Growing early cabbage under covering material. Landing under the snow. An effective way to grow early cabbage on black covering material Planting cabbage under the snow

In my small country garden all the time. And colored, and broccoli, and red-headed, and, of course, white-headed - there is a place for each variety! Since in our area (Altai, Barnaul) because of the short summer, cabbage has to be grown through seedlings, then the question of what cabbage seedlings are obtained by the time they land on a permanent place is always very relevant.

A few years ago, like many other gardeners, I grew cabbage seedlings at home. Everything would be fine, but ... I live in a multi-storey building, my loggia is glazed, spacious, sunny, the south side, it would seem something better, but the trouble is, it turned out to be too warm on the loggia for some seedlings! Even with open windows the temperature is often very high! Seedlings of peppers or eggplants, and even tomatoes do not care - they grow for their own pleasure, but it turned out to be completely uncomfortable for cabbage seedlings to grow.

Cabbage seedlings, of course, grew to grow, but they were constantly stretched out, kvela - in general, to be honest, no matter how hard I tried, the seedlings turned out to be unimportant!

And then one fine day, experienced gardeners suggested that it was time to stop these torments, and you just need to sow cabbage seeds directly in open ground . Despite my doubts, I decided to grow some of the cabbage in this way. Although at that time from home seedlings just in case, he did not refuse.

As soon as the snow on my site completely disappeared, and the soil warmed up more or less (April 30), I started sowing cabbage. I took for a sample several varieties of white, colored and broccoli - varieties Glory, Hope, Goat Dereza, and it seems Linda, I don't remember exactly.

I don’t need too many seedlings, so I dug up only one mini-bed 3 m long And 40 cm wide. I made a groove in the center, and sowed different cabbages directly with dry seeds to a depth as usual 2-3 cm. He divided the different varieties with pegs stuck in the ground. He leveled the furrow, mulched it with peat and watered it with warm water heated in the sun. I fixed a covering cloth over the bed with the help of metal arcs stuck into the ground and pressed the edges of the strips with several bricks so that this simple structure would not be inflated by the winds, which at that time in our area are simply hurricane. The whole job took less than half an hour!

The weather that year in the spring did not indulge, then cold, then slush, even snow fell, but the cabbage sprouted well, however, much later than at home (only by mid-May). After the emergence of seedlings, the shelter from the cabbage bed was removed and installed only at night, in cases of severe frosts (minus 3-5). And small frosts were not terrible for the sprouts! To prevent the shoots of young cabbage from being destroyed by the harmful cruciferous flea, I applied abundant sprinkling of plants tobacco dust.

All sown cabbage grew rather slowly due to the cold, but very confidently! When the sprouts began to interfere with each other, the bed with seedlings was thinned out. Almost no care was required for the crops - only occasionally watered and loosened.

By the end of May, finally, the weather improved, and cabbage seedlings quickly began to grow and began to grow stronger right before our eyes! By the time we landed at a permanent place (early June), she already looked pretty decent! Of course, the "country" cabbage seedlings were not as powerful as some gardeners plant, but they were still quite strong, and certainly looked healthier than my "home" seedlings, although they were inferior to them in growth.

Planted cabbage seedlings and "home" and grown in the garden at the same time, further care was the same completely, but the results surprised me and made me very happy! The "dacha" seedlings of cabbage sown in the ground after transplanting to a permanent place did not hurt at all, and immediately began to actively develop. Yes, so quickly that by the end of June she caught up and overtook the cabbage from the "home" seedlings.

And after that, the "country" seedlings generally went into the lead, and gave a noticeably better harvest compared to the "home" cabbage! Moreover, both white and cauliflower - proved to be very good!

After that, for another season, just in case, I grew two types of cabbage seedlings - “home” and “country”. The result was the same. Since then, for ten years now, I have been sowing cabbage for seedlings with seeds only directly into the ground, and I don’t know grief! Cabbage always grows well, and other cabbages - so generally wonderful tied up!

Growing early cabbage under covering material. When to plant early cabbage for seedlings? Early cabbage in a seedless way. Cabbage care. Video.

Last year I wrote an article "How to grow early cabbage without the hassle of seedlings." This year I wanted to make a video on this topic, because everything has already been written! But the weather has made its changes, and as they say, there is experience.

When to plant early cabbage for seedlings?

How I plant cabbage every year, you can read "Growing early cabbage without the hassle of seedlings. Harvest in June ”- This year, the planting dates were later, the snow in early April lay in snowdrifts. Spring was very late and I planted the sprouted cabbage for the first May holidays. There were no real leaves, but there is a crop, the cabbage grew normally. And now it’s clear that you don’t have to wait until the seedlings grow up, you can plant them in the garden as soon as the cabbage rises. When to sow cabbage seeds? - Look at the weather, cabbage sprouts in 4 days, but we will give a week for shoots. The snow has melted, the earth has dried up, the night temperature is about zero - you can sow.

Planting early cabbage.

There is nothing complicated, the cabbage has risen, and we immediately transplant it into the garden. It would be possible to sow seeds on the bed, but then it will rise later - the temperature at night is about zero.

Caring for early cabbage.

Cabbage care is very simple - cover with spunbond, remove only for mulching and watering. It is better to water 2 times a week, cabbage loves water very much, but you can water it once.

This year there were constant rains and it seemed to me that it was possible not to water - water will pass through spunbond. But as it turned out, very little water passes through the spunbond, this amount is not enough for irrigation. Little drops on the leaves and completely dry mulch, and this is during a rainstorm. Do not be lazy, water the cabbage.

This year, because of the rains, the invasion of snails and slugs in the Moscow region. I had to choose them manually, sprinkled the bed around the perimeter with red pepper several times. Boards outside the garden Sprayed with fly and mosquito repellant. You can also use a cockroach repellent, but I did not have it on hand. I did this so that new slugs from all over the site would not climb into the garden.

Eliza hybrid.

The harvest this year was 3-4 weeks late, the heads were smaller than usual. But last year I planted the Parel hybrid, and this year the Eliza hybrid. While it is difficult to say which of the hybrids is better, one year is not an indicator. About growing cauliflower article and video - . Hybrid Eliza rehabilitated, last heads 1.600

"The secret of growing late cabbage"

There are secrets of growing cabbage seedlings and planting them. Modern table unthinkable without it. If you want to grow cabbage seedlings yourself at home, then first of all you need to think about seeds, about those varieties that will provide you with the result that will satisfy your wishes. But on the one hand, many gardeners have problems with cabbage seedlings. On the other hand, there is nothing special and difficult. How to plant cabbage for seedlings?

Choosing a variety for growing seedlings of cabbage

There are countless varieties of this vegetable. There is super-early cabbage, which already ripens by the end of June, forming tight, juicy heads of cabbage, there are varieties that ripen in the middle of summer, and there are varieties that are harvested only at the end of October - they are intended for late storage.

In addition to white cabbage, there is cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Beijing, red cabbage, Savoy, broccoli, kohlrabi, decorative. The choice of variety and type depends on your needs.

First of all, answer very important questions before buying seeds:

  • you only want to use cabbage in the summer, make vitamin salads out of it, for example;
  • you want to ferment it;
  • or maybe you have a basement or other storage where you want to store it until the next harvest.

Sowing cabbage seeds for seedlings

The technology for growing cabbage seedlings is the same for any species. Its seeds resemble radish seeds, yet they belong to the same cruciferous family, but a little smaller.

Cabbage is grown mainly through seedlings. This is an extremely cold-loving, light-loving plant. Often asked about growing cabbage seedlings in.

But now - the most important thing. You can sow the seeds at home, but, you know, the home microclimate is absolute nonsense for her. She simply cannot live in such a microclimate. The maximum that she can do at home is to climb, but she will immediately lie down, the color will turn pale green, then yellow, and then she will disappear. Therefore, cabbage seedlings cannot be grown at home. But if you have cold veranda, a glazed balcony without heating, then perhaps something will work out. For her, cold and light are important.

Therefore, cabbage seedlings need to be grown, roughly speaking, almost on the street. It is necessary to make the so-called cold nursery. How to make it? Very simple.

You take an ordinary box, you can even use a balcony box for flowers.

seedling container
Seeds sown should be well watered.

Fill it with soil. Soaking, warming cabbage seeds is not necessary. You can sow them in rows, or you can scatter them. It's not that important. After sowing, it is important to lightly sprinkle the seeds with earth, trample lightly and be sure to pour abundantly on top. Cabbage moisture-loving plant, so there will be no harm from abundant watering.

This box of sown seeds must not be left at home. It is necessary to bring it to the dacha or take it out to the garden. If you still have snow, then shovel it, put a box with sown seeds on the cold ground. The place should be open, warmed by the sun. Install arcs from above, stretch the film. This is how your seedbed will stand until germination. Shoots will appear in ten to twelve days.

If you already have a greenhouse installed, then bring the nursery inside, additional arcs with a film will no longer be needed. An additional greenhouse will need to be made only for seedlings, as she is afraid of frost. And white, Brussels, Savoy, others do not need additional shelter, they endure frosts down to -5 ° C.

If you have a stationary greenhouse, for example, a glass one, then the seeds can be sown simply in the soil of the greenhouse without any nursery, since the land is there in early spring very well warmed by the sun.

So, a cold hotbed is main secret receiving good harvest cabbage.

How to care for cabbage seedlings

seedlings

After some time (10-12 days) in your cold nursery you will see such a picture - a forest of seedlings.

Cabbage has very few seeds that do not germinate. It's not scary that your seeds have sprouted so often. This is fine. It tolerates thickening up to a certain stage - until the 3-4th leaf appears. Until this moment, nothing needs to be done with the seedlings - just make sure that the earth does not dry out, water it periodically. Remember that if it is + 5 ° C outside, then it can be + 20 ° C in the greenhouse, and this can cause the soil to dry out.

Of course, already at this stage you can notice that some plants are stronger, taller, stronger. Most likely, these are the ones that will be planted in the garden. But so far they are all equal. You can leave everything as it is and wait for the 3-4th leaf to appear. Or you can carefully transplant some of the plants from the nursery together with a clod of earth into a separate pot. If the seedlings have 1-2 true leaves, then several plants can be transplanted at once into a separate pot. And if more, then plant immediately in a separate glass.

Seedling picking

Cabbage is very fond of fertilizing with organic fertilizers, but before planting better fertilizer do not apply.

This plant has a very interesting feature- it is better to transplant it into the ground earlier, with the full presence of 1-2 true leaves, when the 3-4th leaves are just emerging. Well, as a last resort, when the 3rd-4th leaves have already grown, but not later. Since at the same time you can’t get large beautiful heads of cabbage, let them ripen later. This pattern has long been noticed, but why it happens is a mystery. Apparently, this is due to the energy of the environment.

Cabbage seedlings are usually planted in open ground 30 days after germination.

This is about the size the plants should be before planting.

Can be transplanted to a permanent place

I do not thin out cabbage seedlings in the nursery. Let it grow thick. When planting in the ground, you will reject weak seedlings, choose strong, strong, beautiful ones.

When you take cabbage seedlings out of a pot or nursery, you will plant them in the right way - at certain distances. Plants varying degrees developments will quickly level out, catch up with each other. Even if some plants were oppressed, they will quickly recover. For cabbage the most early period development is not the main thing, what is important for her is what will happen in the garden after disembarkation.

Growing cabbage with a seedless method is used by many gardeners. And although it is not very different from traditional cultivation with the help of seedlings, it has its own nuances and features. First, you need to know which varieties are suitable for this method. Secondly, the timing of sowing. Thirdly, seed treatment; fourthly, site selection and preparation. In addition, it is necessary to take into account other factors: weather conditions, the presence of regular watering, pests, diseases, and others. In this article, we will analyze how to plant cabbage seeds in open ground, prepare the soil, plant and care.

An important condition for the high efficiency of this method is to create optimal conditions and conditions for seed germination and further development plants. Achieved by careful tillage, which reduces the number of weed shoots.

Choice of cabbage variety

For the seedless method, medium and late-ripening varieties of cabbage are usually chosen. In the southern regions, some early ripe ones can also be grown using this method. Experienced farmers give preference to zoned varieties of white cabbage, which makes it possible to obtain high yields. The following varieties of cabbage can be distinguished: Kharkiv winter, Langedijker decema, Snow White, Amager 611 and some others.

In order to get the maximum yield, it is necessary to choose cabbage varieties for the growing area.

Choosing a place for planting cabbage seeds in open ground

Sowing seeds in open ground is usually done in early spring. Therefore, it is very important to take care of the selection and preparation of the site for sowing in advance. It is important to consider which plants were predecessors. It is good to sow cabbage seeds after:

  1. Potatoes.
  2. Onion.
  3. Garlic.
  4. Ogurtsov.
  5. Tomatoes.

A good harvest is achieved by planting cabbage after carrots, soybeans, beans, peas and other legumes. True, in this case, it is taken into account that cultivation is carried out without the use of organic fertilizers. Therefore, preparing the soil before sowing seeds, it is well fertilized.

Benefits of a seedless method of planting cabbage

Consider the key advantages of a seedless method of planting cabbage in open ground

  • Cost reduction manual labor by 50-60%.
  • It does not require the cocking of greenhouses and hotbeds.
  • There is no need for growing seedlings and transplanting.
  • Landing is carried out directly in open ground. Yields do not decrease, and sometimes even higher.
  • Plants are better initially better adapted and have a more powerful root system.
  • High quality cultivated cabbage. Due to the fact that the plant does not get sick after transplantation.
  • The root system of plants (up to 1.3 - 2.0 m). This allows you to better endure dry periods.

Site preparation

The soil should be carefully loosened, while selecting all the weeds. Loosening by 20-25 cm ensures sufficient accumulation of moisture and promotes nitrification. Then fertilizers are applied. In the spring, when cultivating the soil, ammonia water is added (3 kg per 1 weave), and during pre-sowing cultivation (by 4-5 cm), herbicides are applied with a sprayer.

With late sowing of seeds, when soil moisture is insufficient, pre-sowing watering is required.. Cabbage is demanding on moisture, as it has large leaves. Therefore, it is important to ensure adequate watering. Sprinkling is best. This is due to the fact that with this method of irrigation, it is moistened not only root system but also the air around the plants.

Cabbage is demanding for watering. The best system watering will be sprinkling

If the soil is acidic (determined with litmus paper or by plants that grow), then liming is carried out. Otherwise, cabbage can get sick with clubroot. For this you can use dolomite flour(limestone). The latter is recommended to be applied immediately before sowing (in spring). The optimal indicator Ph 5.5-7.5 is considered.

How to plant cabbage with seeds in open ground: preparing seeds for sowing

  • calibration;
  • treatment;
  • culling.

First, the seeds must be sorted out and inspected visually, then the selected seeds are soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour, then they are washed and wrapped in a damp cloth for one day. It is important not to leave for more than an hour, as they will begin to get rid of the peel, after which they will not be able to take root properly.

When to sow

Depending on the climatic zone and the selected seed variety, it is recommended to plant them from the beginning of April to the end of the first decade of May. Important to consider climatic conditions specific region. This is due to the fact that cabbage seedlings can withstand short-term frosts down to -3°C.

The recommended seed sowing depth is 2.5-3.0 cm, but the distance between the holes directly depends on the selected variety. For example, when planting early-ripening varieties, it is enough to leave about 40 cm, and for medium and late-ripening varieties, the recommended distance is 50.0-65.0 cm, since they are larger. the main landing patterns are square-nested and ordinary. In the first case, the diagram looks like this 60.0 X 60.0 or 70.0 X 70.0 cm, and in the second 90.0 X 50.0 cm.

But when sowing seeds, it is important to take into account that they will be repeatedly thinned out, and the weak ones will be culled until only the strongest remain. It is performed twice. The first time the plants are in the 1st true leaf phase. At the same time, 2-3 shoots are left in the hole. The second weeding is carried out in the phase of 3-4 leaves. After that, 1 plant remains in the hole. Remote shoots are used for seedlings. Important - before thinning, the plants moisturize.

Seedling Care

In general, growing cabbage from seed does not require much maintenance other than regular watering, loosening and weeding. The first weeding is carried out immediately after seed germination. Then it is important to protect the plants from pests and diseases. For this, seedlings are recommended to be regularly inspected and processed.

Next important point, for the care of seedlings - top dressing. The first is performed with mineral fertilizers (if necessary), during sowing. Quantity mineral fertilizers is 100 g per 1 weave. Subsequent top dressing is carried out taking into account the composition of the soil and the condition of the plants, as can be judged by their leaves. The next one is performed when 2-3 leaves are formed on the plants. The third - during the formation of the swing.

It is important to remember that the first dressings are performed at a shallow depth and closer to the roots. With each subsequent top dressing, the depth and distance increase.

Important points:

  • destruction of the crust;
  • regular weeding;
  • loosening;
  • watering.

Irrigation is recommended to be carried out with a decrease in humidity to 80% HB and up to 75% HB (on heavy soils) - in the period before heading out and, accordingly, to 70% HB in the subsequent time. In this case, the water rate should be 3-4 m3 per 1 hundred square meters - in the period before the start of tying heads and 4.7-5.7 m3 thereafter. For heavy soils - 5.0-5.5 m3 per 1 weave.

If after sowing the soil dries out, or rather its upper layer, then post-sowing irrigation is performed at the rate of 1.5-2.0 m3 per hundred square meters. Stop regular watering 21-28 days before harvest.

After watering and natural precipitation, loosening and weeding are carried out on the second or third day. Gradually increasing the depth of tillage up to 10 cm. Experienced gardeners recommend hilling plants. This has a positive effect on productivity and is effective method weed control.

How to deal with cabbage pests?

In the first month Special attention give protection from pests. The main pests for cabbage are presented in turn:

  1. Cruciferous flea
  2. Belyanka.
  3. Moth.
  4. Fly.
Name of the pest Way to fight Consumption
Cruciferous flea Spraying with dust is considered a reliable way to deal with cruciferous flea. The solution is a mixture of DDT and 12% hexachlorane.

In the absence of dust, they are replaced with a mixture of sodium silicofluoride, ash and dust, in a ratio of 1:1:1.

Processing is carried out on the basis of the norm - 12-15 g for every 10 m2. It is recommended to start processing at the first appearance of fleas. After that, repeat 2-3 more times with an interval of 1 week.
cabbage moth Cabbage moth causes serious damage to plants, which gives several generations during the growing season. Therefore, it is important to deal with the pest in a timely manner. For this use:

1) Calcium arsenate.

3) Chlorophos solution (65%)

1) Consumption 12 g per 1 weave.

3) With a concentration of 0.15%.

Aphid To combat aphids, use: a solution of anabazine sulfate.

From folk remedies the most effective is considered - a decoction of tobacco leaves. Prepare as follows - boil tobacco leaves in 2 liters of water - 2 hours. Then the broth is set aside and allowed to cool. After that, filter, add to the liquid soap solution and treat plants.

At a concentration of 0.2%, at the rate of 500 ml per 10 m2.
cabbage fly To destroy cabbage fly use:

1) Processing with dust.

2) A solution of thiophos (30%) at a concentration of 0.03%.

3) A solution of chlorophos (65%) at a concentration of up to 0.25%.

4) Sprinkling the soil with a mixture of sand and naphthalene.

5) Sprinkling the soil with tobacco dust and lime in a ratio of 1: 1,

1) 3-5 g per 1.0 m2.

2) Consumption 250 g per plant.

3) Consumption per plant is up to 200 g.

4) In a ratio of 1:7.

5) In the amount of 300 g for every 10 m2.

Owl and White 1) Calcium arsenate.

2) 0.1-0.4% solution of entobacteria.

3) Chlorophos solution (65%)

1) Consumption 12 g per 1 weave.

2) at the rate of 1000 ml per 1 weave.

3) With a concentration of 0.15%.

The table below summarizes the main pest control methods for cabbage.

Answers to pressing questions from gardeners

Question number 1. Can white cabbage be grown with minimal or no chemicals?

Yes it is possible. For this, a special plant care system is used. First, they are sown in well-loosened soil, filling the holes with wood ash. Dill is sown between the beds. In the process of plant growth and maturation, weeds are not uprooted, but only cut off or mowed in height with seedlings. The cut grass is left in the aisle. Plants are treated with environmentally friendly preparations: Phytoferm, Biohumus, Vermicof, plus a solution of mullein or bird droppings.

Question number 2. What yield can be achieved using seedless growing method?

Experienced vegetable growers receive 400-500 kg of cabbage from the 1st weave (early ripe), 500-700 kg (mid-ripening) and 700-1000 kg (late varieties).

Question number 3. The best varieties for a seedless way of growing?

Early ripe: "Golden Hectare", "June", "Transformer",

Super early maturing: Wisconsin golden Acre, Dithmarsher Fruher, Sengar earby.

Mid-season: "Sibiryachka 60", "Blizzard", "Cossack F", "Amager", "Florin", "Final" and others.

Question number 4. Effective remedies blackleg fight?

To effectively deal with black leg, it is important to understand the causes of its occurrence and know the factors that contribute to the development of the disease. Here are the main ones:

  • excessive moisture;
  • shading;
  • thickened landing;
  • insufficient ventilation;
  • acidic soil.

Fighting methods:

  • reduction of acidity by liming;
  • the introduction of colloidal sulfur and potassium permanganate, at the rate of 5 g per 1 m2 and 5 g per 10 l of water, respectively;
  • pouring dry sand;
  • removal of affected plants and treatment of land plots with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Question number 5. Do I need to cover the wells with crops, if so, the better.

From the article, the reader will learn all the details of growing cabbage seedlings at home, how to sow immediately in open ground. The article tells how to plant seedlings in a permanent place and care for them.

Cabbage can be grown in two ways - seedling and seedless. The first is to get early harvest. Here are the dates for planting the seeds of certain types of cabbage:

  • white-headed (hybrids, early varieties), red-headed - from March 10 to March 25;
  • white late and mid-season - April 5-15
  • kohlrabi - March 10-30;
  • broccoli, colored - March 15-25;
  • Brussels - in late March-early April;
  • Savoy - from March 15 to April 10.

Preparation and sowing of cabbage seeds

Presowing treatment of cabbage seeds different types the same. First, pour the seeds of the selected variety into a triple layer of bandage or gauze. To disinfect them, they must be placed in hot water, the temperature of which is + 50 ° C, for 15 minutes, after that - for two minutes in the cold.

Further, the fabric with seeds is placed on a saucer, kept for a day at room temperature making sure the gauze is kept moist at all times. Then the swollen seeds are removed to the bottom shelf in the refrigerator so that they harden here for 24 hours.

After that, the seeds are dried to flowability and sown. The quality of the soil is very important. The land should not be "random" - from the street, garden. Since in such soil there are pathogens of fungal diseases that are dangerous for seedlings. Purchase special soil for cabbage seedlings from a reputable store. You can calcine it for 15 minutes in the oven at a temperature of + 200 ° C or 5 minutes in the microwave, turning it on at full power.

The cooled earth is poured into a clean seedling box, previously washed with laundry soap. Spill the soil with a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, sow cabbage seeds at a distance of 2 x 2 cm from each other and sprinkle 1 cm on top with the same soil. After that, the box must be covered with a transparent film and put away in a warm place.

Growing cabbage seedlings in a box

It is very important not to miss the emergence of seedlings. As soon as the first “loop” appears from the ground, immediately place the box on the windowsill or glazed balcony (if the temperature there does not drop below +10 ° C).

It is important to prevent the seedlings from stretching so that the seedlings grow strong. This contributes optimum temperature, watering mode. As soon as the first shoots appear, place the box with them closer to the light, where the temperature in the room is + 15 + 17 ° C. If it is higher, the seedlings will begin to stretch. Very moderate watering is needed, since excessive soil moisture at this stage of cultivation contributes not only to stretching the seedlings, but also to infecting it with a “black leg”.

If you notice that the stalk near the ground has become thin and black, the plant has fallen, which means that it is sick with a “black leg”. Tear it straight from the root and remove it, and transplant healthy seedlings into another soil. You can try to save diseased plants. To do this, spray the stem and the ground around them with a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, and sprinkle the soil around the stem with ash and stop watering the seedlings altogether.

cabbage pick

When the seedlings reach 20 days old, transplant each into a separate container. Small seedling cups with a diameter of 5 and a height of 6 cm are suitable. Carefully, using a small spatula or a coffee spoon, take out the plant along with a clod of earth, plant it in a cup filled with moist soil by half or 2/3, cover the stem with earth to the cotyledon leaves. Place cabbage plants to take root on a windowsill that is out of direct contact with Sun rays and temperature +20 °C.

In such conditions, the seedlings will be 3 days, during which they will have time to take root. After that, put it where the temperature during the day is + 13 + 14, and at night + 10 + 12 ° С.

Young cabbage plants are planted in open ground from April 25 to May 5 (depending on weather conditions). In this place for 3-4 years should not grow cruciferous - turnip, radish, cabbage, turnip, radish, watercress, swede. To do this, dig up a bed, loosen it with a rake, make holes with a shovel at a distance:
  • 30 x 40 cm for early and hybrid varieties cabbage, 50 x 60 for medium and 60 x 70 for late varieties of red and white cabbage;
  • 30 x 40 cm for kohlrabi;
  • 60 x 70 cm for Brussels;
  • 30 x 50 cm for broccoli;
  • 40 x 60 cm for the Savoy;
  • 25 x 50 cm for cauliflower.
In each well, put 2 handfuls of humus, one each of sand and peat, 50 g each wood ash, you can add half a teaspoon of nitrophoska, mix everything and spill the wells with plenty of water. Dip the root of the plant directly into the water, sprinkle it with wet, and dry earth on top so that a soil crust does not form. If the seedlings are a little stretched out, plant them in such a way that the first pair of true leaves is at ground level.
If the weather in the following days promises to be sunny, be sure to shade the plants. This can be done with newspapers, nonwoven fabric or burdock leaves, if they have grown by this time.

Every evening, carefully water the seedlings with a watering can with a spray tip. When after 5-7 days the seedlings take root, remove the shelters. They are left only if night frosts are expected.

If you want to use the seedless method, plant the seeds immediately in a permanent place. To do this, dig the soil here since autumn. As soon as the snow melts, spill it with boiling water, cover with a film for two days so that the earth thaws.

After that, loosen the ground by 5 cm, make grooves to a depth of 1 cm, with a distance of 20 cm between them. Pour the recesses with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, sow the seeds prepared as described above.

Place low arcs over the crops, put a transparent film of high density on them. If warm days come, open it on one side. When seedlings reach 20-30 days of age, plant them in a permanent place.

Cabbage loves abundant watering. Give her enough moisture. Water in the evening, if the weather is hot and dry, then do it every 2-3 days. On cloudy days, you can water abundantly every 5-6 days.

Combine loosening with hilling. Excellent results gives a peat bedding to a height of 5 cm. It will become an excellent mulching material, muffle the growth of weeds, help maintain moisture, while giving the plant nutrition.

In hot, dry weather, cruciferous fleas harm seedlings. To preserve young plants, they are dusted with sifted wood ash.

In wet weather, slugs become the main pest of cabbage. They can be dealt with with chemical and folk remedies. If you chose the first, sprinkle the earth on the cabbage plantation special tool designed to control this pest. If you do not want to use chemicals on the site, dust the soil in these places with dry mustard or ground black pepper. You can collect slugs by hand and then destroy them.

Cabbage butterfly larvae can also damage these plants. Therefore, gardeners are trying to plant seedlings in early dates when there is no emergence of these insects yet. From folk remedies, you can advise an infusion prepared from 10 g of white mustard powder, which is dissolved in 1 liter of water. The liquid is insisted for 2 days, before spraying it is diluted with water in a ratio of 5:1. The stepchildren of tomatoes will also help to cope with this scourge, they are laid out in the aisles.
