How to make a beautiful and practical garden arch from plastic pipes with your own hands. How to make a beautiful and practical garden arch from plastic pipes with your own hands Drawing and calculation of an arch from plastic pipes

Each owner of a garden plot or even a small front garden always has a lot of ideas on how to ennoble the space. Make it not only functional, but also aesthetically beautiful. For example, you can equip a reservoir or landscape slide. And you can install an arch for plants in the garden.

Arch functions

Such decorative element carries many advantages when used on a garden plot and performs the following functions:

  • architectural decoration element
  • Support for flowers and other plants
  • Part of the bearing element (gates, gates)
  • Bench support or swing

Types of arches

Not so long ago, metal and wood were mainly used as material for arches. But over time, a wide variety of materials appeared on the market, allowing you to create real masterpieces in the garden.

metal compositions

Most simple option arches are metal arcs connected to each other and built into the ground.

However, this version of the product will not withstand heavy plants. Yes and without welding machine rarely manages to beautifully connect the elements.

More reliable and beautiful option there will be a metal welded structure. As connecting elements use the remnants of reinforcement and rods. To make such an arch yourself, you need to get a welding machine.

You can safely call the king of metal arches Forged Products. Such structures are not cheap, and they cannot be made by ourselves without skills and special equipment. But such an arch is reliable and able to decorate the garden even in the cold season.

A significant drawback of all metal garden arches is the natural susceptibility of the material to corrosion. Therefore, products require additional care and timely processing.

wooden gate

The tree is considered to be one of the available materials to create arches. If there are difficulties with creating a semicircular top, then a U-shaped one will become its replacement. Such designs fit into any garden designs and add comfort.

Before construction, the tree is treated against insects. During operation, it is also necessary to periodically paint over the support and take care of the material to prevent decay.

stone structures

When planning a garden design and choosing decorations, the functional load of the elements should be taken into account. For example, a stone garden arch is practically not suitable for climbing plants. She is chosen as self decoration garden.

To create such arches, use wild stone, brick, or use concrete pouring. It is not difficult to lay out a rectangular arch from brick or stone. If you want original or complex compositions, then you can't do without the help of professionals.

plastic arches

If plastic water pipes remain after the repair, then they can be used as material for the arch. Such elements are used only as a delimiter of space or decor. Good for climbing plants.

Due to the lightness of the material, such arches are not used as supports. Fragile plastic is sensitive to temperature, so the elements are located away from open sources of fire. And for deputy in cold regions, the structures are removed into the room.

original approach

To really surprise the environment with an unusual arch, you need to show a little imagination and be patient. Some creators from improvised materials create a whole work.

If you look at the photo of the arch in the garden, you can see the designs of the most different forms: round, domed, triangular. Some have spent years growing arches from woven trees or making arbors from ready-made vines.

Do it yourself

Before starting work, you need to decide what function the arch will perform in space. Then determine its location and dimensions. Standard arches are considered to be 2 m high and up to 1.5 m wide.

To begin with, it is enough to make a regular drawing and calculate the amount of material needed for the construction. For example, the photo of a metal garden arch shows that the installation and installation of such a design is not difficult.

Materials:

  • Fittings (rod diameter from 10 cm)
  • Wire
  • Rope
  • pipe bender
  • primer paint
  • Brush

Progress:

  • Making a frame from reinforcing bars.
  • Using a pipe bender, we make connecting rings from pieces of reinforcement.
  • To make the structure stable, the supports are deepened into the ground to a depth of at least 40-45 cm.
  • We attach the connecting rings to the racks with a flexible wire, stepping back from the base of the structure by 50 cm. Distribute the rings evenly along the entire length of the workpiece.
  • We process the finished arch with paint and let it dry.

In such a simple way, you can transform even a simple garden plot. It remains only to pick up plants for such an arch and such a decorative element will delight for many years.

The suburban area is not just a place of rest. This is a space where you can bring your ideas to life. Garden arch will make your territory more majestic.

Materials and requirements

The arch can be of any size and shape. It is located both at the entrance to the site, and in a secluded place in the garden. According to the material from which the arches are made, can be divided into:

  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • stone.
decorative arch can be a great decoration for any garden

A garden arch made of wood will be a great decoration for any site. As a frame for such a structure, it will be necessary to take a cut, profiled or rounded timber of the section that can become a supporting support for the entire structure. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the possibility of using the arch as a support for climbing plants. The section, the profile of the beam for the racks of the frame, everyone chooses independently, depending on the complexity of the design. Partitions of such a structure can be made of decorative wooden gratings or vines.

Considering that the arch will be located all the time in open space, it will be necessary to process the timber in such a way that its surface is resistant to the influence of precipitation. Usually opened with varnish or periodically painted. Ability wooden arches be affected environment is a big drawback. All other characteristics of such wooden buildings speak of their merits: strength, ease of construction and installation, environmental friendliness, aesthetics.

Metal arches will outwardly differ from wooden arches in fragility and subtlety of forms. Any profile, rod or reinforcement can be used as bearing supports. Partitions between the supports are often made of wrought iron, which gives the structure airiness and lightness. Such structures are not affected by precipitation. The advantages of metal arches include strength, durability, reliability, the ability to use artistic forms. The main disadvantage of this design will be the cost of materials.

Metal arches are reliable, durable, but not cheap

It is difficult to come up with a material cheaper and lighter than plastic. The plastic arch will look avant-garde and will emphasize the originality of your thinking. It would seem that, the best material you can't imagine! Such pipes do not require painting and are absolutely indifferent to moisture. But there is one big drawback plastic pipes is their flexibility. Under heavy load, especially if the plants climbing along the arch grow strongly, the arch may sag in some places.

Arches from rubble or decorative stone will give your site monumentality. Such buildings are usually positioned as a separate work of art located on your territory. In the manufacture of such arches are very laborious, and the material used is very expensive if the relief stone of your site is not used.

This video will show you how to make garden arch with your own hands.

Creating a building with your own hands

At first glance, the construction of an arch may seem complicated and very laborious.

In fact, for any person in the construction of such a building there is nothing difficult. For this you need to have:

  • drill for earthworks and a shovel;
  • hacksaw;
  • plumb and building corner;
  • hammer and nails;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.

To make an arch from metal, you will need a welding machine, and for plastic, from polypropylene pipes, a soldering iron. Now you need to choose a place for construction and proceed with its construction.

The arch in the garden can be easily made by yourself, you need a few tools

wood product

To make an arch out of wood, you will need to do the following work:

  1. We will mark the site in order to dig holes for the racks of our frame. If the arch of your building will be arcs, then to mark the width of the arch, you need to know their size.
  2. With the help of a drill or a shovel, we dig these holes.
  3. We will process the lower part of the racks with an antiseptic or machine oil. Install the frame racks, check their verticality.
  4. Concrete or apply a three-layer pour for the rigidity of the racks.
  5. We connect the racks with longitudinal rails.
  6. We will install and fix the transverse arcs or other structure of the upper frame.
  7. We will sheathe the longitudinal sides of the arch with decorative lattices or other material.

The building is ready.

Metal analog

The fundamental difference between the construction of an iron arch and a wooden one is the need to install all the racks with arcs before you install it in a prepared place. But this is possible only when you can lift the finished structure yourself or with the help of a crane or a winch. If the metal arch will have big sizes, then you will have to follow the same sequence as when assembling wooden structure. If you assemble the structure yourself, then it can be simplified as much as possible. Equally bend several bars of reinforcement and connect them to each other with simple curly elements using simple fasteners. Install the resulting frame in pre-dug holes and check its verticality. Concrete the frame racks, and the arch is ready!

Metal carcass arches should be concreted into the ground

PVC pipes

Before you start building an arch from plastic pipes, you need to understand the wide variety of plastic products that have found their application in laying communications:

  1. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes are used for laying intra-house and external sewer networks. These pipes are usually straight and not subject to bending, they have connections with soft elastic bands.
  2. Polyethylene pipes (PE) are used to supply water in external networks, wells. They have rigid fittings (tees and transitions).
  3. Polypropylene pipes (PP-R) are mainly used for laying internal networks of cold and hot water supply, as well as heating. The connections of these pipes are made by soldering using a special soldering iron.

In addition to the plastic pipes listed, there are others: metal-plastic, vinyl, etc. We will not focus on these profiles because of their high cost.

PVC arch is light and flexible

The sequence of installation of an arch made of plastic pipes, due to their lightness and flexibility, can be the same as with a wooden structure. And you can first collect it all, and then install it.

When using the various diameters of the proposed range of pipes, it must be remembered that the posts of our frame must support the weight of the entire structure. So, for example, from PVC pipes, the core can be made with a diameter of 100 mm, and partitions - 50 mm. Only in the place of installation of partitions will it be necessary to install tees or crosses of the appropriate sizes. From these pipes it will be impossible to make an arc-shaped structure, but only a U-shaped or similar.

Polyethylene and polypropylene profiles can be bent to obtain the desired diameter of the frame arc, which can be made integral with the frame stand. When connecting PP-R pipes with a special soldering iron, it is very important to maintain alignment. If this is not done, then the design may lose its visual appeal.

Other Solutions

If there are places near your dacha where you can find a wild stone, then building an arch from it will be very interesting solution. For such a construction, there is no need to dig holes. It is important that the lower foundation stones are slightly recessed and resistant to stress. To perform the work, only cement, sand, a tool for concrete work will be required.

Such an arch must be erected, carefully choosing each subsequent stone so that it can be stably fixed and have several planes or points of support. When laying the arch, it is possible to use temporary supports. After the solution has hardened, these props can be removed.

An interesting option arches from wild stone, reinforced with mortar

We considered the possibility of building an arch from popular materials. But if you have ideas for building such a structure from other raw materials, then using the above procedure, it will not be difficult to do. Construction waste can be used as a material, and they can be combined. For example, the racks of the frame are made of bricks, the vault is made of timber, and the partitions between the racks are made of wire. An arch made of improvised will look very beautiful natural materials such as hazel or vine.

Plants for decoration

When your arch is ready, it remains to wait for spring to plant the desired type of climbing plant along the frame racks. A variety of types of such design will allow the arch to turn green in summer period to become more attractive. Your choice can stop on such plants:

  • weaving rose;
  • grape;
  • Chinese lemongrass;
  • hop;
  • honeysuckle;
  • sweet pea;
  • clematis.

This is not the whole list of climbing plants. By planting any of them, you will see how your structure will be transformed. In hot summer days the arch will create the desired shadow.

In order for your building to be visible in the evening and at night, it can be highlighted. At the same time, use separately standing nearby Street lights or install fixtures directly on the racks of the arch. Now your building will be attractive not only during the day, but also at night.

Modern gardeners are increasingly using vertical gardening with climbing plants on their plots. For an effective location ornamental crops supports are needed. Arch for flowers in the country - one of the most popular designs. About how to do original form with our own hands, we will tell in our article.

Garden supports are, first of all, functional structures that allow vines to grow in vertical position. If they were not there, climbing plants would creep along the ground. Except functional purpose, they serve to decorate in the garden. One of the structures, the arch, forms plantings in the form of a semicircular vault. Even the support itself looks original.

The role and functions of the arch in landscape design

Dimensions and appearance structures should correspond not only to the purpose, but also to the general style of the garden. IN landscape design they belong to small architectural forms (SAF). If in summer the supports, densely overgrown with plants, are not visible, then in autumn, when the leaves fall, they open - that is why they should decorate household plot in any season.

Supports for flowers in the country differ in shape, size, design features. They are made of metal, wood, plastic. Pay attention to the fact where the device will be installed, the assortment of future plants depends on it. Another option is possible - the owner of the site first chose the vines, and then he faced the task of correctly placing them in the garden.

Location in the country house and in the garden

In order for the design to organically fit into the style of the landscape, it is important to take into account such aspects as:

  • size and shape;
  • appearance;
  • strength;
  • decorative.

Vertical structures in the country are installed taking into account their design features, and also take into account which flower composition will eventually be formed.

Types of structures by shape

In landscape design for vertical gardening use the following types of architectural structures:

  • trellis - a support in the form of a small flat wall;
  • an arch, which consists of two parallel flat walls connected to each other by a rounded vault;
  • The pergola consists of two vertical columns that are connected by a horizontal crossbar.

Fences, gazebos, gazebos, pavilions and other small structures can serve as supports for climbing plants. architectural forms. Perhaps the most common of them is the arch. Perhaps because it is not difficult to arrange a garden plot with its help.

Every gardener can make an arch on their own from improvised materials. For this, it is not necessary to have special skills. But first you need to decide what to make this very arch from.

Use of different materials

Vertical supports are made of metal, wood, plastic. Perhaps the easiest way to build garden arches for climbing plants with your own hands from plastic pipes. Of them it is quite possible to prepare the right details and fasten them with simple connections.

From plastic pipes: how to assemble and install

building from this modern material has a lot of advantages:

  • durability - the declared service life of the material is 50 years;
  • strength, allowing to place rather heavy woody vines on supports;
  • high wear resistance of the coating, pipes do not need to be painted;
  • resistance to temperature changes.

When the advantages are taken into account, you can proceed with the assembly. Need the following tools and materials:

  • PVC pipes and with a diameter of 20 mm, a length of 12 m;
  • fittings (tees) for connection, 12 pcs.;
  • hacksaw;
  • soldering iron for polypropylene pipes.

The work is performed in this order: Step by step instructions

Step 1Mark the pipe into segments: 1.5 m - 2 pcs; 0.8 m - 4 pcs; 0.4 m - 8 pcs. For transverse jumpers, you will need 6 pieces of 0.3 cm. Tee corners - 12 pcs.
Use the diagram to assemble
Step2Cut the pipe strictly according to the marks with a hacksaw.
Step3Degrease the edges of the segments.
Step4Insert into a special nozzle for heating.
To connect PVC parts, use a special soldering iron for plastic.
Step5Insert heated parts into tees. Do not touch the connections until they are completely cool, otherwise the parts will move and the structure will warp during installation.
Step6Bend the structure and dig it into the ground. The distance between the uprights can be from 1.7 to 2 m. With a larger width, the arch will be flatter, respectively, at a shorter distance, the angle of inclination will increase.
Step7Decorate the arch with plants by planting them with outer side supports.

If assembly with a soldering iron is not suitable, you can use special glue for plastic. For fixing parts inner part the tee is coated with glue. The same is done with the outer edge of the pipe, which is inserted into the connection. After 15 minutes, when the glue hardens, the structure can be bent. In addition to PVC pipes, other materials are used.

Wooden

Vertical supports made of PVC pipes are easy to build, but their appearance is inferior to decorative wooden arches for the garden. They differ in a variety of shapes, sizes and patterns. From an aesthetic point of view, they are superior plastic products, but have a number of disadvantages:

  • wooden structure required pre-training material. It needs to be processed protective equipment from decay;
  • making a garden arch from wood with your own hands requires certain skills in working with wood;
  • the durability of wooden arches is less than that of supports made of other materials. From time to time the tree needs to be repainted. Do it in spring or autumn. To do this, the plants are removed from the support. But not all horticultural crops react positively to this move. Some of the flowers get stressed from being moved from place to place, up and down, in a word, suffer from such interference. For example, they do not like excessive anxiety climbing roses. When choosing a wooden support, it is important to take into account the sensitivity of crops to possible removal from the vertical.

In addition to arches, other types of supports are also popular among gardeners, for example, wooden pergolas for summer cottages. The design is similar to a gazebo: vertical pillars are connected by a horizontal bridge. This classic form came to horticulture from architecture and evolved into a more complex structure with additional details. It can be used to decorate summer garden, if the pergola is planted with flowering annuals, or create intricate weaves of woody vines in winter.

A vertical support is installed at the entrance to the garden plot, placed above walking paths and car parks, used as a functional support for climbing plants in the garden and in the garden.

Often decorate the porch of the house to protect the entrance from drafts.

metal

These metal products for giving the most durable and durable. They tolerate heat and cold well. They are independently made from fittings, profiles, water pipes. To do this, you need to have the skills welding work and be aware of the potential risks. Easier to contact manufacturers metal structures. They offer a wide range of forged and welded designs. Regardless of who made the arch, remember the disadvantages of this durable and beautiful material:

  1. The metal quickly warms up in the sun, so it can act on plants like a hot frying pan. Therefore, it is better to paint the supports in bright hues, they reflect sunlight. Most crops for our climate are deciduous, and not all the time of the year the support is covered with a crown. While the leaves bloom, the structure is open to the sun.
  2. To protect against rain and snow, periodic updating of the paintwork is necessary, otherwise the structures may rust.
  3. Of all the materials listed, metal is the most expensive.

Such supports are more suitable for a garden with a wrought iron fence or coupled with the exterior of a house in the corresponding style.

We use stones

Even more durable material than metal - hard rocks, for example, granite. Of these, capital supports were built back in the days of the Roman Empire. On modern sites they also occur, but extremely rarely. Firstly, it is expensive, and secondly, stone arches are difficult construction work. Of course, stone supports are beautiful and reliable, but do not forget that minerals get very warm in the sun and keep warm for a long time. Most plants do not withstand such a "heat treatment". In frost, the stone behaves like an ice block, which does not contribute to the successful wintering of vines.

Construction from improvised materials: the pros and cons

You can make an arch in the garden with your own hands from the remains after construction or repair. Undoubted advantage this method in significant savings on the purchase of materials. On the other hand, not all of them allow you to do the work yourself. In any case, it turns out an exclusive product that your neighbors will definitely not have.

Selection of plants and flowers

If the arch is located on sunny side garden, any plentifully suitable for her flowering culture. Among summer residents, tree vines are popular:

  • vesteria, she is wisteria;
  • kampsis,
  • honeysuckle honeysuckle;
  • clematis,
  • climbing roses.

In the garden and in the summer flower garden will be appropriate:

  • curly beans or peas;
  • tunbergia;
  • farbitis.

Garden fences made of mad cucumber look original. It is better to pluck its fruits unripe, otherwise it will shoot seeds several meters away. For this he got his name.

On supports in the shady part of the garden will successfully accommodate:

  • girlish grapes five-leafed;
  • aristolochia (kirkazon);
  • bindweed;
  • curly aconite.

Which support to choose for the garden depends on its purpose, location and your sense of beauty.

The cultivation of vineyards, popular in the Southern regions, is accompanied by the creation of favorable conditions for growing crops. Vine growers erect special supports for growing vines to support them. Viticulture has spread widely throughout all regions where they began to grow decorative forms plants.

Effectively combining decorative function, an arch for grapes fits into the garden interior. Unlike simple cultivation grapes on trellises (specialized supports for supporting the plant during the fruiting period), the vine arch creates pleasant shading on a hot day, both for people and for plants growing nearby.

Before starting the construction of the arch, you should decide on the cultivated variety and carefully choose the installation site.

Arch design options

The choice of location for the arch directly depends on the size of the structure. The size of the structure, as a rule, is chosen 1 meter higher than human height. At the same time, the appearance of the site should be harmonious. The arch can be installed at the exit from the site, when approaching the house or along the paths, you can also create a canopy over the gazebo.

The choice of material is based on the further functions of the structure. If you plan to grow decorative grapes, you can use lightweight materials such as plastic. If, for the purpose of growing varietal grapes, plastic floors are unsuitable, they will bend under the weight of ripening bunches. In this case, attention should be paid to wooden or metal supports.

Arch for grapes

wooden bars should be used when choosing varietal grapes that produce a bountiful harvest each season. The construction of a wooden structure is one of the most simple ways. To work with a tree does not require special skills. Also, the tree has a more attractive appearance, organically looking at the garden plot.

Important! Everything should be processed wooden materials stain and moisture resistant varnish before construction.

To give greater stability, arched supports should be tamped into recesses at least 60 cm deep, while wrapping with roofing material to prevent rotting.

Plastic pipes are lightweight, do not rot and corrode, strong and durable. Important factors are low cost and lightness of such pipes. However, therefore, they can sag under the heavy weight of fruit-bearing vines. To create an arch, it is optimal to use water pipe, with a diameter of 20 mm. When building a structure from plastic pipes, you can do without special equipment such as a welding machine, using glue as a fastening material. This quality makes the material attractive to beginners.

It is interesting to look at the dacha arches, which are made of inserted into each other plastic bottles. Such arches are used exclusively for decorative purposes or to create shading, since their strength is low.

Plastic bottles

The use of metal profile pipes with anti-corrosion coating and fittings has a number of advantages. It is high strength, stability, reliability and durability. When building an arch from such materials, tools should be carefully prepared. To fasten the parts, you will need either a welding machine or mounting bolts that are inserted into the drilled holes. A notable point is the high cost of consumables.

Attention! Metal products are heavy, in this regard, you should not additionally weight the structure with additional elements.

Beginner's Guide

Creating an arch for grapes with your own hands is a creative and interesting process.

Regardless of the choice of material for building a vine arch, the first step to creating it will be the competent drawing up of a drawing. At self-training you can get a completely unique appearance of the product. It is necessary to accurately measure the place for installation, calculate the required amount of materials. You can also use ready-made drawings, in this case there is no question of originality. After the construction plan has been drawn up and approved, assembly can begin.

Note! Before work, regardless of the materials chosen, they should be prepared. Treat wooden beams with stain and varnish. Treat metal pipes and profiles with an anti-corrosion agent.

Having marked the territory, dig holes with a depth of:

  • For wooden beams- 100-120 cm, with a diameter of 7-10 cm more than the column;
  • For metal pipes- 80 cm, diameter 60 cm;
  • for plastic pipes - 40-50 cm.

Pour a layer of gravel 10-15 cm thick to the bottom, then tamp it well.

  • For wooden poles- treat the bottom with grease, wrap it tightly with roofing material in 1-2 layers;
  • For plastic pipes - pour sand into the cavity to give stability and solder the end with a plug.

Position the support posts strictly in the center of the formwork and fill it with gravel. After that, pour a liquid concrete solution that can seep between individual pebbles.

At the same time, it is necessary to make sure that all the pillars are at the correct level. It is necessary to correct the uneven installation of the bars by driving in a peg, creating stretches. When the frame is skewed, make additional stops and insert wedges.

Important information! To create a more stable base, you can raise the fill level above the soil. For this formwork should be reinforced with steel wire or mesh.

Leave the pipes for 3-4 days for better concrete hardening.

After this period, you can begin to build the top of the arch and draw wire threads. Basically, the top is used for growth vine. At the same time, a frame is initially created, connected to ready-made supports, which serves as the final stage in the installation of pillars. At the same time, it is important to check the level of the pillars in order to avoid skewing the entire structure.

When using metal pipes, the elements of the upper part should be welded in stages, since their weight is very high for a one-time lift. You can also use mounting bolts at the joints.

metal pipes

In the case of working with plastic pipes, adapters are used at the joints. The joints must be carefully degreased, heated on a special nozzle of the welding machine and inserted into the adapter.

Attention! It is impossible to carry out fixing manipulations until the pipes have completely cooled down.

Also, special glue can be used at the docking points. In this case, a layer of glue is applied to the pipe cut and the adapter or tee, and the two elements are connected in the desired position. To create bends in a plastic pipe, the intended place should initially be filled with sand. This will help create smoother transitions when melting the pipe with a special burner.

After the preparation of the frame of the structure, it will be possible to install additional elements. The resulting frame can be sheathed to create a shelter from the rain. Polycarbonate materials or slate are well suited for this. You can also decorate the finished arch with design elements, install additional slats for the vine.

Regardless of the choice of material (except for plastic pipes), the arch frame requires timely care. It is required to remove dirt and dust, treat with antiseptic preparations to prevent the appearance of mold and fungus, cover paintwork materials, depending on the material used.

Summing up, we can say that the construction of a vine arch is not a technically complex process. Its creation can be carried out in a short time without resorting to the help of specialists. An extensive selection of materials will allow you to fit the arch into any interior of the site, creating a unique composition.

Made by my own with my own hands at the request of his wife. The issue with the construction of the garden arch was raised last year, after visiting the horticultural department of the OBI store, but it was only done now, it was necessary to think over the design and select materials. On the Internet, there are a dime a dozen such structures, but I didn’t find one that I wanted to repeat, or maybe the principle “shitty, but in my opinion” worked. In general, what has grown has grown.

Materials and tools:
1. Polypropylene pipe ø20mm - 12m. (6pcs x 2m.)
2. Metal-plastic pipe (China) ø16mm. - 13m.
3. Pipe 3/4” metal - 2m.
4. Self-tapping screws 3x16mm. galvanized - 44 pcs.
5. Hairpin M14 - 25cm. (or 4pcs. 6cm.)
6. Bulgarian
7. Gas burner
8. Screwdriver
9. Drills ø2mm. and ø6mm.
10. Hacksaw
11. Plumbing scissors

The material for the arch was a polypropylene pipe ø20mm, which has strength and elasticity, as well as the ability to keep its shape. Unlike metal (which, by the way, is more expensive), plastic is not subject to corrosion, is easier to process, and is also lighter in weight.

He bent the arcs in this way: he screwed the M14 studs into the pipe channel, the stud itself cuts the thread and sits very tightly (it is already difficult to screw in more than 30 mm), bent the pipe by sticking the studs into the ground at a distance of 125 cm (the width of the arch passage, or more precisely, at 2 meter length of the pipe is the diameter of the semicircle of the arch).

Then with the help gas burner warmed up the pipe. The main thing here is not to overdo it with heating, since the softening temperature is 140 ° C, and the melting point is 160 ° C, it is better to heat it by running the burner from end to end along the entire length of the pipe without stopping in one place. When the pipe material becomes similar in elasticity to silicone, heating must be stopped and allowed to cool completely. The pipe after cooling will retain its shape.

The pipes are interconnected by 60 mm M14 studs screwed into the pipe channel. The connection turns out to be almost imperceptible, in contrast to the connection by welding on the couplings.

To install the arch, I used 3/4” pipes with an internal diameter of 21.5mm. exactly for polypropylene pipe. Well, I was too lazy to dig or drill a hole under the racks, and then think about how to align it all. By the way, I have no idea how purchased arches are installed. In general, I cut four half-meter segments of a three-quarter pipe.
To hammer the pipes into the ground at the ends of the pipes, the grinder cut the “crown”

He connected the teeth of the “crown” with a hammer. I didn’t weld because the depth to which the pipe needs to be hammered is small.

Clogging the pipe we control the vertical by level.

After the execution over the pipe, the pipe edges flared with a hammer, or rather the inner diameter, are restored using a drill and a stepped drill.

We install the assembled arch racks and, if necessary, cut the ends so that the vertical pipes of the racks are at the same level.

At first I also wanted to make jumpers between the posts from polypropylene, but after several experiments with heating and shaping the pattern, I decided to abandon this material in favor of a ø16mm metal-plastic (Chinese, which should not be used for its intended purpose), which bends in a cold state and holds its shape well, to In addition, the diameter is slightly smaller, which looks more elegant.

To bend the metal-plastic to fit into the size between the posts, a simple template was made from two rails, pinned to the board with screws at a distance of this size.

I made the marking of the “sinusoid” right on the spot, the error of +/- 1 cm does not play a special piano here, the main thing is to mark it symmetrically and evenly. For example, I will give my dimensions: the distance between the racks is 28cm. (30 along the axes of the pipe minus the diameter of the pipe), the points of the lower attachment - 14cm. (bending radius), the distance between the attachment points of the "humps of the sinusoid" - 42 cm. or easier one and a half distances between the racks. The final size, after dividing the entire length of the arch pipe into calculated intervals and obtaining their whole number, came out a little more - 44cm. Marking is done on both racks symmetrically for fastening volutes (curls).

According to the marking, we drill holes ø2mm through, for self-tapping screws.

From the outside, we drill holes up to ø6mm. so that the head of the screw passes.

Connecting the rack with the “sinusoid”, we control the vertical in terms of level, having previously “baited” the self-tapping screw. Since the tip of the self-tapping screw protrudes slightly from the hole in the rack, the metal-plastic pressed against it will not slip, which makes it possible to fix the pipes with the left hand by controlling the verticality with a level of right hand, and then take a screwdriver. (Well, or vice versa if you are left-handed)

With the manufacture of volutes, it seems to me that there should be no questions, the form is clear from the pictures. First, the curls themselves are bent along the smallest possible radius at both ends of the pipe segment, and then sawn at an angle with a leg of about 50 mm. (Or how else to explain). The Chinese metal-plastic was chosen not only because of its low cost, but also because of its pliability; such a number will not work with Korean, and even more so Belgian.
