Girlish grapes: planting, care and uses in landscape design. Grapes triostrenny vicha

Kira Stoletova

The unusual Vichy grape is characterized by low maintenance requirements. It is often used to decorate buildings. By appearance it resembles a tropical liana. Most pests are unable to get through the dense carpet of the plant, which makes it easier to care for.

Characteristics of grapes

An ornamental Vichy grape variety is used to decorate buildings or fences. He weaves along the walls, gradually rising up. Vichy grapes are tall. Its creepers grow up to 20 m in height, which allows it to wrap around any wall. During the year, the plant grows by 5 m. Vegetation lasts 5 months.

Plant features

According to the description, Vichy grapes have the following characteristics:

  • leaves small size, green: in autumn they begin to acquire a rich red hue and the appearance of tiles that cover the roof of houses;
  • the leaves have a smooth dense surface with an average wax coating;
  • on one plant leaves acquire different shape(rounded, elongated or heart-shaped);
  • flowers are small, have white petals with red spots:
  • the plant blooms from mid-summer to mid-autumn.

Description of the fruit

Rounded berries of a triostric variety of small size, purple. The diameter of each fruit is 1 cm. There are 2 seeds inside the berry.

The bunch is cone-shaped, it can weigh up to 1 kg.

The fruits are not suitable for consumption either fresh or as part of dishes.

Growing grapes

Triostrenny Vicha grapes are demanding on the type of soil. You can not plant bushes on acidic soils. The optimum acid level is 3%. Planting is carried out both in the shaded areas of the garden, and in well-lit areas. The difference is only in the quality of growth and leaf color. Plants located in sunny areas are taller, their leaves are brighter.

To protect from the wind, grapes are planted next to the fence. Within 3 years, the stem of the vine is so strengthened that it is not afraid of gusts of wind.

Before proceeding to spring planting, dig up the entire site. During the procedure, weeds and their roots are removed. They do it for better growth plants.

Holes should be 20 cm deep. Installed at the bottom drainage system: It will wick away excess moisture. Drainage is sprinkled with sandy soil and humus (5 kg of sand and 1 kg of humus are poured into each well). At the end of planting, a wild bush is watered with 10 liters warm water and well tamped. The distance between the bushes should be 2 m, and between the rows - 2.5 m.

plant care

Watering the Vicha grapes is carried out at intervals of a month. If the plant is grown in a hot climate (central and southern regions of the country), the interval is reduced to 2 weeks. It is better to water the plant in the morning, while the sun has risen low. 10 liters of warm water are poured under each three-pointed bush. After 2-3 days, the soil is loosened and all weeds are destroyed.

Features of feeding

Triostrenny Vichy grapes need high-quality top dressing. 20 days after planting, nitrophoska is applied under the plants (100 g for each bush). During the period of active growth, top dressing consists in the use of phosphorus components (40 g of superphosphate per 10 liters of water). When the fruits are set, the bushes are watered with a solution of ammonium nitrate (30 g of the drug per 10 liters of water).

pruning

Shoots of the Vichy variety require annual pruning: it allows the formation of bushes. In the summer, green shoots are removed, in the fall all diseased and damaged areas are cut off. On each shoot leave the desired number of eyes.

In late autumn, the whole plant is covered plastic wrap or agrofiber so that frost does not disturb the structure of the bush.

Diseases and pests

Vicha grapes are resistant to most diseases and pests, but often the culture is affected by aphids or midges. A solution of the drug "Oxyhom" or "Khomus" (50 g per 10 liters of water) helps to get rid of aphids. Midges are dealt with by spraying with a solution wood ash(200 g per 10 liters of water). Spraying is carried out at intervals of 14 days.

A gazebo in a summer cottage, entwined with live lashes of girlish grapes, is beautiful. This requires a fairly short period of time - 2-3 years, and now the gazebo is in the shade of greenery. In the hot season, it gives coolness and is pleasantly pleasing to the eye.

Life cycle features

The description of the plant has been known since the 17th century. It flaunts its green leaves from mid-spring to the very frost. Closer to the middle of summer, he releases flowers. Later, it develops gruna, like a real grape, but very small and inedible.

Most species of this plant take on a distinctive bright red or crimson color in autumn.

Autumn color and girlish grapes

Sometimes this description does not match reality: the leaves remain green right up to the frost, and only in some places acquire a yellowish tint. This is due to lack of light. The plant itself in this case will not die, but in order for the eye to be pleased with the crimson hue of its leaves, you need to transplant it to a brighter place.

The leaves of "maiden's tears" are highly valued not only for their decorative properties but also how medicine applied in traditional medicine to strengthen the immune system and prevent cancer.

Name and classification

Maiden grapes in Greek means "virgin". This "virgin" ivy became known in Russia under the name "girl's grapes". Its seeds are formed without fertilization by pollen from other flowers, as if an immaculate conception occurs. That is why such an unusual name appeared. There are more than 10 plant species worldwide. For landscaping in Russia, two natural look and a number of cultivated cultivars that have similar hardiness, hardiness and ornamental properties.

Three-wall Vichy grapes in autumn

The classification of "girl's tears" is based on the description of the leaves:

  • Three-leafed (in China, Taiwan, the Himalayas).
  • Five-leaved (found in China).
  • One - and three-leafed (taken root in Asia).
  • Seven - and five-leafed (mostly grow in North America).

Girlish grapes ivy-shaped, or triostric- This is a tree-like representative of the grape family. He likes sheer cliffs and cliffs on the seashore; in Russia, it is found in the south of Primorsky Krai. The leaves of this "maiden" ivy are up to 20 cm long, have large coarse teeth and a dark green color with a brilliant tint. In China, it is used for medicinal purposes.

In the photo - other types of girlish grapes

The second name of the five-leaf girlish grape is virgin. Its homeland is North America, but it is also found in China. He likes a humid environment. It can be described as follows: on its antennae there are up to eight branches, on the tips there are oval thickenings; leaves are ovate and oblong. It has been proven in practice that urban soil suits him. "Girl's tears" of this variety develop very quickly and do not get sick. The most common varieties include:

  • Engelman variety (characteristic small foliage);
  • wall (with many antennae and branches with suckers);
  • hairy (young shoots and the lower surface of the leaves are covered with soft fluff).

Diverse ways to use

Curly bushes of this grape are often used to mask unsightly places in the country or near a residential building. It looks beautiful in a hedge, and is also practical: it allows you to divide areas without installing a fence. Used as supports metal mesh, ropes, dig in wooden trunks. A fence made of girlish grapes is good to use near the roadway. With its wide leaves, it creates a thick blanket and does not let dust and noise through. It also has phytoncidal properties.

Living fence made of girlish grapes

If the fence is metal or concrete, then both the yard and the garden can suffocate in the heat from the lack of air movement, and hedge breathes and does not interfere with the movement of air flows.

For gardeners, this plant is just a godsend. It is not damaged by diseases and insects. It is easy to take care of him. For planting a plant, you do not need to select the soil, almost any is suitable for it. It has a positive effect on highly moistened places, effectively drying them. This plant tolerates very coldy. It was observed that at frosts below 35 degrees, the grapes seemed to disappear, but then recovered again from the root. However, to protect against freezing, it is recommended to remove young vines from supports to the ground and store them under snow in winter.

Girlish grapes do not suffer from a lack of sufficient lighting, or from an excess sunlight.

Decorating the wall of the house with Vici grapes

This variety of grapes looks great even on the wall high-rise building, because its height can reach 20 meters or more. For a year shoots increase by 2-3 meters. But under favorable conditions, they can grow by 3.5-4 meters. Due to the side shoots, the plant quickly spreads to the sides. The plant is attached in two ways: it has tendrils, like grapes, and disk-shaped suckers with a sticky surface. They cling to the slightest ledge or gap, and help him reach up. Parthenocissus is such a strong plant that if you make a total pruning, it will only accelerate its development.

The tendrils of the girl's grapes hold the vine tightly

It is aggressive, it clogs other landings. It can only be combined with the same vines, directing them in different directions.

reproduction

Those amateur gardeners who already have girlish grapes on the site do not worry about how to save it. Rather, the problem is how to get rid of it. For the same people who are just thinking of getting girlish grapes, the following methods can be recommended:

  1. Seeds (this method is used extremely rarely, because it requires a lot of time and effort).
  2. Cuttings (cut off the tops of the shoots so that they have at least 7-8 buds, and plant them in the ground, leaving 2-3 buds on top).
  3. Layering (bend down and dig the end of the vine, and support the top of the head in vertical position; when the roots appear, cut off this layer from the main plant and transplant it along with the roots).
  4. Root offspring (develop near the main trunk; dig out in the fall and transplant to the right place).

Reproduction of girlish grapes by layering - dropping

To speed up the development of a new plant "maiden's tears", you can prepare for it good soil. Fine gravel, sand, broken bricks are placed in a hole half a meter in diameter and half a meter deep to make drainage. Then the earth is mixed with humus in a ratio of 1: 1 and poured with at least one bucket of water.

plant formation

The advantages of girlish grapes rightly include fast growth and development. Timely pruning this case is a necessity. Early spring - best time for trimming "girl's tears", but it is important to have time before the awakening of the kidneys. Otherwise, the grapes begin to "cry", losing vitality along with juice. Removing old, dry, unnecessary branches is an important step in the formation of a vine, contributing to its attractive appearance. The cut should be no more than 5 mm above the last kidney. The branches are laid in the right direction, at the required angle. They lend themselves well to formation and quickly adapt. But, if the vine is torn off from the place of attachment, it will not be able to gain a foothold there again, it must be supported or tied, otherwise it will fall.

In autumn or spring, overgrown branches can be cut

It is important to remember that it is better to start forming a plant in the first year of its life. To do this, the first vines are immediately added dropwise and seated in the required order. Watering young vines and cuttings dry summertime carried out several times a season, and then if the soil is very dry. There is a case when for 50 years girlish grapes have not been watered even once.

If the plant is based on smooth surface, after a few years, heavy branches may fall under their own weight. In such places, it is desirable to install lattices to support this living coverlet.

Choice of landing site

There is an opinion that girlish grapes spoil buildings. It all depends on the owner: timely pruning protect the foundation from damage. The main thing is that the vines do not grow randomly. There were cases when the plant pulled the slate from the roofs with its weight. To avoid this, do not let the grapes get close to the slate or tiles. It must be carefully cut next to the antennas and ventilation holes, especially protected gratings. It is also "contraindicated" for plastered walls. But concrete, wood and brick walls, next to which girlish grapes grew, remain clean, without dampness and mold. It is only important to rake and remove fallen leaves in a timely manner so that they do not become a source of constant dampness.

Girlish grapes can also be grown in a flowerpot

This plant also loves downspouts and poles and gives them an aesthetic look.

"Girl's Tears" is a plant that, with a minimum of effort, creates beautiful view and cool shade. It deserves the attention of any gardener.

Speaking of girlish five-leafed grapes, one cannot ignore girlish grapes(Parthenocissus tricuspidata f. veitchii), because this plant is one of the most beautiful, suitable for decorating walls and vertical gardening. It is also called ivy. It really looks like ivy in the form of leaves and the way it is attached to a support, but in terms of growth rate it is far ahead of it. The homeland of triostreny grapes is Japan, China, the Korean Peninsula and the southwest of Primorye.

True, this decorative liana has neither tasty fruits nor luxurious flowers. The main thing is that with Vicha grapes you can decorate whatever you like without much hassle, without even making efforts to equip trellises or supports. After all, it is attached to any surface (brick, cinder block, plaster and even glass] with the help of suction cups, at the ends of which there are swellings containing an adhesive substance that firmly holds the vine on any surface without additional garters and supports. However, it must be borne in mind that an adult a growing vine should not be torn off from the supports - it does not reattach itself on its own.

For gardeners, the main attraction of this plant lies in its beautiful leaves, which are located one above the other at the same angle, like tiles, and create a thick, glossy, as if varnished, coating that perfectly protects from the scorching rays of the sun and protects from noise and dust.

Leaves are the main decoration vicha grapes- quite large, reaching 0-20 cm in diameter, very diverse in shape. On one plant - three-lobed, lobed, triangular, rounded, heart-shaped. On young plants, they are smaller, there are also tripartite ones, they change with the age of the liana.

In spring, the leaves are bright green, in summer they are dark green, in autumn they become bright orange and scarlet with bronze, golden yellow or red tones, reminiscent of rowan leaves before leaf fall.

Such beauty can be enjoyed until the winter, until the snow falls. After the completion of the leaf fall, the graceful shoots of the liana are clearly visible, which also serve as a kind of decoration for it. Flowers at trispiced Vicha grapes modest, and small blue-violet fruits on red racemes are inedible.

In the reference literature, this species is usually presented as low-hardy, withstanding a short drop in temperature to -15°C. But, although rarely, I had to meet him even in Belarus and Lithuania, which indicates his high winter hardiness. In cases of freezing, it always recovers well. In favorable conditions, the length of the vine can reach 25 m or more. At good care during the garden season, its shoots grow by 2-4 meters.

This vine is suitable for creating a wide variety of small architectural forms. You can, for example, arrange a gazebo - thick shoots of grapes very soon braid the supports and form cozy corners for relaxing on a hot day. With its help, it is easy to hide an unsightly retaining wall and even a rock, to isolate oneself from neighbors in the area, or you can run it along the trunks of a dry tree and even on the ground, as groundcover. But the greatest decorativeness of this creeper is manifested when decorating walls.

By the way, planted on a retaining wall vicha grapes Behave like ampelous plant, lowering the shoots down. Some gardeners are afraid to let these grapes along the walls of the house, believing that under its greenery the wall may rot or become moldy due to increased dampness. In fact, the opposite is true: grapes remove excess moisture, take on dust and soot. I have noticed more than once that the cleanest walls of houses are those that are hidden under a green blanket of grapes.

Finally, vicha grapes has healing properties. WITH therapeutic purpose leafy branches and petioles are used. A decoction of the branches is used in Chinese medicine as a tumor resolving agent. The plant is light-loving, it develops very well and bears fruit on the walls of the southern exposure, but it also feels good in partial shade.

Triostrenny grape Vicha breeds and is formed similarly to the girlish five-leafed. plant it beautiful plant, it will help to realize many interesting ideas in the garden, decorate your home and protect it from the summer heat.

Triwall girlish grapes vicha

And whether in ivy-like inograd, Boston ivy

The perfect climber for your garden. In its beauty and unpretentiousness, it surpasses many perennial vines. China, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan are considered to be the homeland of the triospiced grape.

This vine climbs any surface thanks to its branched antennae, which have peculiar suction cups, at the ends of which there are swellings. In contact with a hard surface, a sticky substance appears on them and the vine is held on any surface without any additional garters, mesh or wire. The whole charm of this grape is that he himself crawls along the wall, clinging to it with his "handles". (But it does not hold on polycarbonate, we have a greenhouse made of this material, and vicha does not want to hold on, so you need to plant only near natural materials)

With the help of this grapes it is easy to decorate a house, a fence or a barn.

The creeper has few roots and can be grown even in a container.

Grows pretty fast, hard to keep ,

if the area is small, you need to cut it off, otherwise it will tighten everything. During the season, Vicha grape liana can grow up to four meters under favorable conditions.

It can even be planted as a groundcover. It looks very beautiful, it grows with a thick carpet, it does not let weeds through, it is very convenient if it is not possible to plant a lawn.

This species is resistant to smoke and exhaust gas, so it can be planted next to roads.

It grows in any conditions - both in the hot sun and in the deepest shade.

Quite hardy, although in very cold snowless winters it can partially freeze. In our climate (south of Russia), last years it is precisely such winters and creepers that do not withstand, but in the summer they recover and actively grow again. In more northern regions, it is recommended to remove the vine from the support and leave it on the ground under the snow.

Vicha grape propagation

seeds, root suckers and cuttings. Seeds need to be stratified within a month at a temperature of 5 degrees. Cuttings do not take root well, and if you have little experience in cuttings, then it is better to still purchase ready-made seedlings. But you can try layering, even lashes that just lay on the ground take root, especially if you pin them and ensure good watering. Propagated by grafting on ordinary girlish grapes, if you are vaccinated, then it's worth it

Landing, care

Girlish grapes are not particularly picky about the soil. It can grow on any side: south, north, east or west. Of course, on the western and northern side, the leaves can be small in size, and their color will not change until the very frost. To the full extent the grapes grow on sunny side.

It is customary to plant girlish grapes in the spring - in April and May. Grapes are also planted in autumn: in September, October. Before planting, the soil must be dug up properly.

To improve the growth of the seedling, it is necessary to carry out bait. They do this several times a season. The first feeding should be scheduled for the spring. For one cubic meter it is necessary to make 40-50 grams of nitroammophoska. With the beginning of the growth of grapes, 100-200 grams of fertilizer called "Kemira Universal" should be applied. Triostrenous grapes are fertilized in autumn potash fertilizers. You can use potassium magnesia or furnace ash. For the rapid growth of shoots, it is customary to fertilize the plant with aquamarine (about 50 grams per square meter).

In dry summers, young seedlings should be watered frequently.

When dry, grapes need to be watered. In a normal summer, you do not need to water often, it will have enough rain.

It must be remembered that girlish grapes are primarily suitable for vertical gardening. If you need to decorate a very large surface, then let the grapes grow as they please.

You should immediately follow the desired shape of the grapes .

When forming girlish grapes, use the following tips: fix the young shoots on a support (it can be a wall or a fence), and then direct them in the desired directions; if it is not possible to cope with a naughty escape, then you can immediately delete it; weak, damaged and thickening shoots must be removed - this is called sanitary and restraining pruning.

Be sure to periodically loosen the grapes, fight weeds, remove dry and unnecessary leaves. The growth of grapes can be controlled by tying it in the right way. You can trim the grapes to reduce their volume.

If you get vicha grapes, you will not regret it at all. This is how much this perennial liana wins in comparison with ordinary girlish grapes. Especially in winter, when a simple girlish one looks unpresentable, vicha is like a neat tree painted on the wall with a very beautiful pattern of branches. In summer it is a dense wall of leathery three-lobed leaves. In autumn - gorgeous color from dark red to golden-bronze.

Maiden grapes - climbing plant, which adorns many parks and summer cottages. It is planted to decorate fences, open verandas and walls. Parthenocissus is not difficult to grow; gardeners propagate it by cuttings, layering, root pieces (root offspring) and seeds.

In nature, there are 10 wild species of this plant, but three varieties can be found in gardens and orchards:

  • attached;
  • five-leafed (virginsky);
  • ivy-shaped three-leafed (triostrenny).

Breeders have bred dozens of cultivars of this plant, seeds can be bought in departments for gardeners and online stores. Now girlish grapes are grown in many regions of Russia and the CIS countries.

On a note! Pruning does not harm the plant; in abandoned gardens, its vines grow up to 30 m or more in length. Girlish grapes have a unique ability to climb vertical walls with the help of antennae, on the tips of which there are sticky rounded pads.

Breeding varieties of girlish grapes are very decorative. The leaves of the vine are large, their edges are jagged. In summer, the foliage is bright green, in autumn the leaves of plants planted on the sunny side turn red. If the grapes do not have enough sunlight, the leaves simply darken or remain green. In autumn, the foliage of some varieties becomes not only purple, but also yellow. The length of the leaves reaches 10 cm.

Girlish grapes have a powerful root system, which grows strongly in the sides and in depth. large leaves and powerful long stems need water and roots, like pumps, "pump out" it from the soil. This liana, being planted near the walls, will take away excess moisture from under the house and foundation, there will be no mold on the walls of the building, while inside the air humidity will decrease. Can girlvine creeping up walls destroy them? There are no such data, and the active use of this plant for decorating old buildings in France, Germany and Spain suggests that girlish grapes do not penetrate inside stone walls and cannot destroy the stone foundation.

The plant perfectly tolerates pruning and shaping, which allows you to realize the most original ideas landscape designers and owners garden plots. Shaping, pruning and garter are done throughout the summer season.

All varieties described in the table can be planted with seeds.

The fruits of the plant are berries with seeds. The berries have a spherical or ellipsoidal shape, the diameter of the grapes is 5-8 mm. The peel of the fruit is dense, elastic. It comes in dark red, blue, burgundy or purple. As the grapes ripen, they become almost black in color. On the surface of the berries there is a bluish or bluish coating.

Grapes taste sour or sour-bitter, contain a lot of oxalic acid and are inedible, although they are used in folk medicine. Poisoning can cause eating a large number of berries. The pulp of grapes has a strong astringent effect. In winter, the grapes are eaten by birds.

Berries of girlish grapes ripen on branched brushes, on one sour, how many dozens of fruits grow. Each fruit contains 3-4 seeds that can be used to plant girlish grapes with seeds.

Collection of girlish grape seeds

The fruits ripen in early autumn or late August. It depends on the type of plant and weather conditions region. If in the south of Russia and in the CIS countries grapes can be harvested already in mid-August, then in middle lane fruits in grapes will not ripen before mid-September. If you cut grape brushes with unripe berries, the seeds will be unsuitable for planting.

To obtain seeds, ripe berries need to be kept at home for 2-3 weeks, after which the skin of the berry is cut and the seeds are taken out. The bones must be washed and dried. After that, the seed material is placed in paper bags and placed in dry room with moderate temperatures and moderate humidity. Under such conditions, the seeds remain viable until spring.

Preparing seeds for spring planting

To the seeds of many cultivated plants storage conditions close to natural are needed, otherwise they sprout poorly and grow slowly. The seed preparation process takes different time For different varieties grapes. In the instructions planting material usually there is data on how long the process of preparing for landing takes. Stratification (cooling of wet grape seeds) starts a month or two in advance (depending on the plant variety). In a city apartment farmhouse stratification of seeds is carried out in the refrigerator, as it maintains a constant temperature. For work, you need plastic bags with a sealed clasp or containers. We'll talk about this in more detail a little later.

On a note! Instead of cotton pads and napkins, wet sand or sphagnum moss can be used, but seeds can be “lost” in dark material, and it will not be easy to find them. Vermiculite or perlite is also used for stratification.

If you plan to plant the seeds of girlish grapes in the fall, then no special preparation is needed. They are planted immediately in the ground in mid-October or in the last decade of the month. The weather should not be warm, otherwise the seeds will sprout, which will die from the cold.

Selecting a landing site

On the bags in which the seeds are sold, manufacturers indicate where it is better to plant this or that variety of vines. Some varieties of girlish grapes like sunny areas, others prefer shade or partial shade.

Breeders and gardeners know that if the foliage of girlish grapes is poorly lit by the sun (creepers grow on north side houses, verandas), then in autumn it does not change color and remains green. If the plant is under the sun for most of the day, then in September its leaves will turn red or purple.

Important! When choosing places for planting seeds and cuttings, you need to consider that this creeping plant can climb not only along the walls - it winds along the trunks and branches of trees. Grapes can completely cover fruit tree and even break it. Therefore, in the garden, girlish grapes require constant attention and pruning.

This culture tolerates winter well, the roots sprout, and parthenocissus can turn into a weed, which will take a lot of time to fight. Therefore, when planting grapes with seeds, you need to immediately plan how it will grow and form.

Soil preparation for girlish grapes

This plant is unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but the seeds should be planted in well-dug and fertilized soil. Young sprouts are weak, they do not feel well with a lack of nutrients.

Beds for planting girlish grapes consist of two layers. The bottom layer is drainage. It can be granular or clastic natural material or rock that filters water well (sand, gravel, crushed stone), or artificial materials with non-aggressive composition (brick). The top (soil) layer should contain a moderate amount of nutrient organic matter and coarse sand. Drainage is necessary for good moisture filtration and air supply to the roots of the plant. If the water stagnates, girlish grapes will grow poorly and may die.

Care for girlish grapes

The plant loves moderately fertilized soil, and in soil supersaturated with organic matter, grapes feel bad. Before planting seeds in the garden, you do not need to make any synthetic mineral fertilizers. If necessary, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers are applied during the period of rapid growth, in the middle of summer. It can be saltpeter or nitroammophoska.

Girlish grapes require constant attention, they need to be trimmed, tied up, strengthened on lattices and supports almost every week. As a result, the gardener will receive beautiful garden molds, which will delight the eye until late autumn and leaf fall. In order for the vines to curl evenly and beautifully, lattices and nets are placed for them.

On a note! Parthenocissus will not grow well if the area is overgrown with weeds. Weeding should be carried out as needed several times a season. This plant is not susceptible to fungal diseases, insect pests do not touch it, but if weeds cover the ground and the weather is rainy, mold may appear in the soil layer and in the root system.

If there is no rain, plants with a developed root system should be well watered once a week. Girlish grapes planted with seeds cannot form a strong root system in the first year of life. It needs to be watered more often as the soil dries out in the beds.

How to grow parthenocissus from seeds

You can start planting seeds as soon as the ground thaws and warms up. IN different regions Russia and the CIS countries, landing times vary. In the middle lane, this can be done in mid-April, in the southern regions - in mid-March.

Important! You need to buy girlish grape seeds in advance, taking into account the fact that they need to be hardened and prepared before planting. Unprepared bones may not sprout.

Step 1. Seed stratification. It is carried out within 1 or 2 months (the duration of certification must be specified for each variety). In February, the seeds are placed in a humid environment, using a material that can retain moisture, put in plastic bag or container and placed in the refrigerator.

Step 2 2-3 days before boarding open ground seeds are taken out of the refrigerator and soaked in water at room temperature. It is convenient to do this in a deep saucer with a cloth napkin.

Step 3 Bed preparation. At the chosen location garden plot dig a pit (trench) with a depth of 55-60 cm. The soil layer is folded next to the trench.

Step 4 Drainage is poured into the leveled pit in an even layer. It can be coarse-grained river sand, pebbles, crushed stone, crushed red brick or expanded clay. You can prepare a mixture of these materials. The thickness of the drainage must be at least 20 cm.

Step 5 Enriched soil is poured over the drainage layer. The composition of the soil layer for girlish grapes includes:

  • 2 parts of medium fertilized garden soil (you can add rotted autumn leaves to it);
  • 2 parts humus or herbal compost;
  • 1 part sand.

The soil is leveled with shovels and rakes. After that, seeds can be planted in the garden.

Step 6 Planting seeds. Small holes are made in the soil with a depth of 0.7-1.2 cm. 1 seed is placed in the holes and gently sprinkled with earth. The distance between the holes depends on the grape variety and ranges from 50 cm to 1 m. In order not to injure the root system of plants, the structures that will serve as a support for the vines are installed not during the period of rapid growth, but when planting seeds. After a few weeks, the earth will compact from watering, and therefore it will be difficult to put up supports for vines.

Step 7 The bed is watered, making sure that the seeds do not appear on the surface.

Step 8 top dressing organic fertilizers during the growth period. When the seeds sprout and the rapid growth of the stems begins, the liana can be fertilized with nitroammophos (45 g of fertilizer per 1 sq. M.). In order for the vines to grow faster, they should be fed with a drug to stimulate the growth of green mass (you can take the Kemira Universal or any other remedy).

Fertilizers are applied early in the morning or in the evening, after sunset. Solid and liquid preparations are diluted in 10 liters of water and watered around the stems. Land before application synthetic fertilizers needs to be loosened.

On a note! Breeders are currently Western Europe and America have bred dozens of varieties of girlish grapes, which differ in size, leaf shape, length of vines, soil requirements and frost resistance. Among them are varieties that like the sun, and varieties that tolerate shade well.

Color autumn leaves the new varieties are very beautiful. Among them you can see very rich orange, burgundy, red, bronze, striped, bright golden yellow leaves. All new varieties can be planted not only by cuttings and layering, but also by seeds. It must be remembered that when planting hybrids with seeds, quality will begin to be lost in a few years.

Planting girlish grapes is not too laborious; propagation of this plant by layering and cuttings does not take much time and leads to a guaranteed positive result. But if the gardener wishes to grow a new unusual variety then it is better to plant the seeds.
