:

  1. Manufacture of reinforced concrete structures, as well as cement products.
  2. Creation of agricultural structures (enclosures, cages for animals).
  3. Glass reinforcement.
  4. Arrangement of barriers.

Advantages and differences

This type of mesh is also produced by spot welding using a special welding machine. It has square-shaped cells, the sizes of which are selected for specific needs. The main advantages of such canvases can be called their immunity to moisture, ultraviolet and other environmental influences. These characteristics are associated with the presence of a protective coating of zinc. It prevents the development of rust, therefore making it possible to use in places unprotected from rain or in areas with high humidity.

Galvanized reinforcing mesh

It is considered a universal material for various construction tasks. It is used for:

  1. Production of concrete panels and slabs.
  2. Foundation reinforcement.
  3. Alignment and strengthening of walls made of brick or concrete blocks. Similar work is carried out during the construction of buildings.
  4. Construction of bridges and strong supports.
  5. Road laying.
  6. Floor screeds.
  7. Reinforcing plaster on walls in rooms.
  8. Manufacturing of agricultural structures. Such structures include enclosures, greenhouse frames, cages and fences.

Advantages and differences

Reinforcing mesh is made of rods of different diameters. Their thickness depends on the type of finished product. For example, for a thinner mesh, rods with a diameter of 3-10 mm are used. They belong to the category of light metal rolling. For more serious structures, heavy rolled metal is needed. Its thickness can reach 40 mm.

Like any welded mesh, reinforcing mesh is produced by spot welding using stationary equipment. The rods are welded perpendicular to each other and form square cells. In this case, the working reinforcement can be directed in different directions, or it will be located transversely or longitudinally.

During the manufacture of this mesh, two welding modes are possible: normal or high precision. The quality of the finished product depends on the choice of mode. Regardless of the mode and size, all products have a zinc coating that protects the mesh from aggressive environments.

Reinforcing mesh has the following advantages:

  1. Rust protection.
  2. Versatility in use. These steel sheets can be used for any need. The main thing is that the cell sizes fit your needs.
  3. Ease of installation. Reinforcing mesh is easy to use in construction. It greatly reduces the construction time of buildings, guarantees their reliability and reduces the amount of building materials needed for the construction. As a result, the construction of the building becomes more cost-effective.

Welded galvanized mesh

In addition to the usual welded mesh, there are also galvanized products of the same type. It is used for the following tasks:

  1. Creating barriers around dachas, private houses and fields.
  2. Facade reinforcements.
  3. Strengthening road surfaces.
  4. Reinforcing paving slabs.
  5. Strengthening the walls of pools.
  6. Construction of cages and pens for farm animals.
  7. Fencing fields and pastures and many other tasks.

Advantages and differences

This material is made from steel wire by spot welding. In this case, the rods may initially have a zinc coating. If the armature does not have it, finished product galvanizing is required. In this case, the already formed grid is dipped into molten zinc.

Consists of rectangular or square cells. Their dimensions depend on the product model. In addition, the product can have not only a zinc coating, but also an additional protective polymer layer. This type of mesh has excellent strength characteristics and looks attractive. However, the presence of a polymer coating is reflected in the cost of the goods.
Important advantages of galvanized welded mesh are its strength and resistance to corrosion. But the high strength of the goods is achieved only by observing all the subtleties of manufacturing. To achieve excellent quality, you need to use rebar of the same thickness and correctly carry out welding work.

All considered types can be found in the MS company. Our company works with proven metal plants in Russia. Therefore, all rolled metal from our catalog is of high quality and meets all state standards.

Fence mesh is one of the most common building materials that are used to build fences. This material has a fairly long service life, it is convenient and practical, and also inexpensive. It is easy to mount and dismantle with your own hands, as well as reuse after dismantling. Products can be used not only to mark the boundaries of the territory, but also for the frame of a hedge and as decorative element. The article talks about the types of grids and how to install them.

Types of fence nets

The chain-link mesh is represented by the following main types:

  • non-galvanized
  • galvanized
  • plasticized

Non-galvanized is the cheapest option, but has the shortest service life, as it is susceptible to corrosion. Unlike it, galvanized is covered with a protective anti-corrosion layer, and therefore its cost is higher. The metal in the plasticized composition is covered with a layer of plastic that protects against negative environmental influences. This option is the most expensive, although the most durable.

In addition, models are divided into rhombic and square (according to the shape of the cells), standard and lightweight.

Plastic Mesh Fence

Plastic products appeared on the construction market quite recently. She gradually begins to compete metal products. It is based on an extruded polymer from which fibers are made.

Advantages and disadvantages

Key Benefits plastic products called:

  • Ability to choose the color, size, shape of the cells;
  • Ease of transportation and installation;
  • High resistance to negative environmental factors;
  • Ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures;
  • Durability;
  • Safety and non-toxicity of the material;
  • Ease of care.

Plastic mesh fences

However, among the advantages, there is also a significant disadvantage plastic fencing: its strength. For example, such a fence will not be able to serve as a barrier to intruders. Therefore, fences made of such material are recommended to be used to delimit individual territories inside a summer cottage (garden) plot, for example, lawns and flower beds.

To install a plastic fence, you do not need the help of professional builders. After all, for its installation, it will be enough to bury the support pillars at a distance of 2-3 meters from each other, without even concreting them. The canvas itself is attached to the supports with wire or beautiful garters. To increase the rigidity of the product, you can lay additional wire wiring on top and bottom of the fence.

Fence netting

It is not for nothing that the chain-link is one of the most popular options for building a fence, because it has a number of advantages. Let us consider in more detail the main pros and cons of such products, as well as the features of their installation.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the advantages of the chain-link are most often called:

  • Long service life;
  • Strength;
  • Ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures;
  • Ease of installation;
  • Low cost;
  • Possibility of reuse after dismantling;
  • free penetration sun rays without possible shading;
  • High protective function;
  • The possibility of supplementing the structure with barbed wire or electric fence;
  • Ease of care.

Having decided to protect your site with the help of a chain-link, you should be well aware of not only its advantages, but also its disadvantages, among which are the insecurity of the fenced area from prying eyes, as well as a non-prestigious appearance. In addition, with its help it will be quite difficult to build a fence exceeding 3.5 meters.

How to install yourself

Mounting can be done in two ways: sectional and tension method. Consider a simpler option, that is, we will tell you how to build a fence using a tension method.

Chain link fence installation

To fix the canvas, you will need support poles, both metal and wooden. To install them, it is necessary to dig holes in the ground, the bottom of which is desirable to strengthen with sand and gravel. Wooden poles are installed in the prepared holes, sprinkling them with earth and ramming it. For better shrinkage, it is recommended to fill the filled hole with water so that the soil becomes denser. metal poles need to be concreted. Therefore, the prepared pits are filled with ordinary concrete mortar. It is also necessary to ensure that all poles have the same height and are installed strictly vertically.

After installing all the supports and hardening of the concrete, they proceed to stretching the mesh. To do this, a roll with it is placed near one of the corner posts and securely fixed with nails (staples) on wooden poles, or on pre-welded hooks on metal supports. When the canvas is fixed on the first support, they begin to unwind the roll, moving to the second column, where the fastening operation is repeated. At the same time, it should be ensured that the lower edge of the non-galvanized product does not touch the surface of the soil, but is located at a distance of 10 cm from it. To prevent the canvas from sagging, it is necessary to fasten it with some tension, using for this steel cable or a piece of reinforcement passed through the cells at the top or bottom of the canvas. To dock two rolls together, use special docking elements, in other words, simply screw the end of one roll into the beginning of the other. The tensioning process continues until the entire fence is tightened around the perimeter.

Welded

More time-consuming is the construction of a fence from a welded mesh. In this case, the canvas is pre-welded into steel frames. This type has proven to be the strongest and most durable, so it is most often used to protect various sports facilities and private areas. Since the welded product is based on a strong steel wire with a diameter of 3-5 mm, it is produced not in rolls, but in cards, the size of which is 2x2.5 meters.

External features of welded products

The sectional design makes it possible to carry out various design solutions. In addition, it has special strength and reliability, because all the rods that make up the canvas are welded to each other at the intersections. In addition, each fragment is additionally equipped with stiffeners, which are responsible for maintaining the original shape of each card and the fence as a whole.

Advantages and disadvantages

An attractive feature of the welded model is its moderate cost at high quality. You can also highlight the following advantages of the product:

  • Free access to sunlight and good circulation of air and light;
  • Light weight design;
  • Resistance to adverse environmental factors;
  • Surface safety;
  • Ease of installation;
  • Ability to replace a damaged fragment;
  • Ease of care;
  • Aesthetics.

Along with the advantages, one can single out such a disadvantage as excessive visibility of the territory. However, it is easy to fix it by planting green spaces or climbing plants along the hedge.

How to install yourself

For self-assembly more effort and time will be required. So, excavation consist in digging a trench 1 meter deep and 0.5 meter wide around the entire perimeter of the fence. The bottom of the trench is reinforced with a mixture of crushed stone and sand, on which a formwork with a reinforcing cage is installed. In this case, the formwork should rise 20 cm above the ground surface. In other words, work is being carried out on the construction of a strip foundation.

Then proceed to the installation of supports and pouring the foundation. After the mortar has hardened, the sections are fastened using special fasteners or a welding machine. Each frame can be additionally reinforced with a corner.

Euro mesh fence

Among all types of welded mesh, models with a special polymer coating, the so-called euro mesh, are especially popular. This material allows you to get a strong and beautiful fence for a relatively low price. The fabric is woven from steel wire coated with PVC. Its diameter is 2.5 mm, and the size of the cells can be different: 50x50 mm and 100x50 mm. In the construction market, the material is sold in rolls, 2 m and 1.5 m high and 25 m long, each of which is packed in thick paper and polyethylene.

Advantages and disadvantages

Fences built using this material have greater rigidity and reliability at a low price, and therefore compete with wire fences made of chain-link, corrugated board or wood. The thing is that the polymer covering the wire is much thicker and denser. polymer paint, it does not crack and does not burn out, as a result of which there is no need to additionally cover the wire with zinc, which reduces its price. In addition, PVC-coated steel mesh fences look much more interesting than chain-link fences, and therefore can be used in landscape design.

Euro mesh fences

Quite often, such material is sold complete with supporting pillars, the installation of which does not require concreting. Therefore, the construction of the fence can be made at any time of the year. In addition, the PVC coated fence can be easily dismantled and reused elsewhere.

How to install yourself

A fence made of such material is quite easy to mount on your own. Since the material itself is highly rigid, there is no need to install support poles more often than every 3 meters. The roll is easily and conveniently untwisted and stretched between the posts. The algorithm is the same as when installing a conventional chain-link. It includes the marking of the territory, the installation of support pillars and the direct installation of the grid itself.

How to choose a fence mesh

When choosing a grid for the construction of a fence, you should decide for what purpose the fence will be erected and what requirements are imposed on it. For example, products made of thin wire with large cells are completely unsuitable for fencing a large area, since it quickly deforms.

When choosing the type of fabric for the construction of the fence, it is recommended to pay attention to the size of its cells. You should know that the smaller the cells, the stronger the canvas. The stronger the fabric, the less light it passes through itself. Therefore, you need to choose the material based on your own requirements. For example, the best option for the suburban area there will be a model with a cell size of 40-60 mm, which has sufficient strength and passes the required amount sunlight. For sports field fencing better fit a product with cells whose size does not exceed 40 mm, since it is more durable.

You should also pay attention to the material from which the mesh is made. The lowest cost is a simple black non-galvanized. When installing a fence from it, you need to know that this material needs regular painting, as it is prone to rust. Thus, your costs will exceed the original cost. Therefore, a more profitable option would be to purchase a galvanized and painted model. Its service life is about 20 years. A more expensive, but also more reliable option is to use a welded mesh coated with a special PVC coating. For this reason, the choice also depends on your financial capabilities.

Selection by cell size, thickness and width

The choice of mesh for fencing does not depend on the shape of its cells. Here their size matters, as well as the thickness of the wire. They are chosen based on the requirements that apply to the fence. For example, a model with large meshes made of thin wire is not suitable for fencing an area where poultry is kept. You should know that the larger the cells, the more transparent the canvas, and the smaller they are, the denser the canvas. This fact must also be taken into account, because some plants planted along the fence need a lot of sunlight, and therefore a product with small cells is not suitable for them.

It must also be understood that the larger the cell, the thinner the wire from which the mesh itself is made. thin wire prone to sagging and rapid deformation, therefore not suitable for fencing large territories and needs frequent installation of support pillars. For this reason, a mesh with a thickness of 2-3 mm is most often chosen. At the same time, you should know that if it has a polymer coating, then the actual diameter of the metal is 0.4-0.5 mm less.

  • Cell size. All of them should be the same and even.
  • The edges of the canvas. They should be bent and well cut.
  • Roll weight. It should not exceed 80 kg.
  • Manufacturer information. It contains not only the name, but also the dimensions of the material, as well as the date of its production.

Reviews: which mesh netting is better for a fence

When choosing a chain-link for fencing, it will be wise to be guided not only by personal preferences and the advice of sellers, but also listen to the reviews of those who have already made a purchase or put the fence into operation. At the same time, pay attention to reviews about the price of the product, its quality and durability, as well as the simplicity and method of installation.

Price category

You should be aware that the cost depends on the width of the roll itself, the thickness of the wire and the size of the cells. The thicker the wire and the greater the width, the greater the weight of the roll, and hence its price. In addition, the cost depends on the availability and type of protective coating. So, the cheapest will be black non-galvanized, and the most expensive - galvanized with PVC coating.

The most popular is a grid with a cell of 50x50 mm. A product with such a cell and a wire thickness of 2.5 mm will be 20% cheaper than with a larger cell and less strong wire.

Quality, degree of reliability

If we are talking about quality, then it would be irrational to purchase a simple non-galvanized mesh, since its service life is not too long. In addition, you will have to additionally paint it, which entails financial costs. Therefore, it is only suitable for the construction of a temporary fence, for example, during construction. by the most the best choice called galvanized mesh. Its cost will be slightly higher (no more than 30% of the raw value), but the service life will be at least 15 years.

If we are talking about a mesh with a polymer coating, then here you should know that the strength of the material depends not so much on the type of polymer, but on the base on which it was applied. Therefore, if an ordinary black mesh is coated with a polymer, then its service life will be only 5-6 years, although the price will be 1.5 higher. It is best when the polymer coating is applied to galvanized wire. This ensures not only the reliability of the mesh, but also its decorative effect, and the cost will be less than one and a half prices from simple galvanization.

Erection speed

The construction of a chain-link fence does not require much effort and time. As a rule, the construction of such a fence does not require concreting of supports, and therefore can be carried out in a fairly short period of time. An exception may be sectional fence from a welded mesh, which has a significant weight. For its construction will require strip foundation with reinforced concrete pillars.

The use of mesh depends on the method of manufacture and shape. Today on the market construction mesh two types can be distinguished - metal and composite. Within these species there are several classifications. Let's consider them in detail, starting with the most popular - metal ones.

Classification of metal meshes

According to GOST 2715-75, the main parameter of the grids is the shape of the cells: square, rectangular, trapezoidal and diamond-shaped, hexagonal and zero.

The second parameter is the cross-sectional shape of the wire. According to this classification, round, flat, square, trapezoidal and T-shaped wires are used in the production of metal mesh.

The third parameter is the cell size, according to which metal meshes are divided into:

  • the smallest and smallest with a cell area of 0.025 mm2 and 0.025-0.25 mm2, respectively;

  • large and extra large with a cell area of 25-625 mm2 and from 625 mm2, respectively.

It is also important to consider the "living section" indicator - the ratio of the area of cells in the light to the area of all cells, expressed as a percentage.

Classification by material of manufacture

Grids can be made of several types of metal:

  • metal-roll from high-alloy steel;
  • from non-ferrous metals and alloys (expensive options);
  • from carbon steel (subdivided into high, medium and low carbon).

In this case, it is worth considering the condition of the metal that is used: annealed or cold-worked type of wire. Depending on the web, the mesh can be coated and uncoated: the mesh covered in the web can be galvanized, coated with plastic and paint, tinned.

Classification by manufacturing method

The metal mesh is divided according to the manufacturing method:

  • wicker GOST 5336-80 - made from round or flat spirals, successively woven into each other;
  • GOST 3826-82 - formed by cross weaving;
  • twisted GOST 13603-89 - produced by the method of alternate twisting of each wire with the neighboring one;
  • corrugated or partially corrugated GOST 3306-88;
  • slotted GOST 9074-85 - assembled from wire grates with a shaped section and fastened with special pins;
  • welded GOST 8478-81 and welded reinforcing GOST 23279-85 - produced by perpendicular arrangement of wires relative to each other and welding them at the intersection;
  • all-metal expanded metal TsPVS (GOST 8706-78) - made by cutting and drawing a sheet of metal;
  • team - produced by interlacing deformed and transverse smooth wire.

Let's look at the above categories in more detail.

Plaster meshes

TsPVS nets, woven and woven belong to the same category, plaster grids, usually used for reinforcing plasters and as an option - for filtering, as a conveyor belt, in agriculture.

woven mesh It is produced by the method of cross-weaving of longitudinal and transverse wires, as a result of which cells of a square shape are formed. Variants with a small cell (zero) are of the type intended for screening and drying, and are regulated by GOST 3187-76.

In the production process, the wire is treated with polymers, which increases its strength and durability: as a result, it becomes resistant to corrosion and aggressive environments.

The material used for woven mesh is woven wire. stainless high carbon or low carbon steel ( woven stainless steel), or from non-ferrous metals (brass woven). The cross-sectional shape can be round, rectangular or square with the same diameter along the entire length. Wire diameter is 0.25-1.6mm with maximum size cells up to 20 mm.

Application of woven metal mesh:

  • for filtering building bulk materials (as a sieve);
  • when carrying out heat-insulating and plastering works in construction during the construction of facades, etc.;
  • for work in agriculture - drying grain, making cells, etc.;
  • V oil industry- mud washing;
  • to protect equipment from overheating in industry;
  • as a reinforcing element on conveyor belts;
  • for air cleaning and pipe insulation.

Expanded mesh is a sheet of metal that has been simultaneously punched and stretched, and then rolled with the edges aligned. Such a mesh easily takes any shape, so it can be used for corner and complex structures. TsPVS can be used not only for plastering, but also for facade, decorative work. Decorative TsPVS are used for landscape design, installation of aesthetic fences, fences.

Wicker mesh (chain-link mesh) - this is a metal mesh, which is made by interlacing spirals (one spiral is woven into another). It can be either galvanized with PVC coating. This type of product is budget options and is most often used in the following areas:

  • reinforcement during plastering and installation of thermal insulation;
  • reinforcement of self-leveling floors, heating mains;
  • screening of loose materials;
  • as mesh for fences and cages.

It is extremely rare that aluminum wire or stainless steel is used to make a chain-link. In plaster and finishing work you will need a product with a cell of 20 mm; other sizes can be used to fence plots, fences, cages. All types plaster meshes are issued in rolls: as a rule, length - 15 meters, height - 1-2 meters. The wire can have a diameter of 108 mm, and the mesh sizes vary from 6 by 6 mm to 100 by 100 mm.

Four types of welded mesh

Welded metal mesh is a product that is produced by spot welding at the intersection of longitudinal and transverse wires of class VR-1 (corrugated or straight) or AIII reinforcing bars located perpendicularly.

Metal welded mesh differs in high durability and happens four types.

  • type - masonry welded mesh, which is used to reinforce brick walls. It is attached to the masonry, evenly distributing its weight, and as a result increases the strength of the structure. Such a grid may have square or rectangular shape and must comply with GOST 8478-81.

Road Welded Mesh used for reinforcing grouting of roads (wire diameter 4-5 mm), reinforcing welded mesh- for reinforcing reinforced concrete structures and screeding floors, ceilings, when constructing foundations, strengthening soils, embankments, walls and during plastering work.

Fence welded mesh it is applied by welding it into the frame and installing a fence. It is characterized by increased strength, therefore sometimes it is installed without a frame.

The diameter of the wire for welded products varies within 0.6-5 mm, for reinforcement - 6-12 mm, with a cell size of 5-200 mm. Welded mesh is produced in roll cards. Corrugated welded mesh (periodic profile) belongs to the category decorative products - it has improved aesthetic performance, because not a rectangular rod is used for its production, but a twisted, corrugated one. This type of metal mesh is most often used for fences, fences. Being durable, it also provides an exterior look.

Gabions - mesh constructions

The mesh structure is a container in the form of a parallelepiped made of a double twist mesh with hexagonal cells. Mesh is produced by twisting two wires in one direction by 180° (minimum 3 twists). The ends of the wire can be spliced by welding, extension.

The gabion is filled with stone or crushed stone and is used in road, civil and industrial construction. The material used is densely galvanized steel wire, which can also be additionally coated with PVC.

Several criteria regarding filler and density:

  • galvanizing density - 37 microns;
  • stones should be larger than cells, the usual fraction of crushed stone is 70-150 mm;
  • the porosity of the finished structure is 30-40%.

The table below shows typical dimensions gabions:

Depending on the shape, gabions are divided into box-shaped and mattress. Standard dimensions of box structures: 1.5-4 meters in length, 0.5-1 meter in height, single width - 1 meter. Dimensions of the mattress structure: length from 3 to 6 meters, height - 0.17-0.5 meters, single width - 2 meters. Both forms have the following classification:

  • box-shaped - flexible permeable structures, usually divided into sections by attaching diaphragms every meter along the length. At the edges, box-shaped gabions are reinforced with wire of a larger diameter than the mesh wire. They are divided into box-shaped with a diaphragm (KD) and without a diaphragm;
  • Jumbo gabions are box-shaped gabions large sizes, 3-6 meters long and 0.5 meters high;
  • Reno mattresses (another name is mattress-mattress) are double twisted mesh constructions with a low height and a large coverage area. They are also divided into sections with an interval of 1 meter along the length, and along the edge they are reinforced with larger diameter wire. They are designated as multi-cellular structures with a diaphragm (mesh brand - MD);
  • Terramesh system (another name is box-shaped reinforced mesh with a panel) - gabions in the form of a front and reinforcing panel made of double twist mesh with hexagonal cells. The front part is divided into sections by diaphragms with steps of 1 meter, the reinforcing part is placed on the body of the embankment, the designation is AD;
  • cylindrical gabions - have the shape of a cylinder made of a double torsion mesh, denoted by the letter C.

Consider these types separately in terms of the material of manufacture and application. Thus, Reno mattresses are used for the foundation of retaining walls made of gabions, in landscape construction (decorative function), as well as for protecting pipes, banks, and strengthening the cones of bridges. They are widely used in hydraulic engineering construction: they lay the banks and bottom of rivers, make the lining of canals and dams.

Reno mattresses are manufactured in accordance with GOST R 51285-99, based on a mesh coated with a wire with PVC or zinc material.

The Terramesh system is a reinforced soil mesh for reinforcing and strengthening slopes from displacement and disturbance of the internal structure of soils. As a result, the systems increase the stability of the arrays. The system modules in the structure are arranged in layers horizontally. For Terramesh, a steel wire mesh with galvanizing or PVC coating is used.

Cylindrical gabions are made of double twist mesh, have a diameter of 0.65 or 0.95 meters, a length of 2-4 meters in accordance with GOST R 52132-2003. The wire of the edges of the panels has a larger diameter than the main wire - this is necessary to strengthen the structure.

Wire mesh for gabions can be galvanized(service life - 35 years), s galvanized(service life - 75 years), with anti-corrosion coating with polymer processing(service life - 75 years).

All gabions in the process of application are filled with any stone - cobblestones, quarry stone, pebbles, etc. The material for filling the mesh container must, in terms of weight and characteristics, correspond to the functional requirements of the building being erected.

When testing gabions for strength, modern researchers obtained the following results (data on the duration of service life under the created conditions):

  • exposure to saline - 1500 hours;
  • exposure to UV rays - 2000 hours at 63°C;
  • exposure to high temperature - 24 hours at 105°C;
  • brittleness test at -30°C.

When installing gabions, you can use special staplers to fasten them together with special rings. The dimensions of the stones must be no more than 25 cm in diameter and a density of at least 1700 kg/m3.

Types of glass meshes: material for "light" finishing

fiberglass mesh- it is a soft mesh material, which is made by weaving and knotting fiberglass threads impregnated with a special solution. The main purpose of such products is to protect surfaces from cracks, to smooth out the effects of temperature and humidity that occur during the operation of buildings. Fiberglass meshes are used for insulation of houses, for external and internal finishing works.

Fiberglass meshes are classified into three types according to their areas of application:

Painting with a cell of 2 by 2 mm, used for filling work with walls and ceilings, alkali-resistant, not subject to rust, withstands temperature and humidity loads, and in addition - has a polyacrylic impregnation, which gives it high strength. It is applied in following works:

  • reinforcement putty, waterproofing;
  • surface protection before painting and gluing.

Stucco fiberglass mesh with a cell of 5 to 5 mm is used in the following works:

  • for plaster and for walls, facades with heat and waterproofing;
  • to restore the cracked plaster layer;
  • reinforcement of self-leveling floors, doors, window boxes at the points of contact with the walls.

Armored fiberglass mesh used in external thermal insulation for reinforcement in case of plastering, as well as for strengthening plaster on the ground floor. Finishing glass mesh with a cell of 10 by 10 mm is used when laying tiles on drywall, as well as when plastering.

Polymer meshes: types and applications

Polymer mesh- this is a building material, which, by means of a bunch of polymer threads among themselves with another polymer thread, forms cells of a square, rectangular shape. The most commonly used raw materials are polypropylene (PP), polyester (PEF) and polyamide (PA) fibers. It is impregnated with a binder based on bitumen, polyethylene, latexes, etc. The temperature conditions for the operation of the PS are in the range from -60°С to +150°С. Polyester mesh is also popular, which is resistant to temperatures up to 125 ° C, to acids.

Any PS can be used as a mesh for a fence, in the construction of sports and playgrounds, as an emergency barrier for dangerous areas. It is actively used in decoration, for reinforcement: it can be masonry, plastering, special facade, for floor screed. Polypropylene mesh will be a successful replacement for metal meshes and glass meshes:

  • increase the strength of screeds: for concrete (up to 78 cm thick), for "warm floors", self-leveling floors, roofing different type, asphalt concrete layers and brickwork;
  • restore walls, bridges, plaster layers up to 3-5 cm thick, screeds in areas window openings, foundations 1-2 cm thick, flat roofs up to 6 cm thick, adhesive layers for tiles and porcelain tiles 0.5-2 cm thick, all brickwork.

Benefits of using polymer meshes:

  • reducing the cost of work, reducing the thickness of concrete and cement screeds up to 25%;
  • increase in the period of non-repair operation of concrete and cement screeds by 3-4 years, asphalt layers of sidewalks and adjoining areas - by 5 years.

The main advantage of polymer meshes over metal meshes is the absence of corrosion.

Classification of composite meshes

Composite mesh- this is a material made from composite reinforcing bars with different sections by crossing and fastening at the intersections. In this case, the rods can be smooth, have a periodic profile or sprinkled with sand. Most often, mesh is supplied in rolls 75 m long, 1-2.4 meters wide (and more if necessary), while the cell size ranges from 25-50 mm.

Composite mesh today is an alternative to metal black, stainless and galvanized mesh for reinforcement, fences, barriers. This is justified by the fact that this material there are several benefits:

  • almost 3 times stronger than similar steel reinforcement;
  • high resistance to corrosion and chemical environments;
  • 3 times lighter than steel counterparts, which reduces the weight of the entire structure;
  • in case of violation of the geometry of the structure, it retains its shape, preventing the object from completely collapsing.

Depending on the application, the material is classified as follows:

  • masonry and connection works - SBP (impregnated basalt);
  • plastering works - SSAF (glass reinforcing facade);
  • for the construction of roads - SDA (road reinforcing) and SBPD (impregnated basalt road);

Masonry and communication work is carried out using a grid with a polymer coating of solid basalt, glass fiber (impregnation). SBP applies in the following cases:

  • reinforcement of brick blocks of different sizes - blocks of cellular concrete, porcelain stoneware, gas silicate, ordinary brick;
  • as a connection for buildings using adhesive, cement-sand binders.

Road Composite Mesh are made of glass, basalt roving and polyester threads using knitting and stitching technology. SD are intended:

  • for reinforcement during the construction of roads, airfield lanes;
  • for reinforcing hydraulic structures, concrete floors.

Reinforcing composite mesh produced by crossover technology composite reinforcement, which is fixed with plastic clamps or knitting wire to create the desired cell geometry. Rebar diameter - 3-12 mm. This mesh can also be used for floor screed, reinforcing slabs and walls, roads.

All types of composite meshes are produced in rolls and sheets in accordance with the terms of reference and must have a certificate of conformity to GOST. In order to understand which mesh - metal or composite - to choose for construction work, let's make a small comparison.
